Biden Bids to Empower Consumers: The Right to Repair
Tumblr media
Empowering Consumers Through the Right to Repair
On October 24, 2023, the White House took a significant step by convening a roundtable discussion, bringing together federal and state officials, small business owners, and private sector leaders to shed light on the crucial concept of the "right to repair." At its core, the right to repair is a fundamental principle that grants individuals the autonomy to fix their possessions when they break, either on their own or by taking them to independent repair shops. This approach provides consumers with more options for repairing their devices, reduces costs, simplifies the repair process, and fosters healthy competition—a central component of President Biden's economic strategy, known as Bidenomics.   A Presidential Commitment Lael Brainard, Director of the National Economic Council, emphasized the significance of the right to repair in President Biden's consumer-centric agenda. She highlighted the importance of leveling the playing field for small independent repair businesses. The roundtable participants engaged in insightful discussions regarding the progress made since President Biden endorsed the right to repair through his Executive Order on Promoting Competition. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chair Lina Khan elucidated the advantages of competition in repair markets, underlining how it drives down costs and expands opportunities for small businesses. She also highlighted the FTC's bipartisan and unanimous enforcement policy, citing successful cases that have simplified the repair of a wide array of products, from grills to motorcycles.
Extending Product Lifecycle
Janet McCabe, Deputy Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), delved into how the right to repair extends the lifecycle of products. This not only reduces waste but also plays a pivotal role in combating climate change. She expounded on the EPA's efforts to promote the repairability of farm equipment, underscoring the environmental benefits of this approach.   State-Level Achievements The roundtable also featured a bipartisan group of state officials who recounted legislative accomplishments from the past year. These successes included the passage of right-to-repair legislation in California, Colorado, Minnesota, and New York. A farmer from Colorado and an independent repair shop owner from Minnesota shared how these legislative victories will lead to cost savings for consumers and farmers while simultaneously creating new opportunities for small businesses.
Industry Support for Right to Repair
Several businesses expressed their support for the new legislation during the roundtable. Apple, in particular, called for robust national right-to-repair legislation and announced its commitment to honoring the provisions of the recently enacted California right-to-repair law nationwide. This step is set to benefit consumers across all states. California's new law mandates manufacturers to provide the necessary parts, tools, and documentation to independent repair shops and consumers at fair and reasonable prices, thereby enhancing consumer choice and accessibility. Allstate Insurance also voiced its support for greater access to parts and independent repair options for vehicle repairs, emphasizing the potential for substantial cost savings.   Government Initiatives and State-Level Action Both the federal government and individual states have taken several steps to advance the right to repair across various industries: - The FTC voted unanimously to strengthen law enforcement of right-to-repair restrictions, ensuring that small businesses, workers, and consumers can exercise their right to repair. Settlements in multiple right-to-repair cases have already been announced. - The EPA affirmed its support for the right to repair and clarified its compatibility with Clean Air Act provisions, demonstrating the alignment of the right to repair with environmental laws. - A report from the EPA highlighted the hazards of improper disposal of lithium-ion batteries found in cellphones and laptops. The report emphasized that when batteries are easy to remove from consumer devices, it leads to longer product lifespans, reduced waste, and safer battery recycling. - The U.S. Copyright Office expanded exemptions to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act to provide greater access to diagnosis, maintenance, and repair capabilities. - Over 30 states have introduced right-to-repair legislation covering various sectors, with recent laws passed in Colorado, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and New York over the last three years. This roundtable signals a commitment to empowering consumers, reducing waste, and supporting small businesses through the right to repair—a crucial step toward a more competitive and sustainable future.   Sources: THX News & The White House. Importance of Protective Motorcycle Jackets
Riding a motorcycle can be a thrilling experience, but it also comes with risks. Motorcycle riders are more vulnerable to accidents and injuries compared to car drivers. Therefore, wearing protective gear, including a motorcycle jacket, is critical for safety.
Tumblr media
Protection from Injuries
A motorcycle jacket provides essential protection to the upper body, including the arms, chest, and back. In case of an accident, the jacket acts as a shield, protecting the rider's skin from abrasions, cuts, and bruises. It also reduces the impact of falls and prevents injuries to internal organs. Motorcycle jackets with armor on the elbows, shoulders, and back offer even greater protection from serious injuries.
Weather Protection
Motorcycle jackets are not just for protection during accidents; they also offer protection from the elements. During colder months, a jacket made from materials like leather or textile can keep the rider warm and comfortable. Some jackets also have a waterproof or water-resistant layer to protect the rider from rain or snow.
Improved Visibility
Motorcycle jackets are available in different colors, and some have reflective strips or logos. This reflective detailing makes the rider more visible to other drivers, especially during nighttime or low-light conditions. Improved visibility reduces the risk of accidents caused by other drivers who may not see the rider.
Comfort and Style
A good motorcycle jacket is not just about protection; it should also be comfortable and stylish. A well-fitted jacket made from high-quality materials will not only provide protection but also increase the rider's comfort during long rides. A stylish jacket can also make the rider feel confident and add to the overall riding experience.
Compliance with Safety Standards
When choosing a motorcycle jacket, it's essential to look for one that meets safety standards. In the US, motorcycle jackets are rated by the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Look for jackets that meet the safety standards set by these organizations to ensure maximum protection.
Durability
Motorcycle jackets are an investment, and therefore, it's important to choose one that is durable and long-lasting. Look for jackets made from high-quality materials like leather, textile, or Kevlar, which can withstand wear and tear. Check the stitching and the quality of the zippers to ensure they can handle the stress of regular use.
In conclusion, wearing a protective motorcycle jacket is critical for safety when riding a motorcycle. A good jacket should provide protection from injuries, and weather, and increase the rider's visibility. It should also be comfortable, stylish, and comply with safety standards. When choosing a jacket, prioritize durability and quality to ensure maximum protection during your rides.

Harley-Davidson tanulmányt készített a nők és a motorkerékpárok kapcsolatáról
Tumblr media
A Harley-Davidson tudja a választ. A nő motorkerékpárt akar. A Harley-Davidson női marketing igazgatója, Claudia Garber egyike ezeknek a női motorosoknak. Jobban érzed magad a bőrödben." Egyre több nő motorozik a világ minden részén. Bármit is tapasztalnak, a női motorosok számának növekedése a Harley-nak kedvez. A vállalat több motorkerékpárt ad el nőknek, mint az összes versenytársuk együttvéve, mondja Garber. “FIVE SHOT BY RED IN ANTI-JAP RIOT IN MICHIGAN AVE.,” Chicago Tribune. March 13, 1932. Page 3. ----- 3 Policemen and Woman Among Wounded. ---- A communist riot in which three policemen and two of the rioters were shot quickly dispersed in Michigan avenue yesterday. The mob had assembled for protest, to the Japanese consulate, which has offices in the Tribune Tower, against Japan’s activities in China.
Stephen Chuck, 765 West Van street, one of the communists, fired shots that wounded the woman agitator and her son. The wounded are: POLICEMAN RAYMOND EDDY, shot in the right groin. POLICEMAN FRANK BRESLIN, shot in the right thigh. SERGT. CHARLES KIEFER, shot in the right thigh. MRS. ANNA REJBA, 1820 Evergreen avenue, flesh wound on the abdomen. EDWARD REJBA, 17 years old, shot in the right hip.
The policemen, all members of the Lincoln Park force, were taken to the Passavant hospital. Their wounds were dressed and tetanus anti-toxin was administered by Dr. Irving S. Cutter. The woman communist and her son were treated at St. Elizabeth’s hospital and then locked up with more than 20 other rioters at the East Chicago police station.
Police Warned in Advance. Advance notices sent to newspapers and handbills circulated by the communists under the auspices of the Communist party, the Communist Young People’s league and the Unemployed council, said the purpose of the demonstration was to protest against ‘the atrocious crimes of the Japanese army and Japanese imperialism.’
Forewarned, 100 policemen from the detective bureau, the Chicago avenue station and the Lincoln Park force were waiting for the communists. The rioting occurred in front of the Wrigley building and 430 North Michigan Avenue and none of the demonstrators was permitted to cross to the east side of the street in the effort to reach the Japanese consulate.
Mounted policemen rode on to the sidewalk to drive the rioters south to the Michigan avenue bridge. Clubs and rubber hose were used on the heads of those who fought back at the police. Traffic was tied up in the boulevard for thirty minutes after the noting broke out, shortly after noon, and thousands of persons watched the fight from stalled automobiles and windows of office buildings.
Communist Plan Revealed. The plan of the communists, Edward J. Hargrave of the Hargrave Secret service learned, was for two or three persons to enter The Tribune Tower at a time and go up to the fifteenth floor, where the consulate is situated, carrying concealed banners and placards. Only one man, Spencer Brown, 562 East 51st street, a Negro, managed to enter the building some time before the rioting began. He was seized by policemen waiting in the Tower lobby and taken to the detective bureau, where he said he wanted to see Yoshio Muto, the Japanese consul. Papers found in his pockets showed him to be a communist.
The mob first assembled at State and Ohio streets, but was broken up there by motorcycle policemen. About 12:15 the demonstrators began gathering on the west side of Michigan avenue, coming in small groups from the east and the west and up the stairs from Illinois street and Austin avenue.
Driven Back By Police. A solid column, extending from Grand avenue to the link bridge, was formed. Banners, calling for a fight against "the robber war in China," were raised and the leaders called for an onslaught across the street. At this point undercover policemen of Lieut. Mike Mills' industrial squad, who had mingled with the communists, began using their rubber hose on the known agitators. The mounted police drove the mob south, toward the bridge.
