We hold this truth to be self-evident: When it comes to stellar holiday-weekend deals, Amazon rules.
Prime Day might be in the rearview mirror, but never fear. Amazon is having a massive sale to mark the 4th of July, with discounts as deep as those we enjoyed during âPrime Timeâ last month. Weâre talking incredible deals on TVs and tech, amazing markdowns on kitchen items and fabulous fashion finds (new vacation wardrobe, anyone?).

Letâs fix that: Sign up for a free 30-day trial here. (And by the way, those without Prime still get free shipping on orders of $25 or more.)
Score some steals before they disappear â then get outside for fun in the sun.Â

Nokia 8.1 Review:Â The Smooth Mid-range does nearly everything right
With the Nokia 7 Plus, HMD Global set up an astounding and mainstream mid-range and the Nokia 8.1 attempts to rehash this achievement. Regardless of whether that will work, you will discover in this Nokia 8.1 review.
Check out the Nokia 8.1 Review
2018 was a bustling year for HMD Global, the Finnish company in charge of the Nokia Android smartphones. Many models were released, for the most part including budget gears. The best (and as we would like to think the best) cell phone was the Nokia 7 Plus, a mid-range with great specifications, fine programming and great inducement for cash. Despite the fact that the name proposes something else, the new Nokia 8.1 is as per HMD Global the otherworldly successor of the 7 Plus. It's anything but a trade for the Nokia 8 from 2017, which was more a top of the line gadget. The 8.1 is a working class that handles a portion of the 7 Plus torment focuses, attempting to equal with a similar achievement. That has to a great extent succeeded, as you will discover in this Nokia 8.1 review.
Nokia 8.1: Strong Housing of metal and glass
On the off chance that you put the Nokia 7 Plus and 8.1 by one another, there are impressive outside contrasts. The 7 Plus has a full metal casing and a fine covering on the back, making the telephone feel superbly firm. The device can get hammered, and that inclination you have something less with the 8.1. This is on the grounds that the back is presently totally made of glass, which is obviously a progressively powerless material. The edge around the lodging is as yet made of metal.
hmdglobal.com HMD Global has unmistakably centred more around design, on the grounds that the Nokia 8.1 looks more modern and pleasant than its predecessor. The dimensions have continued as before with 154.8 by 75.8 by 8 millimetres, yet the 8.1 feels less awkward in light of the fact that the screen edges are thinner and you essentially have more screen in a similar configuration. A little drawback is that the Nokia 8.1 does not look extremely thrilling. The design is like that of the Nokia 7.1, which thusly takes after the Nokia 5.1 Plus. The design of Nokia with all Smartphones about the equivalent and that makes it somewhat exchangeable at this point. The 7 Plus had a progressively claim character. Â Â
Nokia 8.1: Incredible screen and Hardware
That screen is 6.18 inches tall and has a resolution of 2280 by 1080 pixels. That is more than adequate and makes for sharp pictures, while additionally with the colour reproduction and most extreme brilliance. Particularly the latter is valuable, on the grounds that the Nokia 7 Plus was somewhat hard to peruse in splendid daylight. With the 8.1 you have no issues with this and that is a decent enhancement. Much the same as pretty much every Android smartphone that has been released over the most recent couple of months, a notch is situated at the top of the screen. That notch is somewhat wide with the Nokia 8.1 and is 'off' by default. In the spaces by the notch, the notifications, time couple with the system information (wifi, battery rate) appear; however you have no choice to switch on the notch. This function may, in any case, be included during an update. Unlocking your phone with face recognition is likewise not present and that is a shame. Xiaomiâs Pocophone F1 has this function for instance and on that device, it works exceptionally well.
hmdglobal.com
hmdglobal.com In the hook is the new Snapdragon 710, an octa-core processor that we will presumably observe in a lot more midrange Android smartphones in 2019. The chip is helped by 4GB RAM and 64GB. The execution of the hardware is amazing: applications load rapidly, performing multiple tasks with no issue and the Nokia 8.1 takes off through the software. Just in case you're used to high-end phones, you'll see the contrasts between a faster processor and this Snapdragon 710. However, we set out to state that the 8.1 is quick enough for each user. The unique fingerprint scanner is on the back and works precisely and rapidly. Similarly, there is earphone connection, micro-SD card, Bluetooth 5.0 and a solitary speaker at the base.
Android One is an Assurance for Updates
As we have generally expected from Nokia, there is little to be said about the software. The Nokia 8.1 is an Android One gadget, which means you are ensured long haul software backing and three-year month to month security updates. The 8.1 is additionally one of the cheaper phones that run out of the box on Android 9.0 (Pie). This gives you quick access to the new motion control and valuable additional items, for instance, Adaptive Brightness and Adaptive Battery. These are some of the features embedded in Pie and how they function, you can peruse in our broad Android Pie review. On Nokia's own camera app and a support application, the 8.1 keeps running on stock-Android. This is Android as Google expected and by far the best form of the mobile operating system. On account of the ground-breaking hardware, Android Pie truly makes its mark on the 8.1, which serve as a big plus. Add to that the long stretches of updates, and you have an extremely future-evidence smartphone.
Nokia 8.1: Enhanced Camera
Likewise decent: the camera of the Nokia 8.1 is superior to that of the 7 Plus. On the back, there is again a double camera of 12 and 13-megapixels, in spite of the fact that the design is somewhat extraordinary. The telephoto lens of Nokia 7 Plus, with which you can zoom up to 2x optically, has vanished. The secondary lens is currently chiefly utilized for gathering profundity data for portrait photographs, and that functions admirably. The bokeh impact is connected flawlessly and works essentially better on the Nokia 8.1. Amid the day, the 8.1 makes amazing photographs, where a great deal of detail is obvious, hues look lovely and the self-adjust works quick. Occasionally, the smartphone experiences difficulty with the optimal adjustment of the lighting, yet that is definitely not a gigantic issue. It is more irritating than the camera application is sometimes a bit slow, in spite of the fact that it is a great deal clearer than the camera software of the Nokia 7.1. There is likewise a Pro mode, where you can modify a wide range of settings. For instance, you set the aperture yourself. Just for the genuine connoisseur, however, it conveys exceptionally pleasant pictures. The primary camera of the Nokia 8.1 has optical picture adjustment and that likewise helps in low light circumstances. Pictures remain sensibly sharp, however, don't expect brilliant photos. High-end phones consistently complete much better, however in this price range, the 8.1 has a place with the better. The 20-megapixel selfie camera, in addition, performs well, even with less light.
Nokia 8.1: Battery Life
The Nokia 8.1 has a 3500 mAh battery and that is more than normal in 2018. The real battery life can likewise be portrayed: great, yet not extremely amazing. That is positively not a debacle, on the grounds that on a full load you get during that time with no issues and I frequently figured out how to press multi-day and a half out of the 8.1. Very Good, in spite of the fact that there are devices in this price range - think about the Xiaomi Pocophone F1 with its 4000 mAh battery - that last more. Adjustable battery management, an element of Pie that guarantees that applications that you utilize less regularly also utilize less battery power, helps a bit. Because of a little bit smaller battery, the Nokia 8.1 has the favourite standpoint that charging goes quick. With a half hour of recharging, you have another 40 to 50 per cent battery and that is sufficient to get past an extensive usage on daily basis. From 0 to 100 per cent of charging takes around two hours with the included USB Type-C quick charger.
Nokia 8.1 Price
With a proposed retail price of 399 euros (equivalent to N164, 787), the Nokia 8.1 maintain between budget Smartphones (which have improved in 2018) and flagships that have since dropped in cost. Devices, for example, the Motorola Moto G6 Plus and Xiaomi Mi A2, both impressively cheaper, for instance, don't add up much for the Nokia 8.1. Are you set to pay in excess of 100 euros more, for instance, you end up with the Samsung Galaxy S9? What's more, that is a competitor that the Nokia can not so much handle.
Xiaomi Pocophone F1 Review
Additionally, the Pocophone F1 from Xiaomi is a decent alternative in contrast to the Nokia 8.1, and furthermore somewhat less expensive. The Pocophone F1 has all the more ground-breaking hardware, better battery life and excellent face recognition, yet is less well supported and has a shabby, plastic housing.
Summary of Nokia 8.1 Review
With the Nokia 8.1, the Finnish manufacturer is indeed exhibiting an astounding mid-ranger. The device has a strong device, quick hardware, fine cameras and is ensured by the Android One program. Less is that the smartphone looks to some degree generic and the battery life is not exactly with the Nokia 7 Plus. With everything taken into account, you get an extraordinary smartphone for 399 euros that you can use for quite a long time. All things considered, we would hang tight somewhat longer for the Nokia 8.1 to drop marginally in price. The device is pretty complete, yet does not have such an exceptionally focused price quality proportion as a few competitors. For significantly less cash you can get here of what this Nokia knows to offer.
Nokia 8.1 Release Date and Price
The Nokia 8.1 will be available in the most market in early January 2019 for the price of 399 euros which is equivalent to N164, 787 and you can be pre-ordered it. You will soon have the choice to select between three colours:Â blue/silver, steel/copper, iron/steel What is your take on this Nokia 8.1 features? Share your thought on the review box below. Revealed: The Top 10 Custom Motorcycles of 2019
Itâs always the hardest article to write, but also the most fascinating to research. Our annual roundup of the most popular customs on Bike EXIF reveals the dominant trends in the scene as well as the builders who have their fingers on the pulse.
This year, outside of the top two builds, the competition was tighter than ever before. Some builds that dominated site traffic barely registered a blip on social media; other bikes that went haywire in our social channels simply didnât translate to solid web traffic.
As always, this Top 10 is driven by data alone, rather than the personal preferences of our writers. Itâs based on page views, comments, incoming links, and shares on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. If there are dead heats, we weight the rankings according to long a bike has been âliveâ on the site.
Everyone will draw their own conclusions from the Top 10, but a few things stood out for us. Firstly, the generic âcafĂŠ racerâ category is well and truly dead. Many of the most popular bikes combine elements of different genres.
