After 7 hours of "what would you choose between this dish and this dish? What about that dish and that dish? Oh, well I've already had them all but just thought I'd ask. How much does this cost with tax?" from two-dollar-tipping Howard girls (where's the love, H.U.?) . . . After 7 hours of said shenanigans, sometimes you will try to go home only to find that the train station closed early on yo' ass and your Uber app isn't working. I just made more money singing and dancing with about 300 children ages 3 to 5 for 3 hours than I made in the last 3 days (almost 30 working hours) of busting my buttocks waiting tables in somebody's restaurant. I say this to you because I want you to know that you can do it too. Discover what you love to do and find ways to get paid to do it. Learn how your special, unique skill set can be used to fulfill someone else's needs. Be earnest in your intent, innovative in your execution, and iconic in your image. Call on your friends to connect you with their resources and relationships. It won't be easy or overnight, but if we're going to spend most of our lives working anyway, wouldn't you rather be working for yourself than for someone else? Think about it: most of us spend more time working than we do eating, sleeping, being with family and friends, having sex, or doing anything else that we enjoy.
