Based on those iconic wedding photos flying around, I felt compelled to draw Onyx and Burgess. It wasn't my intention to do a full rendered piece but... oops, my hand slipped!
The background is a screenshot from the game My Time at Sandrock.

KICKS DOWN THE DOOR After a long while of my computer being in the shop I gots it back and what did I do immediately?? DRAW MORE FAN KIDS, I ended up getting so invested in them that I did not make any actual fan kids from MTAS and just fellow pals OCs asdfghjkl BUT HERE WE GO!!! AHEM AHEM From Left to right Boulder (the Onyx x Builder kiddo) @florisam
He's a happy go lucky lil man who hides his eyes cause they spooky a lot of people, just like both Mom's <3 He likes scarabs and beetles and collects bugs and is very good at building little houses for them!! My soft son with sharp teef
Alouette (the Aerie x "Builder" kiddo) @illusidy
She is a chill girl, just likes laying on rocks and watching the clouds go by. She's a bit quirky?? Tilts her head at unnatural angles when no one is looking and just stares... a lot. But she's so cute : D so don't be freaked out when you see her glowing eyes at night.
!!DOUBLE TROUBLE!! Maverick and Calla (the Aka x "Builder") fan kiddos @oxalisworks
The names are place holders cause I dunno how to name kids asdfghjkl but BOY ARE THEY PRETTY!!! Mave is just a suave but terrible at being genuinely normal, he has weird hecking hair like his pops and is more cunning then anything. Calla is a grumpy baby girl who wants to adventure but has 0 sense of direction and gets lost ALL the time. She has a lil whistle to blow so that people can come find her lmao Anemone (Skye x "Builder) fan kiddo!! @neonlightsblog Let it be known she doesn't hate you, she just has RBF and doesn't want to talk to you unless you talk to her first. A picky girl who loves Moms but also gets tired of how weird her eyes are because of them. Tries her HARDEST to be super normal, but let's be honest she probably has some weird traits to. (Def licks rocks and the air sometimes to figure out if its going to rain)
Noelle (the Daeth x "Builder") Fan kiddo! @tyesteban
She hates you actually. Literally do not talk to her unless you are her dad or mom. Sunburns super easy and gets heat stroke even easier. She is rather delicate but also grows to be pretty tall?? She is the western goth we have all been waiting for. She prefers wearing black because it traps the heat in and she likes to be warm like Mom, but doesn't want to be caught laying on a rock or the roof. Carmin (the Valentine x "Builder") Fan kiddo!! @sunstream7 Perhaps the most ENERGETIC of the bunch!!! He loves running around in circles and loves loves?? Ok, he is the kid who meets you and says "Bye I love you have a good day : D" he's got a bit of a lisp cause of the teeth! A charming goober who needs to have eyes and hands on him at all times or else he will be found in a tree or on the roof or- OH mY GOD GET OFF THE STATUE OF PEACH???
LET IT BE KNOWN!!! All these kids?? Eyes glow in the dark. Is it freaky?? Yes. Is it just like mom?? Also yes :>

Phoenix Chronicles E8
Party Down?
Episode 7 here
We were missing two players for this one, which is quite alright. I needed the more relax pace.
We start the session off with preparation to attend a Seer of the Throne party. Funny enough, the only PC with an actual job is given a custom Condition "Broke," after some frivolous spending trying to prepare for the party; something the players and I had talked about was trying to experiment with ways to handle Conditions that I hadn't before.
The Cabal arrives at the party, and if I had to go straight off the vibes of the party featured in the MtAw2e book for the Seers, I'd say this was fairly tame? It was mostly a party held by one Seer for a few new initiates, and one last go at trying to convert a specific member of the party. Little do the players realize, I have eluded to how two of the five of them are pretty tied up to the Exarchs plans (hello, Reign of the Exarchs rearing its head the previous session). So 2 of the Cabal members get into a conversation with a Seer named Power, with whom our Cherrim had a previous run-in with. They negotiate territory, Power tries to do a little wine and dine, and they leave with Cherrim make vague promises to think about joining (she's already decided not to in reality).
