This is a really special one for me. . I’ve always seen Fred Rogers as one of the great American songwriters. His songs are surprisingly direct while also playfully absurd. He tells stories in the same way a child navigates the world, looking up and out, trying to make sense of things. . You Are My Friend is made up of 11 songs from Mister Rogers Neighborhood, recorded for piano and voice. @kitshieldspere sings the part of Lady Aberlin to my Daniel Tiger on the duet “Sometimes I Wonder If I’m a Mistake”. She was the only choice. Not only did she inhabit the song perfectly she quite literally transformed my rendition from a rough draft into a finished piece. . The beautiful cover art is by @lake.anxiety.wilson and I couldn’t love it more. It was Lake’s concept entirely and it just captures everything perfectly. . The music video for “Some Things I Don’t Understand”, directed by @lilyeki and @atragheb of Dog Door Films, is a simple and beautiful portrait of Rogers’ hometown of Pittsburgh. You Are My Friend was produced with @normaphone at @electricalaudio and was mastered by Greg Obis at @chicagomasteringservice . @joshuafklocek does not appear on this record but in a way he is all over it.
