who’s afraid of the dark?

“I don’t know how you convinced me to come back here.” She whined, sticking closely behind the other. After her first horrible and accidental trip, the girl swore to herself not to come back anywhere NEAR the school’s gym. Yet, here she was, back again at the graduate student’s side. 

“Just one and done— and you promised that you wouldn’t leave my side for even a second!” Another whine escaped her lips as she repeated the agreed upon conditions for her company. Malia’s fear of what awaited in the shadowy darkness had made her especially chatty as the pair stood before the entrance of the haunted house. 

“I absolutely must remind you that I barely made it out the first time around.”

⟪ blanket fort ⟫

it’s been hard for her to fall asleep in the slytherin dorms, with strangers sleeping to the left and right of her. she can’t hear the familiar pattern of her brother’s breathing and the room is unfamiliar. everything is unfamiliar and she’s been having a hard time falling asleep. even when she falls asleep, she’s been waking up with nightmares that she can’t even really remember.

she’s been lying awake for hours when she finally sits up in bed, rubbing at her eyes, a blanket tangled around her. slipping out of bed, the blanket wrapped around her body like a protective cape, she tiptoes through the darkness, frightened to be caught. maybe this isn’t allowed, leaving her dorm in the middle of the night, but she’s doing it anyways. she can’t go to jaewon, not when her twin is all the way up in the gryffindor tower and she’s down here, in the slytherin dorms, but there’s at least someone else she can go to for some comfort.

she opens the door to the third year boy’s dorms as quietly as she can, barely making any noise whatsoever, looking for the familiar figure of one ( @msunicky ) choi, also known as “best big brother figure” in hyewon’s young eyes. jaewon doesn’t count since they’re the same age!! esther. she keeps reminding herself that she should think of herself as esther, since that’s what she’s going by now.

“nicky,” she whispers softly when she finds him, tugging down the blankets slightly, her eyes wide. “nicky, wake up...”

running into @msunicky at the mokseong halloween party.

jieun’s plan for the halloween party had been to, well, relax. get drunk, forget about all of life’s worries and responsibilities. but, that plan is all but forgotten when she spots him. nicholas choi, she thinks his name is. she doesn’t know him as much as she knows of him, and that only because they’re on rival quidditch teams. she’d say the closest they’ve ever come to actually interacting was that one time he had hit her with a particularly nasty bludger sometime last year. 

normally, she wouldn’t have looked twice upon spotting him at a party. she doesn’t know him, doesn’t care about him in the slightest, and she would have assumed he shares mutual feelings. that was, until a rather... eye-opening? mind-blowing? conversation she’d had a few days ago. jieun had been at work, when she had been approached by someone: cora han (who, again, she neither knows nor cares for). 

cora had told her... things. honestly, jieun doesn’t quite know how else to put it. nor does she believe in, quite honestly, anything that the grad student had told her. because why, and how on earth would she somehow have a half-brother? it just... makes no sense. it’s always been her and her mother. just the two of them, against the world. and while she might be alone now, that doesn’t mean she needs or wants a new family. she has the kangs — they’re more than enough for her. 

but... now that she’s here, and her supposedly half-brother is right there, and alone, would asking really hurt? jieun suspects the entire thing is a prank, some crazy ex-girlfriend who decided to spread lies about the guy who broke up with her, just to get back at him. some real sick and twisted shit. 

but, if that’s the case, he would probably appreciate knowing about it. and so, she makes the decision of actually approaching him, ready to find out the actual truth (because, again, her having a half-brother? impossible). 

“hey, you’re nicholas, right? nicholas choi?” she asks to make sure she’s even got the right person, and soon gets a confirming nod in response. “okay, good. hi. you don’t know me, but... this girl cora, she said she was your girlfriend? — sorry, ex-girlfriend — talked to me the other day, and i just thought i’d let you know she’s spreading lies about you. i don’t know if i’m the only one she’s been lying to. god, that would suck, imagine having half the school thinking they’re related to you or something? anyway, i just thought you should know.”

twenty minutes

cora knew she shouldn’t have accepted that potion from professor jung. with the slight smirk from the older woman and the aggressive shove of the glass vial that was placed in the prefect’s hands, cora knew she should have trusted her gut instinct and threw the potion out the first chance she got. but with the young woman’s curiosity getting the better of her and the strong insistence from lia for her to live a little, she ended up taking the potion in one go. she regretted it soon afterwards.