Meanwhile, Hel is off on his own trying to warn people off from joining. He tries to find someone who's wall flowering and.... dramatically fails (take a Beat everyone). He meets with someone who seems out of place, the only biker in the room, leather jacket and all. They quietly meet in a side room that's hosting a terrible movie (that turns out to be a horrible live stream, but I won't get into details here), and Hel is immediately overtaken by our bikers Majesty. Turns out, they're a vampire, though at this very moment, neither involved realize how much our Cabal has mucked into said vampire's business. Our Kindred gets very close, however, a really lucky roll on Hel's part saves him from divulging damning evidence (really delaying the inevitable), and our Moros flexes some magic muscle to get the vampire to backoff, quickly departing the scene.
[It's a shame Cherrim didn't sign on, because now Power has ratted them out after some off-scene investigation. The Seers in this city are admittedly playing with fire by propping up the Lancea et Sanctum's power, and the occasional betrayal of fellow Awakened is part of the course. Power, the apathetic character that he is, isn't a fool and has no qualms with betraying Cherrim here.]
The Cabal departs the party, and we have an after party at their favorite diner. At this point, they've decided there's no need to leave their Nameless Order for the Pentacle or Seers, and that's fine but it won't help them for what's to come. A large wave of some magical force washes over their senses for a few seconds. Our Mastigos, Chufi, casts Correspondence to try to follow the trail, and is surprised to see the strongest connection is to her, while everyone else's weak connection is already fading away. Something about magic she casted on the moon (if you haven't read previous episodes, or if I neglected to mention it, Chufi spends much of her time studying under her mentor who has a Sanctum on the moon).
[Our dear Chufi did want to be betrayed by her mentor as a long-term Aspiration, and this is a part of it. And, uh, if you're familiar with Forsaken lore... well, they aren't exactly alone on the moon.]
Further investigations prove fruitless on anyone's part. Chufi makes a quick run to the moon. Hel calls Gwain, a character introduced through Reign of the Exarchs that is out of town, and learns the scope of this magical wave covers at least half of Phoenix. Cherrim enjoys a slice of pizza.
At this point, the party settles down for the night. The next morning, Cherrim and Chufi (Chufi's tapped out of Mana at this point, so she can't co-locate to the moon, thus spending the night at Cherrim's greenhouse), learn about an increase in crime rates from neighborhood Sleepwalker and friend to Cherrim, Micky. Hel, meanwhile, doesn't do lucid dreaming, but after a successful roll, was lucid enough to know something was up in his dream last night; a spectator or two was present, alluding to Hel's grand design in some bigger plan.
Next episode, we'll do a little catching up for our two missing PCs, who I will probably write "love letters" for, and then it's all about entanglements. The Cabal has accrued enough heat, and there's some things that's been bubbling up that'll maybe boil them alive as things come to a head.

Fall is in the air, and it is time for the aroma of pumpkin spice to waft around us wherever we go. And yet, somewhere beneath and behind that ubiquitous scent, is there another crueler tang? Perhaps a tinge of pumpkin guts, that suggestion of orange lives given up for our autumnal habit?
Naaaaaaah.
But the idea that there are darker things beneath the surface is surely imprinted on our thinking as gamers, and it features in pretty much all of our games – and quite a few other Tabletop RPGs that we enjoy even if we’ve never worked on them. Secret knowledge, buried secrets, layers of conspiracy (and lairs of conspiracy, and liars of conspiracy, but those are different things); these are all part of the draw for our gaming. At its simplest level, winnowing out those secrets gives us the story we’re playing.
From time to time, as fans, we can even see conspiracies in the mundane world of the business side of our hobby. I guess it’s natural, but it is odd, when you know the folks involved, to ascribe these complicated schemes to folks you know are just acting from mundane motives like increasing their profit margin. Which might be handled in a less than nice way, but it’s still a pretty non-complicated thing.
Plus, we have the human need to be important – every game designer I know has had a “confidential” conversation with someone who games where the designer has the complex plots of the creators and publishers explained to them concerning a project they were deeply involved with. I just saw someone start explaining to Justin Achilli how Vampire: The Requiem sold so poorly that it never outsold anything from the old WoD. Justin, pithy as ever replied: “Man what. Requiem was the biggest autoship in White Wolf history.”
Trinity Continuum Core art by Bryan Syme
Also, we do love our myths, we gamers. Whether the epic tales of gods and demi-gods, or that story about company X was a tax dodge so they let your favorite game tank in order to get a write-off, we do love stories.
