Representation kinda boils down like this. Any representation, broadly speaking, is good. However, not all representation is good good. It's okay to appreciate the fact that there is representation in something while being critical of it at the same time. Minorities tend to get treated like porcelain dolls because writers become so afraid of activating a tripwire of a stereotype they overlooked or including some sort of coded bigotry with a community they're not a part of. There are a lot of people with good intentions who are striving to be respectful, but they get treated the same as people with bad intentions who are out here aiming to be disrespectful. Then members of that minority community get mad when people are hesitant to include any sort of representation besides being put in a glass display case. That's what you do to protect your porcelain dolls if breaking them is considered to be disrespectful. So, here's the thing. Do it anyway. Break the damn dolls. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. There are so many resources out there devoted to helping you avoid the obvious mistakes, get in contact with communities that are patient with you to help you work through your biases, and that are genuinely devoted to teach you how to critically challenge the way you look at your experiences with minorities. Use them to your advantage.

Mistakes are not the end of the world. Certain ideas and culture is inherently derisive, even amongst your own community. Gladly take your L from the proverbial basket, then learn from the constructive criticism, and try the fuck again. Just remember that there are some people that are going to be anti-you no matter what you do, so fuck 'em. You were never going to be suitable to their palette anyway.
