The spacious deck was submerged in the night—the grand piano stood out beautifully against the lights.
Kate: “It seems that no one is playing.”
William: “Lucky you, if there had been a queue you would have had to stand in line.”
Kate: “Fufu…Would you also wait in line, Will?”
William: “If I had to, this would have been my first time.”
Kate: “Damn… I feel like I’ve missed a precious opportunity…”
William: “Hahaha!”
Will smiled in amusement and sat down lightly on the piano bench.
He gracefully placed his toes on the pedals and gently touched his fingers to the piano keys.
Immediately, a beautiful melody flowed out, gently flooding the crowd.
Passenger lady: “Oh my…”
Passenger gentleman: “…This is…”
As the melody unfolded, I could feel the passengers becoming enchanted.
The all squinted their eyes in admiration as they listened to the sound.
(…such a beautiful tune.)
The piano played as if singing a momentary joyous song, bathed in a disorienting sea breeze.
As I watched Will’s fingertips lovingly touch the keyboard—I felt a bit envious.
(It’s selfish of me… to want that hand to touch me too.)
After playing one song, Will bowed to the spontaneous applause.
Will’s eyes narrowed questioningly as he came back to me.
William: “…What’s with that face?”
Kate: “What kind of face do I have…?”
William: “Like you’re jealous of the piano.”
Kate: “…That’s correct.”
William: “Haha, you’re honest.”
When I answered truthfully, my selfish lover laughed happily.
William: “For being a good, honest girl… I must give you a reward.”
He lifted my chin and pressed our lips together without hesitation.
A sigh could be heard from the crowd that had been mesmerized by Will’s earlier performance.
Envious voices, dreamy whispers.
(Kissing in such a conspicuous place…)
(Even though I shouldn’t be… I’m happy.)
Kate: “Nn…”
William: “I hope I made myself clear, that my partner is you, not the piano.”
Kate: “…Yes.”
I nodded, feeling entranced, and Will’s fingertips traced my lips.
William: “Apparently… I still haven’t told you enough.”
Kate: “Huh…?”
William: “We’ll continue, after the suspicion is cleared.”
(Continuing the kiss…)
I felt a tingle in my body as I imagined it, then I heard a whistle.
When I turned, the detective was leaning against the railing and looking at me.
(Mr. Reed… Oh, no, I’ve been spotted.)
Reed: “It was you. What’s that song called?”
William: “’Dedication’, It’s a song Schumann dedicated to his beloved bride.”
(…! “Dedication”…then)
--Flashback—
(Is this a…necklace? That’s unusual for a man…)
(Rita Thompson – “Dedication”?)
--End Flashback—
(There’s some meaning behind Will playing this song now.)
(It must be intended to solve the case.)
William: “By the way, any idea who the real killer is?”
Reed: “I’ve got an idea. I just can’t find the murder weapon, so I’m going to bet on a confession and ask him about it.”
William: “Hmm?”
Will looked at him with blood-colored eyes as if he could see through Reed’s heart.
William: “You don’t have a client, so why are you so obsessed with?”
William: “There’s no reward, you’re working for nothing as a detective.”
Mr. Reed sat up from the railing he was leaning on and stared straight back at Will.
Reed: “The reason I do it is for the peace of mind of all the passengers on this ship, and—”
Reed: “For myself, to feel the thrill.”
William: “…I see.”
(Ah…Will looks happy.)
I can tell he liked Reed’s attitude of being true to his heart.
The ambiguous tone of the conversation was imbued with a good mood.
William: “…Mm.”
Suddenly Will lifted his head and looked over the crowd.
William: “Ah, it looks like tonight’s star has arrived.”
William: “It’s almost time for this murder case to close.”
Ahead of Will’s gaze, a woman with tears in her eyes was staring at him.
(Is that…?)
Tall Man: “Rita! I didn’t know you were in a place like this. I told you not to leave the guest room!”
(Rita…?)
Miss Rita: “…I don’t want to… Let go of me!”
Reed: “Oops! There you are Miss Rita Thompson!”
Kate: “…! Rita Thompson is…”
William: “Shh…Let’s listen to the detective’s reasoning for a moment.”
Reed: “And isn’t that Viscount Spencer, whose wedding to Miss Rita aboard this ship was widely reported in the newspapers?”
(Miss Rita Thompson and her fiancé.)
(Well then, maybe--)
Reed: “Did you know the story about the man found dead in a third-class cabin who had a necklace with your name engraved on it?”
Miss Rita: “…Wha!!”
Reed: “It’s a pendant with your name on it… that’s quite a passionate gift, isn’t it?”
Spencer: “The man must have stolen it. That’s what a third-class passenger is likely to do. Wasn’t it a disaster, Rita?”
Miss Rita: “…uh…”
Spencer: “I’m emotionally unstable due to the shock of the murder. Now, if you’ll excuse me.”
Mr. Spencer forcibly grabbed Miss Rita’s shoulder and started walking to leave the deck.
Reed: “Wait a minute. Can I talk to you a little more… Hey!”
--At that time, Will whispered next to me.
William: “What do you say we help out our enthusiastic detective friend a little?”
Kate: “…!”
Kate: “Of course, I agree!”
Will and I approach Mr. Spencer who is dragging Miss Rita away.
William: “It’s just a stranger who’s died, but you look like you’ve lost your only salvation, Miss.”
Will looked at Mr. Spencer and whispered without giving him a chance to make up an excuse.
William: “Reveal your motive and murder weapon and turn yourself in.”
Spencer: “What…!? What is this…!”
Mr. Spencer walks to Mr. Reed staggeringly as if being manipulated.
Spencer: “…I did it. With this knife.”
Reed: “…huh?”
Spencer: “I killed him. Rita…because that man tried to take away my fiancée…!”
Mr. Spencer held out a paring knife with trembling hands, and Mr. Reed took it and pulled it out of its case.
There was still blood on the blade.
Reed: “This man is the murderer! Apprehend him! Lock him up until the ship arrives at the next port!”
Hearing Mr. Reed’s voice, the crew rushed in and arrested Mr. Spencer.
Rita was protected by another sailor and led inside the ship to keep her away from the sight.
(It’s amazing… In Will’s hands, it’s instant.)
William: “Let me hear your deductions.”
Kate: “Miss Rita and the murdered man were in a love affair. The fiancé found out about it and forced him to break up with her.”
Kate: “They fought—then he killed him.”
Kate: “That necklace was a gift from Miss Rita to the man. The engraved ‘Dedication’…”
Kate: “Maybe it was a song they both remember…”
William: “…As expected of my partner, you’ve grown remarkably.”
Like a reward, Will put his lips to me again—
A light kiss to the forehead.
Kate: “With this, the suspicion is cleared, right?”
William: “Ah…right.”
(…Just before, Will had said something like that.)
--Flashback—
William: “Apparently… I still haven’t told you enough.”
Kate: “Huh…?”
William: “We’ll continue, after the suspicion is cleared.”
--End Flashback—
At the thought of continuing our kiss, my heart tingled with anticipation.
(You can absolutely see through the question…right?)
I glanced over at Will, who was, as expected, watching me with amusement as if he was enjoying watching me being boiled down to my desires.
(When the two of us are alone.)
(I’ll beg you.)
Sailor: “Thank you very much! We can now offer you a safe and comfortable boat trip!”
Reed: “No, I need to… Excuse me…!”
At that time, Mr. Reed, who had been surrounded by sailors showering him with words of gratitude, rushed over to us.
Reed: “Hey! What did you do to the Viscount earlier?”
William: “I convinced him that if he turned himself in now, his punishment would be lighter.”
Reed: “So, that proud-looking man just…confessed?”
William: “I guess his conscience got the better of him.”
(As usual, he’s completely unfazed and unaffected.)
My lover cut him off so calmly, it’s so funny, it almost made me laugh.
William: “…”
He gave me a reproachful glance, and I sealed my lips tightly.
Reed: “I didn’t really believe the rumors about you, but… now I think I might believe them.”
William: “Do as you please.”
Will tilted his head without showing any signs of being bothered.
Passenger woman: “You’re our hero! Mr. Reed, tell us your story!”
Passenger child: “Hey, how did you know he was the culprit?”
Reed: “That question, you should answer too, come with me.”
William: “Unfortunately, I’m busy spoiling my lover.”
Kate: “…!”
Will shrugged and gently hugged my waist.
