Every Rose Has Its Thorns - Part Forty-Nine
pairing: Ricky Olson x ofc x Chris 'Motionless' Cerulli
warnings/tropes: slow burn, soulmates, strangers to enemies to lovers, betrayal, angst, fluff, smut, language, online bullying, panic attacks, stalking, mental health issues, conspiracy theories.
summary: In a world where soulmates inexplicably receive a tattoo that will match that of their soulmate the moment they turn eighteen years old, being famous and covered in very visible tattoos can make finding your true soulmate a questionable fate. For everyone involved.
author’s note: Looks like Rick was first!

Chris didn’t know why Ricky had moved back to his own house some days, okay, that was a lie, he knew exactly why he had. They both needed their own space sometimes, and he knew Ricky sometimes felt like he was imposing being here for so long. While they could live together, Ricky’s house had all of his own gear, his own equipment, and everything about their relationship with Talia was so new, and bringing up moving in together would probably scare the life out of her. The fact that she seemed to be dancing around the idea of moving in with either one of them told Chris that much. It did make him wonder what her thought would be if the option was living with the both of them instead of having to choose between them.
But no, right now, they had their separate houses, and yet, Ricky was currently sitting on the couch in Chris’ little studio, with his laptop perching on his folded knee typing away. Chris, however, was working some music for the new album. Neither of them were talking, they were just existing in the same space. So Chris, today, had no clue why Ricky had moved back to his own house if he was going to keep coming back over to his for no other reason than just to be.
Not that he was complaining. He enjoyed the company, he did, it just sometimes could have confusing elements, especially when there were moments that it made working on music just a touch more difficult hearing him typing away sitting on the couch to the side. He didn’t want to tell him to leave though, not for one second, he would be the first to admit, he was struggling with this particular song long before Ricky had walked in and sat down.
Rick was waiting for one of the other two to figure it out. Admittedly, it had taken him time to work it out himself. He wasn’t sure when it had happened, if it had had happened slowly, if there had been something that had triggered it, or it had happened gradually, but he’d just noticed one day. Their tattoos had stopped going crazy every time they were stimulated, let alone even touched one another. Ricky, he was almost certain it had been gradual, considering at first, for him, he’d be the first to admit his tattoo had almost constantly affected him when they stated dating. Once he gave in to how he felt for them… he didn’t want to stop. Even now, why should he want to resist how he felt for either of them? He didn’t just mean physically, either. Just being near them made him feel so much more secure. A brush of a hand, nudge of a shoulder, quick kiss, a knowing glance with a thought, it was the small things that helped him in ways he couldn’t really put words to.
Ricky looked up from his laptop, his fingers stilling for a moment as he paused from editing the chapter he was working on. He had been dabbling on this book for a while now, and working on it, he wasn’t sure how long it was going to take him. However, honestly, it hadn’t been the purpose when he brought his laptop over to Chris’ house today. No, he was just using it as something to do as a task while he spent as much time around Chris and Talia the last few days as possible, sat working while they did what they wanted. He wanted to be around both of them, waiting, watching, he wanted to see which of them would get it first.
Yes, he could just tell them. He could. However, that would be too easy. This was more fun. When Chris glanced over to him, studying him, seeming to looking at him expectantly for a second. For a moment he thought there was something in his gaze, Rick raised an eyebrow at him, waiting to see if he would actually get it.
“What is it?”
When Chris just shook his head and returned to his work, Rick couldn’t help but smirk slightly, nope, come on Chris, come on. Alright, they were both really just not going to wise on to this any time soon without a little bit of a nudge now, were they? Closing his laptop, slowly, Chris didn’t even react when he did either, not at first anyway. Setting his laptop aside on the couch, he stood up and moved stepped over to where Chris was sitting, standing behind him. Hands moving to his shoulders, one purposely slipping under his collar, so his fingers could stroke at his skin, directly over his tattoo slowly.
“How is the song going?”
They both worked on plenty of the album, this one Chris had been doing most of the work on, and Ricky had been giving comments here and there, but for the most part, it had been Chris on this one. When Chris got in this kind of mood, he would offer, but not press, because he knew Chris could get focus and would only shrug him off.
“Fine, I just, no, slow, hitting a wall- I-”
Hearing Chris sigh, Ricky smiled, letting his hands squeezed at his shoulders a bit,
“Maybe a bit of a massage will help. Then you can relax, and then when you’ve finally relaxed babe, you can get back to it, how about that? You’ve been focused on nothing else the last couple of days, it's about time you took a break anyway.”
Chris groaned low as Ricky went ahead just as he said he would, and was massaging his shoulders slowly, one hand over his shirt, while the other still under the collar. His fingertips stroking, circling around the leaves of the rose tattoo, their soulmate tattoo, the same gesture that would have had the mark going completely insane just weeks ago, and right then it was silent. While his other hand stilled, Ricky’s fingers continued to trace over their soulmate tattoo on Chris’ shoulder, letting his nails slowly scrap over the tattoo to draw his attention to it all the more. Smirking at the way he caught the sharp intake of Chris breath the more he dragged his nails across his skin.