Anyway, I bring this up because the occasion of White Wolf‘s CEO leaving the company last week has caused all sorts of pet theories to pop up as to the causes and effects. Well, I think you could easily just look at how these corporate things go and see that the reason Tobias gave, differences in the direction of how to manage WW, are exactly the sorts of things that happen in upper management.
As for how this affects Onyx Path? It hasn’t. Maybe it will, and I liked working with Tobias so I’ll miss him, but that’s not something we’re worried about here. That isn’t blissful ignorance speaking, it’s just that we’ve been riding the waves of this license for seven years now. Somehow, knock on Mirthful Mike Chaney’s wooden leg, we have managed to keep on making gorgeous and excellent projects for WoD, CofD, and Exalted.
Thanks to all of your support, we have been able to do so much with not only the WW game lines, but with our other licenses and our own games. We’re organized better than we’ve ever been in terms of being able to adapt to changing situations, and we’re even looking at getting out Kickstarter rewards a year to several months in advance of estimate for our next couple of ship-outs.
VtR2 Guide to the Night art by Felipe Gaona
So, I’m taking the time to give you these thoughts as a “so you know” sort of thing, should any of you need a bit of the reality of where we are right now. Plus, I don’t really want to always be chatting about business stuff here, and that’s all this is, so let’s get on to Monday Meeting talk:
1- We talked about the Dystopia Rising: Evolution Kickstarter, and while we had hoped for more buy-in from our respective communities, the consensus is that like Cavaliers of Mars, the KS gave us a good idea of our “early adopters” audience and a great start to put together the first projects of the line. This will let us see how things grow as we get into sales in stores and on DriveThru.
2- Related to the above, we’re slating in Dystopia Rising: Evolution demo games at Mid-Winter Con in Milwaukee in January. Also, Fetch Quest, Prince’s Gambit, and early testing of a couple of games I’ll confirm in the months to come. Some of these will be special “secret” sessions, and some out in the main gaming areas, but one that definitely will be out where other folks can see and hear the fun is They Came From Beneath the Sea!. All of the demos and playtests for this have shown us just how much players laugh when they play this, and we want people to see that!
Eddy and I will be at Save Against Fear in a couple of weeks as noted below along with a few of the other cons our gang are headed off to soon, and a whole slew of the Onyx Path crew will be at Pax Unplugged in November. A lot of our talk about these cons is Might Matt McElroy making arrangements, and since we’ve doubled our booth size and demos for PaxU, there’s a fair bit of logistics to check and double-check.
3- Our next Kickstarter is for V5 Chicago By Night and we’re going to give it a start date of “October” right now. A large part of what we need to do is get as complete text for the whole book as we can, and for that we need to work with WW – and they have been heads-down over the Camarilla and Anarchs books, so we want our stuff signed off on and that will take the time it takes.
4- Thanks to all of you for your support of last week’s VtM/WtA/MtA PDFs sale on DriveThru! Your efforts in trying to buy everything DTRPG had up are greatly appreciated! The Vampire: The Requiem/Werewolf: The Forsaken/Mage: The Awakening PDF sale is running for the rest of this week, and we hope you’ll check it out too!
5- Last Friday’s Onyx Pathcast interview with Satyr Phil Brucato, Mage: The Ascension Meisterburger, was discussed at our meeting today, as the M20 Book of the Fallen has the potential to be one of, if not the, darkest books ever put out for WoD in terms of the evil nature of the subject matter. Satyr Phil’s interview with Matthew does an amazing, if sometimes deeply personal and potentially disturbing, job of explaining why such a book is important from Satyr Phil’s point of view, and why we can’t ignore evil. Well worth seeing beyond the logistics of making a book like this and into the creative maelstrom.
You can hear it here, or at your favorite podcast venue: https://onyxpathcast.podbean.com/
This Friday, Dixie tells me they talk about ” …various pop culture things that influence us or that are good inspiration for our games, mostly movies, shows, and books. We also completely fail to mention Dracula. Or like six other obvious ones.”
Trinity Continuum Core art by Marco Gonzales
Tumblr media
Finally, next week I’m starting a little project that isn’t directly related to any of Onyx Path‘s game lines, but does speak to the drive all of us here have to create, even beyond those parts of projects here we contribute to. In my case, it is often a battle to juggle the business stuff I have to do with the creative side of things.