William: “Life is a gift I don’t want to waste.”
William: “I’ll be counting on you when another murder happens, Walter.”
As soon as I turned around with Will, a crowd surrounded Mr. Reed behind us.
Kate: “…is it ‘wrong’ to be a hero for justice?”
William: “It’s a relative matter, Kate. If it’s time wih you or hero interviews, there’s no need to compare them on a scale.”
Kate: “Fufu… I agree.”
William: “Well…Kate…”
Kate: “What is it, Will?”
His blood-colored eyes were filled with a bewitching heat as he stared at me,
As if pondering where to feed his sweetly simmering desires.
William: “The suspicion has been cleared, are you ready to be pampered?”
Kate: “…Of course, always.”

How 80s Rock (and rock in general) influenced The Sandman
Okay, this is a list that has been mostly confirmed. I won’t add speculation like “Robert Smith is the basis for Morpheus’s hair.” or “Peter Murphy is the basis for Morpheus.” This will only contain things that have been confirmed in various sources. Lucifer - Meant to look and sound like David Bowie circa 1969. (Confirmed multiple times by Neil Gaiman. In fact Michael Sheen is doing a David Bowie impersonation while voicing Lucifer for The Sandman audio drama adaptation. Neil Gaiman has even said that Gwendoline Christie looks more like David Bowie than Tom Ellis does.)
Death of The Endless - Originally Neil wanted her to resemble Nico but she ended up looking like the Cinnamon Hadley instead. In The Sandman Overture, according to J. H. Williams III, his depiction of Death is meant to resemble Siouxsie of Siouxsie and the Banshees.
John Constantine - Though not an original creation of Neil Gaiman (first created by Alan Moore), John Constantine was supposed to have resembled rock star, Sting. (roughly 1985 look.)
Desire of The Endless - Desire was, at least partly, inspired by the Duran Duran album cover Rio. The cover was painted by Patrick Nagel and designed by Malcolm Garrett. When Neil was starting out as a writer one of the first things he wrote was a book on Duran Duran.
Another inspiration for Desire came from Annie Lennox’s look for the music video “Sweet Dreams (are made of this).” Ironic considering the title.
Delirium of The Endless - Though Neil Gaiman did not meet Tori Amos until after he had created Delirium, he insists that Delirium was somehow inspired by Tori Amos.
Men of Good Fortune - The issue / Chapter of The Sandman called Men of Good Fortune is named after a song by Lou Reed. Sunday Morning - The issue / Chapter called Sunday Morning is also named after a Lou Reed (Velvet Underground) song. So that is two Hob Gadling chapters named for Lou Reed Songs. Beginning to see the Light - The Sandman: A game of You issue / chapter named Beginning to see the Light is also named for a Velvet Underground song. Dream songs - Roy Orbison’s In dreams plays in The Sandman issue Dream a little Dream of me. The issue / chapter is named after a song. And Mr. Sandman (Bring me a Dream) by the Chordettes is also in that issue. The Skye Boat song - Not actually a rock song by any interpretation of the term but I thought I’d mention it. Many of you may recognize the Skye Boat song as the “theme song to Outlander.” This song is referenced in The Sandman: A Game of You. Labyrinth - Neil Gaiman is an admitted fan of the Jim Henson film Labyrinth. A friend of mine insisted that Morpheus is “Goth Jareth” (David Bowie’s character in Labyrinth). And a Game of You has some plot similarities to Labyrinth. Labyrinth has six original songs by David Bowie.
Queen - It’s no secret that Neil Gaiman is a Queen and David Bowie fan and tends to reference both whenever possible in his writing. The Sandman Brief lives is no exception. When Delirium wanders into a night club two men are discussing the death of Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of Queen, and one mentions someone making the crude joke of “Another One Bites the Dust” (a popular 1980 Queen song).
There are many more rock music references in The Sandman but these are the ones I could remember off-hand. Think how strange it would be if all of these (80s) rock elements were removed from The Sandman somehow.
And this is a more recent connection but John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and The Angry Inch) plays Hal AKA Dolly, the drag queen, in The Sandman Netflix series storyline called The Doll’s House.

Who should play Mr. Fantastic in the MCU?
With the upcoming MCU Fantastic Four movie set for 2025, as soon as the writer's strike comes to an end, we will likely get our cast for the film dropped. Before that time comes, I thought I would give me two cents for who should play each role, starting with our leading man.
Perhaps the most over fan casted character in the past year, Reed Richards is a particularly hard nail to hit on the head. While the characteristics are simple enough, smartest man in world, leader of the fantastic, emotionally distant, maybe a bit awkward, borderline mad scientist, all of those traits can easily be attributed to a number of different actors.
Depending on how you want to play it, there has been a number of fantastic (pun intended) options thrown around the rumor mill: Penn Badgley, John Krasinski returning, Glenn Howerton, William Jackson Harper, Adam Driver, Matt Smith, and oh so many more.
While I like a lot of these and really wouldn't be upset with most of them, I thought I'd throw my three ideas in the ring.
I will also say, my initial pick was William Jackson Harper, but twitter and one of my favorite Fan Casters Nando V Movies (go check out their YouTube channel) already casted him. But if he got it, I would be very pleased.
Finally, I'll preface, I am going for originality. There have been SO many picks for Mr. Fantastic. I tried so desperately hard to pick actors I haven't heard brought up who can do an amazing job.
First, as always, let's look back and three renditions we got:
Ioan Gruffudd
I don't have strong feelings about this particular version of the character. He hit the notes he needed to but there really wasn't alot for him or Jessica Alba to do in the film.
Gruffudd did a solid job at playing the straight man, letting Evans and Chiklis play off of him fairly well.
He was also fairly good at playing a realistic nerd. He didn't feel like someone who was on the football team, which other Fantastics lacked. We need someone who can feel believably awkward. More Maguire less Garfield.
Miles Teller
*sigh* Fan4stic is definitely a movie.
Miles Teller and the cast do what they can with what they were given, but there isn't much for me to dissect here. Teller does a good job with the awkward nerdiness, but he lacks the believable confidence to be a leader. Fantastic should be confident in his intelligence, Teller wasn't there yet.
We need someone who can believably be a leader.
John Krasinski
I think for what he is given, Krasinski does a solid job at a particular kind of Mr. Fantastic. That is to say, he is a Mr. Fantastic who has done his three movies and has learned the importance of family and connecting with people and taking care of others.
That being said, as a flawed Fantastic, he's boring. Yes he is strong, confident, and feels like a leader, but that's all I'll give him.
So clearly, we don't have a lot to work with as far as definitive versions of the character goes.
What ethnicity is Mr. Fantastic?
Mr. Fantastic does not have a particular ethnic identity in the comics. There is one piece of comic lure that I think is interesting when discussing Mr. Fantastic, particularly in the MCU.
You see one of Reed Richards descendants is Nathaniel Richards, a time travelling super-genius from the 31st century, wo becomes a supervillain warlord known as..
Kang the Conqueror.
While his lineage is sometimes questionable, I think this wrinkle puts a potential for people of color playing this role.
However, Kang could be mixed, and with the fact Mr. Fantastic isn't really any particular ethnicity, I think casting anyone is okay.
Other Stipulations
Mr. Fantastic may be one of the major leads of the MCU moving forward. We are casting the main enemy of Galactus, Doctor Doom, and maybe even Kang. We are looking for a Downey or Evans, someone great.
As the leader of the Fantastic Four, we need someone who can believably be the smartest person in the room. With his powers, his intelligence, and his borderline madness when it comes to science, Mr. Fantastic should feel like a threat to someone like Doom.
I'm looking for someone in their mid 30s to mid 40s. He needs to feel older than Johnny but young enough to keep this going for awhile.
We need someone confident who could lead the team but can be a little awkward to be around. Almost Batman like.
I'd like taller and lanky as far as look goes, and if they can grow a nice beard that's a plus. Any ethnicity is good.
As always, I'm looking for someone who hasn't played a major superhero role.
Let's get into it:
3. Dev Patel
Kicking off our list with the safest choice, Dev Patel is one of those actors you're surprised isn't already a superhero. From roles in the Green Knight, Slumdog Millionaire, and Modern Love, Patel is a fan favorite actor with range to compete with the big names. At 33, He is the youngest person on my list and most qualified for the job.
He has played intelligent in roles like in Chappie, has done dangerous in the Green Knight, and villains in roles like Zuko (sorry I had to bring up The Last Airbender).
