Never mind that's it's 4:30 am, new historical legend art just dropped! I wanted to redesign historical legend's armor as the original was essentially a historical LU legend rather than my own and my silly little AU has morphed in my head into it's own distinct thing! I included a wide shot and a closeup version for better detail! This time her armor is inspired by central European armor of the 13th century, featuring still primarily maille armor as in earlier centuries yet now including some notable reinforcement from in the form of the coat of plates seen on her in red! The coat of plates is a fabric or leather (in this case leather) bodice with a bunch of small steel armor plates riveted to the inside. You'll commonly see this type of armor mistakenly coined "studded leather" in fantasy and games which is unfortunately a modern misinterpretation of period art depicting coats of plates/brigandine (a later development of the coat of plates) This armor style was very popular in the later high middle ages as the metalworking technology only allowed smiths to make relatively small plates, so overlapping them and riveting them to a soft shell gave great protection for the time. In the drawing you can see that the rivets are done in a decorative pattern which is also quite typical of the period, though of course here it's the Triforce of course! The rest of the outfit is taken both from my previous historical legend pieces as well as from the original game art from ALTTP and the silly genderswap fun from shonen captain. I didn't originally plan to draw a background for this piece but I was loving the drawing so much that I really wanted to make it pop with a fun split background with both Hyrule and the dark world! Thank to @musical-chan for the idea to use her lance as the split line and @aurora-boreas-borealis for help with the detail painting! help from y'all really helped make this one pop! Also the horse coloration is based on the intro to the oracle games where legend is seen riding a horse, but they need a name! please comment if you have ideas :)

This is a bit of a proof of concept for something I'm working on! Neon Knights (I know the name is probably already taken) are just as they sound! Knights that live in a cyberpunk kind of world that I'm working on and I wanted to see how that would look before I got too far into it. This is my "Knight of Owls" as I'm calling her for now. I'll see what else I can come up with here soon as I'm done with Lucoa!

Today, let's have some fuzz. This is Sir Michael from 1999. It's an artwork I made while I was still in college.
The Kansas City Renaissance Festival is local to me, and I visited every year for about twenty years. For several years running, I took a loooooot of photos. This picture is based pretty closely on one of my photos of a mounted, aluminum-plated knight who was getting ready for the joust. He was representing England and the "good guys". I think his opponent was the "evil" Spaniard.
Prismacolor pencils over a watercolor painting.

Made this centaur cleric and designed some armor for him. I would love to see your take on armor for centaurs. I use so many of your references and I'm so happy every time I see your posts!
just a LITTLE past the ask, but I happen to be playing dress-up with my centaurs so I snuck in a couple armour options to think about as a preview :)
#asked and answered#centaurs#first is gothic inspired by actual mounted armor#second is probably more of what a centaur knight would wear in world#last is average Rider Armor#Linebreakers are more heavily armored#but most range from very light to barely armored#mostly they shield the front for initial impact and rely on riders to protect them beyond that#the rest of the harness is more contact hooks to keep their riders attached

The portcullis raises and "The Prince" rides forth in full plate on a scaled draconic horse. His winged helmet and glowing red eyes are reminiscent of Warduke, though the Prince seems to predate the official D&D toy & cartoon character by at least 2 years. (Don Greer, Down in the Dungeon, Squadron/Signal Publications, 1981)

I love when there's an armored fighter adventurer type and their plating just ends at the knee
Love it, it's good for immersion
helps it feel believable
#Like for an adventurer who's mostly journeying on foot it makes sense#full on greaves and sabatons were more the domain of mounted knights rather than ones on foot#Like with the exception of some very specific halberd techniques typically people just like#wouldn't really strike below the knee anyway#so armoring up the shin and foot would largely just be extra weight#and if you're gonna be walking everywhere you're gonna wanna trim down weight any way you can#pun's text posts

Knight with mount
Commission for @foxgraves on Twitter! The halfling knight is riding an ordona, an intelligent golden wolf-goat. This was so fun to draw, thank you!
