Art Project 5 : Open Work

Statement

For this last project I decided to do a digital drawing of something that I enjoy drawing--it is pretty much it. I love drawing wings and nature, they seem so unrestricted from this world and free. I think I thought of this work mainly because I have been stuck at home for most of the semester, as many others have. But today not only marks the end of one of the hardest semesters for me personally, but also the day I got my final vaccine shot! I feel free from a lot of doubt and worry, and this in a way represents that. Despite me being ready to, what seems like, start over, I will dearly miss this class. There are so many amazing artists that I immensely enjoyed seeing their work, this class has so many great creatives! I'm thankful that this is our last assignment, its a real treat to create with no limitations-- like we are really free!

I can't put into words how proud I am of my son Liam. He was always self driven in school and had some kind of kid-intuition that we were broke and that I worked my arse off for everything we had, so he never asked for much. He made his own way to MSU and perusing his education in engineering. So when he asked me for something to hang on the wall of his apartment, I couldn't be happier to forge him a sparty wall mount. Performance Art Readings 4

Preforming arts is something that I am familiarized in, as my sister is an actor... and i realized that i really am not that familiar with it. I thought all there was to the preforming arts was good acting, but there is so much more to it. The preforming arts puts into perspective that art is not something that is two dimensional. I think that is why I love the Dada movement so much, a movement that relied on the preforming arts. it made artists question what art is and that, as Roselee Goldsberd stated, "...the making of art is based (pg 26)". Art has evolved so much now, and theatre is much more respected in its field. The preforming arts is constantly breaking boundaries and creating their own rules alongside fellow creatives that are ready for change. In a way, Dada never truly died in the arts, unlike many of the art styles that took over Europe. It continued to evolve and stay with the narrative that artists on stage were just as serious about their work as artists standing in front of the canvas.

Supercut Artist statement

For this assignment I wanted to tackle that feeling of otherness, either the self that you don't want others to see or the one that holds the side of you you dislike. When I'm out with friends I act much differently than when I am at home or with my family. Even than there is a side of myself that I conceal because I'm afraid others will look down on it. This was kinda me taking on that feeling and trying to understand that no matter what parts of oneself is disliked, you are you, and that should be celebrated and embraced.

GIFs are something that I grew up with, as many others had. I never truly saw it as an artform, but reading the article and seeing the GIFs that were created fascinated me. Seeing that mix of something that everyone can do in the world of art was a delightful change, I think. They even worked out how to sell it, though I had to wonder what happens if the flash drive broke or got corrupted—if that was truly the only copy, how would they go about legally/ would they have backups? Either way, I think its an amazing thing to see, and I want to go to one of those galleries.

I love the aesthetic of this one. I think that it transends time and space with how its looped, as it continues forever unchanged.

The artist that made this one works in short GIFs and vidoes when he draws his works, and is a great example of artists that still work in GIFs.

I feel as though GIFs give us the opportunity to change things as we change as well. this updaded, meme-y Girl with the Pearl Earring is a good example of that. I love the reaction in this one.

Reactions are one of the most popular ways that GIFs are used, and I think this one illustrates that. it also shows the freedom and creativity that people have, that may not even be artists.

I love the smooth transfomation in this one, and how easily they made it to distinguish the differnt vehicles.

This one is continuous and mesmerizing, and reminds of of something that might be in a GIF gallery.

I like this one because that a GIF has multiple ways of showing time. This one is in real time.

continuing from the reasoning above, this one speeds up time, seeing a flower bloom, and without the hassle of clicking play a lot of the time.

This one shows such great, fluid movement as well as satisfying colors and aesthetic, I could watch it go for a while.

This last one shows how this isn't limited to real life or 3D art. Nothing is truly 'moving', but the added effect of glowing gives 2D art more life.

Artist Statement: Stages of Love

Love comes in many forms and stages, some sweet and rose tinted, others bitter and hurtful. This series is meant to showcase some of the differences in how one can feel about love or feel while they are in love. It tells of passion and how it correlates with anger, both intense feelings with a thin line between them. How one might be bewitched by love and fail to see warnings through rose-tinted glasses, or how the heart may beat like the throbbing of an engine.

The inspiration behind the works is largely due to valentine’s day, and the fact that one of the images I saved was that of Aphrodite. Something clicked when I decided to make the series, especially since some couldn’t see their partners on valentine’s day. It kind of fed into the anger and passion and how easily they can be swapped. I feel as though the process of cutting and pasting these images into a collage speaks to how fast emotions can change, how an image of one thing can be enhanced or ruined depending on what is placed on the image and how.

Disappearing Acts: Silent Forests

When I was younger the neighborhood that i grew up in barely had five houses. All types of wild life would find its way into our yard, and catching insects was something me and my sisters did often. as the years went by and the area become more developed, the animals would stop by less and less. it is now hard to find even a bumblebee in our yard.

this is what it feels like to me as more forests fall and animals are spread wide. each image has a flora in it to show that it is in the woods, and the animals and insects are erased to leave a silent image.