The offroad vibe is on the rise, whether itâs hints of classic Dakar styling or a trend towards rebuilding enduro/dual sport machines. And classic racing in general, from flat track to endurance to MX, is having an increasing influence on builders. Functional styling (with a twist) and authenticity is increasingly appreciated.
Read on, and youâll see the ten bikes that revved our readersâ engines the most over the past year. Some you may have expected to see, but others may be a surprise.
10. Yamaha XSR155 by K-Speed How many workshops finish over 50 builds a year? Hardly any. The number that can keep the quality high is even smallerâprobably on the fingers of one hand.
K-Speed is the most visible of those high-volume builders, and despite the relentless pace in this Bangkok workshop, the output is fascinating.
Several K-Speed bikes were in the running for this yearâs Top Ten, but the winner is this chunky XSR155, which edged out the Honda Monkeys to claim its spot. It was a commission from Yamaha Thailand to boost the launch of the smallest XSR, and confirmed one of the biggest trends weâve seen over the past 12 months: smaller bikes are hot property.
This build follows a relatively standard formulaânew subframe, seat, exhaust, bars, wheels and accessoriesâbut the K-Speed secret sauce lifts it to a new level. Shop owner âEakâ knows how to whip up the ingredients into a tasty recipe, and our readers were hungry for more, with over 16,000 giving their approval on Instagram alone. [More]
9. Scrambler Ducati by Slayer House Nattapat Janyapanich is a pro motorcycle designer who has works for manufacturers in Southeast Asia. He builds customs in his spare time as Slayer House, and this Ducati caught the imagination of our readers.
Long and low, it hits the sweet spot visuallyâbut thereâs an equal amount of trickery on the mechanical front. The forks are from a Ducati 999R, with an Ăhlins monoshock to match, and the single-sided swingarm is from a Monster 796.
Nattapat also raided the Ducati parts bin for the tank, which is the simpler (and more appealing) Scrambler Sixty2 item, but built the rear end and its bodywork himself. Other upgrades include OZ Racing wheels, BMW S1000RR brake components and clip-on bars.
Itâs a deceptively clever rather than flashy build from a guy who knows what he is doing, and even has an autoclave to make his own carbon fiber parts. [More]
8. Brad Petersonâs Yamaha TZ750 flat track racer The TZ750 is one of the most fearsome race bikes of all time: Kenny Roberts hit 145 mph on one, and it was so fast that it was banned after a single major race outing.
That was enough to cement its legendary status, and also enough to spur Brad Peterson into commissioning this very classy replica. The frame is an accurate copy of an original Champion frame, and it cradles a 1977 TZ 750D Scott Guthrie Racing engine.
Builder Jeff Palhegyiâs handiwork is everywhereâfrom the frame recreation to the expansion chambers.The engine has also been retuned to make it tractable on the street, with the help of Lectron carburetors, but even so, itâs still a handful.
âWhen the revs hit about 7,000, it lights the back tire up violentlyâand at the same time lifts the front wheel, pulling hard all the way to 11,000,â says Brad.
Magnificent stuff in an increasingly sanitized worldâand we need more of this. [More]
7. Indian Scout Bobber drag bike by Workhorse Speedshop The Sultans Of Sprint drag series in Europe always throws up some amazing builds. Despite strict regulations designed to keep costs and horsepower under control, builders on the continent keep coming up with jaw-dropping machines that assault the eyes as well as the senses.
Our favorite this year was this Scout from the Belgian builder Brice Hennebert, a man who marches to his own tune. Looking like a V-twin that has crashed into a jet engine, âAppaloosaâ gets extra juice from a nitrous systemâand despite the massive fairing, weighs a whopping 42 kilos less than a stock Scout Bobber.
The aluminum body alone took Brice seven weeks to build, and takes inspiration from 1920s trains, 1940s Formula One cars, and the F-86 Sabre fighter. The tank looks stock but has been narrowed by 10 centimeters, and thereâs a custom swingarm to increase the wheelbase and help get the power down.
Thereâs custom CNC machined parts everywhere, the suspension is Ăhlins all round, and AkrapoviÄ built a one-off exhaust system too.
Even with Randy Mamola as pilot, the Scout couldnât quite win the drag race championshipâbut it took home the âBest Styleâ award, wowing racegoers as well as our readers. [More]
6. Suzuki DR-Z400 by Federal Moto Thereâs a lot of love out there for the evergreen, bulletproof DR-Z, and Federal Moto felt the full force of the neurotransmitters when they released âBig Suzieâ on these pages.
The Chicago shop completed the build for a local client, who wanted a stylish urban wheelie machine that could also handle the occasional rough stuff. So Mike MĂźller and his crew whipped up a new bolt-on subframe, installed an SR500 tank, and a Honda VFR400 radiator.
New fenders keep the muck at bay and the cockpit has been upgraded with Renthal bars, Biltwell grips, Motogadget electrics, and MSR controls. A killer paint job and smart grey powder on the frame makes the humble DR-Z look a million dollars. [More]
5. BMX motorized bicycle by Down & Out The English builder Shaun Walker has been immersed in the custom scene for over 20 years now, and is best-known to our readers for his ballsy, fat-tired retro roadsters.
But Shaun has built just about every type of custom in his storied career, and heâs not afraid to try something new. And in this case, it was a big swerve away from his usual fare.
Shaunâs a long-time BMX fan, but could never afford one when he was a kid. This build realizes the dream for him, but adds in a Honda clone motor, a polished raw steel frame, Honda Cub brakes, and ⌠big wheels. This baby has 17 x 5 rims on custom hub spacers, shod with 180/55Ă17 Pirelli MT60 tires.
Better late than never, as they say. And our Instagram followers felt the same way: over 15,000 people hit the like button. [More]
4. Royal Enfield Himalayan by Fuel The ânewâ 650 twins get most of the custom love these days, thanks to Royal Enfieldâs fantastic support program for bike builders. But it was a humble Himalayan that resonated most with our readers.
It comes from the Spanish outfit Fuel, who are no strangers to these pages. As well as building classy customs, Fuel are famous for organizing the annual Scram Africa expeditionâa 4,000 km dirt tour running through North Africa.
Fuel chose the Himalayan as the base for this scrambler because itâs simple, easy to repair and relatively compact. After all, thereâs no point in having the best-looking bike in the desert if it turns into a sand anchor.
The styling recalls 80s enduros and Paris Dakar bikes, but Fuel have added some neat functionality tooâsuch as custom switchgear for turning the ABS off if required. Very clever. [More]
3. Harley Fat Bob by Rough Crafts If there were a marathon event for custom bike builders, Winston Yeh would win it. Each year brings a small but delectable selection of new Rough Crafts builds, and we get to see his signature style applied to new platforms while remaining utterly consistent.
This Fat Bob was the second most widely viewed article on the site in 2019, and as soon as we clapped eyes on the shots, we knew it was going to be a hit. Harley customs tend to occupy a niche of their ownâespecially the larger bikesâbut this build also appealed to folks who would never dream of stepping into a Bar and Shield showroom.
âMighty Guerrillaâ is a distant relative to the Sportster that launched Yehâs star into orbit nearly a decade agoâthe âIron Guerrilla.â Itâs a murdered-out 2018 Fat Bob 107, rolling on chunky 16-inch rims with five-inch wide tires.
The stance is slightly slammed, the brakes are upgraded, and the bodywork and exhaust system are all-new. Itâs edgy and aggressive, from the signature headlight grille backwards. (The heavily modified tank, intriguingly, started life as a Sportster fitment.)
Congratulations Winston on a decade at the top of the game! [More]
2. Ducati MH900e by Onehandmade Itâs a brave builder who dares to tackle a machine as iconic as the MH900e. Only two thousand were built, and half the production run sold out in less than an hour.
âChunâ Hung of Onehandmade is one of the worldâs finest metal shapers, but even he tried to dissuade his client from messing with his MH900e. But when his client insisted, he went all-out. The new aluminum bodywork flows seamlessly, looking elegant yet aggressive.
Mechanical upgrades include higher spec Ăhlins suspension and Brembo brakes, custom triple clamps and clip-ons, and a stunning titanium exhaust system.
Onehandmade entered the Ducati into the CafĂŠ Racer category at the AMD World Championship of bike building but, bizarrely, it only placed fourth.
Our readers were quicker than the AMD judges to spot the brilliance of this build though, and an absolute torrent of web traffic and social shares followed. [More]
1. Yamaha MT-07 by Andrew Stagg A surprise hit late in the year, this Yammie from Australian builder Andrew Stagg struck a massive chord with readersâespecially our fans on Facebook, who gave it 24,000 thumbs-ups. And this was the most widely read article on the site in the whole year.
Everything on this machine is top-notch, and it looks like the kind of bike youâd see on a manufacturersâ stand at EICMA, as a concept to test public opinion.
Stagg is a one-man band, although he has history in the moto industry: he raced bikes in the 90s, and has worked at Smoked Garage in Brisbane for a couple of yearsâbuilding mostly bobbers and hardtail conversions. Heâs also worked for Holden Special Vehicles, amping up his engineering and fabrication skills still further.
The styling is spot-on, the fit and finish is superb, and it looks like something that Yamaha could build tomorrow. And maybe thatâs the source of its appeal: this MT-07 is not an impractical fantasy, but a machine that could happily sit in a showroom.
The stock MT-07 is very much a âMarmiteâ bike, with styling that polarizes opinion. But Stagg, working with Brisbane shop Black Cycles, has shown itâs possible to give the MT a new set of clothes with wide appeal.
The people have spoken: will Yamaha take the hint? [More]
EDITORâS NOTE The toughest part of these roundups is seeing the bikes that didnât quite make itâbecause a lot of them are personal favorites. The winners are bikes that scored highly across all criteria, smashing not only page views, but also social shares across all major platforms.
There were a few bikes that just missed the cut because they didnât have the âfull handâ for some reason, even if they scored hugely on one or two other criteria.
This year, that included Jake Drummondâs Yamaha MT-07, VTRâs BMW S1000RR and S1000XR pair, Krom Worksâ Royal Enfield Continental GT 650, Craig Rodsmithâs front-wheel-drive motorcycle, and JvB-Motoâs Yamaha XSR900.
Itâs also worth noting that both Triumph and Honda seem to have some catching up to do, while Yamaha and Royal Enfield are on the rise. As are builders from the Southeast Asia region.
Weâll finish with a note of thanks. Particularly to the builders and photographers who create and capture these fascinating machinesâand to the advertisers who keep our servers running and the site free for you to read. Please support these people as they support us.
We hope youâve enjoyed this year of custom motorcycles, and weâll be in touch again in a few days, when Wes will publish his Editorâs Choice for 2019âan entirely personal view, free from the constrictions of data and social media.