soon enough, cora became hyperaware of everything around her and not in the way one would expect. rather than the eye contact she would usually give to others, her full concentration would now land on their lips -- the way they moved, pursed, puckered. details she would have never paid attention to before aside from-- no, no. stop there, cora. you are not going there.

she has to hide. after realizing exactly what this potion was, she knew she had to find somewhere safe. the best thing for her to do is wait out the effects of the potion until they wore off. it was simple. it should be simple. but where exactly could she hide with the most minimal human contact as possible? 

the carriages, of course. 

the plan was perfect. all she needed was to ride the carriage alone a few times and then she would be home free. simple, right? right. or, so she believed.

she figured the carriage had been empty; but of course, with her luck, she was dead wrong in that department as well. not only was she now trapped with another living soul in such a confined space (the heavy locking of the carriage door behind her definitely sentenced her to that demise), but now she was locked inside the carriage with her ex-boyfriend of all people. just great.

“i--” well, this was certainly awkward. clearing her throat, she took the empty seat beside him trying her best to remain civil and certainly trying her best to not look at him which, at this point, was easier said than done. less than a moment later, the carriage started it’s journey, not giving either of them a choice to choose otherwise.

“you can ignore me.” she finally decided to say after some silence, her hands fidgeting on her lap. her throat was becoming dry and her heart was pounding inside of her chest, but whether it was due to the potion or her own conflicted emotions, she couldn’t tell. this was definitely not the way she wanted her night to go, but seeing as there was nothing really she could do about it now, cora just had to bear with it for twenty minutes. she can do that at least, right? 

“...just twenty minutes.” well, she definitely didn’t mean to speak those words out loud. but now that they were, cora had no choice but to continue the thought. “nick-- can you just sit here with me for twenty minutes?”

Official Intro

hey guys!! it’s adri, back at it again with msu3rd! i’ll try to be brief with her intro so we can get to plotting! under the cut, you’ll find some background info + connections for cora and if you would like to plot, just like this post and i’ll hit you up on dms on either tumblr or discord! let’s get to it!

what to know

cora han was born into a small family that consisted of only her and her parents whom currently reside in london, england. both of her parents work for britain’s ministry of magic under the department of magical education.

both of her parents come from a line of full-blood wizards/witches making cora one as well.

she attended hogwarts starting at the age of 11 and was sorted into slytherin. this is where she finally met and befriend nicholas choi.

@msunicky​‘s family also works for the ministry and after their families had found out about their friendship, they were very insistent that the two remained close for future familial connections. at the tender age of 14, the two began officially dating.

over the years, both the chois and the hans made it pivotal that the young couple escorted and looked out for each other almost everywhere they went. although the relationship was awkward and felt forced at first, cora eventually did develop strong romantic feelings for her childhood friend and fortunately, it seemed like nick felt the same. 

however, things began to change once nick had discovered that he had a long lost half-sister which eventually had put a large strain on their relationship. and because nick wasn’t sure what kind of life he wanted anymore after finding out this news, he breaks up with cora after ten years of dating in order to find himself and start living more independently away from both of their families’ expectations.

it’s been a few months since their break up and cora is still not over it (though she tries to pretend that she doesn’t care oop...) so right now, she’s doing her best trying to avoid nick altogether or else she’s going to explode @ him v-v

but she’s also just trying to learn how to live a life without him??? especially considering he’s the only person she’s ever experienced life with so... there’s that  💔

apart from all that! cora, currently, is toseong’s grad prefect!! as well as the president of the choir club!! she is also a law major with a minor in international relations and her goal rn is to start working at the ministry as soon as she graduates as part of the international magical law department.

some personality traits: practical, perfectionist, meticulous, moody, ambitious, goal-oriented, proud, witty, straight-forward, observant, and protective... she sounds like a catch, doesn’t she?

one big thing that i would like to add before anyone gets any wrong ideas about, she’s really not a bad person!!! she’s just really guarded and is at a place right now where she’s only going to be thinking of herself after basically giving everything of herself to nick and their parents. so she actually might act out... but it’s nothing actually personal.

for anyone who’s actually close with her though, they know that she can actually be very warm and caring after those walls are brought down!! she’s extremely loyal to those she cares for and is quick to fight for them when they need it.

ah, cora... she’s just so hot-tempered these days. who wants to be knocked down a few pegs by her? they have to deserve it though because cora isn’t a bully asghdjfklg
