YES TALK ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS BABES, PLEASE!!

I love seeing the stark contrast to how both of them are reacting to dating each other now, Jock has mostly been unaffected by this change (well as 'unaffected' finally dating the man you've been pining over for years can get) while Sanders, clearly wants to change their previous dynamic of constant bickering and struggle to be on the same page. He's afraid that if they're struggling to be on the same page, not always seeing eye-to-eye and general issues: maybe this relationship won't work? But he clearly wants it to work, that's why he's been spiraling. He's terrified of losing Jock, and we've seen this sentiment before back in chapter 3 with the wedding: he was afraid he'd lose Jock if he found out/confessed his love and get rejected, if everything doesn't go perfect or is out of Sanders control: he spirals.

Of course, this time around they're actually communicating and starting to talk about their feelings. Looks like we'll be going into fears & doubts, expectations, boundaries, and what each other need from the relationship. Then hopefully setting up themselves for a healthy relationship.

Web Archive my beloved <3

I've noticed not a lot of people aren't aware and or can't find the original version of My Two Cents Plus Tax. Cuz for those of you who don't know: mtcpt was originally started in 2008 and ended in 2013. I believe Geezerflakes said she was in high school around that time?

Anyway! Since Smack Jeeves, the website it was originally uploaded too, shut down it wasn't easy finding an archive of the original comic, at some point I started to consider the entire comic wasn't archived at all! Luckily I eventually found it! (thank you web archive)

The images don't always load, so it's a bit tricky, but I'm glad the original was archived! it's so interesting to see the history and origins of things like this.

I will never get over this moment in chapter 3 because of the GUTS it took Jock to admit he'd miss seeing Sanders face every day, LIKE?? HELLO??? UH, POLICE, I THINK A CRIME OF BRILLIANT CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT JUST HAPPENED! I'm not messing with you when I say this moment lives in my brain rent-free. I CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH how crazy it is for him to go from being in denial like: "Yeah I'm definitely not in love with this man (lying), can't stand this bitch!" to "Yeah I'd miss not being able to see ur face" ICONIC, NEVER THE SAME, LIFE CHANGING, LEGENDARY, GLORIOUS. What more can I say? I just love this moment so much <3

WHERE ARE SANDERS AND JOCK FROM???

We know they're American, but from what state?

Actually we don't even know what city they work in, we know the tax company is in one at the very least. It could be a fictional city but I wanna know the real life equivalent of where this city would be.

From visuals alone, it could be Pennsylvania? I know there's a river that runs through a city like the one we see in chapter 3. But there's so many other cities like that I just can't tell.

Where Jock and Sanders are from could be anyone's guess, we know Jock's Mum lives somewhat close to the tax companies building considering they could drive there no problem. We have heard their voices before, from the old version of the comic there was a short video made 13-ish years ago. But they didn't really have a distinct accent beyond it being American.

@geezerflakes perhaps, possibly, maybe a gift, a little crumb of info to this question?

I'm real curious and would love to know what guesses anyone else might have :)

Buckle up guys we're in for a world of angst, I had a feeling this race would be some sort of test of their relationship

LIKE LOOK AT SANDERS

Alright, it's analysis time:

I think Sanders is terrified of losing Jock, now there's something on the line, there's someone he could lose. I mean his worldview was kinda shattered, he thought everything would be smooth sailing once they started dating but now is being shown otherwise. Ironically enough Jock seems to be the one least worried about it, considering the guys got some major trust issues. Jock already knows that relationships aren't easy, he'd be more prepared for the rockiness that comes with things like this. Sanders on the other hand is STRESSING. (obviously, Jock has his own worries but focusing on Sanders for now)

I believe this race is gonna test their relationship. They've been going on about how they're "out of sync", I think it'll teach them to work on their communication with one another. Which they've already gotten better at, just a few pages before Sanders opened up about not understanding and being a little disappointed that when they started dating they didn't become some invincible force or things would magically change. Although this is an improvement, you can see he's still repressing his feelings, he's keeping quiet. For what reason? I'm not sure, maybe he doesn't want to burden Jock or something?