5 Blogs We Love for UX Design Inspiration If youâre one of the OG bloggers who started in 2006, then user experience (or UX, as itâs more commonly known) was probably a bit of a foreign concept. Having 30 sidebar links, clumsy mobile layouts and tiny images were initially fine back then. In 2018 though, it will likely negatively affect your business and blossoming brand. Firstly, your blog should never take longer than a few seconds to load. The way your readers navigate and use your site should be at the forefront of any design and experience tweaks and it needs to be constantly monitored. Put yourself in the readerâs shoes: What catches your eye when you browse on desktop or various devices? A well-designed platform will increase the time users spend on your site and make them more likely to return. Read on for some UX basics to consider plus five design examples to get inspired by. Think like a brand â Although you want potential readers to browse your blog, thereâs also PRs, agencies, and journalists to consider too. You donât want to make it difficult for a brand to get in touch or find out what makes you unique. If you use WordPress, install the Heatmap plugin to see how users interact with your blog. Use this to inform design tweaks and ensure your About page, contact information and search bar are clear and easy to find. Most users will expect these to be near the top of the page and theyâre also great elements to have on a floating navigation bar. Have a responsive mobile layout â Did you know that 69% of digital media time is spent on mobile? Consider how your blog looks on a smaller screen. A clunky design can affect how long users spend on the page. Design elements will automatically adapt to different screen sizes if you have a responsive theme or plugin. Youâll likely see a blog logo, followed by posts, categories and a profile photo instead of a sidebar and multiple columns. Look at Google Analytics (Audience>Mobile) to see how your session duration differs per device. If thereâs a massive difference, then it may be worth switching things up. When testing a new blog template, see how long it takes to scroll down the page and consider adding a sticky navigation bar to make better use of the space. Pop-ups can also be annoying on mobile devices and Google has even started to penalize the most intrusive sites. 5 Examples of Great Blog Design Whilst no blog is perfect, itâs worth doing some research and consider features that make you want to keep scrolling. Here are a few of our favorites: A Pair & A Spare â Genevaâs site is a joy to browse on mobile. The layout uses space wisely and layers the post title over each image, so more content can be highlighted. The sticky navigation bar also makes the search and social buttons super easy to find, no matter where you are on the page. Elgin Avenue â When your blog covers multiple topics, you want to make your categories as easy to find as possible. Monicaâs navigation bar is meticulously organized and you can see previews of each post as you hover across. What Olivia Did â This clean yet quirky design highlights archive content well and cleverly breaks up recent posts and key categories. You can also change how posts are laid out on a desktop. The Chriselle Factor â Chriselleâs magazine-style site combines videos alongside key categories, with a simplified version for mobile. Refinery 29 â This example isnât technically a blog but it demonstrates that you shouldnât just look in the obvious places when it comes to UX. Use it as inspiration if your blog has lots of categories. On mobile, there are three different content streams at the top of the page, and each collection of articles has a different look and feel. Honor 7S review: Your grandma deserves better With the Honor 10, Honor created a smartphone that challenged a lot of flagships at a very affordable mid-range price tag. The OEM has proven itself to be a master of efficiency in engineering and highly competitive in lower price categories. This is Honorâs cheapest phone yet. So, what happens when that same company takes on the budget market? What can we expect for a measly 99 pounds (~$129)? Letâs find out in this Honor 7S review. Letâs just say itâs best not to get your hopes up. Don't get your hopes up Design and features: Plain Jane Letâs start with the design. You should expect a number of concessions in a phone costing 99 pounds, and this oneâs got plenty. This is a very plastic phone with a generic design. Itâs also quite thick, which may not be an issue depending on your preferences â but it further betrays the phoneâs budget nature. Itâs not necessarily ugly, though. In fact it actually looks fairly solid â I really like the rounded edges. Itâs not even close to premium, but itâs certainly acceptable. The screen is 5.45 inches, with a 1,440 x 720 resolution. A sub-1080p screen is pretty rare these days, even at this price. That said, the 18:9 aspect ratio and 73 percent screen-to-body ratio make it feel at least somewhat modern. From purely a design standpoint, this is a well-made budget device with sensible cost cutting compromises. Unfortunately, the average design is one of the deviceâs best aspects. Features: None to speak of Another moderately good aspect of the 7s is its 3,020mAh battery. It isnât absurdly big, but does very well with the chipset and the low-res screen. Iâve gotten 8 hours of screen-on time with basic usage, which is pretty darn good. Taxing the CPU and connectivity will drain it a lot faster. Youâre really looking at just over a day when it comes to more intensive use. Thereâs no fingerprint scanner here, which is a bit of a blow. Thereâs no face detection either, so you really are left with only the basic PIN or password for your security. Hello, old friend The 7s uses Micro-USB. Nicer features like water resistance, NFC, and wireless charging are missing â all perfectly fair and to be expected (even if the AWOL fingerprint scanner stings a bit). What strikes me as a really cheap move on the other hand is the complete lack of a speaker grill. The 7S instead uses the phone speaker for media and notifications, which creates a lot of distortion at higher volumes. Itâs useful if you want to kick a YouTube habit, but otherwise actually quite unpleasant. Coupled with the 720p screen, this really isnât a good option for media consumption. Iâve used plenty of cheap devices but none completely lacking a speaker grill! Itâs only got 16GB of storage, which meant I actually had to pick and choose which apps I wanted to transfer from my previous device. This really isnât a good option for media consumption However, there is expandable storage up to 256GB, so youâll at least be able to store a lot of data there. Still, 16GB is very limiting, especially considering the apps that need to be installed on internal storage. Thereâs dual SIM, which I know will please a lot of people. Performance: Low specs meets bloated OS Iâm just going to come out with it: the Honor 7S is not an impressive phone â even taking into account the low price. The Honor 7S packs a low-end Mediatek MT6739 processor, and a minimal 2GB of RAM. Thatâs certainly not an impressive showing on paper, but the actual real-world performance somehow manages to fall short of even the most modest expectations. Response time, load times, browsing, and smoothness all take a serious hit. Often, youâll hit a key and wait a fraction of a second for it to respond. Youâll spend a fair amount of time looking at splash screens while apps load, or wondering if the phoneâs crashed. Itâs not uncommon to find basic animations freezing mid-way through. Pretty much any time the Swiftkey keyboard pops up (the pre-installed default), youâll get a brief blank space underneath your current app. Iâve actually become bored waiting for my photos to open up. Even trying to use the wallpaper app for photos was a chore. Technically it supports split screen multitasking, but I wouldnât bother. While most other lower end devices can handle most games just fine, the Honor 7S is not the device for you if you plan on playing 3D titles with decent performance. Even a favorite 2D title of mine â Run Gun, Jump Gun â runs in slow-mo as though everything is taking place under water. PUBG doesnât work due to a glitch. Thereâs no gyroscope sensor either, so 360-degree content is off limits and VR is definitely a no go. It probably wouldnât have the horsepower to run it anyway. It really isnât any fun to use The performance should be better than this, even given the hardware. I suspect the issue may have something to do with the Color OS UI layer, the amount of bloat (especially egregious given the small amount of space), and a lack of optimization. The Honor 10 made up for software bloat with its Kirin 970, and some potential AI RAM management. The Honor 7S is an experiment in combining poor software optimization with sub-par hardware, and it really isnât any fun to use. The default Huawei launcher is not pretty, but at least you can change it Phones arenât just luxuries anymore â theyâre essential tools for most of us. When you canât rely on your device to open up the camera, maps, or even contacts quickly, you have a problem. It at least works well as a phone. Call quality was good and the phone allows turning the volume on the earpiece up extra loud to drown out background noise. Itâs a nice touch, though clearly only included to sidestep the need for a speaker. Camera: Meh Believe it or not, I take no pleasure in writing a negative reviews (well, maybe just a little bit). I was really hoping the camera might be this phoneâs saving grace. Honor has a habit of sticking feature-packed cameras into even its cheaper models. Thatâs not the case here. All the Honor 7xâs fun options have been stripped out of the app, including the pro mode and light painting. You get a few fun filters, but itâs otherwise a basic, stripped-down affair. As a result, the camera gets very little support. The good news is that the rear shooter here is 13MP, which is respectable. The selfie camera is also not bad at 5MP â it even comes with an LED light. Unfortunately, photos are dark, lack detail, and often come out blurry due to the lack of stabilization. White balance is all over the place, and a lot of shots just donât work because of that. Low light performance is also poor, and the aperture is fairly narrow at f/2.2, limiting the depth of field effects that you can achieve. Itâs not atrocious â I have seen worse. If you take a lot of photos, youâll probably want to bring your camera along too. You wonât be hanging these on your wall. Video is available at 1080p, but seeing as thereâs no gyroscope, you shouldnât be surprised to find that thereâs no stabilization here either resulting in some pretty shaky footage. Bottom line: Thereâs better out there I usually aim to use a phone for at least a week before writing a review , so I can give it a fair chance and catch any kinks not immediately apparent. To be completely honest, I gave up after a few days with the Honor 7S â it was simply too frustrating to use. There were already enough âkinksâ for me to make up my mind. This might all seem a little unfair. Maybe it comes across as a rant (my apologies). I am perfectly aware that you shouldnât expect the world for 99 pounds. However, other devices out offer far more impressive specs, features, and performance that cost a similar amount. Take the OPPO Realme 1 that I reviewed recently. The base model costs $110 and it comes with a better screen, more RAM, face detection, a glass back, faster processor, bigger battery, and (gasp!) speaker grill. For 50 pounds (~$65) more, you could get something like the Moto G6 Play or a host of other much more compelling devices. I could live with the design and the lack of high-end features. Even the low resolution would be fine; the sluggishness is just too much. The sound quality is also actively unpleasant. To conclude this Honor 7S review, I just canât recommend this device. So thatâs it for our Honor 7S review. If it werenât for the poor performance, I could suggest this as a gift for your Grandma or someone else who doesnât need any high-end features. As it is, I wouldnât wish this on your Grandma. , via Android Authority http://bit.ly/2A2Zn4d