My worry with Patel is he may be a little too likeable. I want a character we can warm up to, which is hard balance. He also seems like an actor who could potentially be great as a different character. Maybe even Doctor Doom.
I definitely think he has the chops and the potential to be a great lead, not just for the Fantastic Four but the MCU.
2. Zachary Quinto
When casting in Sci-Fi, it's always good to cast someone who has pull in nerd circles.
Known for roles in Star Trek, Heroes, American Horror Story and Invincible, Zachary Quinto is always a treat to watch.
He was originally my top choice to play Doctor Strange in the MCU, but I think for those same reasons, he could do an excellent Mr. Fantastic.
Zachary Quinto is great at playing characters just a little off from human. Spock is a great example of this, but I'd look closer at Robot from Invincible. He displays real emotion through a robotic voice throughout the show, and quickly became my favorite character. I think bringing a little humanity to Reed can help us follow and grow with him as the movies progress.
Quinto also has a solid background in playing villains. He has voiced Lex Luthor, and even played a superpowered serial killer, Sylar, in the hit NBC series Heroes. I think having someone who can play a villain be beneficial to Reed, as he often feels closer to a villain than a hero.
My biggest concern with Quinto is age. At 46, he feels a bit older than I would prefer. Not that that should be a problem, but a younger Reed we can see grow into Mr. Fantastic is preferred.
Quinto also isn't typically a leading man. I'm not sure if I can see him leading the MCU in the same way I see Patel.
I think it would be a curveball pick that fans could get behind and end up loving.
1. Jerrod Carmichael
If I had a nickel for every time I casted a comedian known for stand-up over acting as my leading man, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
Jerrod Carmichael is one of my favorite comedians and writers working today. Known for his stand-up specials, the Carmichael show, and smaller roles in The Disaster Artist, Mid90s, and Transformers the Last Knight, Carmichael really came on my radar as an actor and a writer in his amazing movie On the Count of Three.
Also Directed by Carmichael, the film centers around two friends who decide they want to kill themselves after one last day of righting wrongs and tying up loose ends. It's an incredibly bleak, well acted, and at times funny movie, full of sadness and pain.
In the film Carmichael taps into a sadness and alienation I think would be perfect for Reed. In the film, he feels dangerous and alone.
We also known Jerrod can do comedy and likeable, which could eventually translate to a more balanced Reed Richards.
He also has a talent for writing. His stand-up special Rothaniel won him an Emmy in 2022. Imagine what he could do with Fantastic Four Screenplay.
Carmichael will also be starring in Poor Things, a new movie starring Emma Stone which appears to be getting buzz. Clearly he is expanding his acting portfolio, and the MCU is a great place to start.
I think if you want a surprise pick who can act, direct, do comedy, and write, Carmichael feels like the choice that would get people talking. I think he is the type of artist who should be leading big things like the MCU, and would look damn good wearing the 4 on his chest.

The trek stopped early that day, losing two hours of daylight, but staying safe. Hank was angry at himself that it had taken a death to make him come to this decision...
At three in the morning the sky storm had abated and the travelers could leave their tents again without soaking. Markus approached the owners of the Williams wagon to discuss the matter of the once again orphaned Stern brothers.
Markus: "The triplets are Mrs. Stern's legal heirs, who will inherit her land and enterprises in Moonwood Mill. But until we get there, they need a new caregiver."
Tina: "Maybe ask the school teacher? None of us has parenting experience."
Markus: "One has! Not with children that old already, but with kids in general. Mister Williams… I wouldn't ask this of you, if there was another choice, seeing that you lost your daughter only so recently. And I don't want to sell you the triplets as replacement kids… But you looking after them would probably be best for everyone involved."
Tina: "Oh, right! Of course! YOU can adopt the triplets as caregiver, Todd! Remember when the teacher already took you for their dad?"
And that's how I got an AU in which Gavin Reed fosters Connor. I pretend not to grin evilly.

We saw Tom Stoppard's "Leopoldstadt" on Broadway last night. We hadn't rushed to see this, but discounted tickets made it irresistible. At this point I am increasingly reluctant to see or read more on the Shoah, due as much to arrogance that I've already "seen it all" (impossible) as to an aversion with age to borderline torture porn. Previously, the exhibition "Auschwitz: Not Long Ago, Not Far Away" dissolved that reluctance: Our planned one-hour breeze-through became a three-hour endless revelation. But I am sorry to report that, while I am glad we saw it, I'm afraid Stoppard's play was a disappointment, more derivative pastiche than epiphany. I knew it was part biographical, which is also problematic: In the words of Mr. Popescu in Carol Reed's "The Third Man" (its Orson Welles given an almost sneering aside at one point in Stoppard's text): "A dangerous thing, mixing fact and fiction." I was also reminded of Elie Wiesel's criticism of the 1977 television series "Holocaust": Too many different Holocaust horrors happened to this fictional family, straining credulity and providing a boon to revisionists and deniers. Not that fiction is such a bad thing: I recommend highly the fantastic but harrowing and almost forgotten film "Sunshine" (1999) featuring a spectacular cast including Ralph Fiennes, Jennifer Ehle, Rachel Weisz, William Hurt, about three generations of a privileged Hungarian Jewish family. But I felt that the audience would be better off with true accounts, details of which almost seem to have been cherry-picked for inclusion in this play: The sweep of Edmund de Waal's "Hare with Amber Eyes"; the recent TCM documentary on Hollywood composer Max Steiner; another documentary featuring musician Billy Joel and his Viennese half brother about the Nazi theft of their family business; the story of Adele Bloch Bauer, subject of both a famous Klimt painting and the 2015 film "Woman in Gold." Beyond all that, and strictly from a dramaturgic point of view: Too long (two hours ten minutes) to have no intermission (esp. because I believe the script could have been tightened by a quarter hour), and too many characters with too little delineation. Great that the excellent scrim-projected photos throughout the play included a rough-drawn family tree; but at play's end, I was left to scramble mentally who was who. It would have been incredibly effective (if no doubt emotionally manipulative) to have a spotlight shone -- or a briefly held lamp passed, lit, extinguished -- one by one or two by two, on/by the actors portraying the family members whose grim fates are intoned by Rosa ("...Verdun...Auschwitz...Auschwitz...Auschwitz..."). The other issue was enunciation: So many semi-comprehensible posh accents -- not "foreign," all English -- that lines were missed. I had to tell my companion after the fact that both his parents' home towns of Lvov and Czernowitz had been mentioned. And would it have killed Stoppard to translate at least once "le gout juif," said several times at one point and sounding rather silly? There was also an Oskar Schindler crying moment toward the end by the character obviously modeled in Stoppard himself: Can't we please avoid all such lachrymose histrionics in future? Finally, Stoppard has textile magnate Hermann speak of making a suit out of nettles, has the nursemaid tell the Grimm fairy tale of the Six Swan prince brothers (Hans Andersen's version has seven) whose sister makes them shirts out of nettles: I would have liked more connection of those almost throwaway bits of script. Being innumerate and musically untalented, I bow to Stoppard's knowledge of the linked arts of music and mathematics -- although I do know about the Riemann Hypothesis, alleged proofs for which continue to come up in the news but which, as of this writing, are unsubstantiated. That might have been an interesting coda, perhaps a meditation on man's enduring ambition to achieve what may be impossible.

"JANE EYRE" (1970) Review
"JANE EYRE" (1970) Review
I have viewed my share of adaptations of Charlotte Brontë's 1847 novel, "Jane Eyre", over the years. In fact, I doubt I could count the number of adaptations I have seen. And just when I thought I have seen them all, I stumbled across a movie adaptation, which had been released in movie theaters and television over fifty years ago.
Released in 1970 and directed by Delbert Mann, "JANE EYRE" starred Susannah York in the title role and George C. Scott. The movie had been released in theaters in Great Britain, but aired on the NBC channel in the U.S. in 1971. Unlike other adaptations, this "JANE EYRE" began with an orphan named Jane Eyre being shipped to Lowood Institution, a charity school for girls, by her Aunt Reed, who had been emotionally abusive. Lowood proved to be an even more abusive atmosphere for Jane, where she and her fellow students are cruelly treated more like inmates in a prison, instead of students at a girls' school. Jane's new best friend, a student named Helen Burns, has been targeted specifically by one teacher. It is not long before Helen, who suffers from tuberculosis, dies one day after being forced to stand in the rain as punishment. Years pass and Jane becomes a teacher at Lowood. She eventually leaves the school to take up the position of governess to a French girl named Adèle Varens at Thornfield Hall. Adèle turns out to be the ward of Jane's employer and Thornfield's owner, Edward Rochester. Jane and Mr. Rochester eventually falls in love, but a major pitfall threatens to ruin any future happiness.
