Like if he hadn't found out Stan had accidentally broke the project (or if the bag of Toffee Peanuts hadn't been there), then it very easily could have (and probably would have) been Ford getting kicked out.

Filbrick was abusive to both twins, and Ford would have been in the line of fire if Filbrick hadn't known Stan broke the project.

Running lines wasn't easy when your scene partner was constantly distracted.

Christine glanced up from her script. She had been waiting for Chloe to, at least half-heartedly, continue the scene. But alas, Chloe was looking across the room at Jake. Again.

Christine let out a huff and looked back at her script. That seemed to draw Chloe's attention back to her.

"What?" Chloe said.

Christine snapped to attention. "Nothing."

Chloe raised an eyebrow. "Clearly you have something you want to say."

Christine met Chloe's eyes. There was no way Chloe was going to let it go, not until she got a satisfactory answer. Christine didn't think she had one of those. Not when all she had to say was criticism.

If you don't have something nice to say, then don't say it.

But Chloe was waiting.

"Well?"

Christine just shrugged and lowered her script. "Don't you think you could do better?"

Chloe: "I don't really give a crap about this script."

Christine: "Really. Couldn't tell. I mean about, y'know... Jake."

Chloe's eyes narrowed. Before she could say anything, Christine kept talking.

"You just never seem happy with him. You're always, I don't know, angry. Sad. You could do better than someone that makes you miserable all the time, even when you're not together."

Chloe was silent for a moment. She then let out a huff and turned away. "I didn't ask for a relationship analysis."

But maybe... Maybe Christine was right.

Did you have a specific ethnicity in mind for Beatrix? I assumed she was Latina but wasn’t sure if like, Mexican, Cuban, Ecuadorian, etc

Ooh — recently answered a similar q on my personal blog so here it is! You are right that Bea is Latina, and their nationality is not yet specified in the text since a lot of character identities were changing and malleable as we worked with the actors in the production process. (The writer’s working headcanon for Bea is that they are Ecuadorian, but it’s not set in stone yet/established in the show yet so it’s subject to change!)

At the start of the process, we knew Beatrix was nonwhite but we didn’t specify much else because we weren’t sure of our resources and pool of actors that would audition for Beatrix — as we found actors, we edited the script around their identities. (Another example of this is that Portia originally used she/they pronouns and Beatrix used she/her!) We want to pin down more solid nationalities for the characters in our next draft of the show, since we won’t have to keep things as flexible/amorphous casting-wise anymore once we are no longer writing for college theater.

Yeah, like...assuming Ford became aware of that incident at some point in their childhood, it'd be scarring for Ford, too. Because it tells Ford that if he doesn't keep up his grades, (gym not included I guess), that if he fails to meet Filbrick's expectations, that is the kind of thing that will happen to him.