Moto G6 Plus review: A lot of handset for a competitive price Review
New Post has been published on http://www.dailygadgets.net/moto-g6-plus-review-a-lot-of-handset-for-a-competitive-price-review/
Moto G6 Plus review: A lot of handset for a competitive price Review
Motorolaâs 2018 iteration of its budget smartphone range comprises a trio of handsets â the Moto G6 (ÂŁ219), Moto G6 Play (ÂŁ169) and Moto G6 Plus (ÂŁ269), reviewed here. All three have their particular selling points: the G6 sports some impressive specifications for the price, including an octa-core processor; the G6 Play has a 4000mAh battery to help keep gamers happy; and the top-end G6 Plus includes a larger screen and a more capable CPU/RAM combination.
Last yearâs Moto G5 was a super handset for its launch price of ÂŁ159, with the Moto G5 Plus providing a more expansive â and slightly more expensive â option. So it is with the G6 and G6 Plus, with a price difference of ÂŁ50 and a considerable hike in specification for that premium.
The trend of releasing âstandardâ and âplusâ handsets is slightly confusing, because âplusâ can signify many different things â a bigger screen, or more advanced internal specifications, for example. In the case of the Moto G6 range, the differences are almost entirely internal rather than external (see the comparison table below, which also includes the moto g6 Play with its high-capacity battery).
There is a slight difference in size between the G6 and the G6 Plus â but itâs literally a couple of millimetres of height and width, and just 0.3mm of thickness. Both have a tall form factor, to accommodate an 18:9 aspect ratio screen.
The 5.9-inch Moto G6 Plus measures 75.5mm x 160mm x 8mm and weighs 167g. Itâs powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 630 chipset with 4GB of RAM and comes with 64GB of internal storage. MicroSD storage expansion is available.