In front of Grayling's restaurant, in the Wrigley building, Chuck pulled a .25 caliber automatic pistol and fired seven shots before he was felled with a club by Policeman J. J. Ryan of the Chicago avenue station. Police man Edward Malm grappled with the man when he tried to rise and took the gun away from him. He finally knocked unconscious by other policemen who came to the rescue of their fallen comrades. Bryant Moss, 3129 Clybourn avenue, sought to aid Chuck and he was clubbed to the ground. Both were taken to the Bridewell hospital with superficial injuries.
Several University of Chicago students participated in the demonstration and two of them were arrested. They were Walter Quinn, alias Kavin, 3621 University avenue, and Lawrence Skinner, 5739 Harper avenue. Skinner said he was born in China, the son of a minister. Both said they had learned of the demonstration only yesterday, at a students' league meeting.
Late last night the prisoners were booked on charges of disorderly conduct, assaulting a policeman and illegal assembly. Against Chuck an additional charge was made of assault to commit, murder in connection with the wounding of the policemen. Because several of those arrested are under age, all of the prisoners will be arraigned tomorrow morning in the Boys' court. Quinn and Skinner were released on bonds furnished by R. T. Miller Jr.. who gave his address as the Del Prado hotel and said he is a teacher.
Praise Police Efficiency. The efficiency and dispatch with which the policemen dispersed the mob were praised by Commissioner Allman.
Consul Muto issued a statement expressing his appreciation for the 'bravery, ability, and foresightedness of the Lincoln park and Chicago police.' Maj. James P. Sammis was in personal charge of the 25 uniformed men and four motorcycle policemen of the Lincoln park force. Capt. Michael Grady was in command of 24 uniformed men and eight motorcycle police from the East Chicago station. Lieut. Mills headed a squad of six men and there were four other detective squads under Sergts. Ray Crane, Ray Gilso, David Burke, and Frank Freemuth. Capt. Joseph O’Connell of the traffic detail headed the eight mounted police.
Anti-Jap Parade in New York. March 12. - (AP) - A group of some 300 young communists, about 50 of whom were women, staged a parade under police escort in the financial district at noon today. Red banners carried appeals to this country to force the Japanese to withdraw their troops from China and to block the ‘white-Jap attack on the Russian soviet.’ There was no excitement as the marchers, accompanied by 35 mounted police, moved up Broad street to Wall street through the heart of the financial district, and then turned on to Broadway, where they continued north toward city hall.
6,000 at Rioter's Funeral. Detroit, March 12. (AP) - Bearing banners denouncing Henry Ford and Mayor Murphy for instituting what they termed " police terror," approximately 6,000 persons today marched in the funeral procession of the four persons shot to death in Monday's riot at the Ford Motor company's River Rouge factory. The funeral services were held in the Workers' center on Ferry avenue, about two miles uptown. Then the marchers fell in behind the hearses and proceeded down Woodward avenue to Grand Circus park in the-center of the business district. Strong details of police were stationed along the parade route.
Photo captions: Top left:  General view of riot in Michigan avenue in which three policemen and two agitators were shot when communists attempted a demonstration against the Japanese consulate. The police are charging into the communists on the west side of the street.

#13 Spiderbyte
13. “i’m not saying i want a threesome- but i wouldn’t be opposed to it.”
Oh I like you, Anon.
----
Sombra tapped her foot on the floor of the Junkertown throne room and huffed. She and Widowmaker were dressed for the outback--sturdier gear, stylish, not explicitly Talon, but not exactly hiding it, either. She didn’t like to be kept waiting, especially when she knew there was likely no reason for the actual waiting and it was all probably a power-play. The ‘throne’ itself was merely a baroque chair, the gold finish on its frame either miraculously untouched by the ravages of the wasteland or painstakingly maintained, one leg of the chair was propped up by a cinderblock. Anyone styling themselves as a ‘queen’ of this pile of garbage was bound to be a piece of work.
She huffed. “No alliance is worth huffing diesel fumes this long,” she muttered under her breath.
“Mm,” Widowmaker was examining her nails.
“I mean, seriously, what does Talon get out of this?” said Sombra.
“You would know more about it than I,” said Widowmaker with a shrug.
“I mean, yeah, I kinda do,”said Sombra flicking a purple screen into existence, “And the truth is, it’s all just dogs fighting over scraps out here--I guess you could see it from a ‘Take one wildcard out of the equation’ angle but still---”
“It’s because Akande Ogundimu understands power,” a voice with a strine as sharp and broad as a machete cut through the smoky air of the room and a muscular woman with a high blue mohawk walked out of one of the corridors flanking the throne. She was well over 6 feet tall, made even taller by her heavy combat boots, her broad shoulders covered up by spiked and feathered pauldrons, but her arms were scarred and sun-worn and muscular. Her clothing was ragged but vivid, making her look like a flame with the way her mohawk and the feathers on her pauldrons and her scorched scarlet cape wafted underneath the massive industrial fans keeping the throne room cool. Her features were sharp, shrewd, with full lips pierced in the middle and a wide scar scoring one cheek. She jingled a bit as she walked, bullet belts shifting across her torso and a loop of motorcycle chain bouncing at her hips. A blaze of blood-red warpaint was streaked across her hazel eyes. She hefted a massive axe that Sombra swore had to be hewn down from a crusader hammer, and she carried it with ease. Sombra tried to maintain her unimpressed veneer, but the swagger was unmistakeable. Sombra gave a slight ‘holy shit’ glance to Widowmaker and one corner of Widowmaker’s mouth quirked up in amusement. Two guards, both covered in spiked piecemeal armor walked alongside her and to their places at either side of the throne. “He understands that the world Talon’s going to create, in its ‘transitional’ state at least...” she plopped herself into the throne, draping one leg over one of the arms, lazily, “It’s going to look a lot like mine. And you’re going to need people who know how to keep order.”
The Queen snickered a little and Sombra noticed that she had a gold canine clearly sharpened to a fang and gold-capped bicuspid as well, leaving a bright gleam in her smile. “And the thing is, I don’t need Talon to keep order in my Queendom. So the question that remains is, what can you offer me?”
“Well the question is what you want---” Sombra started.
“Guns,” said Widowmaker.
“Well, yes, that,” said Sombra.
“Lots of guns,” said Widowmaker, “And armor.”
“Food, Medical supplies, water, better filtration systems,” Sombra was counting on her fingers.
“Aw, you feel sorry for us? The poor wastelanders?” said the Junker queen, running her thumb along the edge of her axe, clearly bored.
“I just know that controlling those resources gives you even more power than guns,” said Sombra.
The Junker queen arched an eyebrow at her and Sombra felt a flutter of butterflies in her stomach. “Oh you are a wicked little thing, aren’t you?” said the Junker Queen.
“I’m just throwing ideas out there,” said Sombra with an airy wave of her arm.
“Petrol?” said the queen, arching an eyebrow.
“We have petrol,” said Widowmaker.
“And you’ll get a seat at the table, of course,” said Sombra, “That’s your end of the deal.”
“I’ve got a seat right here,” said the Junker Queen, patting the side of her throne, “Can’t have an absentee Queen, now can we?”
“Vid-com conferencing,” said Sombra, “It’s something we’ve got back in civilization? And with me you’ll have the most secure channel in the world.”
The Queen smirked at her. “Ahh so we’ll be up all night going ‘no you hang up first.’”
“Primary communications will likely be with the Talon high council and Doomfist himself,” said Widowmaker, flatly.
“Of course,” said the Queen with an eye roll.
“Your Majesty!” a Junker suddenly burst into the throne room and was met with both of the Queen’s guards lifting their rifles at him.
“Can’t you I’m busy, Scabwaxer?” said the Queen, gesturing at Widowmaker and Sombra.
“There’s... um... an issue in the Scrapyard, ma’am,” said Scabwaxer the Junker, cowering before her.
“Have one of the enforcers deal with it,” said the Queen.
“...it’s a challenge for the crown, Your Furiousness,” said the Junker, “He’s defeated two of your self-declared champions so by rule of threes...”
The Queen groaned and stood up and hefted up her axe over her shoulder, “Bloody Queendom’s right-- Why did I write that rule--Ever since the Wrecking Ball left, every bloody idiot thinks they can---” she muttered under her breath before glancing over at Widowmaker and Sombra, “I have to go take care of this. I’ll consider your offer and meet back up with you in a few hours with my answer”
“Understood,” said Widowmaker as the Queen walked out of the throne room.
“...can we go watch?” said Sombra.
“It’s literal bloodsports,” said Widowmaker.
“Yeah but she’s so... tall,” said Sombra, “You know how we said we’ll give each other a freebie?”
“I remember being further into Chateau Guillard’s wine cellars than was probably wise when we said that,” said Widowmaker, “But I know you, and I know that is not your freebie.”
“What if we both went in on it? Half-freebie??” said Sombra.
“You’re ridiculous,” said Widowmaker, snickering.
“So are we going to go watch the bloodsports or what?” said Sombra.
Widowmaker scoffed and hooked her arm in Sombra’s as they walked off after the Queen.

THE SAGA OF THE BLUE GOOSE:
February 20, 1937 was a day of glory in the short history of the Third Reich. It was the 50th anniversary of the Berlin Automobile Exhibition. To commemorate this day a brand new exhibition hall had been built for the forthcoming International Automobile Und Motorrad- Ausstellung for 1937. Dedication ceremonies were to be performed by the Fuhrer himself. As the opening time approached, a cavalcade of Grosser Mercedes Benz Offener Tourenwagens departed from the Reichchancellory traveling through the Brandenburg Gate along the Kaiserdamm. In the lead Mercedes with the top and all the windows in a down position sat Adolph Hitler in the right rear seat. To his immediate left sat Hermann Goering, Reichsmarschall of the Greater German Reich, President of the German Parliament (Reichstag), Commander of the German Air Force (Luftwaffe) and President of the Prussian Council of State. The weather was cloudy with a light snow from the night before still in evidence on the Kaiserdamm. Along Hitler's right side of the Mercedes admiring spectators stood on the sidewalks guarded by the police. On Goering's left side of the automobile was a formation of smartly aligned motorcycles with side cars manned by a Special Corps of Nazi party members standing at attention as the top leadership of the Third Reich headed to the new exhibition hall. At the intersection of Elizabeth Strasse the motorcade turned left and proceeded to Hall #1 where the lead Grosser Mercedes Benz pulled to a stop.
