Short walk to St. Anthony Main and back on Jan. 07. After a week of minus-something out, it was nice to get out when it’s balmy.

Took a smaller #mspwalk after the Vikings game up and back down #nicolletmall. It’s certainly getting close. The 🚌 stops look slick and I wonder if there will be heat buttons like the #LRT. The photo of the #peaveyplaza clock doesn’t do it justice, you can find 5 buck 🧦 at #nordstromrack and Mary Tyler Moore’s still happy! I hope folks check it out. Just one small part of the #2025plan and hopefully even an eventual weekend event/shopping destination. #mymplsdt #mdc #mpls #mplsdowntown #localmn (at Nicollet Mall)

Google Maps in the Minneapolis Downtown East Neighborhood
Downtown East in the Minneapolis 3rd Ward, the smallest of areas actually, trekked 7.0 miles, saw preservation, gentrification, X Games, a few interesting people, ruins and Nice Riders.
To me, Mills Ruins Park is pretty much the epicenter of Minneapolis. It’s close to the official birthplace by ruins, a bridge built by James J. Hill and easy pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle ways to get around.
The North Star Lofts have been around since before I became a community resident (Homegevity, you should claim that listing. It’s really easy to do). They converted them in 1997 which I believe makes them one of only a few condos surrounded by newer apartments. The parent company is pretty huge. I don’t know how vested they are in the actual community but the property fits well within the neighborhood.
The Mill City District Apartments are newer, managed by Village Green and uses a landing page from their national site for their Google My Business presence. This initially has a look of bigger property management dropping apartments like birds drops... well. They do at least a couple proactive things like include a wheelchair-friendly entrance and respond to both positive and negative reviews.
We used to joke that the 607 Washington Lofts had to smell like Thai food being about Sawatdee although they paint a pretty picture of themselves showcasing modern and sturdy features.
In Maps, it shows a complex at 801 Washington Ave North, highrises.com as their corporate site, and canned photos leading me nowhere whether it’s highrises, com, Longeveity or one of the same.
It’s just a hot mess. Just claim your listings, get local and control your online presence over the likes of Zillow and Trulio.
So a hastily-made up marketing slogan - Live here. It’s managed by someone.
Looks like I added a photo to Stonebridge Bank to their Google My Business last year. They recently changed over to Western Bank so I add a new photo to it below. I like the angle as it give users a good visual and description of where the bank is located.
I have this thing about Nice Rides. I didn’t see a Google Maps location for this station, but they show the 10th and Washington station on their own maps page.
Periscope really combines preserving with modern structure from a converted, older building, cool colors and even a sitting/bus bench with their own branding message out front on Washington.
Years ago, I interviewed with them when social media was almost in its infancy and fell in love with the building. Didn’t get the job, but they’re bigger than ever now even acquiring a space in Chicago.
So, the X Games are in town. It’s pretty spectacular but was surprised to see that outside of a couple blocks away from U.S. Bank Stadium, it’s a pretty normal, albeit still awesome downtown.
With limited parking, there are some cool, alternative ways to get there.
With the sponsored beer tents, local bar X Games specials, NE Taprooms and Distilleries may have been a step ahead of the game with their Light Rail advertising?
I’ve only been to Bar Zia once during lunch while doing a hastily-made YouTube video of people having fun for the 2017 Kubb Krawl. Was hoping for a slice or sandwich, but they only had frozen pizzas. Ordered a Slurpee they have displayed at the corner and the bartender asked if I wanted more booze in it since the ready-made one was kind of weak. I don’t drink so just ordered a soda and left. I didn’t really have a good or bad experience there. Not really even an experience at all, actually.
‘Spose I’m happy to have never needed Goldberg Bail Bonds before. I include this because there is a big local mapspam problem in the bail bonds industry.
Basically, fake companies who create fake listings marketed towards weary folks who need help now! At least, until a couple jerkfaces (me) started reporting them and getting them removed. So, if you’re at the X Games, you or your parents get in public trouble, they are indeed here a block away.
My old hang at Grumpy’s Bar & Grill often uses their on-site parking lot to host special events, in this case X Games revelers. Protip: Ask Paddy for a creation and get their Mac & Cheese. Delicious! A favorite part of a Google Review is prevalent as well.
This is the only place in the area where you wont find hipsters with small fancy dogs.
The Joule Building seems to be like a co-location space although calls itself a “micro business network”. I’ve only been there once to host a search marketing event. It does appear to at least host a shady “Internet Marketer” small network with just a little research. Those who know me know I have no tolerance for crap like this which gives the industry a bad name. Setting up shop and “Bam! You’re a marketer” is just a shameful approach.
This is just a favorite building of mine. Older, restored and in the middle of 2 newer, luxury-type buildings. Maybe it’s the rental office of one of them. I really don’t know. It’s just a nice fix within a neighborhood of gentrification.
Izzy’s Ice Cream. Just delicious. Easy parking, across the street from a Nice Ride Station and Gold Medal Park. They have a cool, now local story as well and the building fits perfectly within the neighborhood.
Speaking of Gold Medal Park, it was off to their next to where I found a young gentleman chasing birds. Chasing birds in a non-violent, playful manner. He was stumbling a little bit, became apparent he may be hungry for Cheetos, but I digress.
A nice relaxing hill on what’s a unique public-private.park.
Pretty much where Minneapolis started. About here a couple minutes ago I ran across Jim from Nice Ride, riding a Nice Ride and smiling. Hi Jim!
What may be my favorite street in Minneapolis.
The Washburn Lofts is a newer, locally fitted yet nationally-management Longevity who appears to build something locally and beautiful, and taking their revenues out of state. Maybe you could call this deceptive gentrification?
Again, at least pretend to be local and claim your Google listing.