The lens housing for the dual rear cameras (12MP and 5MP) protrude noticeably from the casing.

The industrial design and build quality has a premium feel to it. The long back edges curve sedately into the sides, making this an easy handset to fit snugly into the palm. The reflective, glassy back makes the handset very slippy, somewhat neutralising the palm-friendly effect of the those curved long edges, but itâs very much in vogue, and can be found in flagship handsets like the Huawei P20 Pro and Sony Xperia XZ2.
The glassy back isnât a particular fingerprint magnet, but it did seem to attract more dust than the phones sitting right beside it during the review period. The dual cameras protrude a long way from the back of the handset â a necessary if inelegant design compromise. Itâs nice to see a 3.5mm headset slot sitting on the bottom edge next to the USB-C connector.
Top ZDNET Reviews
The one real design fault is the location of the fingerprint sensor. Thereâs barely 13mm of bezel beneath the screen. Immediately below the screen is the Motorola branding, and then, as close to the bottom of the handset as it could possibly be, is the fingerprint sensor. This location is the most awkward imaginable, and I dropped the phone several times trying to use it one-handed. The saving grace is that itâs fast and efficient â as, incidentally, is the face unlock.
The SIM card caddy is on the top edge. Where some handsets offer a choice of either second SIM or MicroSD storage, the Moto G6 Plus lacks a second SIM option, offering just a MicroSD card caddy. This may well prove useful because 12.82GB of the handsetâs 64GB of internal storage is consumed right out of the box.
The G6 Plus has a more powerful processor than the G6 in its octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 with 4GB of RAM. Itâs certainly no slouch, handling all of the use cases I tried out during the test period with no trouble.
The 5.9-inch 18:9 aspect ratio screen has a fairly standard 1,080-by-2160 pixel resolution (409ppi) and could use a little more brightness, but is clear and sharp. A colour mode tweaker allows you to alter vibrancy and colour temperature, and a Night Display mode makes reading ebooks for lengthy periods easier on the eye. Night Display isnât available through the general display settings, though â you have to go through the Moto App to access it.
The Moto App is where you access features such as Attentive Display and the blue-light-reducing Night Display.
Images: Sandra Vogel/ZDNet
The Moto App sits right in the middle of the home screen and offers a range of services and system tweaks. Here you can toggle Attentive Display, which keeps the screen on when itâs being looked at, as well as set up Night Display, which can be turned on and off manually or set to start and stop at specific times.
The Moto App also offers a host of gesture-based features such as putting three fingers on the screen to take a screenshot and using a âdouble karate chopâ to toggle the torch. You can also set up fingerprint login and toggle Moto Voice for voice commands. Thereâs a lot here, and much of it is useful, but Iâd prefer Moto Appâs functionality to be integrated with the general Android Settings.
Another Moto App feature, Moto Actions, lets you activate gestures like a double karate chop to turn on the torch.
Images: Sandra Vogel/ZDNet
The Moto App is not quite the only addition made to Android 8.0 Oreo. The app drawer has a link to install LinkedIn and another for Outlook, neither of which can be uninstalled.
The biggest surprise with the Moto G6 Plus is the dual 12MP/5MP camera system at the rear, which delivers far higher output quality than the handsetâs price might suggest. Images are clear, sharp and bright, and low-light performance seems pretty good. The secondary 5MP camera plays its part too, offering fancy features such as a blurred background for portraits, and a very nice âspot colourâ mode which lets you tap any area and just retain that colour, with the rest of the image captured in black-and-white. There is a slight shutter lag, which is a bit of an irritant, but overall the camera impresses.
The 3200mAh battery has a slightly higher capacity than that of the Moto G6, and it coped reasonably well with driving the more demanding processor and slightly larger screen. It delivered the claimed âall dayâ battery life, although a morning recharge was required every day during testing. The fast-charging USB-C connector made that process pretty quick.

Conclusions
The Moto G6 Plus delivers a lot of handset for a competitive price. More internal storage would be nice, but at least a MicroSD card slot is available for external expansion. Battery life could be better and the fingerprint sensor is in a very awkward location. The camera is really impressive for a handset at this price, and the same can be said of the hardware styling. Fans of Moto handsets should find plenty to like here.

An Introduction
The inauguration of the Finnish brand name carrying pure Android platform was occurred earlier this year with the release of Nokia 6 in China exclusively. Later it followed in other regions and then global launch of the Nokia 6 was happened during the Mobile World Congress, when HMD Global â the new home of Nokia phones additionally launched Nokia 5 and Nokia 3. Nokia 6 hit the Pakistan market in August and went on sale for Rs. 27,900/- (or ~$265).
Global Nokia 6 has visually less differences than the Chinese model but features wise, the global model has improvements specially with software optimization. There could also be some hardware differences, specially the main camera module. The price however is much balanced according to other markets, considering the local taxes and import duty fees. But sure, the most important thing is, how it stands among the competition. For that, weâll consider Huawei Y7 Prime and Samsungâs J7 Prime to compare against Nokia 6 in this review whenever possible and applicable.
To give you a little about its standing, Nokia 6 is the most expensive smartphone among the trio â Nokia 3, 5 and 6. HMD seems to have done justice to tag the pricing with these new Nokia phones as these divide the features well. However, when compared to other brands, itâs a bit expensive than Huaweiâs counterpart and a little cheaper than Samsungâs.
Nokia 6 â Features
Nokia 6 takes on with the features from Nokia 5 â the review and improves on with the build and design, enhanced and larger display, better camera. Nokia 6 features the same Qualcommâs Snapdragon 430 system-on-chip as Nokia 5, with exactly same configuration of eight cores of Cortex-A53 clocked at 1.4GHz and Adreno 505 graphics processing unit. However you get more RAM and more storage for the added price tag â 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage respectively.
There is another model of Nokia 6 which is not yet released â Arte Black variant boasts 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Even though there are

Main camera takes nice shots.
Autofocus camera on front also takes nice shots
Cons
CPU is more basic for the price. Snapdragon 6xx would have been better.
No USB Type-C
Battery is not enough.
No fast charging.
Nokia 6 â Unboxing
Nokia 6 comes in exactly a same retail box as Nokia 3 or Nokia 5. The layout is exactly same in white color as well as the back of the box prints key features of the Nokia 6 along side a profile image. On the front, thereâs graphic that illustrates the traditional Nokia language of âConnecting peopleâ with hand-shake but in rather new style.
Likewise, the box is slim and has a slide-out design that after removing the wrapper you can pull out the inner container with the nob provided. The retail package brings along everything basic and standard.

