Parsley and Scrubmask hang out.
[Image ID: Parsley and Scrubmask face each other. Under Parsley, it reads + PLATONIC LIKE: SCRUBMASK. Under Scrubmask, it says + PLATONIC LIKE: PARSLEY.]
“So this is…” Parsley asked as Scrubmask placed a red-brown square the size of Parsley’s paw in front of her.
“We call it pemmican,” Scrubmask explained. She sat politely next to Parsley’s nest, situated in a cozy corner of the medicine den. “Fennelspot is visiting StarClan’s Shrine tonight, and pemmican will give him enough energy for the journey and give the Clan a reliable source of food while prey returns to the territory.”
“I’m not one to insult culture,” Parsley chuckled awkwardly, poking the square, “but this looks like blood-stained tree bark.”
“Carnationpaw made it from a hare,” Scrubmask said. “You dry meat and berries, soak it in the animal’s fat, and it hardens into these blocks. I think. I don’t know, we don’t have an artisan.”
“I suppose I’ll try it,” Parsley groaned, sniffing the pemmican. She nibbled on the edge of the bar. “Huh. Ms. Scrubmask, what do you suppose that sharp flavor is?”
“Sweetness,” Scrubmask guessed. “I don’t know. I can’t taste sweet things.”
“Well, you are quite clever in making this!” Parsley said.
“I didn’t have a paw in it,” Scrubmask sighed, staring out of the den. “Cooking seems like a waste of time to me.”
“Well I would have to politely disagree!” Parsley hummed. She took another bite of the pemmican and licked her lips. Scrubmask’s eyes drifted to Parsley’s cobweb-wrapped tail. The bleeding had stopped, thankfully, but most of the gray fur was hidden behind Fennelspot’s poultices and mixtures.
“How are you recovering?” Scrubmask asked. Parsley swallowed her pemmican and followed Scrubmask’s gaze.
“It hurts to move it too much,” Parsley admitted. “I’m mighty grateful you and your friends brought me here. I couldn’t have treated it myself.”
“Hopefully you’ll recover soon and be on your way,” Scrubmask mumbled.
“Well, dear,” Parsley chuckled, placing her paw over Scrubmask’s, “I’ve been talking to Ms. Downstar. She’s a very nice molly, I must say. We got to talking about what I would do when I’m recovered and, well… I was wondering if I could join your little group. Officially, I mean.” Scrubmask’s droopy ears perked up.
“Do you mean that?” Scrubmask asked.
“I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t,” Parsley purred. “Your leader told me how she wants to welcome more cats outside your little Clans into RippleClan, be a bit more open, a bit more diverse, all good things. I’m getting up there in moons, and I don’t want to fight off dogs and rats in a barn the rest of my days. I think I would like joining you on those patrols of yours.” For the first time since Parsley met the gloomy warrior, Scrubmask purred.
“That’s a good idea,” Scrubmask hummed. Parsley purred and munched on her sweet meal.

Duskkit sneaks out of camp and brings back some juniper after she gets stuck in a bush.
[Image ID: Duskkit has juniper berries tucked behind her ear. Underneath her, it reads + ACCESSORY: JUNIPER BERRIES]
---
“How could she get around you?” Downstar yowled as she paced around Oilstripe in the dim light of the crescent moon. The young historian squirmed under her leader’s furious eyes.
“I’m sorry!” Oilstripe groaned. “I stepped away for a few seconds to get Carnationpaw, and Duskkit was running out of camp before we got back to the exit! I’ve been guarding camp all night, how was I supposed to know Duskkit planned a breakout?”
“You still let her disappear,” Downstar hissed. “If she gets hurt out there, it’s on your paws, Oilstripe!” Oilstripe shrunk, lowering her head. Carnationpaw rubbed against Downstar.
“Downstar, even Puddlespeckle is out looking for Duskkit,” Carnationpaw cooed. “She wouldn’t go far. She’ll be okay.” Downstar groaned and marched over to Parsley by the nursery. The new addition to the group had volunteered to watch over the remaining kits while the rest of RippleClan scoured the territory. Rustshade’s litter were old enough to behave themselves and stay in their nests, but as for Downstar’s little troublemakers…
“We could help look for Duskkit!” Graykit suggested, playing leap-frog over Parsley’s wounded tail. Her adult eye color had taken over her baby-blues faster than anyone else in her litter, showing off a brilliant amber color. Those amber eyes screamed of mischief as Graykit eyed the exit.
“Duskkit is in enough trouble as is,” Downstar huffed.
“But we know Duskkit!” Halibutkit huffed from his cozy spot at Parsley’s paws. From the way his eyes gleamed, he seemed destined to have the same eye color as Graykit, adding another factor of confusion as to who was who. “We know where she would go!”
“You don’t know the territory,” Downstar reminded her son. A dark shape slunk in the corner of Downstar’s eye. “Shadowkit, you get back here right now!”
“You never let us have any fun,” Shadowkit whined. The stocky tom marched back to his littermates, dragging his paws in the sand.
“No one else is leaving camp!” Downstar groaned. “StarClan, you’re going to take one of my lives at this rate.”
“Mom, look what I got!” a tiny, proud voice called from the entrance to camp. Downstar spun around. Duskkit trotted back into camp with something tucked behind her ear. She acted like she had done nothing wrong. Oilstripe and Carnationpaw gawked at the black molly as she strolled toward the nursery.
“Duskkit, where have you been?” Downstar yowled. She raced to her daughter’s side and scooped her close. Graykit stepped on Parsley’s tail as she scurried up to the family reunion. Parsley yelped as the rest of the litter swarmed Duskkit.
“I went exploring!” Duskkit chirped. “It was great!”
“You are in so much trouble,” Downstar growled, pressing her nose into Duskkit’s fur. “You aren’t allowed to leave camp!”
“I know,” Duskkit chuckled. “That’s why I waited until Oilstripe looked away!”
“This is not my fault,” Oilstripe huffed.
“What did you see?” Halibutkit asked.
“Did you run into any cougars?” Graykit gasped.
“What’s that?” Shadowkit asked, staring at Duskkit’s ear. A small lump of juniper berries nestled into Duskkit’s fur.
“I was exploring the forest, and I ran into a bush!” Duskkit said, showing off the burrs and leaf-buds stuck in her fur. “I was really stuck in there, but then the black kittypet showed up and got me out!”
“A kittypet?” Downstar and Graykit said at the same time, albeit with drastically different tones.
“He had dark fur, like me!” Duskkit explained. “I got out and he told me to go home. I didn’t want to, but I heard Scrubmask yelling for me. I didn’t want her to carry me back like a kit! So I came home early.”
“And with a prize!” Shadowkit cheered, sniffing the berries stuck in Duskkit’s fur.
“I’m gonna keep them,” Duskkit declared. She showed off the berries in the faint moonlight.
“Duskkit, they’ll rot on your head,” Downstar sighed. She reached down to pull the berries out, but Duskkit nipped her paws and slipped out.
