Some drunken ramblings about headcannons

You know how Ushotan's voice was damaged, right? His voice was described as "His voice was horrific – a corroded scrape, dragged up from strained vocal cords and strangled by a damaged vox-unit" by Kandawire.

My personal headcanon is that it was a mixture of all that yelling during the Unification Wars, combat stimm abuse, but it was finally Valdor who irrevocably damaged his vocal cords upon Ararat.

‘Your voice.’ Valdor noted. He raised a hand to the Thunder Warrior’s neck, ignoring how Ushotan had flinched as he approached him. He rested his hand lightly, tracing the scarred tissue and mangled flesh, taking extra care given how sensitive Ushotan was. Valdor kept his voice monotone. ‘Your vocal cords are damaged. The Palace Apothecaries will repair them.’ Valdor had remembered his voice before the damage, that deep, rumbling growl, sometimes raised in a roar, before it had been scraped apart, and turned to a sound akin to gravel in a mountainslide. His fingers lingered over the Thunder Warrior’s larynx, feeling the flesh rise and fall with each of Ushotan’s breaths. 

‘And I wonder who’s fault that was?’ Ushotan, with an irate shake of his head, tossed his hand away. ‘ Yours. Way back on Ararat, unless your perfect recall has selectively failed you again, captain-general.’ There was reproach in Ushotan’s words now, but no true hatred. Behind that thin veneer of vengeance, there was only weariness. The hate that had once animated him had burnt itself out to cinders and mere nostalgia at this point, nothing more. 

‘But you couldn’t slit my neck all the way on Ararat, could you? Nicked them, but didn’t shut me up for good. Must be such a humiliation for you, captain-general. A mark on your perfect record.’ Ushotan, without the same care Valdor had shown for him, runs a finger against the scar lacing across his throat. They had been damaged long before by a lifetime of warcries and genetic instability, but it was only Valdor had nearly killed him, and wounded him beyond repair. There was some kind of deepseated rage in that simple, reckless movement, hate forcibly used and forged to disguise sadness.

i just noticed, do you not have a queue tag?

nope! queuing posts is my default action, so i don’t bother with it

a long, long time ago, in like 2016 or so when i first entered fandom tho and i didn’t do the queue thing, apparently i did have a queue tag, and it was #to the queue hoard, but no i don’t use it anymore

It’s disturbing that Mess constantly compares sex to natural disasters like earthquakes, ravines, infernos, mountainslides etc., since it leaves the underlying message that something as intimate as sex is exclusively violent.