Nokia 6 Build, Design, and Display
As told earlier HMD has done a good job designing the trio and pricing them accordingly. Nokia 6 among them sure has most sturdy and tough design with premium feel. Though it looks bulky, Nokia 6 is only 9 grams heavier than Nokia 5 probably due to curved frame of the latter.
This larger Nokia 6 also receives similar points by us for its design, as Nokia 5 did. Itâs very unlikely any brand would put its mid-ranger smartphone into such a sturdy metal outfit. Itâs sturdy and tough in matte finish, though the flat sides with chamfered edges are pretty helpful in handling â unlike Nokia 5 which could slip out of hands with its curved sides and corners. The plastic stripes are also managed in a better way only on the back side, goes just round the edges.
Weighing 169 grams, Nokia 6 hardly outweighs Galaxy J7 Prime or Huawei Y7 Prime, whereas the 6 stands just between the two when compared to their sizes. Sure the 6 is a lot tougher than the other two. If you put the durability, reliability and that sturdiness aside for a second, Nokia 6 also has descent looks. Itâs built from a single block of aluminium and it feels much premium for the price tag it carries.

Nokia 6 â Hands-on | Image â KA/TechProlonged
Some of you may not feel comfortable with its flat edges on your palm of hands but they are not that bad at all and not painful. Rather they give a perfect grip unlike, Nokia 5 or Nokia 3. When compared to rivals, frankly like Nokia 5, the 6 also takes more points with regard to its design and build quality than the J7 Prime, Y7 Prime or any other brand including Moto G5 which is also the most closest rival in terms of price and specs.
Chamfered edges are on each side â back and front, are left shiny without the device color which is also good in its way â but this could lead to easy start point for scratches.
#gallery-0-63 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-63 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-63 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-63 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Nokia 6 â chamfered edges and flat frame sides | Image â KA/TechProlonged
The tempered blue color we have here is impressively good looking, Iâll recommend to buy this over the matte black variant. But if you prefer to have something that is less pron to scratches, go for a silver one. Well, I do not mean that itâs scratch resistant but silver will hide the scratches better than any other dark color.
2.5D curved glass is impressively smooth, just like old Nokia Lumia smartphones. Itâs Gorilla Glass for sure for protection. The front glass directly meets into the metal frame where no thin plastic frame comes in between. Thatâs something important in comparison within this this class of smartphones and impressively Nokia 5 and Nokia 3 also has the same thing.
Controls and Components
Audio and Connectivity
Nokia 6, like most, comes with all common components and controls on board including the 3.5mm audio jack on top and a micro USB port on bottom along side the a loud speaker â like Nokia 5, the 6 also has got support with a smart amplifier, TFA9891Â â the one Google Pixel XL was shipped with.
#gallery-0-65 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-65 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-65 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-65 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Primary mic or mouthpiece is located at the bottom as well along side the micro USB port. If you canât see the second speaker around it â it still has dual-speakers. Nokia 6 uses the earpiece as the second loudspeaker to create stereo sound. The 6 features Dolby ATMOS certified sound after all.
Power/Volume and SIM/Memory Slots
Power button and the volume buttons are located on the right hand side of the phone to ease your thumb reach. While on the left side of the phone, there is a hybrid slot for dual-SIM cards or a single SIM + microSD card for storage expansion.
#gallery-0-66 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-66 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-66 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-66 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Nokia 5, in that case offers to use both SIM cards and a memory card simultaneously with two dedicated slots for each.
Antenna and Rear Profile
Antenna stripes occupy the top and bottom sides edges of the phone on its back. Shoulder-like design of the plastic stripes stay at the edge of the frame but do not cross into the frame sides. Secondary mic is also there on the back of the phone for noise cancellation and stereo audio recording â you can look above the camera module which is extruded a little bit.
#gallery-0-67 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-67 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-67 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-67 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
In the middle portion, thereâs a âNokiaâ branding and some device labels on the lower portion.
Front Profile
On the front, you can see that the upper portion of the screen is printing the brand name âNokiaâ on the corner more like the late Lumia designs. In the middle we have an earpiece whereas the front camera is located between the earpiece and the Nokia branding. Front-camera features screen-flash to brighten up the nearer subject for some better selfies.
#gallery-0-68 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-68 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-68 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-68 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Lower portion on the front side is just similar to Nokia 5âs with a capacitive âhomeâ button in the middle. It also has an embedded fingerprint scanner. On the sides there are âbackâ and ârecentâ apps key â these are back-lit thankfully.
Nokia 6 Display
Nokia 6 features a 5.5-inch IPS display with full HD resolution of 1920Ă1080 pixels. It has the higher pixel density than of the basic Nokia 3 and the middle man Nokia 5. With 401 pixels per inch, you will get better and sharper display performance in reading, viewing, playing, watching etc. Glass on the 6 is also comparatively smoother and nice to touch.
With all the recent Nokia phones, HMD did good with impressive display in such a price range. Itâs very bright at its maximum setting as well as colors are also pleasant. Automatic brightness control also works well to manage with the ambient light. Black levels are not that impressive, hence contrast ratio is good but not that great. Surprisingly, the 6âs display is little less brighter than Nokia 5 but HMD has intentionally stated the difference in their product specifications as 450 nits and 500 nits respectively.
In addition to laminated display, thereâs sunlight visibility option that also boosts the viewing experience on the phone when you are outdoors. Checkout the following display comparison with Huawei Y7 Prime and Nokia 6. Nokia 3 is also included.
[iframe width=â850âł height=â480âł src=âhttps://www.youtube.com/embed/YEcL5lc9g8s?rel=0&showinfo=0″ frameborder=â0âł allowfullscreen=âyesâ]
The smooth glass on Nokia 6 has the anti-glare coating (aka oleophobic coating) that helps remove the fingerprints very easily. They in fact appear very less than on the screen without coating. Difference can be seen when compared against Y7 Prime.

[nextpage title=âSoftware and User Interfaceâ]
Nokia 6 â Software & User Interface
With the initial lineup of Nokia branded smartphones, HMD decided to go for plain stock software experience with a little bit custom touch. Like Nokia 5 and Nokia 4, the 6 also packs with pure Android features that Google ships with its own set of apps.
Hence Nokia 6 runs Android Nougat platform (Android 7.1.1) straight out of the box with its own theme. The user experience is mostly similar to the Google Pixel but with its own set of icons which are mostly blue. Very first look at the home screen tells that there is no icon for app launcher in the sticky row of apps on the bottom. Instead, a little caret provided right above that row of app icons that you can simply tap once or more pleasantly pull it up to open the app drawer. Similarly you can swipe the app drawer down to close it. Well thatâs exactly the same in middle Nokia 5 and the basic Nokia 3.
You have to stick with just that blue icon pack as theme can not be customized on Nokia 6. Lock screen is also simple with the options to unlock with swipe or a short cut to swipe from a camera icon on the right-bottom corner which takes directly to the camera app. That camera shortcut on the lock screen actually by-passes any security and takes you to the camera app. However that only allows to take photos or record videos, as you can not go beyond the camera app in case if the security is in place.
Lock Screen and Security
Notifications are listed on the lock screen in standard Nougat style â grouped, expandable and quick actions like replying to messages. You can set the security level as how could notifications be listed on lock screen. In following the example all three possible options were shown.
#gallery-0-69 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-69 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; } #gallery-0-69 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-69 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Lock screen with notifications ⢠Security enabled with fingerprint
Home Screen and App Drawer
Home screen gives you a blue shot at once when you unlock the phone. All system icons reflect Nokiaâs blue color. And certainly, you can not change them. You might or might not get used to with the same/single colored/circled icons. However it could be hard for you to identify what you are looking for, at first.
Thankfully, this blue theme is only limited to standard apps â such as phone, text, contacts, camera, etc. Third party apps that you download, come with their own icons and arenât overridden by system theme. Likewise, Google apps also have their own icons with distinct colors which you normally know them with. The system, however may modify the icons only to mask them in circular shapes.
#gallery-0-70 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-70 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; } #gallery-0-70 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-70 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Nokia 6, Android 7.1.1. Nougat, Home screen ⢠Folder open ⢠App drawer
Everything is pretty much same in experience like choosing app icons from the app drawer and placing them onto home screen or organizing them into folders. Adding, removing home screens and placing widgets in those home screens, etc.
Customizing Home Screen, Background Tasks, Split Screen
Home screen can be turned into edit mode by just a long press in a free space or by a pinch-in gesture on the screen.
#gallery-0-71 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-71 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; } #gallery-0-71 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-71 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
⢠Customize home screen ⢠widgets ⢠wallpapers ⢠Overview of open apps ⢠Multi-window / Split Screen
The task switcher or recent apps view appears as standard Android rolodex with app snapshots that you can swipe away to close. A cross button is also provided on each snapshot. All apps can be closed with a single tap on âClear Allâ, however, to reveal that close all button you need to swipe the rolodex all the way down â thatâs not really convenient.
Split screen can be initiated by a long-tap on ârecent appsâ key when an app is already open is supported to be viewed in split screen. Even though Nougat has provided the built-in support for split screen, but frankly, you donât want it on a small screen with not enough resolution. Anyway, 1080p and 5.5-inch display of Nokia 6 is better than the smaller Nokia 5.
Google App (Google Now) and Google Assistant
Coming back to home screen, Google App (Google Now) lies on the far left home-screen by default. It can be turned off via settings from home screen edit mode.
#gallery-0-72 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-72 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; } #gallery-0-72 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-72 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
⢠Google App ⢠Home screen settings ⢠ Google Assistant â˘
Google App on home screen is quick and fluent like itâs just a part of the home screen. It doesnât give a kind of impression for being an app at all. You also donât see it in currently running apps. On the other hand, a long-tap on the home button initiates the Google Assistant.
Status bar and Notifications
The top status bar is the stock one that you can pull out by swiping down. Itâs the two-step pull-down panel with a quick set of toggles and the notification below them. The second swipe-down on the panel will expand the quick toggles section to provide more options with more glance. In addition, you also get access to the brightness controller. However you can not turn on/off the adaptive/auto brightness. For that you have to go to settings > display.
#gallery-0-73 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-73 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; } #gallery-0-73 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-73 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Pull-down with quick toggles & notifications ⢠2nd pull-down for more toggles, Edit toggles and switches, User Accounts
The quick actions or toggles can be customized right from there by editing them and adding or removing them. Standard Android âusersâ feature is also available on Nokia 6 and can be reached right from the status bar. More options are available in âSettingsâ app.
Add-on Gestures & Motions
Last but not the least, there are some gestures and motions which can be accessed from Settings > Accessibility. Only a couple options of âMute on pickupâ and âTurn over to reject callâ.
#gallery-0-74 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-74 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; } #gallery-0-74 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-74 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