Immediately the Waffen SS adjutant riding in the front passenger seat smartly exited the Mercedes and then opened the right rear door for the Fuhrer and his first deputy, Hermann Goering. As the party gathered around the Fuhrer, the signal was given for the ceremonies to begin. Immediately the band started to play as the Fuhrer walked to the podium of the new hall. The music stopped; the Fuhrer was introduced with great applause. In his speech he spoke as if the world were his audience. Hitler said, "By the cutting of the ceremonial ribbon, Germany is again reclaiming its rightful position as an industrial might to be reckoned with in the years to come."
All the notables of the German automobile industry, including Director Wilhelm Kissel of Daimler Benz, A.G., were present to greet the Third Reich elite. It was during the tour of the Mercedes Benz 540K exhibit that Goering spotted again a Special Roadster, which he had previously ordered in the 500K series in 1935. For 1937 Mercedes Benz had enclosed the rear spare tire with a streamline metallic tire cover. Goering stopped and inquired how long it might take to build an additional Special Roadster with the larger 5.4 litre engine with more horsepower, but with certain unusual modifications. He wanted his new Special Roadster bullet proof and bomb resistive. He also wanted to enhance the driving range necessitating greater fuel capacity. Kissel agreed that these additions could be accomplished.
Being given this assurance Goering opened the driver's door and attempted to sit behind the steering wheel of the automobile. He immediately encountered a problem. His ever-increasing waistline encroached upon the lower portion of the steering wheel. An attempt to adjust the seat to a more backward position was not possible since the seat was back as far as it could go. Over the years, Goering had gone from a slim fighter pilot of World War I to an overweight condition in 1937. His 5'10" frame carried 220 pounds, much of it being attributed to the sumptuous meals at his country estate called Carinhoff located northeast of Berlin where the serving of food and wine never ceased. The estate was named after his first wife, Carin v. Kantzow, v. Fock.
Director Kissel, seeing the dilemma of Goering, turned to his assistant in charge of the 540K custom creations. After some discussion it was decided that the entire driver's compartment had to be enlarged primarily lengthwise. Assurance was given to the Reichsmarschall that Daimler Benz could make whatever changes he desired. Detailed specifications would be given to him after the design team drew up a new set of plans. Lastly Goering said that his Special Roadster had to be painted in Aviation Blue, a metallic sky blue color as was on his present 500K Mercedes Special Roadster. Arrangements were made for finalizing the purchase. Goering concluded the discussion with the customary, "Heil Hitler" and then rejoined the other dignitaries as they journeyed through the exhibition halls.
Goering, inspecting his new creation at the Caracciaola Mercedes Benz Agency in Berlin in mid July of 1937, was ecstatic. (Rudy Caracciola was the lead Mercedes Benz Grand Prix race driver during the 1930s.) The color of the metallic Aviation Blue was stunning. Goering with his own motorcycle escort had to test his new exotic toy to feel the increased power of the 540K supercharge engine developing 180 horsepower. On to the autobahn with his left hand blue lens spot light glowing he pressed the accelerator to the floor kicking in the screaming supercharger. With his eyes alternating between the passing countryside and the speedometer he gleamed with pleasure as the speedometer needle swung near 160 KM per hour. Returning to the Mercedes Benz agency he declared to Caracciola and the Mercedes Benz Design team representative that his new Mercedes was a resounding success.
During the winter of 1940/1941 Goering had the Special Roadster sent back to Daimler Benz A.G. to the Sindelfingen plant for a repaint. The metallic light blue paint had faded and become quite dull. The technology worldwide on metallic paints in the late 1930's was still in its infancy. He had the Special Roadster repainted a darker blue with less metallic additive upon the advice of the Mercedes Benz design development.
Goering indicated that his increasing weight now in excess of 260 pounds was causing him a problem with his stomach encroaching upon the lower part of the steering wheel. The tension of the war and the lack of success of the air war in the Battle of Britain in the autumn of 1940 led to his disfavor with the Fuhrer. To overcome this increased tension Goering took to an eating orgy. The lack of room for his belly was remedied by reducing the thickness of the driver's rear seat cushion by four inches. Satisfied, Goering then had the Special Roadster sent to his country home in Berchtesgaden in the Obersalzberg area at the base of the Alps where it stayed for the duration of the war. A short distance away Hitler had built a beautiful country home called the Berghof. To the east of these homes Hitler also had a mountain top retreat called the Eagle’s Nest built on an Alpine peak overlooking the magnificent Alps Mountains.
THE RISE OF HERMANN GOERING IN THE THIRD REICH
Hermann Goering was born in Bavaria on January 12, 1893, making him four years younger than Adolph Hitler. His father, Heindrich, was a haughty German colonial official serving the majority of his life in Africa as an embassy official. Hermann's mother Franziska (Fanny) was twenty years younger than her husband, who had four children by his late first wife. Fanny gave her husband Heinrich five more; Hermann was the second oldest of the five children. During the diplomatic career of his father, Goering had befriended an Austrian Jew, Hermann von Epenstein, who became the godfather to all the second batch of Goering children. Epenstein had used his wealth to purchase sexual favors from Fanny. The Goerings lived in Epenstein's castle in Franconia near
Nurenberg. Hermann's mother became the mistress of Epenstein quite openly. The bizarre triangle no doubt gave the future Reichsmarschall mixed character values, which were manifested later during the years when Goering made and executed policies for the Third Reich.
It was in his secondary education at a military cadet school that the listless adolescent Hermann came alive. From being nearly a failing student in primary school, he now excelled in all of his activities as a cadet. After graduation he entered the army. Shortly thereafter World War I broke out in August of 1914; Goering was sent immediately to the front. As an army officer, trench warfare was not suited to his health. In a short time he had severe attacks of rheumatism.
While hospitalized he became enthralled by the air war. Through military connections he got himself transferred to the Imperial Air Service. During the years of the war Goering distinguished himself in air combat earning the coveted blue enamel cross of the Pour Le Merite, [the "Blue Max"] near the conclusion of World War I. Goering took over the most famous air squadron of the war. It had been led by the legendary Manfred von Richthofen, the Red Baron, who was killed in action in early 1918. After his successor was also killed shortly thereafter in action, Goering took control of the squadron on July 14, 1918, five months before the end of the war.
Since Germany's army and air service were still intact when the war ended on Nov. 11, 1918, much of the military felt that they had not been defeated. Peace came by the Versailles Peace Treaty concluded in June 1919, but at a terrible price to Germany. In essence the treaty laid the ground work for World War II twenty years later. The Germans had agreed to an armistice based upon U.S. President Woodrow Wilson 14 point peace proposal, but the final result was a totally vindictive treaty in which the Germans saw their future existence torn asunder.
Goering as well as many of his former comrades-in-arms, perceived this quandary. With no money and no job Goering joined former members of the Richthofen Squadron to form a flying circus in Denmark. Still seeking new pursuits he joined the newly formed Swedish airline Svenska Lufttrafik. This endeavor brought him into contact with his future wife, the sister-in-law of Count Eric von Rosen, a client of Goering. Countess Carin v. Kantzow v. Fock was already married and had one child by her officer husband. Carin was bored with him and life in general. She was eager for adventure and a new romance. From the moment Carin met this handsome German aviator at the von Rosen estate romantic sparks flew back-and-forth between the two. In a short period of twenty-four hours their destinies intertwined until her premature death of tuberculosis in 1931. Their adulterous affair was a public scandal in the conservative capital of Stockholm. In time Carin was granted a divorce giving up all rights to a compliant husband as well as renouncing all rights to her inheritance. Hermann and Carin were married in Germany and shortly thereafter Goering entered the University of Munich. But the atmosphere of university life in 1922 was not about academics as much as political activism of righting the wrongs of the Versailles Peace Treaty.
In 1922 Goering, who himself was trying to raise a small political party of ex-officers, heard shouts for Herr Hitler to speak in Munich's Konigsplatz. From that moment Goering's star became attached to Hitler's destiny. Hitler, sensing Goering's elite class and military status, made him a key ingredient in the newly formed National Socialist Workers Party. Yet he nearly lost his life in an attempted coup d'etat in the infamous Munich Beer Hall Putsch of 1923. Hitler was captured and sent to prison; Goering was shot in the groin trying to escape. With the help of his wife he was secreted out of
Germany to Austria where he recovered from his wound. But in his rehabilitation process he acquired a terrible morphine addiction used to control the pain of his wound. Throughout the course of his life he suffered from various forms of drug addiction.
It was in the late 1920s that the German government gave a pardon to the leadership of the National Socialist Workers Party. Hitler was given his freedom while the arrest warrant for Goering was quashed. Goering returned to Germany and with Hitler as its leader the Nazi movement was reborn. The stock market crash in October, 1929 had a drastic economic effect on Germany. As the 1930s started, the rise of Hitler and the National Socialists surged to power. As this was happening Carin became critically ill from tuberculosis and died in 1931, two full years before her husband reached his zenith of power.
Through a strictly legitimate process the Nazis obtained control of the German parliament in 1933 with Goering assuming the position as President of the Reichstag. From that point of time the material fortunes of Goering flourished. The good life followed. In 1935 Goering married a second time to the German movie actress, Emmy Sonnenann, in an ostentatious wedding which would have rivaled the royal weddings of Europe. Hitler was his best man.