I noticed that this is the only "Jane Eyre" adaptation I have seen . . . so far, in which the story began with Jane leaving Gateshead, the family seat of the Reed family. In other words, screenwriter Jack Pulman and director Delmar Mann deprived movie and television audiences of Jane's experiences with the Reed family. It seemed as if they were more interested in Jane's experiences at Lowood Institute This movie's version of Lowood seemed more like a horror story, in compare to the other adaptations I have seen. I have noticed other elements missing from the movie's narrative:
*Jane never returned to Gateshead for a final meeting with her Aunt Reed. *Jane never learned that her wealthy uncle John Eyre was looking for her, hence she never inherited his fortune. *Jane immediately revealed her true name to the Rivers family after they gave her refuge.
In fact, the subplots revolving around Jane's families - both the Rivers family and John Eyre - had more or less been erased from the film's narrative. I suspect this was done for the sake of the film's running time and budget. Did these deletions affect the movie's adaptation of Brontë's novel? I do not believe so. But I do believe by removing the subplots regarding the protagonist's families may have increased the story's pacing a bit too fast for my tastes. To the point that time may have gone just a little too fast between Richard Mason's first visit to Thornfield Hall and Jane's departure after the doomed wedding ceremony. If I must be frank, the movie also suffered from the occasional clunky editing by Peter Boita. Hollywood legend John Williams had composed the film's score and earned an Emmy Award in the Outstanding Music Composition for a Series category. To be honest, I have no memories of Williams' score.
I certainly had no problems with Anthony Mendleson's costume designs. I thought he did an excellent job of creating costumes that conveyed the film's characters, but also its setting of the early Victorian era. If I had a problem, and it is a minor one, it was Eileen Warwick's hairstyle for Susannah York, which seemed to reflect the beehive style of the late 1960s and early 1970s, instead of the early 1840s. At least in some scenes. Not only did Mendleson's costumes reflect the film's 1830s to 1840s setting, but so did Alex Vetchinsky's art direction and Martin Atkinson's set decorations. I almost loved how Paul Beeson's photography captured the sweeping landscape of North Yorkshire, the film's location. However, I was not that fond of the photography's slightly darker hue. Perhaps Beeson had been trying to infuse a Gothic atmosphere in the movie. But all he did was slightly annoy me with his darker photography.
Both Susannah York and George C. Scott had earned Emmy nominations for their portrayals of Jane Eyre and Edward Rochester. And I believe they had deserved this acclaim, especially Scott. I thought York did an excellent job of conveying both Jane's reserved manner and the passion that bubbled underneath her cool manner, especially in the famous scene in which Jane confesses her love for Rochester. At least eight American actors have portrayed Edward Rochester in the movie theaters or on television. George C. Scott marked the third American I have seen portrayed the role. To be frank, I thought he gave a superb performance as Jane's moody, yet intelligent employer. Granted, his British accent was not perfect, but I honestly did not care. I was too busy being impressed by his performance. If I had one major complaint about York and Scott, I believe both were too old for their roles. Both leads ended up portraying roles that were at least a decade younger than themselves. And no amount of acting could hide this.
Another cast member who proved to be too old was Ian Bannen, who portrayed St. John Rivers. Do not get me wrong. I thought he was excellent in the role of the domineering, yet severe clergyman who provides refuge and employment to Jane, following her flight from Thornfield Hall. However, Bannen was roughly a decade-and-a-half older than the literary St. John. As for the rest of the cast, I have no problems with their ages or performances. I was especially impressed by Jack Hawkins as the odious Reverend Brocklehurst, Rosalyn Landor as Helen Burns, Rachel Kempson as Mrs. Fairfax, Nyree Dawn Porter as Blanche Ingram, Kenneth Griffin as Ricard Mason, Michele Dotrice as Mary Rivers and Jean Marsh. The latter portrayed the mentally unstable Bertha Mason Rochester a year before she shot to stardom in the ITV series, "UPSTAIRS, DOWNSTAIRS".
I would never regard "JANE EYRE" as one of the better adaptations of Charlotte Brontë's 1847 novel. Jack Pulman's screenplay left out certain scenes that focused on the protagonist's arc with her Reed cousins, her Aunt Reed and her uncle John Eyre. These deletions led to a pacing that struck me as a bit too fast for the movie. And yes, three of the major cast members struck me as being too old for the roles they had portrayed. But Pulman's screenplay, along with Delbert Mann's direction still managed to hit the main beats of Brontë's novel. The movie also featured first-rate performances from the cast . . . especially Emmy nominees Susannah York and George C. Scott. In the end, I was not disappointed.

While Federation officers are receiving an expression of gratitude from the people of Dramia thru their Supreme Prefect, the head of the Dramian security, Commander Demos interrupts to deliver of a warrant to the Captain of the Enterprise to proceed to arrest its Chief Medical Officer, McCoy.
The purpose of the order is imprison Bones to face a trial under an allegation of a commiting a mass murder nineteen years earlier. Then, McCoy headed a mass inoculation program for a Saurian virus on Dramia II. The Dramians blame the Doctor for a plague that wiped out of the entire population of the planet.
Kirk refuses to let McCoy to be judged by the Dramian justice system calling it “a kangaroo court”. Spock advices the Captain to be aware of his emotions. Jim insist in the innocence of Bones. Back at the starship, the First Officer initiates an investigation on the plague of Dramia II. It states that the plague has an unknown origin and is characterized by the change of skin's color, weakening and eventually, the death. Vulcans and some other species developed a natural immunity.
Being to far to communicate with the Starfleet, Captain Kirk took a decision on his own authority: to move to Dramia II to investigate. While they are making a travel with an estimate of four hours, Lieutenant Sulu detects a one-man shuttlecraft approaching them. Kirk assumes it is the ship from the Dramian Commander who try to stop them from seeking the truth. The Captain devised a strategy to stop Demos. He orders Sulu to make the hangar doors open like they left them carelessly open. So, the Commander can sneak aboard the Enterprise like a stowaway. A reason to keep him detained and his ship confiscated.
As they get closed to the second Dramian planet, the starship has to cross an aurora with intense but non-lethal radiation level. Kirk, Spock and Demos are beamed down to the planet's surface. It is desolated, ravaged with most of its buildings destroyed. Demos advice this is a hostile place for outsiders including himself. The only difference there is between the living and the walking dead.
They had an encounter with a Dramian who was not there when the plague stroke the planet. He seems to be mentally affected. The Commander told the Captain and his First Officer that he advice him not to return to the planet. As Demos declares that there is no survivors from the plague, a figure emerges from the shadows. A Dramian whose name is Kol-Tai. He told to the trio that he had the disease and survived. He also told about the color of skin changes and affirmed he was saved by Doctor McCoy and he could not be an assassin.
Kirk, Spock, Demos and Kol-Tai are beamed up to the Enterprise and orders to move fast, at warp six to Dramia before McCoy's trial began. Spock makes sure that the witness is clean, fed, in good health and resting. Suddenly Kol-Tai's skin color change to blue, Kirk orders a quarantine.
The Captain is interested in saving the humble alien's life but the Commander thinks Kirk's interest is in saving his friend's life. Jim rebukes him telling all life is important for the members of the Federation. Demos was surprised, but not for Kirk's words. It is because the Captain's skin is turning blue too. Jim gave the command of the starship to Spock, ordered a general quarantine and to activate the General Order 6. To self-destruct the Enterprise in case everybody aboard dies.
In orbit of planet Dramia, Spock tries to persuade the Supreme Prefect of the importance to release McCoy from jail to help both the ship's crew and the Commander Demos. But his efforts were fruitless. Spock decided to do a jailbreak. He transports to the Doctor's cell and convinces him of the need to be in the Enterprise.
Right at the Sickbay, McCoy realize the cause of the Saurian virus is the aurora. He decided to take a sample from Kol-Tai's blood to isolate and use its antibodies to cure everybody at the Enterprise.