Sure, he said he was giving Chris a massage, but he knew that wasn’t really his purpose, and whether Chris figure him out and called him on it, remained to be seen. Now either way, he wanted him to relax, but-
“That massage is getting a bit one-sided there…”
Ricky couldn’t help but grin at the way Chris said that, and the fact that Chris seemed to have a telling way, made him think he had finally gotten the point… please…
“Makes me think you are trying to tell me something.”
“Oh really, and what might that be?”
Had he figured it out, had he gotten the hint yet, Ricky waited with nothing short of excited anticipation. He’d felt this tingle ever since he’d realised. Not the same kind of tingle from his tattoo, but just the same, he just, wanted to shout it out, but even more, wanting to see which of his soulmates would figure it out next. If they both had and just weren’t telling him, he was going to- no, no, they weren’t that good at keeping secrets, they weren’t, not from him, they just weren’t.
“That you’re horny.”
Groaning, Ricky couldn’t help but tip his head back okay, he could see where Chris got his wires crossed but really, would he be that blatantly obvious?
“Dammit, Chris, we both know if I was that horny, I’d have no problem with sticking my tongue down your throat and just stripping your pants off. Try again..”
This time, Ricky was more blatant, walking around the chair facing Chris, staring him in the eyes as he pulled the shoulder of his shirt off his arm. Only then did he tear his gaze away so he could lean over and bring his lips to Chris shoulder blade over his tattoo, kissing at his skin, and swirl his tongue over the now fully shaded black rose petals. There was no mistaking the soulmate tattoo as the same one Ricky and Talia wore on their necks now. Chris gasped at the feel of Ricky’s mouth on his skin, and then, then…
“Wait.. Rick, our tattoo-
Smiling, lifting his head, now he was getting it, Ricky was already undoing Chris’ belt even as he was exclaiming.
“Oh, I know, I’ve been waiting to see which of you would figure it out next, now be a good boy and relax so you can finish your song, okay?”
Chris didn’t get to say much before Ricky was sinking down to his knees between his, pulling his pants open so he could get his cock out, tattooed fingers already working to stroke him to full hardness. Not that it was that difficult to do with the fact that he’d hard his hands and mouth on him just now, Chris had started to chub up already. As he massed his fingers up the length of Chris’ cock for a moment and rubbing his thumb over his head to smear some of the fluid of his pre-cum over his skin, teasing him. Groaning, Chris should know it was stupid to ask him anything right now when he was just getting started, really, but there he was, looking down at him, his lips parted, panting.
“How long since you figured it out?”
Ricky smirked up at him, his hand stroking along his cock again, the other holding onto his thigh firmly as he knelt between them. Licking at the head of Chris cock now teasingly at the fact he had to stop to answer, he’d just about to take him into his mouth too, just perfect timing there Chris.
“About a week, now, are you going to keep asking questions, or will you let me suck you off and help you relax so you can finish your song? Because one.. I am horny, and two, you won’t be relaxed quite enough to let me fuck you until after you’ve stopped thinking about it..”
Chris had been talking about how close he’d been to finishing it for days... The way Ricky kept stroking his cock just a little faster as he spoke, urging Chris on, there was no way he was going to last very long by the time Ricky got his mouth on him.
“Shit, Ricky, Please!”
His hands were gripping the arms of the chair for dear life as his head dipped back against the chair, he couldn’t look down at him again. He could cum just at the sight of him between his knees like that. The way he heard Ricky chuckle low at him wasn’t helping at all. A squeeze of his fingers at the base of his cock was followed by the feel of his warm wet mouth wrapped around his cock finally, followed with a long slow suck.
Chris let out a drawn out moan at the feel of his tongue swirling around the head of his cock, before Rick started taking more of his length into his mouth with each bob of his head. Groaning around him, letting vibrations run through Chris, until he was giving in with the slightest twitch of his hips. One of Chris hands were threading his fingers into Ricky’s hair, gripping his head slightly, not to control him, just to hold onto him as he continued to move. Rick didn’t stop, he kept going, until Chris was hitting the back of his throat, and now Chris was watching him, he couldn’t help it, watching as his cock was pushing in and out of Rick’s mouth. Seeing as he was pushing past his lips as Rick was fucking himself on his cock was absolutely driving him insane, and he had no doubt that was exactly what he wanted as he pushed him like this. Ricky was always a little shit when he gave him head, he either teased him mercilessly, or went at him full tilt so he had no choice but to cum so hard down his throat.
Today was the latter, it would seem, and he had a feeling he knew exactly what he could look forward to later as well. It was as he was thinking about Ricky fucking him with abandon, hard into the mattress, until he could barely walk, that he was cumming down his throat.
“Fuck, Rick!”