Something as simple as "Try not to break up before you get there" is enough to send Sanders spiralling, and I don't think he's gonna tell Jock this, at least for a while. Sanders has an issue with putting his feelings into words and even when he can, he represses them. He keeps bottling them up. I think during this race all that emotion will build up and eventually explode.

Personally, I can't wait! I love some well-written angst :D

IK IT'S PLAYED OFF AS A JOKE BUT LEMME SPEAK: they can't be dependent on each other, and this is Jock saying that. Nah they're not a power couple, but in turn that leads to them being a healthy couple.

Sometimes I KNOW there's something to unpack here but sometimes I genuinely can't pinpoint what it is. Like what emotion is a character displaying and why? I mean Jock in the last panel seems embarrassed in some sort of way, maybe he does believe he is weighing Sanders down? because he has been told time and time again he sucks at his job, especially in chapter 3. I can't imagine being told you suck at your job and weighing someone down all the time makes you feel all that great. I just saw the new page today so my brain still needs time to unpack this page.

I'm insanely busy at the moment, so most of my brain power is focusing on other stuff so it's not as sharp when it comes to unpacking silly little characters.

The character development is developing more than I thought

OKAY SO heads up: major spoilers for the new page of MTCPT

Anyway, I kinda jumped the gun and assumed they'd bicker a bit more. I had said before that their characters are developing and they're improving but I did back pedal a little bit with my last analysis. I thought they'd be more short-tempered with each other, but I assumed wrong because yk that funny thing called character development is doing its thing so Sanders and Jock have gone from just tolerating each other to now comforting and being patient with one another. I don't think it'll be smooth sailing for the entire chapter, they'll definitely have their moments, but not in the way we'd expect.

I've been used to their short temper with one another sometimes I forget they're actually improving as people and assume "Oh yeah this gonna be angsty as shit" which I'm sure it will but when I say "not in the way we'd expect" I mean they probably won't argue and bicker as they had done before. I think it will more so be Sanders FINALLY OPENING UP HOLY SHIT PLEASE!!! and them talking it out more and comforting one another. Does this make sense? Okay imagine:

Jock somehow gets sanders to open up and finally talk about how he feels n'stuff. He says some angsty and heafty stuff and then idk some really sweet moment between the 2 of him comforting Sanders. (I SWEAR this is not how I usually plan and write stories, this is just off the top of my head)

Anyway, hoping you'll get the idea. Almost every new page gives me something to ramble about and Tumblr has been perfect for my silly little thoughts.

QUICK ANALYSIS

RAAAAH Okay quick thing I noticed from the new page.

Jock, even when he doesn't quite understand why Sanders acts or thinks the way he does, he still comforts him regardless. Like in chapter 3 when Sanders is on the rose bed, Jock comforts him the same way he’s now doing in chapter 4. (examples below)

NO BECAUSE WDYM THE THREE-LEGGED RACE CHAPTER IS THE LAST BEFORE THE COMIC ENDS???

Going back and re-reading My Two Cents Plus Tax I found out when reading the comments that Geezerflakes confirmed the three-legged race chapter is the last, and then the comic will end??!? Ya'll I'm devastated, I can't believe this.

All jokes aside, this comic is crazy good. Even though this will be the last chapter I'll hold this silly little webcomic close to my heart, it's a fantastic comic and should still receive love and attention. It should continue to be shared and recommended! I feel like people think they can't be active in a fandom once a piece of media has ended. Which is quite frankly bullshit, I think it's important to keep fandoms alive and keep making fan content even after something has ended!

I don't think the end of this comic should be sad, it's should be amazing that this webcomic even gets an ending! And I'm excited for it, we shouldn't be sad about the ending we should be excited! that this amazing webcomic gets an ending and while I haven't followed it for long, it was the best experience I've ever had!

I also think we should keep supporting Geezerflakes and other stuff she makes even once the comic ends! Because idk about you guys but I think she makes some really cool stuff that's worth following :D
