O, how I wish I had never seen him! Loving is misery for women always. I shall never forgive God for making me a woman…

What if...
This is the Supreme Archangel look but in Aziraphale's colors of course, maybe a tartan waistcoat. I'm still keen on gaying it up Bastille style.
Love this look 💜

That he had been from the time of Greenhill Fair until the fatal Christmas Eve in excited and unusual moods was known to those who had been intimate with him; but nobody imagined that there had shown in him unequivocal symptoms of the mental derangement which Bathsheba and Oak, alone of all others and at different times, had momentarily suspected. In a locked closet was now discovered an extraordinary collection of articles. There were several sets of ladies' dresses in the piece, of sundry expensive materials; silks and satins, poplins and velvets, all of colours which from Bathsheba's style of dress might have been judged to be her favourites. There were two muffs, sable and ermine. Above all there was a case of jewellery, containing four heavy gold bracelets and several lockets and rings, all of fine quality and manufacture. These things had been bought in Bath and other towns from time to time, and brought home by stealth. They were all carefully packed in paper, and each package was labelled "Bathsheba Boldwood," a date being subjoined six years in advance in every instance.

Eyes On Me
You’re staring again. You can’t help it. You’re meant to be reading as your husband is hard at work, but your pages have long been abandoned in favor of a more pleasant pastime, watching William.
Every now and then, in quiet times like these, your eyes will automatically find your husband, and your mind will start to wander. You start thinking about how lucky you are to have married such a handsome man, and you cannot help but want to watch him and his every movement, no matter how minute.
The way his eyes move across the page of his correspondence. The tiny furrow of his brow when in deep contemplation. Beautiful.
The way his lips press together in a tight line when he is displeased by what he reads, or twitch into an almost smile when he is amused. Gorgeous.
The sure movements of his strong hands as his pen dances across his pages, or the frustrated way he sometimes runs his fingers through his curly hair or his diligently groomed beard. Arousing.
It soon becomes impossible to imagine those eyes, lips, and hands doing anything but worshiping your body, and before long, you are lost in fantasy and staring yet again.
William, of course, is not unaware of your predicament. “Darling,” he calls softly, eyes still firmly focused on his work. “Are you well?”
His deep voice startles you from your reverie. “Hmm? I’m sorry, William. Did you say something?”
He smiles mischievously, putting aside his pen to focus exclusively on you. “I cannot help but notice you seem to have abandoned your book, Mrs. Boldwood. Have you found something else to capture your attention?”
“Umm… no…” you dither.
He pushes away from his desk then slowly rises, coming to sit next to you on the chaise. He slowly removes the book from your hand and sets it aside, lifting a hand to your chin and turning your face to his. “I can feel your eyes on me, my dear. Will you tell me what it is you are thinking about, or am I meant to guess?” He asks lowly, his voice seducing you already.
“Is it this?” He inquires, raising your hands to his lips and placing a soft kiss on each one. You smile and shake your head slightly.
“Hmm.. is it this?” He moves in closer to place a tender kiss behind your ear. You sigh happily, but again shake your head no.
“Perhaps it’s this you are thinking of,” he states, dipping his head low to nuzzle the skin between your neck and shoulder. He sucks lightly on the creamy skin, causing you to giggle at his tickling whiskers, but still you say no.
“What could possibly have distracted you so, my love?” He teases. “Surely it’s not this?” He wraps his arms around you firmly and kisses your lips with delicious fervor. You close your eyes to the wonderful sensation, and when he pulls away slowly, your lips nearly chase after his. When you reopen your eyes, you gaze at him with intense longing.
“It is simply you, my husband,” you whisper to him, leaning forward to hide your flushed face in his chest. “I am in need of you, William.”
“Then you shall have me, darling.”
——————-
He is staring again. He can’t help it. He’s meant to be sleeping after making love to his wife, but his slumber has long been abandoned for a more pleasant pastime: watching his beloved sleep.
Every now and then, in quiet times like these, his eyes will automatically find you, and his mind will start to wander. He starts thinking about how lucky he is to have married such a beautiful woman and cannot help but want to watch you and your every movement, no matter how minute.
He cannot wait for you to wake up and will keep his eyes on you until you do. Perhaps he will be able to distract you all over again. He smiles into the darkness and resumes his watch.
The End