Pulling him back, so he could lean down, no hesitation at all to bring his lips to his, tasting himself as Ricky gasped against his mouth with a moan. Oh, he knew exactly how he was going to finish that song now.

Everyday I see looms for sale on facebook marketplace and everyday I yearn so so deeply, but I have no weaving experience beyond some very basic tablet bracelet kids stuff. Is there a good "beginners" loom that I might look out for if one pops up in my area?
a rigid heddle loom is a wonderful introduction to weaving that will allow you to get familiar with the basics of setting up a loom, woven structure, finishing, etc. while being more affordable than a multishaft table or floor loom as well as involving less moving parts. it depends on where you live, but generally the most common rigid heddle loom you'll find on secondhand sites is by ashford, a company from nz/aotearoa. any manufacturer is fine, just make sure the listing comes with all parts, ie. the heddle, warping peg, shuttles, etc. there are tons of free resources online from the manufacturers sites as well as youtube tutorials and books that can teach you every step of the process of using a rigid heddle loom
#you could use a rigid heddle loom your whole life and still have things to make with it#but the knowledge gained via working with one is highly transferable to other kinds of weaving#and imo a great loom to learn if you enjoy the weaving process and build confidence with the craft#it requires less of a financial commitment and less of a learning curve than a multishaft loom

Is it true that LOTR is coming to Australia? Can't seem to find any news about it
And that's because there aren't any news about it, it's merely a rumour started by yours truly xD
The production company responsible for The Lord of the Rings in Aotearoa is GWB Entertainment - based in Australia. Recently, they put out a job offer for "Head of Props and Puppets (Touring)" for the NZ production. There's no end date given, Australian applicants (or those with an Australian work permit) are explicitly preferred, and it says "touring". Why would a potential applicant need to work in Australia if the production wasn't going to move there eventually?
This led me to believe that the LotR Musical might go to Australia next. Just a theory :)

#BACKGROUND
Izabella was born in Auckland, New Zealand, on december 23, 1998 to a korean family, having two older sisters, one of them being Rosé from the popular kpop girl group Blackpink. At the age of five years old Izabella and her family moved to Melbourne, Australia; there, she started taking different classes since early age: jiu jitsu (even participating in national competitions), aerial and contemporary dance, she learned how to play the drums, the piano and the guitar, and even joined the church choir along with her sister Rosé.
In 2011, at age of 13 and influenced by her dad’s words, she attended an audition in Sydney, Australia for South Korean record label SM Entertainment, ranking at the top three among 1000 participants, and just some months after that, her sister Rosé signed with YG. They both dropped out of school and moved to South Korea with their mom.
At first, she was happy with being signed only as an actress and having small roles to start with her career, but then she realized that acting wasn’t her passion, and after two years, she parted with SM on good terms.
Some months after that, she got scouted by an agent of Starship Entertainment. Izabella even trained with the (now) monsta x members and even got contemplated to join the survival show “no mercy,” but she didn’t end up joining. In the winter of 2015, Izabella opens a soundcloud account and starts releasing her own songs under the stage name of “cherry,” her popularity starting to grow, even getting considered as one of the best underground rappers back then. In 2016, she decides on parting with Starship too on good terms.
Trying to not give up even after the circumstances and after seeing her older sister’s success, she joins “unpretty rapstar” in 2016 under the stage name of ‘cherry’, making it into the finals and ranking at 3rd place. Izabella gained a lot of popularity due this survival, even getting calls from companies that were interested on signing her. It’s in october 2016 that an agent from KQ Entertainment reaches out to her, and after convincing her on giving the company a chance, she officially becomes a trainee at the beginnings of november 2016.
A year later, she joins another survival show: “show me the money,” being part of zico’s and dean’s team, making it into the finals and finishing on 3rd place.
On october 24, 2018, Izabella made her official debut with Ateez.

Friday, May 10th 2024. Wellington.
It's officially been one week today that we first flew to NZ, and much like the after-effects of a dodgy kebab, things are moving far too quickly. For our hotel room we flipped a coin to see who would have the bed with a beautiful view of Lambton Harbour vs. the bedroom that looks like an abandoned dungeon. Jake won the nicer room, but at least I've got a mirror next to my bed to look at myself whenever I want to (so who's the real winner here).
Our first stop today was Mount Victoria, where we got to see the area that the hobbits first hid from a Nazgûl shortly after they left the Shire, as well as some other nearby areas in the films. For any fortune Kiwis who were passing us by they got to see a bunch of nutters pose for photos recreating these scenes (if you thought we were cool up until now you may want to re-check the previous blog posts). We also had a wander up to Mount Victoria Lookout which gave us a 360⁰ view of the entirety of Wellington (not too shabby, in all honesty).