Google Maps in the Minneapolis St. Anthony West Neighborhood
St. Anthony West neighborhood - To me, it’s pretty much all of Boom Island surrounded by a river, local homes and businesses, and churches. Lots and lots of churches. You can even help clean the neighborhood with their Clean Sweep program or attend their own Saturday Farmers Market in a church parking lot.
Nice Ride Station on the corner of 5th Street and 3rd Avenue. It’s one of a few stations in the community.
Church of all Saints - Been by it many times, never been in. Catholic Parish, Roman Rite. See them be social on Facebook and Twitter. Their Twitter presence is pretty bare. You could give them some love.
St. Constantine Ukrainian Catholic Church - 5 domes, 4 bells, each dome topped with a cross.
Side note: They serve pierogies during fundraising events. Per part of a Google review:
My wife and I have been eating pierogies at St. Constantine's for years.
Dickman Park basketball hoop - just a cool shot with downtown Minneapolis in the far background.
Elsie’s - Bowling Lanes and patio seating. It’s just as well-known for being a neighborhood place for food and beverages, and an interesting place for counting down to midnight on New Year’s Eve.
N.E. Yacht Club - Not an actual yacht club, but a cool, friendly neighborhood hangout to get your food and drink on... unless you’re this Google review guy.
Well to start it off the staff is extremely rude some of the things they were doing was uncalled for
Using the bike lane on the way to Boom Island.
All about Boom Island. Have a small picnic after a short, community bike ride or see Ween with thousands of your closest friends.

Did a solo, communty #mspwalk early morning. Got home after 6am to see Mary from WCCO on location for the Run the Boom 5k and half marathon just down at the river. So, brought the iThing and monopod down and hastily made a YouTube video to do my small part to showcase the community.

