Hi there, I love all of the mob psycho aus that you're doing! For your split reigen au, I was wondering how they got split? By a cursed item or a spirit with a grudge? This is a fun concept and your art is so cute!

I got this ask in my inbox a while ago but only yesterday did I figure out what could have done the splitting, so I cooked up a short animatic because it was the best way I could convey it (there’s no audio, but I gave it some dialogue that’s not exact to how it would have been if it were a canon scene, but y’know we like to be a little silly here)

OVERWORKED

a jujutsu kaisen & mob psycho 100 crossover

summary: satoru gojo visits seasoning city to look into the reports of strange cursed activity and gets an audience with the world's greatest psychic, reigen arataka.

a/n: i don’t usually post general works or character & character fics on tumblr, but hey, there’s a first time for everything.

Seasoning City was never a place that Satoru thought he would find himself in, but there he was; keen to investigate some sort of rumoured unusual cursed activity reported within the area.

Sometimes he’d go and investigate these claims by himself, although mostly it was just to get the higher ups off of his back and especially so that his students (that the responsibility would otherwise be handed to) wouldn’t unknowingly waltz into potential danger.

Besides, Seasoning City has been a jujutsu curiosity for a while now, with all sorts of strange ongoing issues within the vicinity and an investigation was due.

Upon arriving at the site in question, Satoru strolled into an abandoned high rise office building and scoped the whole area out. He could pick up on the trace activity or something, but he wasn’t quite sure what exactly. With curious eyes, he scanned the area and inspected as much as he could before he heard the door crash open, practically swinging off the hinges.

Turning back, he was interrupted in the process by a man with an ill-fitting suit and fiery orange hair. A younger boy dressed in regular school uniform seemed to tag along beside him and although the third presence slipped away just in time to avoid being seen, he could have sworn that he spotted some sort of stink cloud shaped (and coloured) shikigami wafting nearby.

“Worry not, it is I, the great psychic—Reigen Arataka!” the man announced before striking a victorious pose.

Getting absolutely zero read on this guy’s technique and doubting that he even had one to begin with, Satoru couldn’t help but wearily sigh at the company he found himself in.

“A psychic? Oh boy,” Satoru mumbled to himself before adopting a louder volume, “you can stand aside, I’ll take it from here.”

“Pardon me,” Reigen interrupted while rolling his eyes, taking wide footsteps as he confidently strolled over to the white haired man, “you’re the one who should be excused, for I will be the one to solve this haunting.”

“You don’t look like someone who knows jujutsu,” Satoru mused, taking notes of his lack of… everything. The man had zero cursed energy and no technique, therefore he likely didn’t even know what he was looking for.

“Ju-what now?” Reigen blinked while somehow still maintaining that smug expression on his face.

The mop haired boy beside him attempted to answer although his voice was rather quiet, “It’s a type of—“

Promptly interrupting the teen however, Reigen continued to talk, “Watch closely Mob. I’ll show you what a real master looks like.”

Satoru couldn’t help but twitch his eye below his blindfold, astounded by the strange so-called psychic’s audacity. With an almost exasperated gaze, he watched as the man moved around erratically and punched the air, kicking nothing with determined, miscalculated strikes.

In the meanwhile, the actual malevolent cursed spirit showed up right behind him. It appeared to take on the spirit of a tired salaryman, echoing a mantra of jarring words that were just barely coherent through its shrill cry.

“Overtime~! Time is money~! Work work work~!”

While Reigen continued to remain oblivious and make a spectacle of himself, Mob stepped forward and moved his hands to channel his energy, making the whole floor rumble as he focused on the task at hand.

Such display of power didn’t go unnoticed by Satoru, who watched the boy work with what he was very certain was in fact cursed and energy before funnelling it towards the cursed spirit, making quick work of it and weakening it significantly.

Impressed, Satoru then finished off the spirit with his own hands and exchanged a glance with the boy before sighing wearily, noticing that the fraud was still going at it and swatting away at nothingness.

“Hey, you can stop now,” he told Reigen in a resigned manner.

“Yes, we took care of it,” Mob added on.

Stopping mid swing, Reigen took a deep breath before responding, “…It’s gone?”

Nodding, Satoru folded his arms and couldn’t help but softly laugh at the whole situation. A psychic? He knew that there were frauds who had a vague understanding of the world around him, but this guy was something else.