Afterwards things started to get really ugly for my bank account, as were taken to a place called the Weta Cave - which is essentially the DLC of our tour, in that we paid a lot of money for things that we didn't actually need. I picked up a Fellowship poster, pins and magnets, whist Jake paid for one of every item (or thereabouts) in the gift shop and now has to figure out how to pack these items into his suitcase. It is definitely a place I would like to revisit when I've won the lottery, if for nothing else I still wouldn't be able to afford a house but I could buy myself some more hobbit pins (as Tolkien would have wanted).
We finished off the day by having a lovely lunch at The Roxy Cinema, a vintage but classy venue that had all manner of film memorabilia, posters, and ice cream options (I had the plum, which looked like an alien's brekkie but tasted incredible), and then headed to Weta Workshop where we crafted our own keyrings and then were given a tour of the company's history of prosthetics, costume and set building, and learned about their invaluable contributions to Lord of the Rings, Avatar, Prometheus and various other projects (but strangely not mentioning any of the bad ones they worked on, I guess they forgot about these).
We had dinner at a place called September Vegan Food with two Alabamians and two Scots who are also on our tour, both of whom, as it transpired, have a shared dislike of vegan food. But we tore down some cultural barriers and, dare I say it, made some friends tonight (which is good cos maybe I could trade one of them for Jake). Tomorrow, we are meeting a calligrapher from the films, and then we will have the afternoon free to ourselves, and I, for one, couldn't be more excited to get some laundry done.

hey, y'all. i'm beth (she/her, 25, est/edt) but i might be changing my alias because i lowkey just don't vibe with beth anymore lmao so stay tuned! and i am ten thousand and a half years late as usual! this is ash kwon or grey. you can call him either. friends tend to call him ash but he came up with grey and thinks it's sexy or something so idk 🙄
take a peak below the cut for (a lot, sorry) more info on this guy and give this a like or send me a message if you would like to plot with him ♥
past
okay so he was born in san francisco and considers it his hometown but did a fair bit of traveling with his mom for her job growing up. full list of places pending but probably includes like tokyo, london, seoul, queenstown nz, among others. he flitted between fancy private schools in san francisco and some other places and homeschooling during a few brief periods depending on where he was (and you can tell!). was super into music and dance as a kid.
he moved to los angeles shortly before high school and attended a performing arts high school (you can tell!)
he always knew he wanted to pursue music, but he really went all-in during high school. he uploaded covers and original songs on youtube and soundcloud, spent his fridays at open mics, etc. in his senior year of high school, he connected with a songwriting/music production group based and he signed with them shortly after turning eighteen. he worked with their la headquarters initially.
anyway, he worked as a songwriter and producer throughout 2015 and 2016, with credits on several major korean and u.s. artists (including eternal's "chained up" and "hot enough")
he also debuted as a solo artist with "put my hands on you", which was technically his american debut. it went pretty under the radar, as did his second us single "love".
near the back half of 2015, he started spending more time in seoul as he worked on song for a korean debut. his first ep and korean debut was released in 2016. it was more popular than his american debut, if still not... you know, a top selling album of the year or anything. enough people listened to land him a couple of brand deals at least!
he ended up moving to seoul around the time the ep came out. his move to seoul was supposed to be short-term at first, but he's still here seven years later so...
he released an additional single album as a solo artist before parting ways amicably with the company in 2017
exact timelines can be discussed with the other deep blue members but i imagine ash started working with deep blue around february (?) that year, only a couple of months before he left his company
anyway he fell in love with deep blue and was all-in when the opportunity for them to sign to culture creative arose. (in my headcanon, although again this can be discussed with other deep blue members) despite being the last member to join, culture creative nudged him toward an official leader role because he had a couple of years under his belt working in the industry in a professional capacity already
he participates a fair amount in songwriting and producing for the band (and very heavily in his solo music). he also continues to write for other artists, including angelic, true north, mirrorworld, and future/femme
2019 was a big year for him! he went on superband, where the cover he participated in of ilysb went viral. it earned him quite a few fans but also began a narrative that he wasn't fully invested in deep blue because people were like, dude, you already have a band why are you competing to be in another one?
he wasn't in the winning team / band so it didn't matter anyway lmao
he released some music on soundcloud during deep blue's early years, but his first official solo single since being a part of deep blue came out in 2021, "instagram". this is his most known song as a solo artist and even helped get him a mama award for composer of the year.
present
these days, he's still the main vocalist / guitarist / leader of deep blue. loves deep blue to death no matter what anyone says
(some people question his loyalty since he debuted as a solo artist first and eventually did get back into releasing solo music — he refutes any such accusations by saying some music works better with the band and some music works better solo — and also because of his stint on superband)
things have been a little slower for deep blue release-wise the past couple of years so he has been working more as a soloist again, particularly venturing back into the us market with all-english tracks. he'd love for deep blue to drop another project again soon though!