Google Maps in the Marcy-Holmes Neighborhood
Another #mspwalk, this time a bit over 9 miles according to Google Pedometer. Not sure, but I’d be up for a local sponsor in Ward 3 for a Fitbit to make trekking management a little easier and more accurate for these walks.
The Marcy-Holmes neighborhood is a bit bigger and very diverse between old homes, part of campus, public parks and gentrified blocks. It’s also the 1st neighborhood of historic Minneapolis for those interested.
LUSH is a modern gay bar tucked away, yet very visible from an older area off of Central Ave. The garage doors are industrial looking and gives it a cool looking vibe when open.
I like this section of the neighborhood. Older, preserved homes including this 4 plex for sale. Thinking of making a version of this photo to include on the LocalMN Real Estate Photography page, maybe with a Facebook ad specifically targeted towards Marcy-Holmes realtors.
Train, tracks, downtown Minneapolis, separation of two Northeast neighborhoods.
Dropped off and onto the grid from there to run right in front of Miller Bag Co. I took a photo for Google Maps, but claim your listing. It’s free and takes minutes.
The neighborhood is certainly bike-friendly. Thank you, Minneapolis.
Little did I know, MinnPost is in the area. They’re one of my go-to news sources and of course, they’re all over social media.
Their Google Maps presence is pretty bare. I did add the below photo and maybe you or they could give MinnPost some local love.
The Bunge Grain Elevator from Van Cleve Park’s baseball diamond. The grain elevator has 3 Google reviews, too.
The area’s mostly shut off to get to the Como neighborhood aside from a pedestrian bridge.
Because this.
Brought to you from the Marcy-Holmes Tree Stewards.
Welcome back to Marcy-Holmes - Dinkytown
Standard gentrified campus-area street on 14th Ave including Waxing the City and Jersey Mike’s.
I did not know that Gina + Will is a thrift store, and a slick looking one at that. It’s a Goodwill brand proudly displaying their social media profiles right on their glass door. Style loves savvy.
Tim Hortons in Dinkytown - The donuts are pretty standard to me, actually. What draws me in is the staff courtesy and the spotless store. I wound up giving them a positive Google review 7 months ago, but this one is my favorite:
I come here all the time for studying and all that lame college junk. Every single person who works here is so nice and so damn happy.
Maybe I’ve become more considerate in my 40s. 1 bike left at the Southeast Library Nice Ride Station. I wanted it. I left it cuz a college student, somewhere, is in a hurry to catch a summer class.
Frank from Philly and Andrea Pizza - I’ve had the pizza, never the Philly steak which I hear is worth the trip alone. It’s another gentrified building with college apartments on top. I’ve mixed feelings, but it does go to good land usage. For Google reviews, the owner, Antonio, appears to answer all of them which is a huge plus in my book.
The M Bridge on the U of M campus actually sways up and down while sharing it with other pedestrians.
Instagramable? The Bridges thinks so. See for yourself.
Alma Minneapolis is in a great location. It’s an upscale place right within an older, preserved neighborhood and it fits just perfectly. While there, try the Carrot Mimosa with Gamle Ode Dill Aquavit. They put that special touch right on it.
The Carrot Mimosa on Instagram
A favorite street in the neighborhood in which I believe is the back of Mill & Main Luxury Apartments.
At the very SW corner of Marcy Holmes lies Aster Cafe and St Anthony Main Theatre. A perfect brunch afternoon double header on a hot summer weekend.
It was a pleasurable 4+ hour walk, legs felt it but worth it to learn even more about a neighborhood in a Ward 3 I call home.
*Note - Here is a shared Google Photo Album of the walk for you to view, add, share, etc. as you please.

Interactive MSPwalk Monday 7/23 at Nicollet and Boom Island
Was trying to upload tags into Wordpress in our condo library, no go. Tried it in the condo itself, no go. So, off to an #mspwalk while it’s still sunny and somewhat warm.
A couple shots of one of my favorite bridges.
Ventured to Nicollet Island, went by LaSalle and their picturesque athletic field. This field sports soccer and other sports and is shared with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board.
I love this. A Little Free Library on Nicollet Island.
Waited for the train to pass. It didn’t come.
Did a 360 of the steps at the Nicollet-Boom Island footbridge. Submitted it and it took right away on Google Maps. Here’s the actual 360 photo.
Did the same at the canoe and kayak rental at Boom Island. Here’s the actual 360 photo.
A few more at Boom Island including a sign pointing to the nearby Nice Ride station.
Idle train, but got to catch just a little bit of downtown in the background.
DeLaSalle High School. Home of the Islanders.
Under the bridge, yo.

Fall Photos at Boom Island 10/10/17
I decided to do a #mspwalk yesterday with an intention of taking a few photos of Fall colors to eventually make it on the new website coming in a while, or anything engaging to place on social media. These probably won’t make the site, but it’s nice to have these in digital storage.
Google auto-stylized this photo that I have Deftones and Nice Ride pose for.
Lunch goers enjoying one of the many picnic tables at Boom Island.
Still my favorite Minneapolis spot looking at downtown across the river.
Wooden stairs going up to Nicollet Island.
The Northstar goes over this bridge to and from downtown Minneapolis.
One of many Little Free Libraries. This one at Nicollet Island.
Trees changing color at row of houses on Nicollet Island.
Pretty sure I scraped myself here. Nonetheless, the DeLaSalle Athletic field has a spectacular view of downtown Minneapolis and is shared with the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board.
The lonely photographer - by the tracks shared by the Northstar.
And the lonely tree. Nice spot to sit and think.