The wealth, which came to the Reichsmarschall in his new position of economic governance, gave him a sense of self-importance accompanied by an opulent and materialistic life style. Everything he wanted could be obtained by his power and wealth. His taste for flamboyancy could be seen in his many daily clothing changes of sparkling custom designed uniforms employing an abundance of gold braid. Where Hitler in his mannerisms appeared to be severe and dogmatic, Goering reveled in hearing the German people shout "Hermann, Hermann." In his own mind the German people idolized him without detracting from their loyalty to their Fuhrer.
But war can and did bring a change of fortunes. In the later part of World War II, when Goering realized that the great German offensive of the Ardennes of 1944 had failed, in what Americans refer to as the Battle of the Bulge, he started to prepare himself, his personal finances and accumulated art treasures for Germany's final demise.
On April 16, 1945 the final Russian offensive on Berlin started. On April 19th Goering moved his banking assets from the Berlin banks to his personal bank account at Bayerische Bank in Berchtesgaden. As midnight approached he made his way to Hitler's bunker to wish him an early happy birthday shortly after midnight on the morning of April 20th. The Fuhrer demanded that he still be available at the midday briefing. At this briefing, Goering was given command of the forces in Southern Germany by Hitler. At the conclusion of the briefing Goering asked, "Mein Fuhrer, I presume you have no objection to my leaving for the Obersalzberg right away to be closer to my troops?" "Do what you want" snapped Hitler. Leaving Hitler's presence Goering had a short and strained conversation with Heinrich Himmler, chief of the SS about Hitler's successor. As darkness fell, an air raid of RAF Mosquito bombers appeared over Berlin. Instead of staying in Hitler's private bunker, he decided to go to the nearest civilian air raid shelter. After the all- clear was sounded he immediately left for the Kurfurst Hotel in central Berlin, where Goering and his staff had a temporary residence. On the early morning of April 21, Goering's convoy of five cars laden with his staff and luggage headed toward Berchtesgaden. Goering in an armor plated Grosser Mercedes was accompanied by his personal chauffeur, his man servant and his nurse who had control of his medicine case. The convoy traveled south through the gap being closed on the east by the Russians and on the west by the Americans. The convoy arrived at 11:00 AM at his Obersalzberg villa,
which was crowded with his wife, daughter, his wife's sister, Goering's sister, Paula, and a host of nieces and nephews. Goering had already sent six railroad cars of his art collection and objects d’art to the area for safe keeping several weeks before. His trip before Berlin fell was as much to ensure that his personal finances and art works were being properly safeguarded, as well as to save his life from the barbaric Russians. The war was far less active in the Obersalzberg area than in Berlin. For the next few days he enjoyed some peace until American bombers rained havoc on the homes of the Nazi elite on the night of April 25th. Sensing the danger of an air raid, Goering pulled up stakes beforehand and headed to his Fischhorn Castle near Zell am See, located about thirty miles south of Berchtesgaden.
On April 30th, the Fuhrer ended his life. Grand Admiral Karl Doenitz announced the death of the Fuhrer at 10 PM on the evening of the 1st of May. He also announced to the German people that the Fuhrer had appointed him as his successor. This was small consolation to Goering when he heard the news since he now sensed his capture was imminent.
Following the death of its leader the various German armies started surrendering to the Allies. On the evening of the 7th of May American forces under Brigadier General Robert I. Stack of the 36th Infantry Division came upon the Goering entourage and took him prisoner. Stack suggested that Goering and his family spend the night at Fischhorn Castle near Zell am See before returning to the American lines the next day. For Reichschancellor Hermann Goering the war had come to an end.
Following his capture he was briefly interrogated in the Bavarian war zone. By mid May he was taken to a series of internment centers ending up in October in Nuremberg, Germany where he was tried for war crimes against humanity at the Palace of Justice the following year. He was found guilty on October 1, 1946 and sentenced to die on October 15, 1946. A few minutes before he was taken from his prison cell for execution by hanging, he committed suicide by taking cyanide. His remains were cremated and his ashes were spread over the infamous Dachau concentration camp area, the first camp of its type, which he had authorized as President of the Reichstag in 1933.
THE CAPTURE OF THE MERCEDES BENZ 540K SPECIAL ROADSTER
Captain Joe Crilley, a solider of the 326 Engineering Company of the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army approached the picturesque town of Berchtesgaden, Germany with his fighting unit on May 4th, 1945. By now the fighting had dropped off dramatically. Crilley knew the war was coming to an end. Yet he had no idea how rapidly events were unfolding in Berlin, following the suicide death of Hitler the previous Monday, April 30th, ten days after Hitler’s fifty-sixth birthday. Crilley had successfully maneuvered his company through the village with no encounter with German forces. Many homes had white flags hanging. However the lack of a firefight did not mean that the Nazi elite were not holed up in the Eagle’s Nest retreat following a possible retreat from Berlin.
Crilley knew instinctively that the area surrounding the Eagle’s Nest could be heavily fortified with Hitler’s personal guard of Waffen SS storm troupers willing to fight to the death. The question perplexing the 101st Airborne Division was whether the Nazi leadership had fled Berlin and was now holed up in his mountain retreat. As Crilley’s engineering company approached the demolished homes of the Nazi’s at the base of the Alps, no evidence of enemy troops was sighted. Near the damaged homes stood the Waffen SS housing compound as well as its adjacent garage.
Anticipating a fire fight, Crilley ordered his company to spread out. But no enemy was sighted. The garage was surrounded and then entered by American troops. Inside were two magnificent Mercedes Benz automobiles side by side on the brick floor. Both cars had splattered mud over their exterior bodies but otherwise appeared in good condition.
Crilley turned to Staff Sergeant Robert Smiley and said “Check them out.” The first of the two cars was the Goering 540K Special Roadster. The Roadster sat with the fixed windows in their up position, but with the top down in its concealed compartment. The other car was a black Grosser Mercedes Offener Tourenwagon.
Smiley approached the Special Roadster first with a degree of caution. He knew the Germans were notorious for setting booby traps for unsuspecting American soldiers seeking souvenirs. Taking no chances he took aim at the driver’s window in the up position and fired his weapon. Then he fired a second time leaving a 45 caliber hole in the left fender. The first bullet did not penetrate the bulletproof glass, but it left a large star mark. To the relief of Smiley the weapon assault on the Goering Special Roadster did not signify a potential booby trap. Smiley then surveyed the Grosser Mercedes. Going back to the Special Roadster, to his amazement, he found the keys in its ignition. Crilley then barked out a command, “See if it runs.” Smiley opened the driver’s door and cautiously placed his athletic body behind the steering wheel. He quickly surveyed the instrument panel. He took a deep breath; then he said a quick prayer. Smiley turned the key to the “on” position; then he hit the starter button. After a few unsuccessful attempts the Mercedes roared to life again with a heavy growl coming from the exhaust pipe. The liberation of the Goering Special Roadster was now complete, all at the hands of the American Armed Forces.
Captain Crilley, realizing that there was work still to be done, called his soldiers back in battle formation and proceeded up the road to the elevator base for the Eagle’s Nest. Crilley found the elevator disabled. (This damage also had been done by the American bombers on April 25th.) He did not attempt to go to the top of the Alpine Peak. Several days later, he did manage to make a foray to the Eagle’s Nest. But to his surprise, he found that his unit was not the first of the Allies to reach to the Eagle’s Nest. This had been accomplished by a small detachment of French and Moroccan forces, which had entered through Berchtesgaden from another direction, as the Americans were simultaneously entering the village. They got to the Eagle’s Nest first and confiscated any war booty which they could get their hands on.
Orders then came from above telling the American forces to secure the area and hold up their advance as the war was winding down. On the day that Captain Crilley had captured the two prized Mercedes, the German High Command surrendered to British Field Marshall Montgomery all German forces in North West Germany, Denmark and Holland. On May 5th, Admiral Hans Von Friedeburg, the new Commander in Chief of the German Navy, arrived at General Eisenhower’s headquarters at Reims to negotiate surrender terms. In a little red schoolhouse at Reims where Eisenhower had made his headquarters, Germany unconditionally surrendered at 2:41 AM on the morning of May 7th, 1945. The war in Europe was over.
In Berchtesgaden Captain Crilley’s 326 Engineering Company received the news with profound relief. Now with time on their hands, they made an exploration of the Fuhrer’s retreat. The enterprising American 101 Airborne soldiers found in the basement of the Waffen SS garage a cachet of French Cognac and choice French wines.
Before long the two Mercedes, after being cleaned by their new "owners," were being driven all over the village of Berchtesgaden by the 101st Airborne celebrating the end of the war in Europe with bottles of Cognac helping to east the pain of previous battles. The exploits of the 326th Engineering Company soon reached higher ups. Word soon came down from above from General Ryan himself for the two Mercedes to be parked.
When Major General Maxwell Taylor, overall theater commander, saw the "Hitler" 540K Special Roadster a few days later, he thought it would make a great command car. He then turned to his adjutant and said, “Put my two star license plate on the Blue Goose, the name which Captain Crilley and his fighting force had given to the Special Roadster.
The command car status did not last long for General Taylor. In August, he received orders of reassignment as the new Superintendent of West Point Military Academy. At the same time, word was received from the United States Treasury Department that these two prized possessions of Hitler’s would be a great draw in war bond rallies back home. There was still a war to be fought and won in the Pacific. Captain Crilley was approached by Command to tour the United States with the two Mercedes along with soldiers from his 101st airborne outfit. He turned the assignment down; Crilley had another agenda and it was getting out of the army as soon as possible and coming back home and getting married. But Second Lieutenant James Cox, who served in Crilley’s outfit, had fallen in love with the Special Roadster. Cox volunteered for the special assignment. Actually Cox had tried to buy the Blue Goose from the American authorities. He had money available from family resources back home. But the army said “no” to the purchase, seeing that the greater good was a war bond tour throughout the United States with Hitler’s cars as a major attraction. In August of 1945 the two Mercedes Benz and a small contingent of the 101st Airborne received orders to depart for the U.S. with Second Lieutenant James Cox in charge of safeguarding the two prized automobiles.
