my partner is much more of a gamer than me which is fun because it means they can point out all the wrong ways i’ve been going about playing games throughout the years. my first playthrough of Borderlands 2 was done entirely with my laptop’s touchpad rather than an actual mouse or controller, something many gamers apparently think is “cringe”

got a hand me down macbook from my mom and learning how to use it after being a windows user for like 15+ years has me feeling like a boomer trying to use a computer for the first time

went to micro center for the first time tonight to get myself a laptop (first one ive had in a decade!) and im still just totally blown away by the experience. it was so nice

#everyone was so helpful and knowledgeable and kind #i havent rlly needed a laptop since i do most of my Stationary Computing on my pc/could use a chromebook to write #since i was using docs to do the bulk of my writing #now that im Locking In to work on aermainh im primarily using scrivener now but that cant run on a chromebook #so ive had to give in and splurge. thank u birthmas money #but yeah they were so nice and helpful i cant believe shopping used to be like that everywhere. it felt like stepping back in time #i picked out a cheap wireless mouse but they didnt hav a display model and i was complaining abt it #but an employee was like ''i hav a box cutter if u want i can open one for u :)'' and let me try it out #like wtf that's just. its wild to me i expect so little from retail environments #i dmed my brother afterward like ''u never told me mc was so nice'' and he was just like ''oh my god u've never been 😧 its amazing''#(he's my dedicated geek squad i love him)#watch your feet

having only 2 usb ports in your laptop and no extension ports can so weird things for your setup

#for example‚ i like using my usb keyboard #mostly bc reaching for my far-away laptop keyboard when using my drawing tablet is kinda inconvenient #sooo i just put both of those in my usb ports in exchange for my wireless mouse #on the bright side‚ it helps me get used to my laptop touchpad AND my drawing tablet more as a pointing device #plus i get to play osu more with this setup #but there's also a learning curve + the distractions as well #so it still needs some getting used to #bc i feel like this would be kinda effective on the long run #maybe if i buy a usb keyboard with extra usb ports‚ then this can actually be more effective??#idk i'm new to these sorts of hardware shit ¯\_(ツ)_/¯#the meaningful jargon

I plan to buy a computer and start trying to have a small home office (I swear the next job I get will be work from home)

But I’m curious, to those that have desktop computers (I haven’t had one since I was like..13), what do you recommend for someone to research when planning to buy a PC?

I’d really like to get a gaming PC for gaming, art, and possibly work from home (even for current job if need be)

I’m trying to stay away from the mini computers due to their cooling capabilities and I’m not looking into doing hardcore online gaming (the only mmo I own currently is ESO and I haven’t played bc I know it would kill my basic 2013 hp laptop)

So please share any recommendations or things to research???

I’m not keen on building my own UNLESS someone can send me a link to a video or series of videos that detail what is needed and how to put a generic computer together and as long as graphic cards have like….come down to a normal price

#if I buy brand new already built I’m hoping to spend somewhere between $500-$800 on the computer alone #I’ll hook it up to my TV in the meantime #would just need to get a wireless keyboard and mouse #I have a Bluetooth controller that should be fine #otherwise I have a wired Xbox controller that I use on my laptop (I bullied it into playing Skyrim)#so yeah #send help and suggestions pls