“No!” Duskkit whined. She ran toward the nursery, screaming all the way back. Her littermates yowled incoherently as they ran after Duskkit. Downstar groaned and slumped into the sand.
“Carnationpaw, go find our Clanmates,” she groaned. Downstar closed her eyes as her children rampaged through the nursery. She would deal with that in a minute. She could practically feel the stress eating at her first life.
Why was he roaming the territory?
(Downstar: 69, female, leader, adventurous, trusted advisor, very clever)
(Oilstripe: 14, female, historian, charismatic, ghost sight)
(Carnationpaw: 12, female, caretaker apprentice, compassionate, splashes in puddles)

Weekend Top Ten #630
Top Ten Chocolates
Well, there’s chocolate. And, there’s chocolate. But! Only Wonka makes your confidence sky-rock-a-let. So put your hand into your pock-a-let, grab yourself some Wonka chocolate!
Ahem.
The problem being, of course, that Wonka Chocolate doesn’t actually exist. Well, okay, there’s something called Wonka Chocolate, but let’s face it, it doesn’t make you fart hummingbirds or whatever. Sadly, proper Wonka Chocolate remains the province of tall tales and masterful musicals that shockingly didn’t even get nominated for a single Oscar, despite having several of the best songs of the year.
Yes, even better than I’m Just Ken.
Where was I?
Oh yes, Easter. A celebration of renewal, of springtime, and of course the inspiration for the classic film The Life of Brian. So in a moment of spiritual solemnity I’m going to focus on the true meaning of the season by writing a list about chocolate.
This is no hifalutin list of blends and flavours; oh no sir. I did consider that, but then I thought that sounded both like a lot of hard work and also a bit pretentious. No, this is just chocolate products that taste really nice. Not cakes or anything though; basically bars. Chocolate bars. And stuff.
And that’s all there is to it. Now let’s all eat like we’re in the Ironic Punishment Division.
Tumblr media
Dark Chocolate Orange: I like dark chocolate, I like orange-flavoured chocolate. There’s also something about the size and heft of the Chocolate Orange slices (segments?) that gives them a bit of gravitas; they’re small enough to have a few, if you feel like it, but also substantial enough to feel like a decent bit of chocolate on their own. Essentially, they tick all the boxes.
Dairy Milk: it’s classic, right? Now, generally speaking, I do prefer dark chocolate; I love those sexy Lindt bars and even a Bourneville. Those aren’t on this list though, but take it as read: they’re great. However, you really have to hand it to the simplicity and verisimilitude of Dairy Milk; it goes with everything. Snapping off a square from a big bar is one thing; but Easter eggs. Is there anything nicer than the shape and consistency of Dairy Milk Easter egg chocolate? I don’t care what comes with the egg, just give me several enormous Cadbury’s ones.
Starbar: going onto actual chocolate bars now, and I do like a bit of something in it. Starbars are great because they are soft but substantial; chewy, crunchy, and really jut have a lot going on. They feel light enough that you don’t get post-choc guilt attacks, but they also have their own bit of weight and substance regardless.
Cadbury’s Caramel: don’t give me any of that “Dairy Milk with Caramel” nonsense. This is its own beast. Dairy Milk chocolate, yes, but with really nice caramel within. Simply the best choc-and-caramel combo; sorry, Galaxy. And does anyone else miss the curiously sexy bunny?
Maltesers: I think I’ve become more and more drawn to the simple elegance of a Malteser as I’ve gotten older. The chocolate may not be Cadbury’s, but it’s sweet and light, and the soft, sugary sensation of dissolving one in your mouth borders on the sublime. I could probably eat a boxful if I allowed myself.
Peanut M&Ms: the connoisseur’s cinema snack of choice. There was a time when my wife and I could not be caught dead without a pack, either at the flicks or just in the car. However, they’re kinda expensive and very sweet and also the kids might have choked on them. But maybe they should make a comeback.
Crunchie: a thick, sturdy block of delightfully sweet honeycomb wrapped in a thin layer of chocolate. One of the most enjoyable chocs to eat due to its combination of subtlety and lightness and also it’s chonky boi energy. Can be soft, can be sharp, always tasty.
Boost: lower down the list than perhaps it really deserves. I really love a Boost, but they are superficially similar to the rather lighter and slightly more flavoursome Starbar. Their comparable heftiness can be what you’re after, and they are tasty. Plus – let’s not forget – they’re slightly rippled with a flat underside.
Reece’s Pieces: I struggled with how to rank these, because the actual Reece’s Pieces – the M&M-style things that Elliot feeds E.T. – aren’t that exciting and have that fake US chocolatey taste. But the other stuff they do – the bars and peanut butter cups and all that jazz – are amazing, probably the best synthesis of peanut butter and chocolate. So taken all together they rock. Despite being American.
Mint Aero: just pipping a Toffee Crisp at the post, because I couldn’t not have mint chocolate. I love mint chocolate, but it is something to be savoured, not an everyday delight. Whilst there are nicer chocolates and better incorporations of a minty flavour, there’s something about the softness and airiness of an Aero that makes it compelling.
Just bubbling under: Viscounts, Rolos, Munchies, and Kit Kats. And, of course, the aforementioned Toffee Crisp. Who’s hungry?

Behind a paid subscription wall. I HATE paywalls. After a lot of cricking my neck to see what I could make out, finally managed to put it together. Added normal measurements as it's originally in US.
Yield: 12 brownies
1/2 cup / 60 grams cocoa
1/2 cup / 113g butter
2 eggs
1 cup / 201g sugar
1/4 / 31.2g cup flour
1 cup / 150g chopped or broken walnuts*
1 teaspoon vanilla
pinch of salt
Step 1 Heat oven to 325 F / 162.7 degrees.
Step 2 Melt butter in saucepan with cocoa and stir until smooth. Remove from heat and allow to cool for a few minutes, then transfer to a large bowl. Whisk in eggs, one at a time. Stir in vanilla.
Step 3 In a separate bowl, combine sugar, flour, nuts and salt. Add to the cocoa-butter mixture. Stir until just combined.
Step 4 Pour into a greased 8 x 8-inch-square pan. Bake 30 to 35 minutes. Do not overbake; the brownies should be gooey. Let cool, then cut into bars.
*I have a nut allergy, so I would replace the walnuts with something else. Things I have used in the past:
chopped pretzels,
coconut flakes,
chopped stem ginger,
oreo or other digestive/biscuit bits (jaffa cakes are nice),
bits of crushed honeycomb (before Americans ask, not the actual honeycomb from bees, but the sweets. Well. Never tried the stuff from bees, but as it's mostly wax I don't think it would work)
chocolate chips/chunks/callets/buttons (dark or white, ruby, mint, butterscotch, kendal mint cake, caramel pieces, billionaires, etc), or other chocolate candy like crispy M&Ms, Terry's oranges, peppermint bark, chopped up
pumpkin or sunflower seeds (not my favourite, but fine),
dried / dehydrated fruit - cranberries, apricots, figs, raspberries, ginger, cherries, etc.