“That’s right,” Satoru confirmed before considering a point, “you know, this kid has quite a lot of talent actu—“

Immediately cutting him off, Reigen burst forward with a victorious cheer, “—aha! You see? The spirit didn’t stand a chance against my special technique: kneading air!”

“Come again?” Satoru blinked. ‘Special technique?’ Did he mean cursed technique or did he truly think that what he did was some sort of attack? The man’s unwavering confidence almost tortured Satoru’s own mind.

“By pushing the air around with my movements, I was able to direct my student’s psychic energy into defeating the spirit,” Reigen began to explain, “and of course my star pupil managed to finish it off.”

“Actually he finished the spirit off,” Mob replied, pointing his figure towards the other man.

“Yeah?” Reigen flicked a glance towards his direction. “Not bad, blindfold. I can sense a lot of potential in you. A little bit amateurish, but not bad. Not bad at all.”

Satoru couldn’t help but just stare at Reigen, feeling more and more worn out by the second. Before he could even say anything in response, Reigen quickly reached into his pocket and pulled out a small business card and scribbled something on it with a pen that he had otherwise materialised out of nowhere.

Handing it over to Satoru, he dramatically extended his arm. “Here you go, bud. An autograph from the greatest psychic alive. Don’t say I never did anything for ya.”

Taking the card, he glanced at the hastily scribbled out signature. He tried to form a response as he mulled the whole situation over, but was quite literally left speechless.

After a moment, he turned over to Mob who didn’t offer a single word of explanation—just standing by the strange man’s side with a blank look on his face—as if everything was perfectly fine and normal.

“Is he always like this…?” Satoru finally asked with an almost wary tone.

Mob nodded, “Yes, he’s my boss.”

Satoru nervously laughed at that response. Boss? This kid who had an almost masterful grasp on cursed energy was the supposed employee of this conman?

That was concerning to say the least.

And as he watched the two exit the building, Satoru couldn’t bury that nagging worry that there might have been more unassuming people like Mob out there being mentored by the likes of Reigen.

Walking away himself, he glanced behind him one more time, watching the pair walk in the opposite direction.

Satoru couldn’t help but shake his head, feeling amused but also intrigued at the whole situation he just witnessed.

Maybe he would keep a personal eye on this city but especially on Mob.

Just in case.

🍑 If you could make a connection between your favorite character and another work you care about (whether a crossover/fusion or a wonderfully “pretentious” literary reference) what would it be? How would it work?

Ohhhh. Hmm…..gosh I need to think. My favorite character right now is Shigeo. I’m also not very well read haha

I think….there is a rather large overlap between Shigeo and Yugi from Yugioh (my first fav anime). Both soft spoken main characters. However, I feel like Shigeo is everything I wish Yugi was. Complex, confused, legitimate concerns. Yugi had a lot of potential to be more complex but it got eaten up by the Konami machine and that canceled all that. But they both want to be good people, they both care deeply about their family and friends.

Their universes would never cross, I wouldn’t care for that. Not enough meat in that. But I do see many parallels in their characters.

🍇 Is there a particular scene/episode/book/etc that you want to just write a million fics about, over and over? Which one?

Gosh. Probably the fire scene in mp100. Or every little Teru moment we don’t see.

I already wrote about the fire scene here https://archiveofourown.org/works/50159251 but I can’t stop thinking about it ever. It hurts my soul. I just could think about it forever.

The other is Teru. What happens after his fight with Shigeo? How does he get Shigeo back to his apartment after Ritsu is kidnapped? What does Teru do when they leave the 7th division hq? What is he thinking and why do I want to dissect it all. Every bit of it.

I could just keep writing about Teru inbetween episodes forever.

ginga densetsu weed x mp100 crossover

here's a fun little summary for those who don't know what the heck gdw even is: basically the most shonen shonen to ever shonen from the early 2000s, but with dogs in it instead of people. there's a puppy named weed who finds out he's the son of this AMAZING dog named gin, who's the leader of all the other dogs (and has his own prequel manga/anime, but this ain't about him) that live in the wilds of japan, so weed goes on a quest to find him (gin doesn't even know he has a son until someone tells him, he's been out getting dog milk for a few... months? years?). then he meets a bunch of other dogs, ends up making lots of friends and turning them into a small-ish army to take down some Bad Guys who want to ruin the paradise that his dad fought so hard to make (it's a really cool, really big pile of rocks that means a lot to everyone). there's a lot of gruesome dog death and the animation quality is pretty inconsistent, ranging from pretty good to amusingly shitty, but it's near and dear to my heart and i'd recommend it to anyone who likes obscure-ish anime/manga (for some reason, it was popular in like, Finland but nowhere else, lol).