So I’m joining those artists who create an ink drawing a day throughout October, or as this project is known: Inktober. There is an official “prompt” for each day of the month that gives the artist a theme word to work off of, and I’ll be using that. My plan is to create and post a character a day, and while technique and materials may – hell, will – vary from day to day, and I’m not revealing yet what I’m drawing these characters from, there is an overall method to this madness.
I expect to post on both my Twitter and FB accounts, and Impish Ian will probably retweet from our Onyx Path account, so if you’re interested, you should be able to catch them day by day. Let me know what you think!
And now I return you to your regularly scheduled notice that we at Onyx Path create:

TODAY’S REASON TO CELEBRATE: It was yesterday that it started, but it’s still the start of Fall. Or Autumn, if you prefer. Anyway you say it, this is my favorite season here in the US, and even more-so in the Northeastern US where the colors of the trees have a vibrancy we just never saw in Hotlanta. Crisp air, finally, and cool breezes. Aaaah. Also all that pumpkin spice hype, but that’s OK (and it’s the constant hype that is the gadfly, not that you personally enjoy the flavor). And it all leads to Halloween and Thanksgiving!

Made a little character sheet for Onyx!
The template was made by @lucifers-paramour
And I'm slowly writing down lore for her, I'll write it under the cut!
Name: Onyx Age: ~22 Gender: Female (She/Her) Profession: Builder City of Origin: Highwind
Onyx is one of the new builders coming to Sandrock from Highwind. She wanted to make a change in the world, and seeing a position open in a town in need, she thought it was her chance to finally make a difference. In Highwind, Onyx didn't have many friends, Nia being the only that stuck the test of time, even if they started drifting apart after High School. People are usually intimidated by Onyx's stern gaze, leading them to believe she's unfriendly and should not be messed with. In truth, she's just reserved, but craves connections that always seem just out of reach. Maybe in Sandrock she can finally change her fate.
Trivia:
She's a follower of the Church of the Light. Even if she's not the most orthodox, she still tries to give donations whenever she can.
Despite this, she finds relics fascinating, and believes not all of them should be discarded, though some should be handled with care.
Relationships:
Please note most of these are previous to certain story events, and those events will change how she feels towards them.
Burgess: Despite her seemingly standoffish appearance, Burgess was nice to Onyx from day one, and did not judge her. He soon became Onyx's first friend, and she cherished him deeply, wanting to do anything to help him out in his quest for water conservation! Eventually, she developed feelings for him, and they started dating. Everyday she's with him is a day filled with the warmest sunshine.
Mi-an: While she was a bit afraid of Onyx at first, she very quickly realized there was nothing to fear. With both being builders and working together, they developed a nice friendship. Onyx enjoys having someone she can trust and with whom to discuss her passion.
Miguel: As a member of the Church of the Light, and the one handling finances and donations, Onyx and Miguel got to talk quite a bit. They don't agree with everything, but they still get along quite well. Miguel can offer Onyx advice when she's feeling lost, and she really appreciates him. In a way, he's sort of like a second dad to her.
Matilda: Onyx often goes to donate to the Church and ends up seeing Matilda. She enjoys listening to her, and they usually have very nice chats. Matilda never seemed to judge her, and this is something she values.
Pen: Onyx doesn't particularly like Pen, but they talk from time to time regardless and she tries to give him a chance. However, she gets very annoyed any time he picks on Burgess, and will not hesitate to let him know, though he doesn't really care. Pen respects Onyx's strength, and something may have happened when he realized her arms... are actually strong?!
Unsuur: They often pass each other while working, and while they didn't talk much at first, Unsuur admired Onyx's hard (like a rock) work. After a certain incident, they became closer friends, and Unsuur loves talking to her about rocks. With a name like hers, she's the perfect person for it!
Fang: It took some time, since both are pretty reserved, but after Onyx helped Fang with his experiments, a bit of conversation started appearing, at least from Onyx's side, helped a bit by X. Onyx could relate to his loneliness, and really wanted to help him come out of his shell, just as she had been learning to do during her time at Sandrock.
Dan-bi: They're not that close, but as a friend of Burgess, Onyx tries to befriend her as well. They don't always understand each other, but both of them agree that they will kick the butt of anyone who messes with Burgy boy, and sometimes that is enough.

Back with another silly MTAS drawing.
Onyx decided to help her (then only) friend Burgess convert ARCS so they stop wasting water. Did the flowers work, or was it her incredibly unsettling gaze?
Either way, Burgess was happy, and Onyx is delighted to have a new friend in town.