Most of the conversions were taken from here - https://coolconversion.com/ because I have no idea what the hell a "cup" means. All the cups in my cupboard are different sizes.
i don’t know if you’re taking propaganda for her right now but these are literally THEE best brownies you will ever have. katharine hepburn knew what she was talking about

Introduction to MS Excel: Essential Tips for Beginners
Tumblr media
Are you a student or a professional looking to enhance your spreadsheet skills? Look no further than Microsoft Excel, a powerful tool that can simplify your data management and analysis tasks. In this Beginner's Excel Tutorial, we'll explore some basic Excel techniques that will set you on the path to becoming a proficient user.
Understanding the Excel Interface
Let's start with the basics. When you open Excel, you'll be greeted with a grid of cells arranged in rows and columns. Each intersection of a row and a column is called a cell, and it is where you can enter and manipulate your data. The ribbon at the top of the screen contains various tabs, each dedicated to a specific set of tools.
Entering Data
To input data into Excel, simply click on the desired cell and start typing. You can enter numbers, text, or a combination of both. Press Enter to move to the next cell below or use the arrow keys to navigate. If you make a mistake, don't worry! You can edit the content of a cell by double-clicking on it.
Basic Formulas
Excel's real power lies in its ability to perform calculations. Formulas are expressions that perform operations on the data in your spreadsheet. The most basic formula involves using arithmetic operators such as addition (+), subtraction (-), multiplication (*), and division (/). For instance, to add the contents of two cells, use the formula =A1+B1, assuming A1 and B1 are the cells you want to add.
Auto fill Feature
Save time and effort by utilizing Excel's Autofill feature. If you have a series of numbers or a pattern, enter the first few and then drag the small square at the bottom right corner of the selected cell to fill the rest automatically. This feature is handy for creating numbered lists, dates, or any sequential pattern.
Cell Formatting
Make your spreadsheet visually appealing and easy to read by formatting cells. You can change the font, font size, color, and even apply borders to cells. Excel also allows you to format numbers, dates, and currency to suit your preferences or the requirements of your data.
Sorting and Filtering
Efficiently organize your data by sorting and filtering. Highlight the range of cells you want to organize, go to the "Data" tab, and choose the desired sorting or filtering option. This is particularly useful when working with large datasets, allowing you to focus on specific information.
Charts and Graphs
Excel makes it simple to represent your data visually through charts and graphs. Highlight the data you want to visualize, go to the "Insert" tab, and choose the type of chart that best suits your data. Whether it's a pie chart, bar graph, or line chart, Excel has you covered.
Saving and Sharing
Once you've created your masterpiece, don't forget to save your work. Click on the floppy disk icon (or use the shortcut Ctrl + S) to save your spreadsheet. You can also share your Excel file with others by clicking on the "Share" option, allowing multiple users to collaborate on the same document.
Conclusion
This brief Beginner's Excel Tutorial covers the fundamental skills you need to get started with Microsoft Excel. As you become more comfortable with these basic techniques, you'll be ready to explore more advanced features and functionalities. Excel is a versatile tool that can be an asset in various fields, so embrace the learning process and watch your spreadsheet skills grow

Commonly Used MS Structures in Construction Projects
Steel has become a primary construction material in most construction projects. But there are a variety of steels that are suitable per the needs of a project. Common MS structures include MS Channels, bars, angle, MS round, rail, pipes, and others of premium quality. Each has its unique feature and is suitable depending on the needs of a construction project.
Each MS structure is of high-quality steel and from the latest techniques. The structures have diverse features: easy-to-install, high-pressure pumps, anti-corrosive, and durability.
The structural items have good finish and are perfect for lasting construction, such as in trucks, cranes, conveyors, and others. These are perfect for building and bridge construction projects as the structures retain their quality.
Use of MS Channels in Construction Project
MS channels are suitable for construction projects as they are available in different sizes and shapes. The MS channel is perfect for use in various steel structures, including the construction of cutting, bridges, welding, and other industrial projects. The most common use of the channels is C-channels and U-channels.
Premium iron and steel are high in quality; the channels are perfect for wire plates and different products. The U-channel eliminates drilling and heat, is easy to modify, and is suitable for permanent repairs.
What is the Utility of MS Flats?
Every steel MS structure other than MS flat and MS round bars bears the excellence of the manufacturer. When hiring a suitable iron and steel supplier, it is important to check the quality of MS structures and how it sets apart from the rest. This marks its uniqueness and makes it perfect for construction projects.
With most steel structures, it is flexible to use MS flat steel bars and give it an ideal shape as per construction project. As a result, it becomes less challenging for the industrialists to cut and work on the flat bars. This is also the case with most other MS structures, giving it the best shape per project.
The flats are suitable for fabrication, shed, machinery, heavy structure, and other construction work. It is due to the following characteristics of the MS flats:
Robust straightness
Excellent dimensional tolerance
Helps with improved machinery
Therefore, the flat is a flimsy portion of mild steel with some thickness of the strip. It goes through low temperatures to grant high solidarity to the final structure.
The MS flats are high in quality and are perfect and accurate to give a suitable shape as per clients’ needs in a project. Flat steel is a cost-effective option with enormous use in the construction industry across many projects. The quality of the steel part speaks of manufacturing excellence suitable for project works.
High-Quality Iron and Steel Items for Projects
Try the premium-grade pipes, bars, rail, square bar, TMT, MS flat, and channels from Suman Industries. The smooth supply of iron and steel across India for industrial work makes the company prominent. Using the latest machinery and techniques helps keep the promise to deliver premium iron and steel products for construction projects.

Difference Between Bright Bar and Ground Bar?
Tumblr media
What Is a Bright Bar?
Bright bars are steel bars with a precise geometrical shape and tight dimensional tolerances. Smooth and shiny, its surface appears bright. It is possible to use and apply bright steel bars in a variety of ways. Rounds, flats, hexagons, and squares are available.

The Different Uses of Bright Bars
Round bars are used in the production of fastener products like bolts, nuts, pins, and rivets. Depending on the application and custom requirements, these could be micro- to mega-sized. Round Bright Bars are ideal for machining and making fasteners used in ambiances or domestic applications.
In India and around the world, round bar manufacturers manufacture tools and implements for technicians and mechanics using high-grade stainless steel base material. For machining and fabricating custom tools in custom shapes and forms, round Bright Bars are a good choice.
Bright bars in different shapes and sizes are directly used for manufacturing machine components like the smaller ones in automobile engines. To make these machine components, the manufacturers supply high-quality stainless steel base products to ancillaries and brands.
Engineering and construction projects often use round and flat bars. Bright Bars’ modular products provide immediate stability and strength, allowing the project to be completed quickly.
Trellis, fences, and rails in buildings are made from square, round, and flat bright bars. Today, SS bright bars are in high demand for making fancy trellises and staircases.