he also does some mv directing. has been into filmmaking and photography for years, but first participated in mv direction for his first ep. his first directing work outside of his own music was in 2020 on true north's can you see me
ummm technically he lives in seoul and in los angeles because he got a place in los angeles while working on miito, but for roleplay purposes, he'll mostly be in seoul
while his fame and fandom stats are above average, his reputation is below average. dude is honestly just a little too defiant and messy. he's got a messy personal life, he gets bitchy with fans that cross his boundaries, he's gotten on stage drunk a few times, may or may not have almost gotten caught smoking weed... it's not great optics and culture creative doesn't do all that much to rein it in as long as he doesn't do anything actually career-ending
personality
a little emo boy. too emotional for his own good.
also too reckless for his own good and convinces himself it's just independence and it's a good thing!
one of his toxic traits is claiming to hate fame but craving the validation of an audience to kind of absurd levels
can be very flighty and hard to reach, but is incredibly loyal to those he values most
falls in love every two business days, writes a few songs about them, breaks his own heart, writes more songs about that
says he hates conflict but will start an argument just to feel something sometimes
lives in his head and not in a fun lil manic pixie dream boy way but a slightly self-obsessed anxiety spiral kinda way
you thinks he's so cool and different and then the law pulls up and he won't get in the car and you're like oh god damn not another rockstar 🙄
plot ideas
roommate / former roommate ? he's the kind of guy who needs his alone time and would rather live on his own, but he might have had roommates in his early days in seoul (2015-2016ish) or even now because one or both of them is in between places. could've been roommates with a deep blue member at any point in his timeline too tbh
musical collaborators. fellow songwriters and/or producers he works with sometimes. singers whose voices he'll use on demos when his won't really work (so mostly female vocalists or guys with really unique voices).
muses he's worked on music for or featured on their music or directed an mv of (or will in the future)! directing an mv is the most limited here just because he has a specific style but i'd love to try to work something out for anyone
it'd also be cool for him to branch more into photography and maybe shoot a photoshoot for someone? again, he has a certain style, but i'd love to try to work something out
here's a list of ways muses can be involved in his career items if anyone is interested !!!
people whose work he's a fan of! this is easiest with singers who do r&b or more indie rock type stuff or directors tbh, but actors who have been in kind of grungy / existential / artsy stuff are also an option lmao
alternatively people who are fans of his work ? could also be a never meet your heros, met him and it soured their opinion of him type thing
older people who sort of mentor and guide him because they see he sort of needs it lmaaoo. if they're too obvious with their guiding it would lowkey annoy him tho
younger people he's a bit of an older brother figure toward! people he sees as having similarities to him or who he feels need a shoulder to lean on (even if he's not the most reliable in that department)
people he hates. maybe he thinks they're too much of a goody two shoes / too fake or they disliked him first or they had a bad encounter where their personalities clashed
people he knows from his earliest days in seoul (2015) when he was just songwriting and hadn't become a celebrity of his own yet. maybe they were already famous, maybe not, but either 1) they're still friends to this day which feels like something of a miracle or 2) they had a falling out at some point
people he knows from his childhood or adolescence? people from san francisco / the bay area or los angeles are easiest for this, but he did spend short times in other places with his mom like tokyo, london, new zealand, so they could have met there as well
exes / former flings. he loves love but is honestly just a lot to handle after the honeymoon phase so he's had a lot of failed relationships / flings. they can be friends now or still hold resentment or still have feelings for each other. endless possibilities tbh [can be any gender]
hear me out... a deep blue member he hooked up with because he's messy
a really serious ex. they were very committed. might have lived together or even been engaged but the end of the relationship was super hard on ash [can be any gender]
current flings / fwb. similar to above. again endless possibilities that probably depend on the muse [can be any gender]
#. intro#thefourintro#[ this got really long sorry his bio was just the most half-assed thing tbh so i wanted to expand here ]#[ a fleshed out plots page coming eventually... ]

3 January 2024 - I received an email from a canyoning company in New Zealand yesterday. It was a company that I'd been in contact with before I came to Australia that had shown interest in hiring me. But before I bought a plane ticket, this company notified me that because of weather and bad road conditions, the canyon that this company operates in is closed for commercial operations. Therefore, this company wouldn't be hiring anyone since there's no work for guides. But, yesterday, I got an email from this company saying that the canyon is opening to commercial operations and that the company wants to start sending tours out. However, all of the guides that previously worked for this company have found other jobs. The owner of the company asked me if I was interested in coming to NZ and joining his operation and working as a guide or assistant guide for him.
So that's interesting...
I called the folks for just a few minutes but didn't get much of a chance to talk.
Daniel and I had a mission: we needed to get to the Tetkas' house by 2 pm to help move some furniture. Daniel and I left Dee Why at 1:15 to take a bus to Manly Vale. The Tetkas needed a couch moved from inside to outside. The moving of the couch took fewer than five minutes. Then, the Tetkas wanted to reward us for our hard work, so they insisted that they feed us. Tetka made pasulj (pronounced "possool"), which is a vegan bean soup. It was delicious! I finished mine pretty quickly because it was so good, and Tetka noticed my bowl was empty, and she insisted that I have another bowl! So, I was stuffed after two huge bowls of pasulj. After lunch, I headed back to Dee Why alone because Daniel had some other errands to run.