So you're telling me Mr. Boldwood was the perfect suitor, he was hot and rich and loving, he kept on being her friend after she ditched him, he cried for her, he offered her financial stability and a home again after her husband tried to kill himself because of another woman, and he defended her from the creep who was trying to force her... ALL FOR HIM TO END UP IN JAIL SO SHE CAN MARRY THAT STUPID SHEEP DUDE?
EDIT: This is strictly about the movie adaptations, I did not read the book, so if Boldwood is a creep in the book, I wasn't aware lol

Now actually reading Moby Dick, I think that the way we in pop culture understand Captain Ahab is not quite accurate. Like, sure, he's obsessed with the whale, but I don't think that truly encompasses the Shakespeare-level tragedy that Moby Dick reads like.
For example, there's the fact that he has a family at home. This detail struck me so much when I read it, that "he has a wife - not three voyages wedded - a sweet, resigned girl. Think of that; by that sweet girl that old man has a child" (p. 112-113; Chiltern Classics). This piece of information is fascinating, because it speaks to Ahab having once had a life.
At this point we don't yet know the extent of his madness, his monomania (which btw was a bit of a trope in 19th century literature, another good example of a character with monomania is Mr. Boldwood in Far From the Madding Crowd). We're being given the contrast of his past and present state before we fully understand it. Which gives a wonderful sense of anticipation and suspense.
Then, when we finally meet Ahab, a cool 200 pages or so in, he comes off as a man both aware and uncaring about his own tragedy. When, after his grand speech, Starbuck tells Ahab of the folly of his mission, indeed calls it "blasphemous," Ahab does not truly contradict him. Instead he taunts Starbuck, pointing out that he stands along against the crew "one and all with Ahab, in this matter of the whale" and jeers that Starbuck will stand down - which he does!
This little back-and-forth is also fascinating, because Starbuck himself is a man with a fatal flaw. Talking with my Moby Dick-obsessed relative, they said that Starbuck acts like a Shakespearean foil. That he has a parallel journey, with a different, almost opposite, fatal flaw to the main hero. Ahab dismisses the madness of his act, the fact that he lost his leg to an animal who was thinking only about its own survival. To Ahab Moby Dick biting Ahab's leg off is not just the whale committing a personal evil against him, but Nature herself doing so, through Moby Dick.
Starbuck recognizes the folly of this. He sees, more than anyone else on the ship, that Ahab is truly mad and should not be allowed to be captain. Starbuck also does nothing about it. He accepts his fate and stands by while Ahab whips the crew into a frenzy. Which Ahab taunts him for! Both of these men see each other's flaws, and yet cannot change the inevitable tragedy!! Which is tragedy in itself! How Ahab, though mad, can recognize the flaws in other men but not in himself and his entire ethos!
Ahab is indeed a madman obsessed with this whale, but he's wayyy more than that. And I, personally, am very excited to read further.

Far from the Madding Crowd - Chapter 12
Chapter 12 made me smile because it proved my thoughts about Bathsheba -- that she wants all the men to notice her and pine after her. When Farmer Boldwood ignores her in the market, she asks Liddy about him. Liddy identifies him as Boldwood and says he was jilted in the past.
A few chapters back, Mrs. Coggan told Bathsheba that lots of woman in the neighborhood had tried to get Boldwood's attention and failed. With this knowledge and Liddy's addition, Bathsheba says, "I expect it is simply his nature to be so reserved."
Personally, I think Bathsheba said in her head "hold my beer", and decided she was going to go after Boldwood herself. Bathsheba told Gabriel she wanted a man who could tame her. I think Bathsheba really wants a man she can tame. One thing Bathsheba and Katniss have in common is that their thoughts and real feelings don't always match up with their actions and their speech.