In automobile frames and chassis, different grades of steel bright bars are used. As a result of the precise dimensions in which steel bright bars are made available by the manufacturers, all these uses have emerged. Quality SS bright bars ensure accuracy and stability in the applications mentioned above.

New York State of Mind (Part 2)
I had planned to have this posted earlier but here I am, right before the end of our Peanut’s birthday. Whoops. Here is Part 1 if you haven’t read it yet.
These OCs and their world belong to @lumosinlove.
cw: mentions of food
_________________________________
It took the three of them around 30 minutes to finish getting ready with only minimal interruptions, which honestly wasn’t bad. Sometimes they could take an additional hour if they were distracted enough. But once Finn was reminded of the plans, he was not going to get off track.
Finn knew people didn’t think he was good at presents. They honestly weren’t wrong, he was really bad at buying gifts. He never knew what to buy. But experiences. That he could do. He liked planning things that he thought the people he cared about enjoyed. And his boys. He knew his boys better than anyone. So when it got close to Leo’s birthday, him and Logan sat down and began planning. While Leo was easy to please, and would’ve probably been happy just having dinner at their house, this was 20th birthday. It had to be perfect. And it honestly had been so far.
He watched as his boys pulled on their jackets, tucking wallets and phones into pockets, “Don’t forget gloves. And a hat. Not a snapback, Lo. An actual keep your ears warm hat. We’re walking and I’m not gonna give you mine when you get cold.” Finn announced, pulling his own hat down over his hair. He also made sure to grab a small backpack, just in case they purchased anything while out and that way it was all easier to carry.
“How far we walking, Harz?” Leo asked as he pulled his gloves out of his suitcase, tucking them into his pocket as he followed the other two out of their room to the elevator.
Finn hummed, glancing up from his phone, “Ah, less than three miles. But we’re going to make some touristy stops on the way to the final destination.”
Raising an eyebrow, Leo glanced over at Finn, “Final destination? Sounds sorta ominous, mon rouge.” He said as they made their way out. A wall of cold air hit them as soon as they walked out of the hotel.
Finn began leading the way to 7th Ave, tucking his phone back into his pocket. This was his city, he knew where he was going.
Him and Logan had taken turns planning days during the trip, and today was his day. It was probably his favorite one that he planned. He even kept most of it a secret from Logan.
As they walked down the sidewalk, Leo’s head was constantly on a swivel as he took in the huge busy city. He had been to New York for games, but he never really got to look around or do any of the fun touristy stuff that everyone talks about.
“I know where we’re going.” Logan shouted as he looked around, recognizing the area from when Finn had shown him around. “We’re go-”
A swift elbow to the ribs cut him off as Finn gave him a look, “Don’t tell him!” He interrupted, hooking his arm through Logan’s as they kept walking.
Letting out a chuckle, Leo looked up ahead to see tons of lights and people. His eyebrows furrowed before his eyes lit up with recognition, “That’s Times Square, isn’t it?” He asked, bouncing excitedly on his toes as he picked up the pace a bit.
Finn grinned, dragging Logan along as they tried to keep up with the giant speedwalker, “You got it, baby. We’re gonna do a longer stop here later in the week to look around and shop and such but I figured you’ve gotta get your tourist in Times Square photo to start out with.”
As they finally got into the square, Leo couldn’t help himself as he stopped right in the middle, spinning a bit to try and get a look at everything. He’s seen it in movies and pictures, but those could never do it justice. “This is insane! There’s just so many people.”
Finn took a couple pictures as Leo looked around, a grin spreading across his face, “Peanut, this way. I’ve got the perfect place to take a picture.” He insisted before he began leading the way.
“The top of these stairs is the perfect spot. You can get like all of downtown in the background.” Finn explained excitedly as he led Logan and Leo up to the top. The two boys shared a look as they followed him up, a warm smile on both of their faces as they listened to him talk. “So first we’ll do Leo by himself for his birthday, and then we’ll ask someone to take one of the three of us, okay?”
Leo smiled, making his way up carefully, “Sounds good, sweetheart. This a good spot? Can you get everything in?” He asked, as he leaned on the railing. Finn leaned back with Logan standing behind him to make sure he didn’t fall.
“That’s great, Nutter Butter. Now gimme a big smile!” Finn said, unable to hide the giant grin behind his phone as Leo smiled. He loved that smile. It took over Leo’s face, lighting up whatever area he was in. You couldn’t help but smile right back at him.
Him and Logan both quickly looked at the pictures, smiling as they scrolled through to make sure they came out okay, “Perfect, Sunshine.” Finn said with a soft smile as he looked up at his boyfriend.
As he showed Leo the pictures, Logan found a lady to take the pictures for them. She followed him up the steps with a grin, “Alright, who’s phone should I take it on?” She asked.
Finn quickly switched over to the camera app and handed it over, “Mine please. Thanks so much.” The three of them moved to the top again with Leo in the middle as she situated herself to get the best picture.
“Alright, boys, smile!” She said with a grin. Logan couldn’t have picked a better person, as she seemed to take a bunch for them, moving to get better angles and everything. When she handed the phone back to Finn, there were at least 20 photos taken.
Finn scrolled through them, setting his favorite one as his background before looking back at her, “These are perfect, thank you so much.”
She shrugged with a smile, “It’s no problem at all. Hope you guys have a good rest of your day.” They watched as she headed back to her group.
“Can you send me all of those please?” Leo said, resting his chin on top of Finn’s head as he looked at the cute shots of them. Finn had already created an album on his phone just for pictures from this trip, so he added Logan and Leo in so they would have access.
Looking at his boyfriends, Finn smiled happily, “Y’know, we’re pretty fucking adorable.” He said, holding up his phone background.
Logan shook his head with a laugh before pressing a kiss to Finn’s cheek, “Well yeah, mon rouge. I could’ve told you that.” He said with a smile. It was still weird to be able to kiss or touch in public without worry. They had only come out a month or two ago, so there was still that brief moment of panic of ‘Oh no, did anyone see?’ before realizing that it didn’t matter if they could. It was nice.
“Alright, let’s keep moving. If you see anywhere you want to stop today, we can. We’re actually a bit ahead of schedule.” Finn said as he glanced at his watch. They made their way down the stairs and continued heading down the street.
They hadn’t even made it two blocks down 7th Ave when Logan let out a gasp, his eyes wide as he clutched at Leo’s hand. The taller boy followed his gaze before letting out a laugh. On one side of the street was Hershey’s Chocolate World. The other had M&M’s World.
“Guessing you wanna make a stop, Lo?” Leo asked, squeezing his hand.
Logan looked over at Finn, puppy eyes in full effect, “Pleeeeease, baby. You know how much I love chocolate and it’s Hershey and M&Ms, I promise I won’t be too long! Please please please!” He begged, his hands coming up to squeeze Finn’s cheeks.