alright, onto my scattered thoughts about how something like this would even make sense:

weed and mob are both kids with incredible power (weed literally has a Special Move that only his father has, and it's the key to defeating the Big Bads), thrust into a violent world of adults (Claw and all their shit for mob, feuding dog factions for weed), and both wind up turning most of their enemies into friends and allies (the power of friendship is quite the potent one, except for when it doesn't work, which is sometimes, lol)

reigen's kinda like a fun fusion of GB and jerome; both are weed's guardians/mentors, but jerome's got the skills of a professional (he's an ex-assassin) while GB is a big bumbling goof who occasionally does something helpful (and tends to notice how weed is feeling before anyone else, also i think he's the only one who ever really remembers that weed's a kid? everyone else is just kinda like "hey, you're the leader's son, act like it! we expect so much from you even though you're only a few months old and ridiculously small!"); combine the two and i'd say you've got a reigen, but he's like... a shiba inu

KYOSHIRO AND TERU ARE PRACTICALLY THE SAME PERSON. no but seriously, kyoshiro's this other kid (an actual kid, like weed) who's gained this reputation for being ruthless and having a bunch of loyal followers, so weed goes to meet him and get him to join his cause, but then he sees how cruel he is enacting his own personal brand of "justice" on dogs he hates, and is like "alright actually you're a dick and i don't want your help anymore"; also he and weed fight and kyoshiro tells him that his father used to beat him so now he HATES adults and ESPECIALLY hates when they beat their kids (teru's got some fun ideas about adulthood too, don't he?), and all his followers are kids that would quite literally die for him; his fight with weed isn't so much of the same "reality check" that teru's is with mob, but they're both forever changed by these encounters with these kids who they're surprised (and annoyed) to realize are Just Like Them, in some ways, and they wind up admiring them and wanting to follow them and better themselves, while also repenting for their past shittiness

there's a Big Bad toward the end of the show that surrounds himself with these strong dogs that he's specifically chosen because of their superior abilities (they might as well be espers; seriously some dogs in this show can do CRAZY shit), and if that doesn't sound like toichiro and the ultimate five then i don't know what does; weed and friends promptly fight, defeat, and convince all of them to renounce their wicked doggie ways, but not before the Big Bad tosses one of them out like trash and he has his own little character arc where he comes to like weed's group and wants to help them; and he's a big, BIG dog, so... it's serizawa, toube is serizawa, he learns to be more than a tool for an overpowered asshole who doesn't actually care about him through the powers of kindness and compassion and then he becomes protective of his new friends and we can ignore what happens to him in-canon because THE GANG'S ALL HERE, NOW, TIME TO KICK SOME DOG ASS

there are no cats, but dimple can be one... like a dead one. or, well, an undead one. something something nine lives

if i had more brain cells bouncing around in my head right now, i'd come up with dog breeds for everyone (all the characters in gdw are different, distinct breeds, which is a neat thing), but I'm sure someone else has done it already; might do it anyway thought, could be fun (i mean we already know that serizawa's a st. bernard, reigen a shiba inu probably; weed's canonically an akita inu, which are special dogs, but hmmmmm)

ritsu being jealous of mob inheriting the battouga (special move) and being touted as the next leader of ohu when as far as he's concerned, he hasn't done a single thing to earn it. or something. honestly i'm not sure how the whole leader thing would work, since mob wouldn't be into it (just like he wasn't into becoming a god with dimple). come back to me on that.

what's the dog equivalent of spirits and such? spirits DEFINITELY exist in the gdw-verse (auras, too, i kid you not), but not the malevolent kind that haunt and curse people... unless that's suddenly an issue, y'know, because of all the dead dogs. ohu's haunted, send help

that's all my thoughts for now. i may have just made this because i want more people to watch this silly show, LOL.

Mob Psycho fandom you wanna know the most terrifying fusion possible? I present to you mogami and takenaka fusion from a fic I read, (slight mp100 manga spoilers warning) mogamis screw with your mind mindset is now supplemented by takenaka's ability to actually do so! Terrifying thanks I hate it!

The fic, by the way, is The Sense of Surrender by Pass1onAndHope on AO3 and @bl0okysansyjujvbe here on Tumblr. I don't know if they're still into mp100 or care about that fic (it's been 4 years holy crap) but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm still not over takenaka mogami fusion. Terrifying.
