ROBBIE ENCOUNTERS THE MOTHMAN - Cryptid Hunter Robbie Huntington checks out The Mothman statue in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. This metal monster represents the local legend of the Mothman: a strange flying humanoid creature allegedly witnessed by dozens of locals in and around the towns of Point Pleasant, West Virginia and Gallipolis, Ohio in 1966-67. Sightings of the unknown monster abruptly ended after the tragic collapse of the Silver Bridge on December 15, 1967 which took the lives of 46 locals - one of the worst of such disasters in history. The town of Point Pleasant holds an annual Mothman Festival each year in September to remember the Mothman Mystery and the areas rich and strange history. The world's only Mothman Museum can be found next to the statue. The Mystery of the Mothman has never been fully explained. The sculpture is by Robert Roach. MOTHMAN IN THE SPACECRAFT NEWS - A rare copy of famed UFO/Conspiracy Writer/Publisher Gray Barker's "Spacecraft News," Issue No. 3 (June, 1967 - published by Saucerian Books, Clarksburg, W.V.), featuring an early rendition of the Mysterious Mothman, on display at the Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Barker was an early UFO genre writer who wrote about (and influenced) many of the sensational tales associated with the "Mothman" and "Men In Black" legends. THE HUNTINGTON BOYS ENCOUNTER THE MOTHMAN - Robbie and Sammie check out The Mothman statue in Point Pleasant, West Virginia (They seemed more interested in the creature's shadow than his statue, however). This monstrous metal sculpture recounts the local legend of the Mothman: a strange flying humanoid creature allegedly witnessed by dozens of locals in and around the towns of Point Pleasant, West Virginia and Gallipolis, Ohio in 1966-67. KEEL HONORED IN POINT PLEASANT - Some of author John Keel's personal items - including one of his jackets - on display at the Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. John Keel (1930-2009) is a highly relevant figure in Point Pleasant's strange history as he was one of the primary investigative journalist covering the bizarre events associated with the Mothman Encounters in 1966-67 and the tragic Silver Bridge collapse which followed. It was his influential book, "The Mothman Prophecies" (1975), that told the town's weird tales and propelled the legend into the popular culture. The Mothman Mythology has taken on a life of it's own with the famous cryptid being featured in a variety of films, television shows, video games, books, and a varied assortment of art and merchandising in the popular culture. Aside from Point Pleasant's Mothman Museum, the town now celebrates (and benefits from) it's monstrous urban legend with a heavily-attended annual Mothman Festival which owes much of it's successful - and profitable - existence to John's Keel's sensational literary interpretations of the events that spawned the Mothman Legend. INSIDE THE MOTHMAN MUSEUM - Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Diane Huntington checks out the numerous artifacts, clippings, documents, and memorabilia related to the people and events involving the weird cryptid creature known as "The Mothman" at The World's Only Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant - the town near where the bizarre encounters and occurrences took place 50 years ago. This unique museum was the place to be, and the center of activity, during our visit to the 15th Annual Mothman Festival. Thousands attend this fun celebration each year to help benefit the town and to explore it's fascinating (and strange) history. INDRID COLD AND THE MOTHMAN PHONE - The hotel room telephone Richard Gere's character used to talk to the mysterious "Indrid Cold" in the 2002 horror-thriller "The Mothman Prophecies." This prop is on display at the Mothman Museum in the town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia - where the film (and the 1975 John Keel book it was loosely based upon) takes place. In the story, the mysterious Indrid Cold (possibly an alien being or a "Man In Black") relayed strange cryptic messages through the phone, warning of impending doom connected with sightings of a bizarre flying creature known as "The Mothman." CHECKING FOR MOTHMEN UNDER THE SILVER BRIDGE - Diane and the Boys do a thorough check under the Silver Memorial Bridge to make sure it is free of pesky Mothmen during our stay in Gallipolis, Ohio in 2016. We were here to celebrate the 15th Mothman Festival (and the 50th Anniversary of the legendary Mothman Mystery) in the weird and mysterious town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia just across the Ohio River. The Boys found no Alien Cryptids lurking in the dark shadows of the bridge’s beams and girders...this time.