Nokia 6 Performance
As stated in introduction section already, the Nokia 6 is powered by the Qualcommâs lower mid-range Snapdragon 430 system-on-chip. Inside, an octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU is running clocked at 1.4GHz.
This mid-ranger was launched in 3GB and 4GB RAM models with 32GB and 64GB storage respectively. However, the one we have here for review is the 3GB RAM model. 3GB + 32GB combo, according to me, is the minimum must-have package to have your Android phone run smooth with enough storage to keep moderate number of apps and games. But HMD could have chosen the Snapdragon 6xx series chip for Nokia 6.
The two contenders we selected to compare throughout the review â Samsungâs Galaxy J7 Prime and Huaweiâs Y7 Prime also have pretty much similar configuration. Though, Y7 Prime has an updated variant of the chip as Snapdragon 435 while the J7 Prime carries the proprietary Exynos chip. The thing is all of them have eight-core CPU with Cortex-A53 cores. J7 Prime is clocked a little bit higher at 1.6GHz and features a dual-core Mali T830 GPU whereas both the Y7 Prime and Nokia 6 have Qualcommâs Adreno 505 to operate on graphics.
[videojs mp4=âhttps://onedrive.live.com/download?cid=182152EEBD704766&resid=182152EEBD704766%2176821&authkey=%21APKN7USufOaMTY8″ loop=âtrueâ autoplay=âtrueâ preload=âautoâ controls=âfalseâ]
A few games tried on Nokia 6 â were Subway Surfer, NFS No Limit, Asphalt Xtreme and Modern Combat 5. They worked fine without lag or freezing â but do note a little warm up. Apps usually started without lag. See above, the Subway Surfer starting delay on Huawei Y7 Prime, Nokia 6 and Nokia 5.
Trialing Nokia 6 with some benchmark suits gave mixed results. Some tools gave higher numbers to the 6 while at others it stays among the lower numbers. Starting the famous AnTuTuâs all in one benchmark scores, Nokia 6 took followed by Galaxy J7 Prime and Huaweiâs Y7 Prime.
Then Geekbench 4 â also a popular benchmark tool that individually test a device for single-core and multi-core tasks. Nokia 6 just stands below the Galaxy J7 Prime and Huawei Y7 Prime in multi-core test. But sure that could be the implementation of different vendors as you can notice the Moto G5 with exactly same configuration as of Nokia 6 but it even stands below the Nokia 5 with 2GB RAM.
Interestingly, Nokia 5 took the lead in single-core test with only 2GB RAM where others have 3GB of RAM with pretty much similar and identical processors.
Qualcommâs own benchmark tool which is no more offered by Google Play â Vellamo is still our main tool for testing a phone at three dimensions multi-core, single-core (metal) and a browser test. Nokia 6 takes the lead here in multi-core and metal tests.
Metal test could only give a minor margin to Nokia 6 compared to Galaxy J7 Prime, whereas Huawei Y7 Prime is far below.
Nokia 6 couldnât win the browser test among the device we are comparing in this review. But still stands above Y7 Prime.
Another third party tool â Basemark OS II tests the device for various tasks and delivers an overall score in addition to individual scores. We arenât putting the individual bits here, just take a glimpse at overall scores from the tool where Nokia 6 stands just below the J7 Prime but shows better numbers than Y7 Prime. Margin is very small here.
Here comes the gaming factor, where Basemark X gives Nokia 6 a third spot but again Nokia 5 takes the margin here. Huawei Y7 Primes shows interesting result here.
As told above, Nokia 6 is good with Snapdragon 430 chipset â it performs well but still not marginally impressive than the other lot. Specially when we see Nokia 5 standing right beside the 6 â in fact higher at some tests, we believe Nokia 6 would have been a better stage with recent Snapdragon 6xx series chipset.
Nokia 6 â Battery Performance
3000mAh battery is exactly same in Nokia 6 as we had in Nokia 5. But the performance on the 6 is not quite impressive. With a 5.5-inch screen and 1080p display resolution, Nokia 6 has to take most of the battery juice. The processor on the other hand is not enough power efficient that could manage to balance.
During our tests, video playback, camera and GPS navigation are not enough optimized to save battery life. Add web browsing to the list as well when you are using WiFi. Nokia 6 would hardly manage to give you a full day if you keep yourself limited to very basic usage â you can add a couple of minutes browsing, youtube playback, some social interaction, and might end up within 18 hours. Push it a little more, add some camera usage and/or navigation, expect not to have more than 12 hours with Nokia 6.
Nokia 5, in this case is just out of question â but Huawei Y7 Prime which are taking as a key contender to Nokia 6, is much better with its power management.
[nextpage title=âCamera â Photos and Video Qualityâ]
Nokia 6 Camera
Nokia 6 has pretty much decent 16-megapixel primary camera that delivers vibrant, yet controlled, color output. The shots are not over saturated.
Nokia 6 features a 16 megapixels camera on the back which is autofocus and uses phase detection to focus subject. The image sensor inside has pixels of size 1.0Âľm. Lens on top has f/2.0 aperture while a dual-tone dual-LED flash supports the whole unit. When shot at maximum resolution, the images come out as 4:3 aspect ratio until you choose to take 12-MP shots for 16:9 wide shots.
If you have been a fan of Nokiaâs dedicated camera shutter button, then we are sorry that the new Nokia Androids do not have that. However the software allows you to use Power button to open the camera app, when you press it twice and volume button to take the shot â I am not interested in that however.
So letâs just talk about the native camera app and the user interface. First thing, the camera interface is just simple exactly as we have seen in Nokia 5 or Nokia 3.
Camera App Operations
The camera starts with the viewfinder and three elements on the bottom â shutter release in the middle, video switch on the left and a gallery shortcut on the right. There are a couple of toggles on top row â right side. Rear/Front camera switch, shot timer, HDR (on/off/auto), and Flash (on/off/auto). As told, if you choose to shoot at the resolution above 12MP, youâll be shooting at 4:3 aspect ratio, hence youâll have the viewfinder accordingly.
#gallery-0-75 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-75 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; } #gallery-0-75 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-75 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Camera UI ⢠Still photo features ⢠Video recording features
In still photos mode, you get to choose from normal photo, panorama shots and beautify mode. While in video mode, you can set the speed of recording with 1x, 2x and 3x. 1/2x (60fps) when maximum resolution is set to 720p, and 1/3x (90fps) at 480p. Standard 1080p videos do not support higher frame-rate.
Settings Menu
As said, the user interface follows in current Nokia Android lineup. Menu has the options to turn on/off the compass, grid lines (rule of thirds), capture settings (auto/manual), shutter control (burst shots), watermark. You can choose whether to use volume key as shutter release. Finally you can set resolution for photos and videos for both front and rear cameras separately.
#gallery-0-76 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-76 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 20%; } #gallery-0-76 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-76 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Watermark Options
Nokia 6 camera features watermark option to set on pictures. You can choose place custom text, weather, city, etc. The option lets you to place the watermark in different sizes and transparency as well as you can align them across the frame.
#gallery-0-77 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-77 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; } #gallery-0-77 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-77 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
The option also offers to store both the only-watermarked images and the images with and without watermark. Latter option sure would take around double the space on the phone.
Manual Control
Nokia 6 also features the same Manual Control we have seen in Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 which is not what you think at first impression. Itâs not like a full âManual controlâ like we have seen in old Nokia devices or more recently in Huawei devices. It doesnât let you choose shutter speed nor you can choose ISO of your desire.
Nokia 6 only offers to set metering (auto/evaluative/center-weighted), focus (auto/infinity/macro), white balance (auto/daylight/cloudy/shade/fluorescent/incandescent) and exposure compensation (full stop increments -2/+2ev).
#gallery-0-78 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-78 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; } #gallery-0-78 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-78 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
While most of the things in manual settings above we usually see in most devices but the focus options are from the old Nokia phones which usually offered âinfinityâ mode to keep everything in focus while the âmacroâ mode lets you get as closest to the object as possible by the camera.
Photo Quality
Nokia 6 has an impressive shooter for its price. It delivers nice level of detail and sharpness is also good. Noise is remarkably controlled and only visible if go deep into image at 1:1. Contrast is also appreciable as well as the colors are quite vibrant without being too over-saturated â only for the price point, I am talking. Dynamic range is not that impressive though, for which HDR mode could do some better job.