THE BLUE GOOSE COMES TO THE UNITED STATES The Special Roadster and the Mercedes Benz Grosser 770 Offener Tourenwagon
received a shipping order issued on September 10, 1945 by the Headquarters US Forces, European Theater indicating that these two automobile war trophies would be sent to the states accompanied by a contingent of ten men and an officer from the 101st Airborne Division. Although the original thinking was that these two Mercedes belonged to Hitler, it was later determined that the Special Roadster belonged to Hermann Goering since it sported a crest of his coat of arms on the doors. Hitler did not use a coat of arms. Subsequent supporting purchase documents verified this conclusion. Two short tours were made with the Blue Goose, both being after the war had ended.
In August 1946 the first reunion of the 101st Airborne Division was held in Indianapolis, Indiana with the Blue Goose on hand for the reunion. Anton (Tony) Hulman, owner of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Motor Speedway, invited the 101st Airborne Division to bring the Blue Goose to the race tracks for a few laps pacing two special trophy races of three cars each. Tony Hulman drove the Blue Goose around the famous track pacing the three Indy race cars to a flying start. Major General Maxwell Taylor was on hand to view his old command car. With the war over the Blue Goose was retired from active war bond rallies and placed in storage.
In 1956 the Goering Special Roadster ended up as surplus government property and was auctioned off by the Property Disposal Branch, Logistics Division, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. An auction was held of the two Mercedes on October 5, 1956. The bid description read, "MERCEDES-BENZ Convertible Roadster (Several informational
sources indicate that this car was the private sporty car of Hermann Goering and have identified the heraldic design on the doors as Goering's assumed coat-of-arms.) Acq. Cost Unknown. USED." The high bid was $2167 and it was awarded to Jacques Tunick of Greenwich, Connecticut.
THE BITGOOD ERA OF THE BLUE GOOSE The purchase of the Blue Goose by Dr. George E. Bitgood, Jr, from Jacques Tunick
in 1958 had to a degree been pre-ordained in an unspoken meeting of Sea Merchantman George Bitgood, Jr and the future Deputy Reichsfuhrur of Germany, Hermann Goering, in a chance encounter in a tavern in Stockholm, Sweden.
George Bitgood, Jr, who always had a love of the sea, joined the United States Merchant Marine in his late teens, with the blessings of his father and uncle, who were noted veterinarians in the New England area.
Born in 1904, Bitgood signed-up for a six-year tour of duty in 1921 in New London, Connecticut. His ambition was someday to be the captain of his own ship. However this was not to be since he acquired a partial hearing loss while serving in the Merchant Marines, thus precluding him from continuing his sea-life ambition.
It was early 1922 while sailing the Trans Atlantic route that his ship docked in Stockholm, Sweden. While on shore leave he went to a local tavern where he found a rather large crowd gathered around a German-speaking man “holding court” with many admirers. There was much singing, laughter and drinking. Bitgood asked the owner of the tavern, “Who’s the German?” The owner said, “Why, that’s Herman Goering the famous German air ace from the “Great War”!” Bitgood was fascinated by the persona of Goering. He felt a reluctance to speak to him because of the language barrier. As he was about to leave the tavern, he couldn’t resist going over to the corner where Goering was entertaining his court of admirers to get a closer look. Bitgood caught Goering’s eye and for just a few split seconds Goering smiled back at the young American. That moment in time would leave a lasting impression on the future Dr. Bitgood leading him eventually to own the famous Blue Goose of Herman Goerings’ once it was offered for sale to him by Jacque Tunick of Greenwich, Connecticut for about $10,000. Both Bitgood and Goering left Stockholm shortly thereafter. Bitgood continued as a seaman in the Merchant Marines. Goering along with his mistress, Carin von Fock (later his wife), went to Bavaria, Germany in the spring of 1922, where shortly thereafter he entered the University in Munich to study economic history.
Leaving the service of the Merchant Marines in 1930, George Bitgood, Jr. then followed in his father’s and uncle’s footsteps and entered Ontario Veterinarian College at the University of Toronto in 1931. He graduated in 1935. Dr. Bitgood, affectionately known as “Doc” by everyone, was totally dedicated to his profession. He was on call twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. In the course of sixty-three years he never took a vacation.
Although dedicated to veterinarian medicine, he also had a passion for exotic cars in a very private way. During the years of World War II, the great custom and luxury cars of the 1930s and earlier were selling for near scrap metal prices. With gasoline rationing in effect during the war years, three gallons of gas per car, per week were allowed by the government. In the 1940s Bitgood started as a hobby buying, selling and trading what were to be referred to in the post war years as the great automobile classics.
In 1949 he purchased Jack Warner’s (of Warner Brothers Movie Studios) 1937 Mercedes Benz 540K Special Roadster from Dr. Sam Scher, a noted plastic surgeon with
offices on Park Avenue in New York City. Bitgood later purchased a second 540K Special Roadster from Dr. Scher.
Then he acquired the Blue Goose. Once Bitgood turned his attention to the Mercedes Benz 500K and 540K series, he left the hobby as a trader and seller and turned his attention as an accumulator of these prized Mercedes automobiles. Over the years his pre-war Mercedes Benz collection reached 14 of these magical automobiles, of which four were Special Roadsters.
Bitgood, upon acquiring the Goering Special Roadster, had it repainted black. Many of the chrome pieces were re-chromed. Where Goering had his coat-of-arms painted on each door, Bitgood had the doors painted over. He had two brass plates fabricated with engraved swastikas and had each attached to a door. However, he did not have the bullet hole repaired in the fender nor did he replace the damage glass in the left driver’s window with new bulletproof glass.
Only once did Dr. Bitgood display the Goering Special Roadster. The event was in 1973 in Durham, Connecticut for the Durham County Fair. Bitgood had a large banner made up advertising the famous World War II trophy. For twenty-five cents the people of Durham could feast their eyes on the Blue Goose
After the Durham Fair, Bitgood contacted the 101st Airborne Division located in Fort Campbell, Kentucky concerning bringing the Blue Goose to a reunion in 1974. However the reunion was never realized since Bitgood was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma and subsequently had his kidney removed. Even during the six weeks of resulting radiation, Dr. Bitgood continued to work in his clinic. His health returned and he continued to practice with the help of his wife, who acted as his surgical assistant and bookkeeper for 55 years. She died in April 1993 after suffering from a long illness. Bitgood, now 88 years of age, was devastated by her death. A few months later he, himself, had additional surgery, and shortly thereafter passed away.
When Doctor Bitgood’s daughters heard that the 101st Airborne Division was planning to build a new museum at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, they was eager to fulfill their father’s dream of a reunion of the Blue Goose being reunited with the remaining veterans of World War II. After receiving the Blue Goose out of probate, Jim Champion, Executor of the Bitgood Estate and son-in-law of Dr. Bitgood asked Chris Charlton of Classic Car Services of Oxford, Maine to prepare the car for the 101st Airborne Reunion at Fort Campbell, Kentucky in June, 2002. Upon completion of the work, Charlton had the Special Roadster shipped to Fort Campbell, Kentucky. The initial reunion scheduled by Dr. Bitgood in 1973, but never accomplished, now took place.
Champion had discussions with the Bitgood family about doing a private showing of the car at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. In the meantime several offers were received all of which envisioned a full restoration of the Blue Goose. All potential buyers were interested in doing a complete restoration rather than preserving the unique history of the car as it was first discovered by the 101st Airborne Division in May 1945.
Dr. Bitgood had a strong sense of the historical significance of the capture of the Blue Goose as well as Goering’s ownership. He was inclined not to do a full restoration of the car; rather he wished to preserve the automobile except for the color being changed from Aviation Blue to black.
Eventually a buyer from Sweden was found that would fit the unique requirement of preserving the Blue Goose in all of its historical significance. Jim Champion’s wife, Annette, saw the potential new owner from the second story window of her home. He had just flown in from Europe.
The European gentleman which Annette saw was Jan Kanevad of Carnlough International Limited of Guernsey, Great Britain. The Trust as part of its assets maintains a unique but small collection of highly desirable collectible automobiles. For the past five years the Trust had been seeking an authentic but un-restored Mercedes Benz Special Roadster. When Jan Kanevad laid his eyes on the Goering Mercedes, a deal was shortly struck with the Bitgood estate. Upon the recommendation of Champion, Classic Auto Services was contacted again as a potential restoration shop which could perform the task of a preservation/ restoration of the Special Roadster. Contact was then made with Charlton by Kanevad followed by a personal interview on location. A decision was made to bring the Goering Special Roadster back to the condition when it was found by the 101st Airborne Division on May 4, 1945 with the restoration/ preservation being performed by Classic Auto Services. Once that decision was made; the Blue Goose was shipped back to Oxford, Maine.
THE PRESERVATION/ RESTORATION OF HERMANN GOERING'S MERCEDES BENZ 540K SPECIAL ROADSTER
In many respects a preservation/ restoration of a classic car sixty-five years of age is much different than a straight-out body-off restoration which creates the illusion of a brand-new showroom condition automobile. The instructions from the Carnlough International Limited Trust were to recreate the Special Roadster to May 4, 1945 as the 101st Airborne Division took custody of the Special Roadster. The 45 caliber hole in the left fender as well as the large star in the left door window glass were both to be left intact. All leather was to be retained since it still appeared to be in fair to good condition. Any new paint which had to be applied, had a dulling agent added to make it blend into the original paint. A consistency of age/ quality of all parts in harmony one to the other is the qualifying factor of a preservation/ restoration process. Since this was not a body-off preservation/ restoration, the Blue Goose is probably the most original 540K Special Roadster in existence today.