Letting out a laugh, Finn nodded, “Of course, Lo. But what if we just do one today? We’ll be coming back this week and that way you don’t have to rush through both of them?”
“Yes! Hershey’s it is! Let’s go!” Logan cheered, quickly making his way to the shop. Leo and Finn quickly walked after him, following his red hat as he ran through the doors. When they got inside, he had stopped in the doorway, eyes practically the size of saucers. The store was covered in different types of Hershey’s chocolate, as well as things like caramel apples covered in Hershey’s chocolate.
Finn chuckled softly as he watched Logan’s face, quickly snapping a couple of photos of the awe on his face. Fingers intertwined with his as Leo came up next to him, snapping a couple pictures of his own, “I’m gonna send a picture to Loops. He’s going to be so jealous.”
“Lo, you okay? I think this might be the quietest I’ve heard you.” Finn asked, nudging his other boyfriend with his hip.
Logan turned to him, eyes still wide, “I think this is heaven.” He whispered.
The two boys couldn’t hide the giant smiles that formed as they watched the shorter man start to wander the store. After the fourth bag of candy was handed to them, they finally relented and grabbed Logan a cart.
“Lo. Babe. Love of our lives. My backpack is only so big. Where do you think we’re going to put all this chocolate?” Finn asked as he leaned on the cart.
Logan shrugged, putting an XL KitKat bar into the cart, “It’s alright, Harz. The nice Hershey’s lady told me I could leave it here and pick it up later.”
Throwing his hands in air, Finn let out a laugh, “Of course she did. Is she gonna let us use the cart to carry it to the hotel?” He shared a fond look with Leo over the cart. In all honesty, he would carry all of the chocolate in the world on his back if it kept that smile on Logan’s face.
After around 30 minutes in the store, Logan had fully filled their cart as well as got on first-name basis with the ‘Nice Hershey’s lady’ who’s actual name was Liz. Now he was finally finished. They left his treasure of treats in the capable hands of Liz before heading back out to the road.
“Alright, now we’re heading to the surprise. It’s about 30 minutes, but it’s a nice walk. We go past part of the park.” Finn said, fixing his hat over his hair again.
They started their trek, stopping every once and awhile to take pictures at various spots like Strawberry Fields and The Dakota. Then they finally arrived, Finn stopping abruptly in front of a cool looking building. He was practically bouncing in place.
“We’re here!” He said, gesturing to the building.
Leo looked up, reading the name across the side of the building, “Rose Center for Earth and Space.” His eyes widened as he turned to look at Finn.
“C’mon then, it’s almost time for our turn.” Finn said with a smile, opening the door for them.
As they walked in, smaller versions of the planets were above their heads. Finn walked up the front desk, talking quietly with the man at the desk who smiled. He looked back at Leo and Logan, “You guys ready?”
Leo was clutching Logan’s hand as he looked around before nodding, “I mean it’s hard to be ready when I have no clue what’s about to happen, but let’s go.”
The man behind the front desk led them to a dark room that had a theater set-up, “Welcome to the Hayden Planetarium. You guys can sit wherever you’d like.”
“Where’s everyone else?” Leo asked as they sat near the middle, staring up at the huge screen.
Smiling, the man shook his head, “This is everyone. You have it to yourselves. Enjoy.” He said before walking out.
“Mon dieu..” Logan said, eyes wide as he looked around.
Finn fiddled with his shirt as he watched their faces, “They were advertising their newest show on the hotel website.. This one is called Journey to the Stars.” He shrugged before looking up at Leo. “Told you I’d bring you the stars, Le.”
Reaching forward, Leo quickly pulled Finn in for a kiss, “Sweetheart..” He murmured, resting his head on the other boy’s forehead.
They pulled apart as the show began to start, sitting back in their chairs. Logan smiled softly, reaching across the back of Leo’s chair to grab Finn’s shoulder, “I don’t think anyone can say you’re bad at gift-giving anymore, Harz.” He whispered.
Leo sniffled softly as he watched the solar system spread around him, the planets and the stars right there in front of him. Finn really got him the stars. His boys took him to New York just for his birthday. The amount of love he felt for them was overwhelming while also never being enough. He would spend the next 20 years and all of the years after that giving his love to these boys.
Watching as the entire universe flew in front of their very eyes, Leo smiled.
Because he already had his entire world. Right next to him.

Never Say Never
Pairing: Henry Cavill x Reader (Fem)
wArNinGs: Cursing (is that a “warning”?), Implicit imagery. Alcohol.
Summary: You’re in London for a movie premiere, and as excited as you are to be around actors that you’ve always admired, when you bump into the most handsome man in the world, all your senses leave the room when you both feel an instant connection.
Tumblr media
Author’s note: Hope you babies enjoy the beginning of this little story. First time going for a Henry fic, so here we go. Thank you for being here. Love you long time.
Also, if you want a tag, let me know, baby doll.
YA
———-
Not only was this your first time in London, but it was your first time going to a movie premiere of any kind.
You squeal and jump around your hotel room as you are about to get ready for tonight. You open the closet and look at the dress you were to wear, and you smile at it like if your child just learned to walk. It was a long, black, off-the shoulder, long sleeve dress, simple yet elegant, and since the moment that you got the news that you were going to this premiere, you knew this was the dress you were going to wear. You were not a size 2, and you did not mind. Being a size 14 was great. You loved having curves, and you loved showing them off. Yeah, you sometimes got self-conscious for being tall and curvy, but sometimes you just fucking loved it.
You laid your dress on your bed, your high heels on the floor, and your gorgeous earrings and bracelet on top of the dresser. You shower, shave, lather, rinse, and you come out squeakily clean when you get out of the bathroom. You feel like Jennifer Gardner in 13 Going on 30 when she is about to go to a club for the first time. Even Whitney Huston’s song I Wanna Dance with Somebody comes on in your Spotify app when you are doing your makeup.
After you are all ready to go, you look at yourself one last time in the mirror and nod, “Yeah, you look good.” You check yourself out and your ass looks amazing, yes! you exclaim to yourself.
As you are walking through the hotel lobby, you get a lot of looks. Some nice, some not so nice. But you do not pay attention to the ladder, you know you look good and no one is going to take away your confidence.
There is a town car waiting for you when you step outside. You know this because you had gotten a message from your boss saying that there was going to be a town car waiting for you outside your hotel at 5:00 p.m. The chauffer is waiting for you by the rear door and greets you politely, “Hullo, are you Ms. Y/L/N?”
You graciously smile, “Yes, I am.”
You head to ODEON Luxe Leicester Square, where the movie premiere was going to be held. You have dragons roaming around your stomach, maybe it’s the dress or maybe it’s the fact that you're about to be intermingling with celebrities.
When you arrive at the theatre there’s fans, press, unknown actors to you, and other nonconsequential people mingling around the blue carpet. Your driver opens your door a few paces before the carpet begins and you're grateful for that. How embarrassing would it be to come out the car, no one cares and just wonder’s who the fuck you are. Yeah, that was not gonna happen. But then you walk towards the blue carpet because that is the only way that you can enter the theater.