I cooked a vegan gado gado for dinner. This is a recipe that my housemates and I cooked in Ann Arbor, and I believe we called it Helm's Deep pad thai. And then I cooked this meal in Bremerton, and it went by various names. I cooked this for Marie and Daniel, and Marie (not sure about Daniel) enjoyed it!
After a significant food coma, I decided to go on a night run. I can feel my body getting stronger; I'm less tired and less sore today than when I took my first jog on the beach.
I'm thankful for talks with my parents, no matter how short. I'm thankful for missions with Daniel. I'm thankful for the opportunity to help the Tetkas, thereby having a way to show my gratitude to Marie and Daniel for all that they've done for me. I'm grateful for the Tetkas love and cooking. The Tetkas love me, and they're so cute. Even though we don't interact much, I'm pretty sure they think of me as a nephew/grandson, and that makes me smile. I'm grateful that Marie liked my gado gado! I'm grateful for late-night runs on the beach.

Portland Nomads, Part I
We moved out of our house in early April, and got on a plane that ultimately landed us in Gisborne, NZ on 13th November, 2023. Between those two dates we lived in 10 different places. This is that story. I can't and won't give accurate dates because honestly, I'm not into that level of detail and honestly, are you? When i was planning this post i thought of including pics of the places that we stayed, but I feel like that's intrusive and the theater of the mind is just so much more fun. I would like to thank all the people who opened up their houses to us. You all contributed a great deal to our success. You have our gratitude. We will not send you to Detroit.
1.
We started off by moving into an AirBnB space just off 42nd in North Portland. We packed 4 suitcases, one for each of us. We also had about a dozen bags of various toys and food. There were also numerous items that we couldn't drag around with us, and those were/are held by family. This AirBnB gave us our sleeping arrangements that would persist until today: Jody and Ira would sleep in one bed, and Dashiell and I would sleep in another. Not much else to report about this space. Easter was limited to the small front patch and side patch of weeds/grass. Also i lost my iPad here and the management company for it were impossible to get ahold of. Whatever. I got it free from work so hey, Ya Win Some Ya Lose Some.
2.
Next we moved into another AirBnB space on the same property as a tiny house community, on the large rear part of a flagpole lot about 3 blocks from our prior spot. more about what a flagpole lot (or flag lot) is here. We got this place because our friends Heather, Rudy, and their daughter Celeste live in one of the tiny houses there. Our spot was a divided portion of the owner Eecole's house. Dash and I got the pull-out bed in the couch.
Our space was small but the property was HUGE. There is an expansive garden, 4 tiny houses, 2 sheds, a large porch with hot tub, outdoor shower. It was very outdoor bohemian living, which was freeing and challenging at different times. Dash and Ira had a great times with Celeste. It was nice to finally tell the kids to Go Outside And Play!
We were introduced to Potato Thursday, and highly recommend it. We would have a standing tradition of, every Thursday, having folks gather in the garden area and fire up the grill with the intention of eating potatoes. When we arrived this gradually became Thursday being a Feast with salads, sausages, other sides, beer, etc. it was a Real Party.
We spent 1-1/2 months here. Enough time to see spring turn into summer. Enough to see raspberry sprouts turn into full plants and trade our winter clothes for shorts. Enough time to figure out a little more about who we were.
3.
We had stayed here before, but next we stayed about 1-2 weeks at my half-brother's/sister-in-law's house. Since that's WAY too awkward to say in real life, let's call it Michael and Bree's house. They have two kids Elliott and August, and they're all lovely people. Huge nerds, which put us right at home. I think Dash was able to fit in the bed with Jody and Ira, while I slept on the floor. Well, not literally. I think I had a mattress. It was near the end of this stay that Jody wanted to visit her family in Kuna (near Boise), so she took the kids over there while I finished my stay with Bree and Michael.
I anticipated this being a big post but obvi I'm going to have to break it up a bit. I'll re-title to Pt. I

7, 12, 13 pls. :D
7. Biggest turn offs:
SMOKING!!! There's a couple of more like controlling, rude & negative people, but smoking is by far the biggest one (childhood trauma says hi).
12. Ideas of a perfect date:
Never been on a date, but I'm a foodie so good food is a must!!! I love Sports and outdoorsy stuff, so take me to a hockey game? Take me hiking? I don't knoooooow. Tbf, I'm pretty easy, so as long as the company and the food! is good I probably wouldn't actually care that much about the rest 😂
13. Life goal:
I dont have one anymore?
It used to be my life goal to move to Canada permanently but I've (mostly) abandoned that post living through Covid in Australia and post health crisis, because I was reminded that while not everything is peachy in god ol Germany, we do have it pretty damn good here!
I do have a bucket list (even though I wouldn't call anything on there a life goal) so I can give you some of those goals.