EPILOGUE
The Goering 540K Mercedes Benz Special Roadster is a historical contradiction in values. It has remarkable finish not seemingly overdone. It appears to be a hands-on car ready to move out without fear of being soiled. One can visualize Major General Maxwell Taylor driving around Germany in this beauty in contrast to the very few cars on the roads of Germany at the end of World War II. But the bigger contradiction is the damage done to the Special Roadster by the 101st Airborne Division when it was captured. On lookers will no doubt ask about the bullet hole in the fender and the bullet star in the driver's side window glass. Many will wonder why subsequent owners never had the Special Roadster returned to the Goering original ownership condition. Moving a historical piece out of a wartime setting to a Concours d'Elegance field where perfection is the norm will no doubt befuddle many an onlooker. If the Goering Mercedes Benz 540K Special Roadster makes one think of the great price the Allies paid for the freedom of Europe, then the preservation/ restoration of this historical Mercedes Benz will have served its purpose.
It is the intent and wish of the present owners that this unique piece of history be preserved in its present condition. They hope that today’s generations might have a greater appreciation of the cost and sacrifice which war brings after having viewed the
preserved Goering Mercedes Benz 540K Special Roadster, nicknamed by the American soldiers “The Blue Goose”. Time will tell.
ps - the pic with the 2 stars and the USA license plate are from General Maxwell Taylor who commissioned, owned and drove the car around southern Germany following the war...

Hydrogen-powered aircraft
Which is better, the plane or the train?
The plane pollutes more, but it’s faster, more convenient and cheaper than the train. Trains are expensive in terms of infrastructure and space: stations, rails, track maintenance, etc. Oil lobbies compete with nuclear lobbies.
Yet aviation and ecology can be reconciled. Hydrogen-powered aircraft pollute less than trains.
The possibility of traveling long distances has opened people’s minds. The benefits are a hundred times greater than the drawbacks. International trade and tourism make for greater peace. We mustn’t limit travel, but evolve to make it less polluting.
People love individual cars and motorcycles. They allow people to move around without constraints. It’s progress, it’s freedom. The biggest polluters are large vehicles like container ships, power plants and big trucks. Why not make them run on hydrogen?
We need scientific public research into transport energies. If we hadn’t done research in the 19th century, there’d be no more wood. The hydrogen industry is still in its infancy. Today, it’s the oil companies that are doing the hydrogen research. All they think about is putting technological advances to bed.
We have more than enough power to produce hydrogen from wind turbines and photovoltaic panels when they are in overproduction (they are currently shut down). Electricity from overproduction could be sent to a water reservoir to produce hydrogen by electrolysis. This would make it possible to produce large quantities of hydrogen.

New Rules:
you have a personal debt to settle with one of the members and decide to do so in the only way you both know how: after-school dance battle
you’re both professional racecar drivers and meet up at nights to race each other around the track for practice. problem is, neither of you can ever agree on who won
he’s the student council president. you’re the national honor society president. both of you want your club to be in charge of the winter formal and start an inter-club prank war to get the better of the other and win
he smokes and you’ve been desperately trying to get him to quit by replacing his cigarette packets with industrial sized bags of lollipops
you get matching tattoos
9 and Three Quarters (Run Away)
he found a stray animal and kept it as a pet in your shared apartment. it’s weeks until you realize that whatever that thing is, it isn’t a dog
your best friend is marrying his. you’re the maid/man of honor, he’s the best man. you hate each others’ guts... or at least you think you do
it’s midnight and you’re wandering the halls of your boarding school until he pulls you into a storage closet and tells you to be quiet
you take a road trip with the boys
Roller Coaster
it’s 1978 and you both have the hair to match
you guys are new age ghostbusters and are exploring an abandoned amusement park and literally everything possible goes wrong
he holds his birthday party at a roller rink because for some reason he thinks you’re really good at roller skating and wants to impress you. neither of you know how to roller skate
your respective friend groups dared you each to spend the night on an apartment complex rooftop. neither of you know that all of your friends coordinated to force you guys to be alone together for a whole night. for some reason it doesn’t cross either of your minds until the very end
he tries to win you one of those huge animals at the state fair but you end up winning it for him
Poppin’ Star
it’s summer and you’ve spent every single day at the pool because the new lifeguard is quite possibly the cutest guy ever... that is, until, one day, his best friend sits in for him and you realize that said best friend is even cuter and for some reason easier for you to approach
he works at a boba tea shop and makes you try the special every time you walk in even though you already have a drink you swear by
it’s 3 a.m. and you two have a group project due by the start of first period so you’ve been on skype for 7 hours already. somehow, only half of your project is done so far
you take a hot air balloon ride with him mid-summer and it’s where he officially asks you to go out with him
you find out that you’re allergic to lemon-lime soda in the worst possible way and he’s the only one there to witness it
Can’t We Just Leave The Monster Alive?
you’re freshly graduated and living in new york city in a super small but still beautiful apartment. you strike up a great conversation at your local coffee shop with the guy who, as it turns out, has moved into the apartment right under yours
it’s halloween and you swear the same guy has come to your door dressed in like 5 different costumes already. turns out he’s the cute one from the back of your math class who’s trying to win a bet with his friends
you’re both famous youtubers and switch channels for a week for fun
he does slam poetry about everyday items and you can’t help but fall in love after he writes an artistic diss track about your least favorite vegetable
Magic Island
you guys have been broken up for a bit and your friend signs you up for one of those youtube series that are like “a broken up couple talks about their relationship”
one of you is in the armed forces and the other is so torn up over deployment that they don’t go to see their s/o ship off
you work at a flower shop and he’s your best friend so you help him make bouquets for his s/o even though you’re madly in love with him
he’s a movie star and you’re an extra on set but he finds you insanely cute and asks one of his friends on the crew to get your number for him
20cm
he’s a greaser and you’re a soc. do i really have to say anything else
you’re his tutor but he can’t learn shit from you because he spends an inordinate amount of time just staring at random facial features of yours he finds insanely cute. it’s flattering but you want him to pass so you make him learn from someone else... though you do promise him a date
you’re professional ballroom dancers and each others partners
he gets his motorcycle license and shows up outside your place at 11 p.m. the same day to take you on a tour of the city. you both end up at the place you first met
he’s 20 centimeters taller than you and finds it so insanely funny that he, as yearbook editor, puts ‘20cm’ almost imperceptibly small in the very corner of your senior year picture
you meet under the stars
Angel or Devil
you’re an angel, he’s a devil, and you’re both assigned to the same person (or vice versa - you’re a devil, he’s an angel). you argue with each other to the point where your person starts ignoring both of you, and that’s when you decide to band together to get your person to listen to you again
he steals a loaf of bread from your bakery but you can’t be mad because you realize it’s to feed street orphans. that, and you realize pretty quickly that he’s actually the prince, no matter how much he tries to disguise himself
you’re medical interns and neither of you have slept in what has to be 3 days at the very least. you fall asleep on him while you’re both supposed to be taking a 10 minute break and he doesn’t want to wake you so he distributes your patients among any interns that pass you guys by
you call someone to fix your microwave and he’s the one they send

Chapter 1: Body/Prison
Seoul, 2113
Outside always smelt metallic.
The boisterous sounds from the illuminated highway. The tall-as-the-sky buildings. The ever changing holographic ads, displaying in the walls whatever was in vogue. - A new Tesla car. A haute couture brand. - Everything that could satisfy the frivolousness from those living at the highest district. A simulation of a perfect world. A world with perfect looking people, perfect hairstyles and makeup, perfect clothes, perfect homes. Everything was good. Everyone was happy.
The lone figure standing in the roof sighs. Unconsciously running a hand through his neatly combed dark hair. His sparkly jacket reflecting the neon city lights. Tailor-made. Everything about his life was like that. Privileged. The 1%.
In the distance he could hear the faint sound of sirens. That was the other side. Outside from politicians and businessmen, no one from his social hierarchy was allowed to go near that part of Seoul. It was imperfect.
 “Park-nim”
Jumping slightly after being surprised, he turns his head to the source of the voice. His bodyguard. A relatively young man, no older than 25. He wore a black suit, not as high quality as the clothes everyone else wore. After all, he wasn’t part of their world, he was just a worker for them.
“Your father is searching for you”
Nodding, he walks to the rooftop door. The bodyguard standing behind. That was his place. Never in front.
Both were walking silently through the highly illuminated hallways leading to the office. The sound of their footsteps echoing. It was almost midnight, everyone inside their rooms already. The young man stops suddenly, turning towards the man behind him.
“Namjoon” He was high class. There was no need for him to use honorifics. “Have you thought about what I asked?” Turning off his holographic monocle, the addressed man nods.
“I can’t. It’s risky” He answers crudely. Wanting to end the conversation as fast as he could. He had a task at hand and the boy was taking time from it. “Everyone knows your face”
“So? I can dress-up. You know how. You’re from there”
“Your father awaits, Park-nim. You already know he doesn’t like to be kept waiting” Motioning for him to keep walking, he turns on his monocle again. Pouting, the boy turns to the front.
“You promised” He says lowly. An uncomfortable silence accompanying them the rest of the way. They stop in front of a tall, metallic door. The bodyguard, Namjoon, tapping a code on a panel next to it, taking a step back as the door opens.
“Thank you, Namjoon. You can retire for the night” A voice says from the inside. The dark haired boy steps inside. His father was sitting at his desk, typing on a tablet. Motioning towards the chair in the front, never taking his eyes away from the screen. “Jimin, your 21st birthday is coming. You know what that means?”
