I love when episodes of DS9 age Julian because he looks so much different than Siddig ended up looking in real life because none of the makeup artists could have imagined what a damn fine silver fox motherfucker that man would grow up to be

TRANSPORT MUSEUM
I didn't realize that what I had been waiting for had passed, I left Malang Jogja last week. I started my study tour on Sunday morning, which I started by being late again.
Yes.... that's basically it, skip to the transport museum, we got off the bus then when we wanted to get in, THE QUEUE WAS VERY CRAZY, LONG. Yes... finally I went in to watch the car drift with Super Hiro who was dancing, it was actually strange to see but it was really stupid, then because I was confused I invited Nabila to take photos inside. Well, there I met Mr. Fadil, we were invited to watch the history of cars, inside it was like a mini cinema, there was Mr. Agus there too, and a romantic couple came, namely Mrs. Hani and Mr. Rudy.
After skipping it again, in the end Nabila and I walked together with Mr. Fadil and Mr. Nur. So we took pictures, I took pictures of Mr. Fadil and Mr. Nur, and when we got down, Mr. Fadil took pictures of us, hehe it was terrible, but those who wanted to have fun also joked around.
When we were about to go home, Mr. Nur disappeared, so it was just me, Nabila and Mr. Fadil, we looked for the way home but couldn't find them, but instead we found the teachers and Mr. Nur, we went up and down and around but couldn't find them, walking right and left asking here and there, it turned out the road was straight and wide and there were many good places to take pictures, but when we got out it was just me, Nabila and Mr. Nur, the others didn't know where to go, actually we were late getting out, but... because we were with the teacher so we weren't late hahaha. And we continued on the bus to have dinner.
Anyway, don't separate from the group, or you'll get lost hahaha, even though it's with the teacher, but that's the main thing hahaha. But it was soooooo memorable, especially since we got lost with the teacher haha. That's togetherness despite the hardships haha.

I'll add to this.
I teach in America and I have always had the kids call me Mr. (firstname). Now, that is more done in preschool than other schools before college, however that is changing. Several of my coworkers ALSO ask the kids to call them Mr./Ms./Mrs. (firstaname). Or Mr./Ms./Mrs/ (fristname first letter). When I take attendance here it is all digital, there is not a calling out of names. You observe who is in the class and put that in the system. All students in any situation are alphabetized by last name, be it on the attendance or when documents that are organized for us to send home. For privacy and expediency, kids are also assigned a class number and those are also alphabetical, either a-z or z-a, depending on teacher's preference. That way you can have charts on the wall that track progress without anyone seeing a child's name. The classroom mailboxes are labeled with the numbers, the cubbies for lunches, backpacks are done by number. Everything posted by display is done by number.
As far as family goes, here's where it gets interesting for me: My father's family is from the south, my mother's family from the north. As an adult I realized that my mother's family expected me to call elders who were not blood relations "grandma" or "grandpa" and my father's family (or my mother's best friend who was from the south) expected me to call elders who were not blood relations "uncle" or "aunt" or "auntie". Example: my godmother was auntie, her parents were uncle and aunt. No idea if this is a north/south thing or just a family preference thing. On some occasions, where the elder was a neighbor, I was introduced to them just by name and not asked or expected to use any honorific in front of it. As in "We're going next door to Dorothy's house, do you want to come." Not Aunt Dorothy, just Dorothy.
I will leave this here before I get into a rant about society making names that aren't English conform to our damned standards. It bothers the shit out of me when I'm looking at my student list and I see a name which is clearly Arabic forced into an English format (Using Siddig el Fadil for this, his name on my attendance would be Siddig Elfadil.) or someone who culturally puts last name first forced to do things the other way.
with the english-speaking internet being so dominated by usamericans i always thought my country was the odd one out in not giving so much importance to surnames (i'm brazilian, we don't even put them on the football jersey most of the time), so now i'm curious if the norm in the uk for things like roll calls is to have "[surname], [name]" as in the usa or just "[name] [surnames]" as we do here
(btw i've never called a teacher/professor by their surname in my entire life, didn't even know most of their surnames. when we're young we call them "aunt/uncle [name]" and by teenage years it's just their names)
Teachers in schools are Title (Surname), but yeah, not after that. Post compulsory education is very much a "You are supposed to be entering a learning community as an adult" type of expectation, so lecturers get given their first names.
Um, let's see... I assume rollcall is what we would refer to as the register, as in the bit where an educator checks a list of student names to see who's present? In which case, it's super old fashioned to call out the surname (posh private schools might, not sure). We just say the first name, unless there are two students with the same name.
Aunts and uncles are the same as you for most people, I think. I haven't actually called one 'Aunty' in years and years. My niece is five, and doesn't reliably call me Aunty (sometimes she calls me Uncle Elanor, even, so I think she feels on safer ground with just Elanor lol)
I do wonder about the prevalence of calling parents sir/ma'am in America, though, having an effect? Because to a Welsh mindset if you saw a man insisting his children call him sir you'd be like "Call the fucking social services immediately", whereas it's not uncommon out there. Parents of friends, too - in Wales everyone is your Aunty/Uncle anyway, but you very much use first names for them, not Title (Surname). I suspect that has a cultural influence when it then comes to university systems.

Anubis: It is my thanks. You were once a girl with your own Tita. Who taught you the ways of Egypt old, of when the Nile was full and flooding. She told you stories of the Wolf and the Jackal, the Red Wind, and of the Child of Bast. For that, I bring you to the Scales.

Unreal: what’s something you’d never thought you would accomplish but you did?
Get to talk to a person I admire, not once but twice. The first time was when the two of us went to the book fair to listen to Maria Turtschaninoff and get her autograph on Breven från Maresi - I'm still so happy the two of us got to do that!!
The second time was when I got to chat in the Sid city social club zoom meeting and just be me and have someone (Mr. Sid) just listen to me and not interrupt me even though I get very intense sometimes. And I got to show off my knittings too, how cool was that! I still feel so surreal about it tbh. Anyway, Sid is a literal human sunshine and I feel so lucky I got to talk to him
#peilinsirpale#Orion replies#yes this Mr. Sid is Alexander Siddig a.k.a Siddig el Fadil#Talk to the people you admire kids. It might be the best thing ever#also sorry if I make no sense - fever is hitting me hard with over 2C higher temperatures than my usual ones#Thanks for asking!!

Mrs Fadil
I've been thinking about Mrs Fadil in American Gods, and how Anubis comes to get her even though 'This is a Muslim house'. I think there's an implication there that we can never entirely shake off what we believe in childhood - and perhaps that's what returns at the end, regardless of what you have believed in between. I'm not sure where that goes - I don't want to think where that goes, to be quite honest - but that's an interesting and subtle thing to explore.