Google Maps in the University West Bank Neighborhood
Today's #mspwalk is in the form of a Nice Ride trek. The trek is in route to a root canal. This is the first dental chair I've sat in that gave me a personal Pandora choice. I mentioned 90's post-punk pop like Green Day and the first thing on the station was buttrock Godsmack, but I digress.
The root canal itself is at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. From talking to a few students, it’s the closest “bigger” or “acclaimed” school in the Upper Midwest with one student being from Grand Forks and another being self-described as an army brat.
The West Bank Community Garden has both communal and individual vegetable plots, located right in back of the Carlson School of Management with a Nice Ride Station on the East end by Wilson Library.
The Ted Mann Concert Hall is an awesome venue for symphonies to seminars. If your calendar is free on August 5, they are performing the Brahms Requiem which may melt you to your seat.
You can learn more about the hall and the music department by visiting:
Their site
Facebook
Twitter
YouTube
Instagram
The West Bank Metro Transit Station can be a hub for many with the Green Line right there and a couple Nice Ride Stations and bus stops right up the stairs or elevator.
The public art at this station is provided by Nancy Blum.
Remember the slope repair a couple years back on West River Parkway? To many, it was a “don’t remember what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone” thing. Now open again for a full season, it’s again an easy way off the grid to get downtown by auto, bike or foot. The Washington Ave. pedestrian bridge:
The Mississippi Queen right on the river and off the Parkway. Boarding is at Bohemian Flats Park and goes up and down the Mississippi through downtown Minneapolis. All the amenities and self-described as perfect for events such as weddings and group tours.
We’re now this much closer to figuring out the origin of the Shoe Tree.
And a 360 photo I took months ago.

Google Maps in the Beltrami Neighborhood
Today’s #mspwalk was a last minute decision and took the 10 Bus to the SW corner of Beltrami.
The railroad tracks on Harrison. Didn’t realize the cool, Minneapolis skyline in the photo until after I took it.
Beltrami Park is a cool, little neighborhood park with a playground for kids, open grass and a baseball/softball field. According to one reviewer, their bathrooms are locked.
However, its May and the restrooms aren't open! Hello! Where else does a guy go! On the tree and catch a ticket!?
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic church sits right in the middle of a residential neighborhood in Beltrami.
This is a beautiful church and great families and friends hearing or deaf get together to worship...
Now closed, Delmonico’s Italian Foods sits on Summer St. across from Beltrami Park. Apparently, their breads, handmade pasta, bags of sausage and spinach tortellini were big hits. As close to Italy is how a Google review put it.
The real thing, as close as you will get to Italy in Minneapolis.
Now reopened, Lien Son Restaurant is an easy 10 Bus ride from Downtown Minneapolis. I may have to come here just for their Pho.
Favorite course is hands-down their pho, egg rolls, sesame, basically everything on the menu!
The Summer St. Bridge connects Beltrami over 35W to Northeast Park and Como was closed last year for bridge repair directing bicycle and pedestrian traffic north to Broadway.
Because I walked by and it decided to pose.
I’ve never been. HeadFlyer Brewing doubles as a taproom which has become popular in Northeast. They have a social media presence, too!
Facebook
Twitter
Instagram
As well, I’m a sucker for the customized Google Maps on their home page and feel like using this function somewhere, some time. Now, take social from online to in-person and see their events page where they showcase upcoming game nights such as Bingo and Cribbage.
I always enjoy when Google reviewers call out employees by name.
Brittany with her service and knowledge and smile deserves an extra shout out!
Just down the street towards downtown lies Familia Headquarters Indoor Skatepark and Shop. They have a special e-commerce section called United We Stand, benefiting the ACLU and equal rights and liberties for everyone.
A cool Google review that even includes a couple of user-generated photos:
So much love at Familia.. The dudes who run both shops are awesome and the park is rad. You gotta check this place out if you haven't already. Big thanks to Steve and his crew!
Here’s some mural art out back at The Volkswagen Man. They specialize in both Volkswagen and Audi, keep an active Facebook page and have plenty of reviews on Google, Facebook and Yelp. I especially like ones that say things like this.
He didn't try to talk me into buying anything that wasn't absolutely necessary now, and he even went out of his way to get me a better deal on some parts!
For these photos, here’s a shared Google Album for you to use, add, share as you please.

Northern Spark 2016 and Throw In a MSPwalk
Climate Chaos and Climate Rising is this year’s theme. Food, beverage, music, art. All overnight from dusk ‘til dawn. Photos include a few of these and some fantastic views Minnesota has to offer.
A few upon arrival
A little bit of lightning while there
Off to the MSPwalk. North I35W from Washington.
Downtown Minneapolis from Washington/Cedar
A couple at the West Bank Green Line LRT station
Some from the Prospect Park area
Then over to the U because really, I don’t spend nearly enough time there.
Popular place for espresso
I swear I’ll re-learn how to play this thing