I'd like to be fluent in all the 5 languages I technically speak (will never ever make that happen), I really want to learn how to snowboard (I checked surfing off while in Australia) and I want to travel to Iceland and New Zealand (I should have already been in NZ but Covid...)
GET IN MY BUSINESS PLEASE

South Sound breweries SIG and Triceratops expand distribution via River Barrel River Barrel Distributing.
Press Release
River Barrel Distributing continues to grow its list of Pacific Northwest breweries with the addition of Triceratops Brewing Company and Sig Brewing Company. Both are family-run breweries based in Washington.
Triceratops Brewing was begun by partners Rob and Kelly Horn. Originally from Flemington, NJ, the Horns moved to Olympia, WA and opened their own brewery in August 2014 after years of home brewing. Triceratops’ operations began in the family’s garage and with the last name Horn, the brewery name was an easy choice. Three years later, the Horns opened a tasting room in Tumwater and have had a steady flow of great customers, good friends, and craft beer lovers.
“We’re very happy to add Triceratops to our list,” says River Barrel Distributing Sales Manager Joe Cohen. “Rob and Kelly brew clean, classic styles that appeal to a wide market of beer drinkers.”
To date, Triceratops Brewing has earned four medals at the Washington Beer Awards for their Hawthorne Coffee Milk Stout, Pennsyltucky Vienna-style Lager, Revival Coffee and Motors Coffee Milk Stout, and Bohemian Raspberry Golden Ale.
Three varieties Cohen is looking forward to sharing with the Western Washington area are:
Collin James Irish Red Ale - Low in alcohol and bitterness, this Irish Red Ale is a well-balanced people pleaser. Lightly hopped with the mild, earthy, and somewhat woody Fuggle variety, this beer entices the nose with a rich, toffee-like aroma. Meanwhile, notes of plum and raisin play with a slightly bready and nutty flavor provided by Irish ale malt and a touch of roasted barley.
Liquid Swords IPA - We launched our popular rotating IPA series back in 2016, and by drawing on the wide variety of expressive hop varieties available to brewers, haven’t made the same beer since. Hazy or bright, fruity or piney, no two Chambers are alike, and they never last long.
Pennsyltucky Vienna-Style Lager - This smooth, Vienna-style lager is inspired by the brewing traditions of Central Pennsylvania. Caramunich malt gives this classic style a nice, roasty flavor while the Cluster hops provide a little bite and a touch of earthy bitterness.
About 30 miles NE of Triceratops’ taproom is Sig Brewing Company. Begun in 2020, the family-owned location in Tacoma’s Historic Brewing District offers beers of nearly every style as well as a full menu of brick oven pizza.
“We love craft beer and are very proud to be part of its local community,” says John Samuelson, Sig Brewing Founder . We were fortunate enough to hire a talented head brewer in Jeff Stokes and opened our doors in the spring of 2020. Our goal was to differentiate ourselves in as many ways as possible including our beers, food, and taproom.”
Sig Brewing focuses on experimental varieties including fermented and soured beers as well as hoppy beers and pilsners. Three brands that will be distributed by River Barrel include:
Experimental Nectar IPA – A hazy/juicy IPA brewed with 2-row, wheat, and pilsner malts in tandem with some flaked oats and brown sugar. Mash hopped with NZ Cascade, whirlpooled with Nectaron, and DDH'd with a blend of Hopsteiner's EXP 17701 and 17704 hops. Fermented with Omega Yeast's Cosmic Punch yeast.
In Rainbows IPA – An unfiltered American IPA brewed with 2-row, special pale, and spitz malt coupled with a touch of flaked oats. Kettle hopped with Bravo and Citra, and DDH'd with Mosaic and Comet. The perfect IPA for gazing at rainbows. Fermented with Omega Yeast OYL-005 Irish Ale strain.
Pilscifer: A New American Pilsner - Built on a malt base of pilsner malt with a touch of corn, wheat, oats, and vienna malt thrown in. We then kettle hopped Pilscifer with Adeena and dry hopped it with El Dorado. Crispy with a new world fruit flare and fermented with Fermentis 34/70 Lager yeast.
“I'm excited to be on board with River Barrel and hope that we can continue to push boundaries and grow our brand through this partnership,” says Stokes. “I am most excited about growing our lager program and our barrel aged portfolio over time, but also happy to have the opportunity to get our core beers into a much wider array of spots!”
River Barrel Distributing serves the Western Washington counties of King, Pierce, Thurston, Lewis, Snohomish, Kitsap, and Grays Harbor.

How to Pack and Organize for Your Auckland Move Like a Pro
Moving to a new home can be both exciting and overwhelming. A well-organized packing strategy can make the entire process much smoother. Whether you're hiring Auckland movers or doing it yourself, efficient packing and organization will save you time, stress, and even money. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to pack and organize like a pro for your Auckland move, covering everything from sorting items to choosing the right moving supplies. By the end, you’ll be ready to tackle your move with confidence!