You walk behind all the managers, actors, journalists, paparazzi, just taking everything in. You were supposed to be behind the red rope interviewing the actors but there was a change of plans at your job. Now all you were going to do is enjoy your night and give the magazine you work for a well-edited critique of the movie.
You make your way inside the theater and you are stunned by the state-of-the-art movie theatre. Gold and white ceilings, teal sofas and chairs. The actors that were already inside were looking expensive and beautiful with the lights hitting their right angles. You only wish you looked that effortlessly beautiful.
You grab a drink at Oscar’s Bar and people watch for the moment. The movie was set to start in about 15 minutes, so what were you going to do in the meantime? Watch all the hot people. As you glance around the room, checking everyone out, your eyes fall on a tall, buff, composed guy. His back to you, but you could tell by the way that he was standing so secure of himself, his composure, those broad shoulders, that he was a guy that could break your heart. Fast.
But then he turned, and you saw who he was. Henry Cavill… He was better looking in person. You felt like someone had punched you in the stomach, it was like all the air in the had evaporated, not only from your lungs but from the room. He looked stunning.
Just. Plain. Stunning.
He was wearing an impeccable black suit with a crisp white shirt and a black velvet bow tie. His stubble was a little grown; it looked more like a short complete beard. His hair curly and a curl hanging over his forehead. You could not breathe and now it was getting hotter in there, so you fan yourself slightly.
You turn back to the bar, feeling your cheeks getting hotter, and asked the bartender for another drink. You leaned against the bar, not only to put less pressure on your heels, but to try and shake off what you felt when you saw Mr. Perfect.
You begin to drink your second gin and tonic and you feel your cheeks growing hotter. And then you feel a warm breeze hit your left side. You turn and he’s right next to you, but not looking at you, ordering something from the bartender. You slowly rise from the position that you were in, and it dawns on you that you were bending over very suggestively, and he was walking over your way. You just did not know if that was a good thing or a bad thing, maybe he checked you out or maybe he thought you were bending over for attention. You scowl at yourself for not realizing where you were and didn't act accordingly.
You take a deep breath and bring your cup to your mouth and chug it. You were gonna do it, you were gonna talk to him. You did not care. What could happen? He could just politely say ‘no’ or keep talking to you. Fuck… you think to yourself. You order another one and then the bartender asks Henry if he wants a refill of what seems like scotch, he says yes.
He downs the rest of his old drink and pushes it forward. You clear your throat and turn slowly to him, smiling. You are about to say something witty when a woman approaches him, and they start talking. He seems to know her too, so they start a happy conversation, with laughs and hugs.
You roll your eyes and pout to yourself. Whatever. You drink your gin n tonic as fast as you can so you can go into the theater and as you do, you take one last look at Henry’s beautiful back and curls; that itch to reach up and tangle your fingers in his curls messes with your mind.
You thank the bartender and look in your clutch to leave him a tip and you can only find a 5 dollar bill. Damn it, why didn't I exchange money?!
You look at the bartender and smile shyly, “Sorry.”
He takes it and smiles kindly, “Anything is welcome,” he says in his British accent. You grin and turn to leave. But as you’re walking towards the theater room, you feel butterflies in your stomach, and something deep inside tells you to turn, so you do.
You turn and your eyes land on his. His piercing blue eyes sharpened and roved over your figure. You unintentionally bite your lip and do as he did. Your eyes roam his form, his strong, manly form. His body was trim, and his height added an intimidating demeanor even if you were around his height with heels on. Your body immediately tingles at the thought of Henry picking you up from your ass, slamming you against the wall of your hotel room and fucks you like there is no tomorrow.  You groan internally and turn away.
His eyes never left yours and that’s all you could think about when you're sitting in your very plushy leather seat. You slowly look around to see if you can spot him, but there’s no sign of him, so you shrug it off. But yet, you can still feel that connection between the both of you, like that warm feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you get a message from the person that you like, only this time it was 5x that.
You lay back into your couch-seat and take out a notepad from your clutch and start writing down anything that seems interesting or stands out. After the movie is over and you are ready to burst out of your dress, you are anxious to get out of the screening room and head to the restroom, but everyone is making their way out at the same time. You look to both exits and see a quick escape between two older couples, so you quickly make your way to them. You slip in between them, apologizing, but in a way not sorry. You make your way to the restroom in a hurry before the line forms.
When you finally do your business, you feel sorry for all the women waiting in line for the bathroom.
You wash your hands, touch up your make-up and arrange your girls to look better. You check yourself out and nod. Fuck yeah, you look good. You walk out of the bathroom and head for the bar, you need another drink before you head to the hotel. Because what else was there to do now?
You’re walking confidently when you feel your dress tug from the bottom, then you realize its your heel stuck to your dress. You don’t know how you're doing it, but you’re still walking when you're releasing your dress from your heel, and then suddenly you bump into someone. A tall, strong wall of pure muscle. He catches you by your arms while you try to remove your dress from your heel, but you stop midway when you realize that its Henry that is holding you steady so that you can finish releasing your dress.
You feel an electric current travel down your arm where he’s holding you. Your heart teetered, dropped, and held steady as you both looked into each other eyes. His piercing blue eyes boring into you, baring every inch of you.
“Sorry,” you smile shyly and then remove yourself from his personal space.
“No problem with me, are you OK?” he asks, his voice rich and deep.
You look down to your dress and it was now freed from your heel. You turn to him and smile, hopefully you weren't blushing, “Yeah, just my dress got caught in my shoe, or my shoe got caught in my dress, I don’t know, but thanks for catching me.”
Henry chuckled and the deep laugh resonated off his chest, “I didn't catch you, you bumped into me.”
Yeah, you could feel your cheeks grow hotter with the intensity of his presence and eyes, “Oh, I- I’m sorry, I didn-,” he cut you off because you were now stuttering. And that only happened when you were felt like someone was flirting with you. And you couldn’t tell by his words, but by his posture and those blue eyes, he was definitely in seduction mode.
“I was kidding,” he chuckles.
“Oh,” you laugh. “I’m just saying cause well,” you motion to the rest of the people, implying that he was a celebrity and you weren’t. You didn’t want him to get the wrong idea.
He looks around with a questioning look, one of his eyebrows raised, “Cause we’re in a movie theater?”
You chuckle at his naiveté, “Never mind.” You stare at him like he is you. His light blue eyes cutting straight into yours with little hesitation and clearness, something that you have never experienced before. It is like you were both in a little world that only the both of you existed. It scared the fuck out of you feeling like that. You always ran for the hills when someone got too close to you, but with him you did not feel like running, you felt like he was the oxygen that was missing for so long. Like wonder and familiarity all at the same time.
Henry’s mouth curved into a smile, like he felt the connection too, “I’m Henry,” he extends his hand. You look down to it in amusement and smile.
You know you were blushing again, but you extend your hand, “Hi Henry, I’m Y/n.”