After everyone was healed from the infection, Doctor Leonard McCoy received a honoring ceremony for his significant achievements in the field of interstellar medicine from the Dramians at the planet's surface. The Supreme Prefect and the other Dramian authorities decided to forget about McCoy's prison break and Captain Kirk to forget about Commander Demos' stowaway.
Back at the Transporter Room, Spock arguments about the putting of too much vitamins on the food by the Doctor's orders. McCoy tells Kirk if he gets caught in prison again, never let a Vulcan to release him. Jim has a big laugh.
Fascinating Facts:
Dario Finelli wrote this episode for The Animated Series. Only two writing works are known from Finelli, this and the 1970 film, Scorpio '70.
The story in this episode contradicts the Writers/Directors Guide for The Original Series. In the episode, Doctor Leonard McCoy worked at young age at Dramia II. The Guide clearly describes McCoy began his service when he was 45 years old. See page 12 of the guide:
One of Filmation's top executives lend his voice for the characters of the Dramen Guard and Demos.

Chains of a family [B.W]
Bill Weasley x Grant! Reader
Chapter 1, Chapter 2
Summary: Molly knows about the reader’s relatives and she’s not so sure to put her trust in a girl that had just betrayed her own family
Word count: 1.9K
Warnings: Swearing
A/N: Hi! i’m so happy that you guys liked this thing! thank you so much for your support and, again, if you want to keep reading this let me know. Same note as ever, english not my mother language, so tell me if something’s is wrong.
Chapter 2: Not your family
The next morning turned out to be quieter than you imagined.
You slowly got out of bed and looked at everything around you noticing how quaint Bill's old room was. The ceiling was lined with grainy wallpaper with stacks of photographs of Quidditch players hanging from the reeds that moved from side to side, simulating the playing field; the right side of the room had a huge hole behind the small stool that tried to hide it, and from that hole a small garden gnome was sleeping peacefully with a small piece of cloth on top of his head. You stood up, walking towards the huge window that gave you a beautiful view of the Weasley's garden that at that moment was covered by a thin layer of drizzle that had fallen during the night.
Molly's fruit trees gleamed under the faint rays of the sun and you saw how a doxy from between the leaves poisoned Mrs. Weasley's apples, causing them to fall from the tree branches in a thick black mass with a foul smell coming out of it. You shook your head, excited to witness a very different way to wake up.
Even though several minutes have passed since you woke up, the house continued to remain in a strange silence that made you think that the family had decided to leave the burrow with the intention of buying more supplies or something like that. You knew that Bill wasn’t at home precisely for his obligations within the Order, so you didn’t worry about looking for him around the room, so you decided that a better option was going down to the dining room and know what was happening.
As you went down the spiral staircase, you cursed in a whisper when you forgot to put on your slippers before leaving the bedroom cause the floor was so cold that you slipped a couple of times. Back in the days, when you were still welcome in your parents' house, you had many servants who did all the things for you - putting on your shoes as soon as you woke up was one of those things - but now that your life had changed so much, you assumed that you would have to adapt and start taking care of your own needs.
Your curious eyes roamed the walls covered in family photos that caused a big warmth in your chest. In each of those photographs, all of Molly's children appeared along with their father, smiling for the camera and sending effusive greetings. A pic was hanging at the fireplace were Molly and Arthur were carrying a small white bundle crying his lungs out. You assumed it was Bill as his parents seemed too young back then and even as a small baby, you could recognize those tantrum features anywhere.
A giggle escaped your lips when you noticed a funny sequence from that same photo in which, even with Bill crying in his mother's arms, his father tried to carry him for a moment to calm him down, however the baby's cries didn’t stop. The baby was so annoyed that he ended throwing up the milk ration that he must have had before the photo session on his father's neat shirt.
You laughed because you knew that William's impertinence was something he had carried with him for several years now.
"Bill hates those photos." You jumped in your place scared to see Molly standing behind you. Your cheeks turned red “He says that it’s embarassing but i think that’s nonsense. He was an adorable baby”
"he was," you answered, looking anywhere but into Molly's shrewd eyes. "but I guess displaying them in the fireplace isn’t the right thing to do."
“Is it not?
"No, they should be at the front door where everyone can see them”
Molly giggled as you watched the sequence of photos over and over again. A silence settled between you, but surprisingly it was not an awkward silence, but one that was allowing you to create a bond that neither of you expected. Mrs. Weaslsey brought up a rag, wiping it around the corners of the photo from the dust.
"Arthur and I had to save up for months to take those pictures," she mentioned wistfully, "we just had Bill and it seemed like a good idea to welcome him into our family with a gesture like that. Arthur was new in the ministry and wasn't earning too much, but we had that quirk and decided we could afford to skip certain things to pay for the pictures. It cost us ten galleons and it still took us four months to gather them”
“Oh” You didn't know what to say, but you just kept looking at the photograph feeling a bit uncomfortable. You never had those problems at home because your family was insanelly rich thanks to the inheritance in life that your grandfather Tim had left to his son and later to his grandchildren. Even the descendants of your grandfather's servants came to work in your house, reason enough for you and your siblings to grow up with no sense of responsibility other than your own wishes. Molly sighed remembering those times when life seemed to be easier.
"So when Bill asked me to remove it from the fireplace, I refused. He doesn't know how hard it was to raise that money, but I think he has nothing to be ashamed of, he was too adorable!
"I don't doubt it for a second, Mrs. Weasley."
"You can call me Molly," she said, walking back to the kitchen where you continued watching the way the pans moved back and forth preparing breakfast. You were not very good at cooking - in fact, you had never cooked before- however, that didn’t stop you from offering your help. So you took a pan, placed it on the stove, and decided that you would find a way to make a good mountain of strawberry-filled pancakes just like your dear nanny did. Molly observed you carefully. "I think that now that you are living with us it is appropriate to have a more cordial treatment. My son told me a lot about you”
“Just the good things, i hope”
“Kind of” You stopped mixing ingredients to look at her carefully” He told us a bunch of marvelous things about you and how you two met. Actually, what worries me the most is what he didn’t tell us”
And there was the recrimination you were waiting for. You were aware that it had to arrive sooner or later, however, you would have been grateful that it did it when Bill were by your side to give you the opportunity to defend yourself properly. You cleared your throat uncomfortably, knowing that what Molly needed to hear from your own lips was which family you came from. You continued your task with the pancakes, turning out as bad as you expected.
"I'm sorry it turned out this way, Mrs. Weasley."
"Molly," he corrected.
"Molly" you smiled slowly "But believe me when I tell you that it was me who asked William not to mention anything about my last name or where I come from. I know that in this case, with the war above our heads, it is necessary to be certain of the people who enter your family and I apologize for that, it's just ... Bill is very important to me” Molly's eyes narrowed “Since we met ... I have found a home in him and well, all that feels when someone is in love. "Mrs. Weasley shook her head, understanding the feeling." I have experienced the rejection before. When people know that Tom Riddle is my family ... they run away in fear, curse my family and even walk away from us, as if sharing a blood bond makes us as evil as he is.
“And it’s not like that?” Molly asked with a hand on her neck. She didn’t want to be like the others and judge you without knowing the full story, just as she had promised Bill the night before that she would, but it was so difficult not to remember the death of his brothers by Voldemort’s hands and to pretend nothing had happened in the past. You sighed because the eggs you cracked on the bowl got mixed with their own shell “ I've heard of the Grants before, they're all Death Eaters, including your siblings!”
“It is difficult to have to choose a side when you don’t have your own convictions”
"And you have it?"
You looked at Molly in pain. Of course you expected those reactions from Bill's mother, she was within her right to be upset that her oldest son never told her that he was in a relationship with a girl who seemed to have the most fucking powerful and evil wizard in the world as a great-uncle. No, Molly wasn't mad, she was deadly angry, she felt like she was bursting!
Her hands became fists and without knowing how, you found yourself between the wall and Molly's big arms from one second to the other. The pancake batter was forgotten, as was the woman's promise to treat her son's girlfriend in a good way.
"How is it possible ..." Molly questioned in an agitated voice, pressing your arms against the wall, "... that a single deer leaves the nature of its own herd?" How can you ensure that one rotten apple even in a gold container doesn’t rot the others?”Your breath caught at the questions of the woman in front of you. Once again, you were aware that your presence wouldn’t be good news to them, but at least you hoped they understood your motives before judging you “Explain to me, (Y/ N) Grant, when have you seen a pig away from his equals?”