Start Early and Plan Ahead
One of the best tips for moving is to start early. Procrastinating only adds unnecessary stress. Planning ahead gives you plenty of time to organize and prepare, which is crucial if you're hiring a moving company in Auckland. Starting early also allows you to book reliable moving companies Auckland residents trust, ensuring you have professional support when the big day arrives.
Declutter and Downsize
Moving is a great time to declutter. Go through each room and separate items into categories: keep, donate, sell, or discard. Downsizing means fewer items to pack, which can lead to significant savings when working with moving companies NZ. Donating or selling items also lightens the load, making it easier to organize your belongings.
Create an Inventory List
Once you’ve decluttered, create a list of all the items you're planning to move. This list will not only help you keep track of your belongings but also makes unpacking much easier. Additionally, providing an inventory list to Auckland movers can help them better estimate your moving needs, from the size of the truck to the amount of packing material required.
Gather High-Quality Packing Supplies
Investing in high-quality packing supplies is essential for a successful move. Gather strong boxes, bubble wrap, packing paper, and tape. Look for boxes in a variety of sizes; small boxes are ideal for heavy items, while larger boxes are perfect for lighter, bulkier items. Some moving companies Auckland offers will provide packing materials as part of their service, so check with your movers to see if this is available.
Label Boxes Clearly and Consistently
Proper labeling is a game-changer when it comes to moving. Label each box with the contents and the room it belongs to. Consider color-coding boxes by room to make the unpacking process even more efficient. Clear labeling will also help house movers Auckland know where each box goes, streamlining the move-in process.
Pack by Room
Packing by room is one of the best ways to stay organized during your move. By focusing on one room at a time, you can keep similar items together and make the unpacking process easier. Moving house can feel chaotic, but packing systematically helps maintain order, even when surrounded by boxes.
Pack Fragile Items with Care
When packing fragile items, use plenty of cushioning. Wrap items in bubble wrap or packing paper, and place them snugly in boxes. Label these boxes as "Fragile" so that Auckland movers and anyone helping you knows to handle them with extra care. Some moving companies NZ specialize in packing delicate items, so consider asking your movers if they offer this service.
Use Suitcases and Bags for Personal Items
Luggage and duffel bags are perfect for packing personal items, clothes, and other essentials. Use suitcases to transport heavier items like books, or to store important documents that you’ll want to keep close during the move. Moving companies Auckland suggest packing a separate suitcase with essentials you’ll need immediately, such as toiletries, chargers, and a change of clothes.
Protect Furniture and Large Items
For larger items like furniture, take extra precautions to prevent damage. Wrap furniture in moving blankets or use plastic wrap to protect it from scratches. If possible, disassemble large items to make them easier to move. House movers Auckland are usually skilled in handling large items, so discuss any concerns about specific furniture pieces with them beforehand.
Consider Professional Packing Services
If packing feels overwhelming, consider hiring Auckland movers that offer professional packing services. Many moving companies Auckland residents trust provide packing as an add-on service, saving you time and effort. Professional packers have the experience and materials needed to pack efficiently, ensuring your belongings are safe and secure during transit.
Arrange for Moving Insurance
Moving insurance offers peace of mind, especially for valuable or fragile items. Even the best moving company Auckland can encounter unforeseen issues, so protecting your belongings with insurance is a smart step. Some moving companies NZ provide insurance options, so inquire about coverage for your move.
Prepare a Moving Day Survival Kit
On moving day, you’ll need a few essentials within reach. Pack a box or bag with snacks, water, cleaning supplies, tools, and any necessary paperwork. This "survival kit" will help you stay comfortable and organized on moving day, especially if you’re moving with family.
Communicate with Your Movers
Good communication with your moving company Auckland team is essential. Make sure your movers understand any specific needs or instructions you have. Clear communication helps Auckland movers execute your move smoothly and allows them to take any extra precautions for fragile or valuable items.
Double-Check Your Inventory Before Moving Day
As moving day approaches, review your inventory list to ensure nothing is forgotten. Go over each room to verify that all items are packed, labeled, and ready to go. This last check will also help you remember any final details you need to discuss with house movers Auckland professionals.
Take Time to Unwind
Moving can be physically and emotionally draining. Once everything is packed and ready, take a moment to relax. You’ve put in the hard work, and it’s time to let your Auckland movers handle the rest. A quick break can make all the difference, helping you start fresh in your new home.
Conclusion
Packing and organizing for a move can be challenging, but with the right approach, you can make it a stress-free experience. From decluttering and labeling to working with trusted moving companies Auckland offers, these steps will help you pack and organize like a pro. By staying organized, starting early, and communicating effectively with house movers Auckland trusts, you’ll ensure a smoother, more efficient move. Whether you're moving within the city or relocating elsewhere in New Zealand, these tips will set you on the right path for a successful transition. Happy moving!