Even though he looked all strong and mighty, there was a tenderness to him, softness in his eyes, “Well it’s good to meet you, Y/n.”
“Same,” you smile and even though you want to stay standing there just staring at each other like in a cliché romantic movie scene, you start to walk away, “Well I gotta go, to the uh,” you point to the bar, but then change your mind and lie, “to my hotel.”
I hope he didn't think it was an invite.
He speaks before you can keep talking or walking, “Well, actually, some friends of mine and I are going for a late dinner, care to join us?” a British accent has never sounded so good. The dimple in his left cheek deepened, gifting you with a roguish smile that made you want to tell him to forget about his friends and go back to your hotel room so he can ravish you. You inwardly giggle at the thought but push it aside, you’d play later with that fantasy.
You narrow your eyes playfully at Henry, “How do I know that you’re not going to murder me?”
He put his hands in the pockets of his pants and chuckles, “You have a point, but how do I know that you're not going to do that to me?”
You put a hand over your chest and act shocked, “Me? I’m as innocent as they come. But I might try it, you gotta try anything once, right?” You say with a shrug.
“Is that a yes?” he asks with a perfect raised brow and a grin that displays his beautiful slightly-crooked white teeth.
“Yeah ok, let’s go,” you point your head towards the front exit.
“Actually, it’s this way,” he points with his thumb towards what seems to be the back-exit. He again grins and then holds out his elbow towards you. You look at in in surprise, your stomach does a somersault and then holds steady. Is this real life?
You walk towards him and hook your arm around his. You look at the few inches taller man next to you and say with a confidence that you’ve never felt before, “Let’s do this.”
He showcases his dimples and leads the way. You wonder what the rest of the night has in store for you and you slightly giggle at the possibilities.

Functional Dysfunction - Rheese - Chapter 1
written by @anotheronechicagobog
A/N: This is a new series I’ve been trying to work on and I’m so happy that I’m finally done the first chapter! It’s IMPORTANT to note that this the fic I took a survey for a while back so; Sarah Reese has a double specialty of ED and Neuro. Also, it’s a bit AU so be prepared for that.
Warnings: swearing, vomit, unplanned pregnancy, talk of abortion
Tumblr media
The waiting room was a decent size, but she still felt small. Surrounded by medical diagrams and leather couches, and pregnant women, and pregnant women with children. She felt completely out of depth and she was finding it hard to breathe. Her tunnel vision was only broken when the nurse called her name. The older woman smiled at her obvious nerves and Sarah was instantly relieved, not because of the woman’s assuring demeanour, but because she knew that if she had gone to a doctor at MED instead of Planned Parenthood, she would have instead been met with shock, judgement, and awaiting a comment from Doris.
“Dr. Singh will be with you in a few minutes.”
“Thank you.”
So Sarah laid back on the examination table in the flimsy blue paper gown with her unmentionables in the breeze, because of course, Sarah found herself in a situation where she’d need a transvaginal ultrasound instead of a pap smear. She closed her eyes and counted to ten, trying to calm herself down.
“Ms. Reese?”
“Hi.”
“Hello, I’m Dr. Singh. You believe you’re pregnant?”
“Yes, I took two home tests, I’ve been nauseous but only between two and four in the afternoon and one and four in the morning, I missed my period, I’ve been fatigued, and my breasts have been sore. And it’s... Uh, it’s Dr. Reese, actually.”
“Okay, then. Are you in your residency?”
“Halfway through my second year.”
“So you know how this works then.”
“Yes.”
“Did you bring any support? We have counsellors and resources you can use. Your mental and emotional wellbeing is just as important as your physical health.”
“I’m fine. I just want to get the pregnancy confirmed and then book an abortion. I’m in my second year of residency, the father was a one night stand, and my main source of income comes from my mother who would not approve of me having a baby out of wedlock.”
“I completely understand. Med school was hard enough for me without pregnancy and then a baby. We’re still going to have a counsellor talk to you about it beforehand, make sure that you’re making the decision for you and not for anyone else.”
“Alright, I guess.”
“Well, let’s get started, shall we?”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sarah was right, she was pregnant. She wasn’t surprised and it didn’t change how she felt. So when she walked into her next shift she didn’t expect a concerned Maggie to approach her. “Hey Sarah, are you okay?”
“I’m fine, Maggie, why? Did something happen that I don’t know about?”
“You’re pale, you haven’t been eating much lately, and you’ve been more tired lately. What’s going on Reese, are you sick? You can talk to Goodwin and she’ll give you time off.”
“I’m grateful that you’re worried about me Maggie, but I’m not sick or anything, I promise. It’s just stress.” Sarah tried and failed to tell herself that she wasn’t technically lying, but pushed that thought to the back of her mind and took in Maggie’s disbelieving demeanour.
“If you’re sure...”
“I am.” Maggie gave her a look that clearly said ‘I don’t think you’re telling the truth but your lie is plausible so I’m letting it go for now’ as she exited the doctor’s lounge, leaving Sarah alone. She took a deep breath as she put her stuff in her locker before grabbing a clean pair of scrubs. After she’d changed into them she looked into the full mirror of the dressing room, staring herself down. She willed against herself not to do it and lost. She turned to the side and placed her hands over her abdomen. She knew that the fetus inside of her was tiny, the size of a sesame seed, but... She didn’t know what she was doing, truthfully. So she shook her head and squared her shoulders before tying her hair back and walking up to the nurses’ station. “What have you got for me, Maggie?”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Andrew Pierson was seventeen and optimistic, something that both she and Rhodes admired. It made their daily rounds and checkups much easier. On most days they both went at the same time so that both departments were able to get first-hand results and to prevent miscommunication. The only problem was that they were always at 3:30 pm, smack dab in the one-hour afternoon window of Sarah’s ‘morning’ sickness. She did her best to quell it in advance; ginger tea, fresh air, mindful of what she’d had for lunch, and she was always drinking water. Sometimes though, like today, morning sickness couldn’t be quelled or repressed. She and Rhodes were discussing Andrew’s latest brain scan and what his injury meant for a valve replacement, when it reared its ugly head like never before. The bile was rising up her throat, fast and hot. She stopped talking in the middle of her sentence, drawing attention from her colleague and her patient. She didn’t register dropping her tablet. She darted into the adjoining bathroom and emptied the little liquid she had in her stomach. Even after it was all out she had to sit there dry-heaving. The burning discomfort in her throat didn’t bother her like it used to, and the painful twisting in her stomach annoyed her more than anything else at this point. When the hellish nausea finally passed she was able to register that she wasn’t alone. Rhodes stood behind her, holding her hair back for her. She turned to look at him and he clearly felt unbelievably awkward, like her, but she did see worry clearly on display behind his eyes. “What’s going on, Reese? You’ve been sick all week.” She hastily got on her feet, only for Rhodes to have to steady her when her balance wavered and mind spun from doing it too fast. After she was okay enough that Rhodes could let go, she warily made her way to the sink to rinse her mouth, only to find that there was some vomit on the edges of her lips and chin, only furthering her embarrassment as Rhodes tried to make eye contact in the mirror.