Nokia 6 Camera Samples â Outdoor, Mixed Daylight, Sunny/Cloudy
Low-light shots show some noise but not badly. The images still have nice detail and sharpness. Colors are well managed to what your eyes were seeing. Some special environments with fancy lighting could also be captured with well-controlled color noise in dark parts of the frame.
[slickr-flickr search=âsetsâ set=â72157686226316614âł ]
Nokia 6 Camera Samples â Low-light, Indoor, Night Shots
Usually we expect pixelated image with a digital zoom as itâs the enlarged image of a crop portion from actual resolution. We donât even bother to test that but a shot that I took of a monument from around 200 meters with the zoom slider full up, that photo impressed me on the phone screen. Normally you can identify the crippled pixels right on the phone when you take the shot but the one from Nokia was pleasing though. However here it is the shot that you can see in 1:1 size to see those pixelated edges on your screen.

Nokia 6 Camera Samples â Zoom Level: 1x (left) â 2x (right)
Portraits are good and sharp. The last one was shot during the sunset, hence has some visible noise if you zoom in and look at ti. The first two shots were taken indoor with flash-strobe while the remaining two didnât require any lighting in the bright sunny day.

HDR Shots
What better subject could be to tell the detail in an image, than the texture of the distant tree leaves. To tackle the dynamic range issue, HDR mode works well in Nokia 6 to brighten up the shadows while keeping the highlight clipping in control on the background.

Panorama
Panorama shots also seemed good with no loss of detail and controlled noise. No stitching issues, no exposure variation. The are good indeed.

Front Camera
Once again, the 8 megapixel front-facing camera on Nokia 6 is autofocus. It has a little larger pixel size than its primary camera â 1.12um. Lens on the other hand has an aperture of f/2.0 with 84-degrees field of view. Autofocus is literally plausible on the front camera, much better to tap and focus than the vast variety of fixed-focus front cameras around us. Quality wise, it delivers good contrast and pleasing colors. Focus does the job well in bright light but most of the indoor shots we tried were not accurately focused.
[slickr-flickr search=âsetsâ set=â72157686226316814âł ]
Video Recording
Nokia 6 supports up to 1080p resolution in video recording with 30fps which is not too great to tell. Higher frame rate can be used only with lower resolution footage. With 720p recording you can go up to 60fps (1/2x on the viewfinder) or with 480p resolution you can further achieve 90fps (or 1/3x on the viewfinder). Whatâs important is the quality of video you record and Nokia 6 doesnât exactly disappoint. Sharp across the frame, contrast is good and colors are vivid.
Full HD 1080p videos ends up on the phone with the bitrate of 20.5Mbps and stereo audio at 96Kbps. 20Mbps means the video clip is going to have more size than most smartphones do with up to 17Mbps. Following clip.

You can download untouched SOOC video footage file from (One Drive 36MB) if you are interested to checkout non-edited video clip unlike the one embedded from YouTube above.
[nextpage title=âConclusion & Verdictâ]
Nokia 6 Review Conclusion and Verdict
Finally the section you want the most â the conclusion. Letâs start with the bad thing first here today â battery. Itâs not something you will appreciate on the phone which truly needed one before it could wear a crown in its class.
We know that Nokia 6 has the same same chip which is powering its little brother â Nokia 5, and the 5 could manage to deliver nicely on the same 3000mAh battery. Then there are factors on the 6 which actually needed more battery power than this. Such as the 6 has larger display with higher resolution, it has a different camera that requires more CPU power to operate, there could be issue with software optimization as well. But we indeed can not justify the what it got in managing the power. Youâll have to manage with that if you go for Nokia 6.
Good thing is that, there is nothing else we disliked about Nokia 6. Build quality is not matchable to any other smartphone in its class, the design is appealing with its decency and the premium factor. However I personally never liked the fingerprint scanner on the front home button â rear mounted one is more easily reachable for me.
Display is also competitive with among the lot with its less reflections and brighter outdoors â though Nokia 5âs display outperformed. Sunlight visibility feature is also there to add more power to display when you want to read under bright daylight.
Software on the other hand could have mixed favors from consumers. Pure Android could be less interesting for some where others may want exactly a clean Android phone. Nougat currently out of the box is sure a positive thing + itâs bound to receive Android O â now Oreo. Developers now have access to most affordable devices with pure Android OS.
Both the cameras, front and rear, are also appreciable on this mid-ranger. Primary camera does the job well with its image quality. Its colors, contrast, dynamic range handling, very low noise but detailed image are all surprisingly good. Front camera on the other hand with the autofocus sensor also surprises with more accurate focus than the fixed-focus front cameras. It also produces nice color rendering and contrast too.
Still with the key similar specifications, Huawei Y7 Prime and Samsungâs J7 Prime worth looking at. The latter is old now with only storage difference that it comes with 16GB and also runs Android 6 yet receiving security patches. New replacements from the Korean smartphone maker have already been available but a successor to J7 Prime is yet to be launched.
#gallery-0-79 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-79 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-79 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-79 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Left: Samsung J7 Prime (2016) ⢠Right: Huawei Y7 Prime
Huaweiâs Y7 Prime on the other hand is really a good contender with Nokia 6 in all aspects but the build quality and the camera of Nokia 6 has more score.