Jimin was well aware that his father never expected answers. He did all the talking by himself. But this time the silence got too long. Was he actually expecting him to answer? The man looked up from the screen. Getting up, he walks across the room, towards the tall windows facing the streets.
“One day you will be the one in front of this corporation. That is, if you’re ever ready. The council doesn’t believe you will ever be ready, and son, I don’t believe it either” Jimin cringes at his words. His father had always been harsh towards him. Whatever he does, it never seems to please him. “You aren’t man enough to take over, but letting the corporation go to someone else…” He grimaces. “Next week, after your 21st birthday, you will be enrolled in the military. No ‘buts’, no excuses from your mother. You need to toughen up. Become a man” He says, roughly grabbing his son’s face in between his thumb and his index finger. “Understood?” Jimin nods with difficulty. His father smiles, content with the answer, or by the pained expression in his son’s face. “Now go to the entrance. I’ll call the driver”
Feeling tears welling in his eyes, Jimin blinks rapidly. He couldn’t allow his father to see him being weak. He had enough knowing already how his father hated his soft voice, his small frame, his delicate features. From the outside they were the poster family. The Park family, owners of the biggest corporation in all United Korea. Looking perfect in magazine covers and fundraising galas. Inside their lavish penthouse is where the masks came off. To say his parents hated each other was an understatement. Jimin has wondered since a young age if his parents ever loved each other. Screaming. Infidelities. Long periods ignoring each other. At least his mother loved him. She had always been his shield. The one to tell him he was beautiful whenever his father told him he was a disappointment. All he knew was that a mother’s love couldn’t be faked.
The entrance was dark and cold. Sitting in a leather couch, he gets out his phone. Notifications illuminating in front of him. A lone message awaiting him.
  KNJ, read the sender.
He had to keep it in secret, knowing there was the possibility of his father having his phone monitored.
Opening the message, just a single word.
  네  .  Yes.
He smiles. He knew he would change his mind.
Hearing the footsteps from his father nearing, he puts his phone inside his jacket and gets up. That’s what was expected from him, the perfect son.

Park Corporation owned the entirety of United Korea. They were even bigger than the government; playing an important role in the reunification of South and North Korea in 2070, it was the least they could do for them. From the security, technology and the food industry, to banks and universities, almost everything had been owned by the Park family for nearly 5 decades. At least everything that was important. Minor corporations took care of transportation and entertainment industries.
Park Sr. had to be the biggest figure in the country. Respected by everyone. Whatever he said, it was rule. Whoever was the president in turn only had to comply to the whims and wishes of the Park family.
After the reunification. Park I had promised to minimize the increasing crime rates in Seoul, thus introducing the segregated districts by income. After the devaluation of the won, anyone with a an income lower than 7,000,000 won had to be sent to the mockingly called  District 7  , to remind them of the number they will never reach. Keeping safe the figures and estates of only 1%, the”valuable part of society”. Park II , despite being in front for a short period, managed to introduce the cruelest rules. Being an extremely religious person, he deemed homosexuality illegal, reintroducing inhumane practices towards those that “lived in sin”. As well as introducing the food rationing for those living in District 7, or the inability to move towards a higher social class. Park III, the current head of the corporation, had been a little bit more lenient, allowing few individuals from District 7 to start working for them, mostly doing all the work no one from the upper class wanted to do, like teaching or cooking. Still no social mobility.
Jimin was his only son. The future senior, Park IV, if things went well and he manned up at the military. He was the spitting image of his mother, an ex-model with a nice butt and full lips, as Park III had described her when he met her. His son was soft spoken and lacked character, that’s what made his father feel like his son will never be at the level. Fearing he will ruin everything his family had worked so hard to achieve for so long.
The young man was aware of everything. The cruelty from his family. How his father looked down upon him and had zero expectations about him.
He didn’t want to be sent to the military, up in the north. He wasn’t cut for that. After eavesdropping months before, he had learned about his father’s intentions, and he started devising a plan. Luckily for him, his new bodyguard was near his age and talkative, hailing from District 7. Jimin managed to gain his trust, hinting at his plans many times, until he dared to ask him to take him to his world. At least for one day. He never went deeper on his desire to run away, in case the young man refused and went as a whistleblower to tell his father.
Jimin was sitting in his bed, a large jacket hiding the clothes he was wearing underneath. Namjoon had sneaked them two days before, after simply saying “two”, letting him know how long until he took him.
His father wouldn’t know. He was in Japan taking care of businesses. His mother always took sleeping pills, so she would be dead to the world for many hours. He turned off all his devices as precaution, in case his father had set extra security while he was away. But as far as he knew, no one would look for him. Namjoon was the one in charge of him after all.
Hearing a knock on the door, he immediately turn off the lights of his room, knowing that was his cue. Sliding the door open, Namjoon stood in front of him, out of the suit he always wore. He had a leather jacket on, black cargo pants with reflective stripes at the sides and boots. Stepping aside, he let Jimin walk out, before locking the door on the panel.
Muttering “Garage” towards the smaller boy, letting him know where they were heading. They walked in silence, keeping their hierarchy even then. Jimin kept pulling the fishnet peeking under the sleeve of his jacket, feeling nervous at what he was about to do. once they reached the garage, Namjoon walked straight to a motorcycle, handing Jimin a purple helmet while getting his on.
“Hold tight” He said, revving up. The garage door opening after the sensor detected the sound of a vehicle. Circling his arms around the waist of the taller man, Jimin started breathing deeply. “No second thoughts, Park-nim”
“Not at all” He said, trying to reassure himself.
Living all his life inside cars and planes, being in a motorcycle gave Jimin a sense of freedom he had never experienced in 20 years. He was seeing the city under a different light. The lights flashing by with the speed. The metallic smell stronger than ever.
After almost 30 minutes, Jimin could see the distinctive shape of the wall that marked the entrance of District 7. From the panel on the motorcycle, Namjoon projected an holographic code, the large door immediately reading it and opening. The motorcycle never stopped moving. Entering the doors, Jimin noticed the lights becoming an amalgamation of pink and cyan. The streets weren’t as neat. The sound of sirens becoming louder. Sounds of screaming and drunkards could be heard in the distance. A group of boys near his age were circling around a car, probably stealing parts.
Namjoon stopped outside an apartment building, a large billboard displaying instructions of what to do in case of a robbery.
“Before I take you… sightseeing, we need to make you blend in” He said, fishing his keys and opening the apartment gate. Jimin became fascinated at the sight of keys, growing up in a world filled with holographic panels and controlling things through the phone. Walking up three flights of stairs, for the first time Namjoon took the lead. This was his world after all. Most of the doors looked rusty, but the one they stopped in front looked almost decent, at least it had been taken care of. Taking out the keys again, Namjoon opened the door.
This placed looked way too different to what Jimin was accustomed to. No leather couches and marble tables, or pieces of decoration that could belong to a modern art museum. This place was modestly decorated, a worned-out couch and pallets working as a coffee table. The kitchen space, the dining room and the living room were the same room. Not as cramped as he would have imagined, but long enough to let each space differentiate itself. A small hallway led to the bathroom and where he imagined was the room, or rooms.
The small hallway lightened at the same time a door could be heard opening, surprising Jimin. For some reason he believed Namjoon lived alone. A girlfriend?
A really handsome man walked towards them. Medium bleach blonde hair, he was wearing a bright pink, fuzzy sweater with sequined black stripes, checkered shorts and fishnets, but what caught more his attention was the colorful makeup: turquoise eyeshadow running outside of the eyelid with a soft pink eyeshadow under the eyelid. Jimin had heard before how in District 7 colorful makeup was a staple, and he imagined that’s what Namjoon meant when he said he was going to make him “blend in”.
“This is Jin. He’s my… friend” Said Namjoon nervously. The tall boy laughed, sounding like a windshield, making Namjoon seem more nervous.
“Right, your ‘friend’” He walked in front of Jimin, showing him a medium-sized makeup bag. “Sit there, the lighting is better” Taking him towards the small dining table, he set down the bag next to the helmets.
 “I’m Park Jimin, by the…”
“Of course I know who you are. Everyone here knows, and that’s why you’re here, to make you less you. What should we do?” He says, thoroughly looking at his face. “I like your eye color, is that natural? I’ve never seen a korean with naturally hazel eyes…”
“Sorry, he speaks a lot” Namjoon interrupted, sitting at the couch, clearly embarrassed at Jin’s antics. “He’s a stylist, so you’re in good hands” Jin nodded, feeling proud. “And no, Jin, those are clearly contact lenses”
Whatever Jin was doing to his face, Jimin could tell he was feeling in his element. He could only see brushes in front of his eyes, colors he wouldn't normally see in his side. Bright eyeshadows, glitters and eyeliners, a bunch of decorative pearls, rhinestones, gems and tiny fake colorful crystals.
“Done!” Jimin opened his eyes, Jin holding a mirror in front of him “What do you think?”
The makeup was bold. Purple eyeshadow with specks of sparkly blue eyeshadow in the middle and the corner of the eye. Long, black eyeliner starting at the middle of his eye, under the eye he had done glittery blue tears, decorated with different sized pearls and some crystals. Whatever this look was, Jimin was in shock looking at himself.
“I look… different” Jin laughed his windshield laugh again.
“That’s what i intended. If we’re taking you outside, you better not look like yourself. Now take out that jacket, we’re going drinking”
“NO, JIN, NO” Screamed Namjoon, getting up immediately “We’re only taking him around. That’s what he wanted”
Jin took away his stuff, going back to the room, looking slightly disappointed.
“Excuse him, we normally go out for drinks on Friday’s”
“We could go. I won’t drink, if it makes you more comfortable” Jin pops his head out of the room, smiling.
