A Nearly Normal Family is a legal/courtroom/domestic thriller from M.T. Edvardsson. Also a #botm pick. It’s about a teenage girl who is on trial, accused of the murder of a former lover. It’s told from the perspective of the father, who’s a pastor - the mother, who is a defense attorney and the accused. Often books will tell a story from different POVs. What different about this book is that each POV is contiguous. We get the father’s story, then the girl’s and finally the mom’s. It does open and close with the murder and the people that were there. This book is about who gets to decide justice and what a parent will do to protect a child. I appreciate when authors try an approach l haven’t seen before. Unfortunately, this book did not work for me. It’s not bad, but just adequate. There are some twists and you don’t know who the killer is until the last page. Une très belle réussite pour un véritable page turner. Venez rencontrer une famille presque normale, vous allez adorer... Un excellent thriller psychologique mais aussi un roman sur toile de fond sociale. On y aborde le thème des sentiments, des non dit, des silences, du poids de l'amour, du poids de l'éducation et surtout savoir jusqu'où on est prêt à aller par amour. Tous les éléments qui en plus d'être un très bon polar, en font un roman humain. Le décor... Lund petite ville de Suède... Une famille de prime abord normale.... Mais qu'est ce que la normalité me direz vous ? Adam est un pasteur fort apprécié de la communauté....Son épouse Ulrika est une brillante avocate. Ils ont une fille de dix neuf ans Stella, un brin rebelle qui s'apprête à partir faire un road trip en Asie du Sud-est. Mais voilà qu'un important homme d'affaire est retrouvé assassiné, tout le monde est horrifié et puis voilà que Stella est arrêtée, tout le monde est sidéré.. Les questions fusent comment Stella pouvait elle connaître cet homme et pourquoi l'aurait elle tué ? Ce roman est quasiment un triptyque, chacun des membres de la famille à son tour va tenter de reconstituer le puzzle de l'histoire, mais il manque à chacun des éléments clés... Et à chaque fois qu'un pense se rapprocher de la vérité... un nouvel élément surgit remettant tout en question... La personnalité de Stella va se révéler à travers le regard de ses parents. Elle va nous apparaître comme une jeune femme dominatrice, qui a toujours eu du mal à supporter l'échec et à canaliser ses émotions, pouvant même se montrer imprévisible. Quand c'est Stella qui prend la parole, le miroir nous renvoie l'image d'une femme pour qui le poids familial a eu et a beaucoup d'importance. Elle explique comment toujours devoir être une fille parfaite lui a pesé toutes ces années. Des regards croisés dans ce roman choral qui nous révèlent les états d'esprit, les états d'âme... Le tout de manière vivante, prenante, captivante...Le ton, le style est propre à chacun des protagonistes ce qui créent une véracité au texte incroyable. 19/28 MATTIAS Grand prix des lectrices Elle 2020 « Une famille presque normale». J’ai lu ce polar avec avidité. Stella 19 ans est accusée du meurtre de Christopher Olsen 32 ans avec lequel elle a eu une liaison. Le livre se divise en trois parties : Adam le père pasteur à Lund en Suède s’exprime dans la première. On découvre ce qu’il se passe dans la tête de Stella ensuite. Puis Uleika la maman, brillante avocate au métier chronophage prend le relais dans la narration . L’auteur a pris le temps de poser les personnages et on se trouve au cœur de cette famille frappée par le drame, empreintes de pudeur et qui ont du mal à s’exprimer. Les pistes sont brouillées sur les vrais caractères par les dires de chacun.