Your words caught in your throat at Molly's fierce question. Bill had talked a lot about the temper of his mother. Even if she could be really grumpy at times, she was in general a very sweet, pleasant and maternal woman with everyone; however, you didn’t fit into that generality because it seemed that the woman was determined to kill you with her own hands.
"If my presence bothers you so much, then you shouldn't have let Bill and I to stay here."
“He's my son! All I want for him is to be happy, and that's why I don't understand what he managed to see in you”
"Maybe the same thing you saw in your husband." Molly's lips twitched in anger, but you didn't stop. You hoped that she would at least understand what your words meant, because that would make it easier for both of you to try at least get along better, even if Molly seemed not to want to do it under any circumstances. How is it that this haughty little girl dared to compare herself with her dear and wonderful husband? "I'm sorry, but I don't think this conversation is going to take us anywhere."
"If someone betrays his own family ..." Molly stopped you before you walked out the front door. The others got down the stairs, seeing the scandal formed in the kitchen “The rest of us can't expect too much, can we?
Your eyes blured.

***FURTHER UPDATES***
So sit-com wise, it seems they were referencing Malcolm in the Middle as the twins broke the fourth wall and talked to the audience, like Malcolm did
However, the theme song has told the viewer to stop questioning the reality of Westview - which could be a little reference to Mystery Science Theatre 3000? - When Pietro first shows up in the title sequence, along with his name title card, the lyrics say “Though there may be no way of knowing who’s come to play” - Istg, I do not trust Pietro
Vision says to Wanda that he had to wear his Halloween costume because there were no other clothes in his closet, Wanda is trying to move the plot along and forcing Vision to play along
Evan Peters’ ‘Mom’ tattoo is shown, which is a tattoo he actually has in real life ! But could this stand for ‘Multiverse of Madness’ or some other red herring?
Pietro mentions to Wanda that if he had found ‘Shangri-La’ he wouldn’t want to leave either - Shangri-La is a real place on Earth-616 that was founded by a version of Vision
Tommy refers to Pietro’s speed as ‘kickass’ and then Wanda repeats that, saying ‘kickass’ again - Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Evan Peters (both versions of QuickSilver) were in Kick-Ass together
The ad for this episode was freaky af - the character on the beach who starved and decomposed could be a little nod to Indiana Jones, where a Nazi’s face melts in - and it could also be reference to Wanda being all alone and struggling to process her grief. The shark in the ad could also be Nightmare or Mephisto or just someone more powerful than Wanda offering her a new beginning with Vision or trapped her in some way - and is feeding off her magic? The flavour of the yoghurt is strawberry flavoured and strawberry’s are red on the outside and pink-ish on the inside - much like Wanda’s og costume and her magic being red 👀
Pietro and Wanda talk about their Sokovian accents at a point in the episode and how neither have them anymore. Wanda’s, as we know, has disappeared over the course of the MCU movies and Pietro’s just doesn’t exist - another nice little nod to Peter Maximoff from the fox X-Men films? Also, Pietro states that “I’m just trying to do my part, okay? Come to town unexpectedly, create tension with the brother-in-law, stir up trouble with the Rugrats (a 90’s cartoon 👀) and ultimately give you grief.” - in reference to the grief part, could Pietro be killed off again? Stir up trouble with the rugrats, being possible shards of the demon Mephisto’s soul, could this be Mephisto trying to influence them on a deeper level? It’s also many many common sitcom clichès
Pietro talks about how “I got shot like a chump on the street for no reason at all” - nice little nod to how Pietro was killed off unnecessarily and how we as a fandom still talk about how regular bullets shouldn’t have killed him
Herb is dressed as Frankenstein’s monster - Dr. Frankenstein created his monster and soon lost control over him, and he was created using electricity or lightning - much like Vision was created and brought to life by Thor using Mjolnïr to bring lightning down to his incubator thingy majig. Could this also be a reference to either Wanda slowly losing control over Westview or someone else controlling Wanda/controlling the citizens of Westview - we saw in episode 3 that Agnes told Herb to be quiet as it seemed he was about to spill the beans 👀
Vision goes towards Ellis avenue and is at a ‘crossroads’ of sorts - in folklore, crossroads are often used to speak to or summon the devil and are also used when an important character is making a decision that could change everything. He spots some citizens repeating certain actions and/or just standing completely still, could these be npc’s (non playable characters)? And now that the barrier of the Hex has spread, will those citizens now start to move? 👀 Also I know that all stop signs look like it, but the stop sign is also a red hexagon 🛑
Darcy scrolls through Hayward’s computer files and goes past a file called “Project C4-113” - it could reference Avengers Issue #113 in which Wanda and Vision both appear on the cover and she says she’s going to make the world pay for Vision’s death. There’s also another file called “Project M5-247” which could be a nod to Avengers Issue #247, which shows the origin of the Eternals and in the same vein, Scarlet Witch and Vision trying to help Captain Marvel. And when Darcy emails Hayward’s cataract plans, you can see the names of “James Alexander and James Gadd” - James Alexander is a visual effects producer on Wandavision and James Gadd works on post production at Marvel
Also: Agnes pulls as Mrs Hart and repeats the same phrase over and over again
After Wanda blasts Pietro, you can see on a fake grave stone the name of “Janell Sammelman”, Janell is a first assistant director on Wandavision
When Wanda moves Westview to save Vision, she turns S.W.O.R.D and it’s agents into clowns + a circus - I just love that the agents turned into clowns 😂 but there is a nice little plot line in the comics where Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver and Hawkeye join the circus - and this COULD be stretch, but earlier in the episode there is the number #22 which could be Avengers Issue #22, which is the Issue that they join the circus
As soon as Vision was brought back into Westview, he was healed - which means if he was to exit again, he probably wouldn’t survive 😭
The episode title is ‘All-New Halloween Spooktackular!” - which “All-New” is a designation that is often used on covers for comic books. And the first issue of the second The Vision and the Scarlet Witch series takes place on Halloween night - but the events in this comics didn’t influence this episode’s plot
Pietro points out that he has the “XY chromosome” - X for X-Men? Plus there’s the X gene 😂
He mentions “Uncle Peter to the rescue” - Peter is the name of Quicksilver from the Fox X-Men Franchise
Pietro and Tommy quote the movie Top Gun (1986) by saying “I fell the need, the need for speed”
Wanda almost seems hesitant to trust this version of Pietro (rightfully so, in my opinion) and is wary of him being around Tommy and Billy
Pietro says some very Mephisto/Nightmare-like things this episode - “Unleash hell, demon spawn!”, “The kids need a father figure”, “Damnit, if Westview isn’t charming as Hell...” - And if Pietro isn’t Mephisto/Nightmare, it HAS to be Agnes or her other half Ralph and Pietro is probably Ralph tbh...or could Pietro just be a scapegoat and Hayward is Ralph? 👀
The theatre in town, which is playing the Incredibles and The Parent Trap, is called the Coronet. There’s a classic poem called “The Coronet” written by Andrew MARVELL (Marvell, is also the true name of the first incarnation of Captain Marvel in the comics) and is about a guy who knows that the sins of mankind led to the death of Christ. He attempts to create a new crown for Christ’s head in an attempt to atone, but finds that there is sin in the crown as well, as the devil is within the crown and therefore he may achieve glory and success with his new creation 👀
Hayward’s confidential project “Cataract” included experimenting on Vision’s body, as was revealed by Darcy (my wife 💙 and Monica is also my wife 💚 and so is Wanda 💛, I just love women, you know? 😂). A cataract is a cloudy area in the lens of the eye that leads to a decrease in vision - is Hayward trying to weaponise Vision? Or maybe even trying to bring Ultron back? Or do what Tony wanted to do in the first place, and make a suit of armour that’s around the world? Either way, it’s for nefarious purposes
Who is Monica’s guy? Jimmy and Monica are off to meet him - could it be Reed Richards (Mr Fantastic)? Or could it be Victor Von Doom (Dr Doom)? Could it be Hank McCoy (Beast)? Or even Adam Brashear (Blue Marvel)? Or if it is a woman, could it be the Skrull daughter of Talos that Monica befriended at the end of Captain Marvel? Could it be Abigail Brand (A major character in recent S.W.O.R.D comics and an Alpha Flight Member)? Or even Toni Ho (Iron Patriot, and could she be introduced to help lay the ground work for my other queen, Riri Williams/Iron Heart?)? Or could it even be Sue Storm (Invisible Woman)?