“You heard the kid. We can give him the tour of our lovely neighborhood if you want, but the three of us won’t fit on that motorcycle” Jimin takes off his jacket. He was wearing a short sleeved, bright pink satin shirt. Leather pants with lace up sides, and a long-sleeved fishnet undershirt. “Huh? Those are Yoon’s?”
“They’re the closest in size. He didn’t ask that much” Feeling satisfied with the answer, Jin opened the door.
“How should we call him?” Namjoon stopped in his tracks, staring confusedly at Jin. “We can’t introduce him by his name, how should we call him?”
“Uhm… what about Minnie?” Offers Jimin, feeling his face reddening. Jin smiles.
“Minnie sounds good. I’ll head straight to the club, you take him touring. Message me so I pick you both at the entrance”
  🐇🐇🐇
When he had learned about District 7, Jimin had pictured a gray, sad-looking place, lost in time, like a city from the 2000s. Instead he was received by a colorful neon-filled place, a mixture of the last century with the high-tech of the 2100s. It was lively outside, mostly young people partying, couples hiding in alley’s illuminated in red. They seemed to live normally. none of the curfews he had read about.
Namjoon was driving slower, explaining a little about the history of some places, historical buildings that had survived the passage of time. Jimin knew that on his side of Seoul there had been historical buildings before, but they had been destroyed in favor of skyscrapers and highways, so seeing these buildings from centuries ago was fascinating.
“Shit” He heard Namjoon say under his breath. Jimin could see he was attempting a sudden U-turn. Staring ahead, he could see a bunch of men in motorcycles adorned with colorful led lights. Before he could complete the turn, a motorcycle stood in front of them, stopping Namjoon. The person on the motorcycle removed his helmet, the shield illuminated with leds that resembled a bunny face. The lights were glaring near his face, making Jimin unable to see his face. He could only see slightly long, messy hair, not as long as Jin’s, but still long.
“Long time no see, Namjoon. Thought you had ditched us for the fancy people”
“Fuck off, JK” Says Namjoon, his bodyguard instinct kicking in immediately, grabbing Jimin’s side, a sad attempt at hiding him. The young man in front leans his head to the side, trying to see the boy behind Namjoon.
“Where are you taking the whore?” Jimin could feel Namjoon tensing. Whoever this JK person was, apparently Namjoon didn’t like him.
“It’s not him, and don’t call him a whore. Ever” The boy gives a step to the front, making Namjoon grab Jimin harder.
“Well, he’s definitely not Jin, and he’s wearing that whore’s, sorry, HIS clothes” He says, pointing with his helmet towards Jimin, finally allowing him to see his face. He was striking.
“He’s just a kid that needed a ride. Now let us go, his mother is worrying...” Jimin gets up, forcefully removing Namjoon’s hand from is side, and takes off his helmet.
“I’m Minnie. I work in a house on the other side, Namjoon kindly gave me a ride because I couldn’t reach the subway on time. My mother is really worried, so if you could…” He could feel JK’s stare. Maybe he was bad news, based on Namjoon’s reaction, but there was something about him that attracted Jimin. He had a mysterious aura.
“Okay, take the fairy home” JK says with a smirk, getting his helmet on again. He makes a sign towards the group in front. “You’ll tell me later why he’s wearing that whore’s clothes” He revs up towards the group, leaving together.
“You shouldn’t have done that” Namjoon says coldly.
“He wouldn’t leave us alone, and you saw the size of that group?!” Namjoon revs up, not wanting to hear anymore. He was tense, driving angrily. Jimin was wondering if what put him on edge was the person or what he said. Back in their apartment, Jin had mentioned the clothes belonged to someone named Yoon, and that JK had said repeatedly he was a whore. Whatever it was, it had angered Namjoon a lot.
They stopped in front of a highly illuminated building. Loud music making the floor rumble, a long line outside. Jin spotted them immediately, signaling towards a spot Namjoon could park his motorcycle. Getting off from the motorcycle, They walked to where Jin was standing, on the other side of where the line was standing.
“Hobi already got us a table… What happened?” He asked, furrowing his eyebrows.
“JK” Jin made a sour face hearing the name. Whoever that person was, he was definitely no good news, Jimin concluded. They got inside. Loud electronic music pumping. People were dancing, kissing against walls, getting drunk out of their heads. They walked to a more secluded area. Namjoon plopped down immediately, Jin sitting next to him.
“Our friend Hoseok, Hobi, he owns this place. We get preferential treatment” Jin explains, taking a small tube out of his pocket. Opening it, he takes out some colorful pills, depositing them in Namjoon’s hand. “You look like you need them” He whispers on Namjoon’s ear. The taller man nods, staring ahead, behind the pink curtain dividing them from the rest of the club. Jimin pretended he didn’t see anything.
“JINNIE, JOON” A high voice screams on top of the music. A man with a bright heart shaped smile and auburn hair appears, holding a bottle on one hand. Pink tinted, hexagonal shaped glasses adorned his face. He was wearing a purple and cyan jacket, and some ridiculous looking sneakers.
“This is Minnie. He’s Joonie’s friend” Says Jin, taking the bottle out of his hands. “Minnie, he’s Hobi” Jimin waves his hand. The man smiles again.
“I love your makeup, I already know who the artist is” He says, pointing with his head at Jin. “Want something to drink, Minnie? It’s on me--”
“He doesn’t drink” Namjoon says immediately, interrupting him.
“You’ll keep Yoon company then. Jin, whatever you’re carrying, give me” Jin throws the small tube towards him. Hoseok takes a two pills out. “He’s been clean for almost two months, you know?”
“Funny how you say that while taking molly” Says Namjoon smirking.
“What he doesn’t know won’t kill him”
Jimin was looking somewhere else. He knew what they were doing, but not staring gave him a sense of protection. He still was from a different world. He was just visiting. Tomorrow he would be back on his perfect palace. He didn’t feel that brave anymore.
“HERE!” He hears Hoseok’s high voice screaming. A blue haired boy gets into the area, bright pink eyeshadow draping, melting with a softer shade of pink blush and slightly red glossy lips. If Jimin was sure about something, is that everyone around here was obsessed with bright pinks. The boy was pretty, with chubby cheeks and a button nose. He looked quite thin, but not in a healthy way. His long sleeved, graphic black shirt making him look even smaller.
“That’s Minnie, Joon and Jin’s friend, he isn’t drinking tonight either. Sit with him” Says Hoseok at the blue haired boy, who nods in return. “Minnie, he’s Yoongi, my boyfriend” Hoseok says proudly. Jimin’s eyes widen. Boyfriend?! But that wasn’t allowed.
“The whore?” Says Jimin without thinking, the blue haired boy visibly flinching, stopping before sitting. Noticing his mistake, Jimin’s face reddens. “I didn’t mean it. I’m sorry, really” He says rapidly.
“The clothes… they look good on you…” Says the boy timidly. Jimin didn’t know if that was his usual demeanor or his carelessness had broken him so fast.
“Please, sit” Says Jimin, trying to make amends with the boy, moving to the side. “I’m truly sorry. I spoke without thinking” The boy sits next to him, looking visibly uncomfortable. Hoseok was saying something to a waiter.
“Boys. I ordered water for both of you. Keep it cute” The other boy, Yoongi, nods. Jimin felt really bad, it was clear whatever mood he had arrived with, he had ruined it.
“Don’t worry about it… nothing I haven’t heard before” He says in a small voice, playing with the border of his sleeves. The other three were deep in conversation, completely ignoring the awkward pair next to them.
“How old are you…?” Jimin asks, trying to break the ice.
“21” The boy says quietly. Immediately grabbing the glass the waiter was giving him and drinking. Jimin grabs his with a ‘Thanks’.
“I’ll be 21 too in 5 days” Jimin says with a smile, trying to appear friendly. Yoongi just nods. Whatever chance he had at some sort of good time with the boy, he had ruined it completely. They sat there in silence for what felt an eternity. Whatever trance Yoongi was in, was broken the moment Jin took Namjoon’s hand, leading him towards the dancefloor. Hoseok stood too, visibly drunk, circling his arms around the smaller boy and kissing his neck.
“Dance with me” He whispers wetly against his neck, making Yoongi smile. He gets up and both follow the same path as the other couple. Being left alone, Jimin started reflecting on the biggest piece of information he had received in the last hour. In his world being gay was wrong, it was banned and penalized. Why they were so open and free about it. Didn’t they know what they were risking? What Namjoon was risking if that information ever leaked in the upper side?
Jimin felt someone looming over him. Turning behind him, Jimin is met with JK standing there. His handsome features more visible now.
“I suppose you gave a fuck about your mother after all, fairy” He sips from his bottle of beer. Jimin gets up, facing the taller man.
 “You followed us?”
“Don’t think the world revolves around you, fairy. This is still a free country… Unless your father is thinking about removing more things from us” Jimin didn’t notice at which moment the man had cornered him to the wall. He knew.
 “How…?”
“The other dumbfucks may be naive enought to not realize, or they’re just playing along for Namjoon” He grabs Jimin’s chin on between his thumb and his index finger. “Everyone knows your face. Your family is the reason we live like this” He lets go of his face. “But let me tell you something, fairy. You’re not like them. For some reason you decided to play dress-up and come see our misery. You’re above the pieces of shit you live with. Now you’ve seen, you can actually do something” He caresses his cheek. Jimin feels electricity running through his veins. JK turns towards the dancefloor. “Look at them. This is the only place we can be who we truly are” His fingers go down to his neck, whatever space between them was nonexistent. “No societal expectations” Jimin could feel his lips nibbling his ear. “No rules” Jimin closes his eyes. The close contact making feel things he had never felt before. “You belong here, fairy” And just like that, he goes away, leaving Jimin breathing heavily. Confused. Staring at the bodies dancing in between the colorful lights. The music in sync with his heartbeat.
Whatever had happened between them, he wanted more.