“It’s nothing-”
“Okay, stop. This is not nothing, you don’t think I’ve noticed how pale and nauseous you get every day? I may have my head wrapped around for too much but I’m not an idiot. Not to mention, you literally just dropped our patient’s brain scans to vomit. You are not fine, actually, you know what? Let’s just go down to the ED, get you checked out-”
“No. Absolutely not.”
“Reese, these are continual symptoms, they could be the sign of-”
“I’m pregnant.”
“... Oh.” Sarah bit out harshly, turned the water off, and left the bathroom, leaving Rhodes standing by the toilet, as she blinked back tears. The look in his eyes, the acknowledgement, the pity. She picked up her, thankfully undamaged tablet, as a demure Dr. Rhodes came to stand beside her again. “I’m very sorry Mr. Pierson, I think I ate some bad sushi yesterday. Let’s just finish our appointment and then we can get you started on your new preparation plan so that you’re ready for surgery, okay?”
“Sounds good, and I hope you feel better soon, doc.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dr. Rhodes had spent the remainder of Andrew’s appointment standing beside her clearly shocked and somewhat muted. When they both left though, he steered her into the closest conference room he could find. “Are you okay?”
“Of course I am, now if you’ll excuse me I have other patients that need my care-”
“What about you? Who’s caring for you? You’ve been really sick, and although pregnancy explains it, it doesn’t change the fact that you have concerning symptoms or that Maggie is one bathroom trip away from admitting you into the hospital herself. Because I haven’t heard anything about you in any of the gossip I’m going to assume that you haven’t told many, if any at all, people here. So is there anyone who knows? Anyone who can help you out? And what about the father? I mean you’re pregnant, you’re going to have a baby. Have you spoken to Goodwin yet? She’ll work with everyone to make sure that you’ve got everything you need-”
“Okay, stop! No one knows and I want to keep it that way. I’m not... I’m getting an abortion. And I just...” Sarah took a deep breath as she blinked her tears away. Not now, not at work, not in front of Dr. Rhodes.
“Hey, hey, hey, it’s okay.” He stood there awkwardly, his arms hovering around her form, unsure of whether he should embrace her or not. Sarah shrugged his hand away and took a few controlled breaths. “I won’t tell anyone, but, does anybody know? And I don’t mean from work, I mean in general, do you have someone to talk to about this? Or take you to and from the procedure?”
“No but it’s fine, I’ll just call a cab after.”
“What if something goes wrong during the procedure, who are they going to call? You have to list an emergency contact.”
“I’ll be fine, everything will be fine.” Sarah took a steadying breath as she tried to quell her morning sickness, again, and stop her body from shaking. “Are you trying to reassure me? Or yourself?” Sarah honestly didn’t have an answer for that.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sarah cursed herself constantly over the fifteen-minute drive it took to get to Molly’s. Not only did she reveal a pretty damning secret to one of the hospital’s top surgeons, but she hadn’t been able to get out of going to the bar with the rest of the ED staff. And since Molly’s was a firefighter bar, owned by a few members of the 51st firehouse, the father of her child was most likely going to be there. She sat in her car, trying not to let the dread fill her as she stared at the ornate door of what was now her least favourite bar, not that she enjoyed drinking enough to have a favourite. She took the seat next to Maggie and tried to join in on the laughter that was being shared amongst her colleagues. But she couldn’t, she felt hot and cold all over, her breathing was tense, her chest was constricted, and her smile didn’t quite meet her eyes. The fact that Jimmy Borrelli, the father of the unborn child inside of her that he didn’t even know about, was staring at her with familiar lust-filled eyes, and that Connor Rhodes, currently the only person who knew about her pregnancy, just entered and looked at her with a mix of shock, horror, and concern, did absolutely nothing to help with her stress or her pregnancy symptoms. Rhodes made his way over to the table with a guarded look on his face. “Hey guys, how about I get the next round?”
“You’re not new anymore Rhodes, we know you’re not a complete stuck up ass, you don’t have to keep trying to bribe us.”
“Thanks for your words of kindness, Halstead, but this isn’t bribery, this is me offering beer.”
“... Fair enough, man. I think we’re all up for it.”
“Great, hey Reese, would you mind helping me carry it all over?” The meaningful look Rhodes sent made it clear he was using this as an excuse to talk to her away from their co-workers. “Sure.” She tried to sound chipper as she hopped out of her seat, but her voice was tired and it cracked partway through the word. Rhodes visibly frowned and Sarah could feel the concerned stares from her co-workers. They walked to the counter and nodded at Hermann, ready to wait until he was available. “I know that you’re... ‘Cancelling your subscription’,” he spoke lowly, mindful of all the ears around them and how fast gossip flourished among the groups present, “but you still, you know, have it. Should you be drinking?”
“I’m not. I’ve missed too many get-togethers and because of my, uh ‘binge-watching’. People, Maggie in particular are getting suspicious. And honestly, even though I’m ‘cancelling my subscription’, I can’t bring myself to do anything to harm... You know. I, uh, I don’t even drink, really.”
“Yeah, I know. Is there anything else I can get you, then?” Sarah shook her head even though her stomach had turned on her and was eating itself. The bodily organ betrayed her, making an audible growl that could be heard above the music bursting out of the speaker directly above them and the loud mixture of conversations that made nearly everything inaudible. He raised his eyebrow as she scolded herself internally and tried to ignore the warmth creeping up to her cheeks at his bemused expression. “You sure about that? How about some food? I hear that Mills has taken up working the kitchen here, the food should be good.”
“The food is great! And I’m not just saying that because I own that place.” Sarah jumped at Hermann’s voice, not knowing he’d gotten back to them.
“Would you mind showing me a menu then, Hermann? I won’t turn down free food.” Sarah nodded her head at the man standing next to her with a slight smile on her face, feeling better than she had all day if she was being honest. “Oh, is the good doctor buying again?”
“Yes I am, which reminds me, three pitchers of Coors please, and-”
“Spaghetti and meatballs.”
“And spaghetti and meatballs, please.”
“You got it. Here’s your beer, glasses for everyone, and your food’ll be brought over to you when it’s done.”
“Great.”
“And Reese?”
“Yeah?”
“Give us a good review, will ya? We could use all the help we can get to gain some traction for the kitchen.”
“You got it.”
Sarah eyed the tower of glasses she had in her right hand, concentrating far more than necessary if she was being honest, to make sure that she didn’t drop them. When Sarah set the glasses and full pitcher down she took the opportunity to look around the tables at her colleagues. Everyone had gone back to their conversations, and weren’t regarding her with caution, except for Maggie and Manning. They shared a look with each other, then her. “I’m fine, promise.” They shared another look with each other before discreetly taking her hands into theirs. “We don’t believe you.”