In the background of the episode we see a number of children and adults dressed up as many different characters, which includes: Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat, Jason Voorhees, with a sweater striped like Freddy Krueger’s and even a kid that looks dressed in an off-brand Charizard costume 😂 Pokèmon has always been popular, but saw an increase during the 90’s
Pietro and the kids are drinking “Kane Cola” which could be a reference to the 90’s drinks “Jolt Cola” or even “Surge” - it could also, with all the X-Men Easter eggs, be a reference to Garrison Kane, who was a member of Cable’s mercenary team “Six Pack” and is sometimes also known as ‘Weapon X’
The kid that Wanda mentions having a “skin thing” in the orphanage - could that be a reference to her Brotherhood of Evil Mutants co-worker Toad? Or maybe even Mystique? Maybe Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler)?
One of the houses has a sign up that says ‘Macabre Mansion’ - another possible reference to House of M?
During a flashback, it’s shown that the twins are playing Dance Dance Revolution, which came out in 1999. Also this might be a stretch, but the boys have a dog plushie in their room the right - which is coloured red and black - could this be a reference to Dogpool? 😂
I love this show 🤣💙

what were other friends that Lafayette made during his time in the continental army (others than hamilton and laurens)?
and also, did he pick up some/many fights with others ('cause of diferent opinions or smth) while he was in america? thank youu
Hello Anon,
sorry that it took me so long to answer you, I somewhat misplaced my draft and things went downhill from there. Thank you for our great question though. La Fayette made many other friends beside Laurens, Hamilton, Jefferson and Washington, but many of them are often overlocked. (I copied parts of a previous post that also dealt with La Fayette’s friends, so please be not surprised if some passages may sound familiar.)
La Fayette was the sort of person who made friends easily. He was not a grumpy person, being on good terms with somebody was his default mood so to speak. Some of the lesser-known friendships that he struck up during his time in America were with James McHenry, James Monroe, Henry Laurens, Nathanael Greene and Baron von Steuben for example.
James McHenry first met La Fayette when they both were members in George Washington staff. McHenry later transferred to La Fayette’s staff (March of 1781) and was one of his most trusted aide-de-camps. He often was chosen as La Fayette’s “liaison-officer”. I have three excerpts from letters by La Fayette, detailing his relationship to McHenry. The first one was written by La Fayette to McHenry on February 15, 1781, a few months before McHenry joined his staff:
My tender friendship and affectionate Regard for You, will Not lengthen this letter with Assurances from My Heart While the Heart itself must Be known to You. I intend to write You Again in a few days and with Every Sentiment of Attachement and Esteem Have the Honor to be Yours
Lafayette
The second letter was addressed to General Greene on August 12, 1781, concerning a potential transfer McHenry’s into Greene’s staff.
McHenry is So well Acquainted with My Sentiments for Him that He knows My attachement is independant of whatever Steps He Might take on the occasion. He knows I am not of a temper that finds faults with the Measures of My friends, and that I will ever feel an obligation to the Man who obliges General Greene.
The last letter was written to McHenry on December 26, 1783. McHenry at this point had already retired from the army.
As an ardent lover of America I am glad to Hear of the influence You are said to Have in Congress. As Your most affectionate friend I shall Be glad whenever You Have an opportunity to display Your abilities. If Congress do not send me Any Commands, I shall Most Certainly embark in the spring. If they Have Commands for me, I would Be thrice Happy to Receive You along with them, and to Make with you french and European travels. You ought to Make them charge you with some political commission to Courts in Europe, and I would like going as a volonteer with you. [Manuscript torn; part a line missing] Your family and our friends. Most affectionately I am for [manuscript torn; several words missing].
Lafayette
I showed you this many letters for several reasons. First, McHenry deserves more attention if you ask me. Second, they show not only their emotional relationship but also their professional relationship and illustrate how convinced La Fayette was by McHenry’s merits - and lastly, I like them all and could not decide. :-) Years later, during La Fayette’s imprisonment, McHenry was among the people who tried to help him gain his freedom.
On to James Monroe. Monroe was, just like Hamilton, close in age to La Fayette (actually, La Fayette was older then Monroe by several months) and spoke French. They both moved in the same social circles during the Revolution and had some common friends. It was also Monroe, who, with the backing of Congress, invited La Fayette to visit America once more in 1824/1825. La Fayette received the rights to some land during this visited and later gifted some of this land to Monroe so that Monroe could start paying off his mounting debts. Here is what La Fayette wrote to Monroe on December 19, 1784:
My dear Sir
I Have Received your letter to mr jefferson, and shall very Carefully deliver it. Our old friend Gibbs will give you a Bundle of papers for McHenry which I Beg you will keep for Him untill He Comes to Trenton. To morrow morning, My dear Sir, I set out for Europe, and Before I go, it is pleasing for me once more to assure you of the value I Have By Your friendship, and of the affection and regard I Have the Honor to Be With My dear Sir Yours
Lafayette
(I may or may not have chosen this letter because McHenry also makes an appearance.)
Another friend was Henry Laurens. Laurens was the father of John Laurens and the president of the Continental Congress for some time. He and La Fayette first started corresponding when La Fayette was recovering from his gunshot wound. He wrote Laurens on December, 1777:
I am indeed very importune to wraÏt so long a letter. You'l find me very troublesome, and I make haste to put an end to it by the short assurance of the eternal friendship I am with - Dear Sir Your most obedient servant
(La Fayette had a moment of self-realisation right here.)
Another very dear and very close friend of La Fayette’s was Nathanael Greene. There is a letter from La Fayette to Greene from November 10, 1780 that perfectly captures his feelings. La Fayette wrote:
My dear friend (…)For My friends, My dear Sir, I have No different feelings from those which I experience for Myself. I therefore feel for you, as I would do on My own account was I the Commander of the Southern Army. (…) But Whatever Might be hereafter the Case, Whatever Bad chance (and in our profession chance is Some thing) a Malignant fortune Might throw in Your Way, Be Certain, My dear Sir, that My friendship as well as My esteem for you are founded upon Such a Bazis As Cannot be shak' d By Any Run of Good or ill luck which May subject You to the praise or to the Blame of Common opinions. In all Cases, My Good friend, I am heartly willing to have My fate united to Yours, and By this junction of Stars to have My little share in Any thing Good or Bad that May happen to the troops Under your Command. I Beg you will present My Best Compliments to Your family and Most affectionately have the honor to be Yours forever
Lafayette
In the same letter to Greene, La Fayette also described his feeling for Henry Lee, a member of the prominent Lee family and someone La Fayette met through the army. He wrote Greene:
As I am Sure that My friend Lee will apply for being attach'd to me, I Beg leave to Support the Motion of that officer whom I Love, and on whom I Greatly Confide Both for Advice and execution.
The Baron von Steuben (what a legend) was also counted among La Fayette’s friend. The two of them spend a lot of time together during the Campaign in Virginia. La Fayette wrote to von Steuben on July 16, 1780:
I received, my dear baron, the letter you had the kindness to write me, and I am infinitely appreciative of the token of friendship you give me. (…) The confidence I have always had in your friendship and the new proof of it that you have just so graciously given me, my dear baron, assure me that you will be willing to make efforts and use your influence and authority to get first-rate men. (…) In a word, my dear baron, I put my interests in your hands and, counting on your friendship, I am utterly at ease. (…)I hope I do not need to assure you of my tender affection
This list is by no means exclusively but I think these were the most important friendships for La Fayette. Others friend that could be mentioned was Joseph Reed, William Heath and William Carmichael … now on to the “picking fights part”. No, La Fayette was nobody to pick fights. That was simply not his style. There were disagreements of course, mostly over military and army matters, but these could either be dissolved or La Fayette acknowledged that he was for the most part the more junior and inexperienced person in the disagreement. He was however somebody who was not afraid of letting his opinion be known.
There are for example Generals Gates and Conway, two officers who were involved in what was called the “Conway-Cabal”. There is a bit of a discussion nowadays about the true extent and nature of the “Conway-Cabal” but for people back then, for people like La Fayette, it was a very serious affair. Previously he had been on quite friendly terms with both Generals, even trying to form a deeper friendship with Gates, but after the “Cabal”, their relationships soured. La Fayette wrote the following about Conway in a letter to Henry Laurens on January 26, 1778:
Amongs All the men who could be sent under me Mr. Connway is the most disagreable to me and the most prejudiciable to the cause. I Confess you that love and friendship have alwals been my duties. This last sentiment I feel to the most perfect degree for General Washington. How can I support the society of a man who has spocken of my friend in the most insolent and abusive terms, who has done, and does every day all his power to ruin him, who tries to spend the fire in every part of the army and the country?
