hey sorry about this, trying to tag my followers. i was @/mountsainthelensofficial aka @/totallynormalmountain, did something impulsive and accidentally deactivated my blog lol, so i'm back over here. this blog is probably gonna be more general volcanology with a focus on the cascades kinda like it was before less of the gimmick it started as, but i figured i might as well branch out a little given the opportunity

Did you know there's bread from Pompeii that was preserved in @vesuvius-official 's eruption? What should we do with this information?
Moreover, this begs the question: does @mountsainthelensofficial have her own forbidden ash snack?

I can see what I can do for those Scottish volcanoes... We were part of the same chain, back in the day; although most of them formed waywayback in the Permian. Great chance to catch up with some old friends!

On This Day in Cryptid History
April 24th: In 1994, Brian Canfield was driving through Pierce County, Washington when his vehicle stalled, and before he knew it, a massive bat-like creature landed on the hood of his car. This was the first sighting of Batsquatch, which has been seen around Mt. St. Helens.

@mountsainthelensofficial i DID i DID!
On March 8th, 2005 Mt. St. Helens erupted. I was 9 miles away in the parking lot of the closed visitor's center. There were no other cars or humans in sight.
I had been working a desk job with lots of time and freedom to surf whatever websites I wanted. One I returned to daily was the live cam at Mt St Helens. In September 2004 the volcano had started to build a dome in the crater left from the devastating eruption in 1980. I was and always have been obsessed with this volcano when it 'woke up'. I visited a couple times prior to 2004 as I loved the visitor's center and the nature that surrounds it.
When the eruption began, about 25 minutes after I arrived, there was complete silence for a few moments. Then I heard woohoo'ing from unseen people in the area who were also watching what I was seeing.
There were flashes of lightning in the ash clouds but not one rumble of thunder. After the initial vocal reactions from the others, it turned dead silent again.
Luckily the wind was blowing in the opposite direction so I could stay and watch instead of getting tf outta there. Ash in car engines is bad. The ash causes the parts to seize up so the direction of the ash cloud was a very important thing to be aware of.
It was honestly otherworldly to experience an eruption at such close proximity.
I was located north of the volcano. The first photo below is mine, from the north. The second photo was the view from Portland, Oregon which is south.
It was a once in a lifetime experience that I treasure.