La Fayette also manged to almost get into a duel while in America - but not with an American but an Englishman. The British had sent a peace commission to America to probe the possibility of a peace treaty. One of the people they send, Lord Carlisle, insulted France in an open document. La Fayette felt offended on behalf of France and challenged Carlisle to a duel in late September of 1778 - Carlisle refused. The Marquis noted of the event in his memoirs:
In a public letter, signed Carlisle, the French nation was taxed with a perfidy too universally acknowledged to require any new proof. With the effervescence of youth and patriotism, M. de Lafayette seized this opportunity of opposing the commission; and the first impulse of M. d'Estaing was to approve of his conduct. A haughty challenge was sent from head - quarters to Lord Carlisle: the answer was an ill - explained refusal, and the impetuosity of M. de Lafayette was attended with a good result, whilst the prudence of the president was ridiculed in every public paper.
Roughly two decades later he wrote in his mauskripts:
Lord Carlisle refused, -- and he was right.
I hope that I could answer your question and I hope that you have/had a fantastic day!

The James Joyce Murder, chapter 1
"Kate," Reed said, disentangling his long legs from the small car, "what on earth are you doing here? If you had decided to embrace the rural life, you might, in decency, have let me know. It's a great shock to return from Europe and find you established on some deserted hilltop in the Berkshires. What is the matter with that cow?"
Before Kate could answer, a red cat tore around the corner of the house with a brown dog in hot pursuit. "More of the local fauna," Kate said, in what she hoped were conciliatory tones. "Come inside and tell me all about the News Scotland Yard. The cow is bellowing for her calf."
"Has she lost it?"
"It was taken away from her; she'll forget it in a day or two. How was England?"
——————————
Reed was proceeding toward the fireplace in a decorous manner when, from a nearby stairway he had not noticed, there burst as though catapulted into their midst a smallish boy. Reed pondered the possibilities of catapulting him back, and reluctantly dismissed them.
——————————
.... "O.K., I'll get William," the boy returned, departing with an alacrity that suggested an unwillingness to dwell upon the subject of today's essay.
[He hasn't done his essay. – Anon.]
——————————
"... For God's sake, sit down and explain. I return from only six months in England to find you transformed, transported and transfigured."
"You just added the last one to make the series come out right."
"I certainly never expected to see you living in the same house with a small boy. What ages are Emmett and William?" Reed asked, as though suddenly struck with the awful thought that Kate had the undertaken the housing of small boys in large numbers.
"In their middle or late twenties, I suppose. William is tutoring Leo, he of the various deaths, and Emmett is going over some papers for me for me. The cat belongs to Emmett, and the dog belongs to the gardener, whose name is not James Joyce but Mr. Pasquale. The cow belongs to the farmer down the road who uses our land. Leo is my nephew. Cheers."
——————————
"Kate," interrupted a young man from the doorway. "If that woman is permitted entrance into this house, I shall have to tender my resignation. Reluctantly, to be sure, since the collection is a fascinating one. There's a letter – But I cannot have that woman hanging over me as though I were a pie and some extravagantly exciting news about you were the plum that she was in hopes of pulling forth."
"Emmett, you must realize that country people are incurably curious, like cats. It's only urbanites who can ignore their neighbors. Tell Mrs, Bradford Leo is my illegitimate child, that I murdered his father, and that I'm setting up a polyandrous colony here in the hope of starting a new religion. That ought to keep her quiet for a while."
"The only thing that would keep that woman quiet is a bullet in the brain, and even then I think her lips would ta go on moving out of share force of habit."
——————————
[After having lunch and telling Reed about she came to stay temporarily in the house, breaching the subject of Kate having custody of Leo]
"Kate," Reid said, "you are the most maddening woman I have ever met. I can't imagine, for example, why I, would who could be happily resting in an air conditioned apartment in New York, should be walking along a country road with you, being devoured by mosquitoes and uncomfortably aware, from the tickling in my nose, that I am about to begin a prolonged attack of hay fever. .... How did you end up with Leo, for God's holy sake?"
"He ran away and came to me. It became quite clear that everyone was trying so hard to understand him that he belonged to be in the company of someone who didn't understand him and wouldn't even try. I sent him back home, of course, but I promised he might spend the summer with me. My brother, with the mulishness that marks all simple-minded people, was outraged that Leo would have run away to me. Anyhow, that's how the 'boarding house' came so overwhelmingly into existence."
okay yeah this looks entertaining as fuck

“Pope’s Day” according to the Massachusetts Gazette 1765
The following account of Pope's Day in 1765 was published in the November 7, 1765 Massachusetts Gazette. The author expressed a surprise at how orderly the day had gone, as many people were often seriously injured or even killed during these celebrations (or riots).
"Tuesday last being the Anniversary of the Commemoration of the happy Deliverance of the English Nation from the Popish Plot, commonly called The Powder Plot, the Guns at Castle William and at the Batteries in Town were fired at one o’clock; as also on board the Men of War in the Harbour.
It has long been the Custom in this Town on the Fifth of November for Numbers of Persons to exhibit on Stages some Pageantry, denoting their Abhorrence of POPERY and the horrid Plot which was to have been executed on that Day in the Year 1605; these Shews of late Years has been continued in the Evening, and we have often seen the bad Effects attending them at such a time; the Servants and Negroes would disguise themselves, and being armed with clubs would engage each other with great Violence, whereby many came off badly wounded; in short they carried it to such Lengths that two Parties were created in the Town, under the Apellation of North-End and South-End: But the Disorders that had been committed from Time to Time induced several Gentlemen to try a Reconciliation between the two Parties; accordingly the Chiefs met on the First of this Instant, and conducted that Affair in a very orderly Manner; in the Evening the Commander of the South entered into a Treaty with the Commander of the North, and after making several Overtures they reciprocally engaged on a UNION, and the former Distinctions to subside; at the same Time the Chiefs with their Assistants engaged upon their Honor no Mischiefs should arise by their Means, and that they would prevent and Disorders, on the 4th.
When the Day arrived the Morning was all Quietness, about Noon the Pageantry, representing the Pope, Devil, and several other Effigies signifying Tyranny, Oppression, Slavery, were brought on Stages from the North and South, and met in King [State] Street, where the Union was established in a very ceremonial Manner, and having given three Huzzas, they interchanged Ground, the South marched to the North, and the North to the South, parading thro' the Streets until they again met near the Court House: The whole then proceeded to the Tree of Liberty, under the Shadow of which they refreshed themselves for a while, and then retreated to the Northward, agreeable to their Plan; – they reached Copp's Hill before 6 o’clock, where they halted, and having enkindled a Fire, the whole Pageantry was committed to the Flames and consumed: This being finished every person was requested to retire to their respective Homes – It must be noticed to the Honor of all those concerned in this business that every thing was conducted in a most regular manner, and such Order observed as could hardly be expected among a concourse of several thousand people – all seemed to be joined, agreeable to their principal Motto Levely Unity The Leaders, Mr. McIntoth form the South, and Mr. Swift from the North, appeared in Military Habits, with small canes resting on their left arms, having music in Front and Flank; their assistants appeared also distinguished with small reeds, then the respective Corps followed, among whom were a great Number of Persons in Rank: These with the Spectators filled the Streets; not a Club was seen among the whole, nor was any Negro allowed to approach near the Stages; - after the Conflagration the Populace retired, and the Town remained the whole Night in better Order than it had ever been on this Occasion. – Many Gentlemen feeing the Affair so well conducted, contributed to make up a handsome Purse to entertain those that carried it on, –
This Union, and one other more extensive, may be look'd upon as the (perhaps the only) happy Effects arising form the S-p A-t."

Throwing my theories on who the Aerospace engineer is now incase any of them end up being right:
- Riri Williams/Ironheart, she's already been cast, and it could be Marvel's way of having her be introduced to audiences before her series.
- Reed Richards/Mr Fantastic, the ff have been massively anticipated for months, and it could be a tease for the film
- Someone Skrull, specifically Talos' daughter that Monica befriended, that maybe leads into the rumoured Hulkling cameo and the Secret Invasion series
