Season 2; episode 8. Abigail was sleep during the day. The Caramilla tapped into Abigail fear. And Raelle and tally had to remind Abigail what she was seeing wasn't real.

I hate that episode 8 felt like the weakest episode so far. Such a huge letdown because this is episode of the epic Raylla reunion. My personal opinion is that this episode was directed very poorly. We know Amalia can act. Her performance last season with the dungeon scene was legendary. But this episode… all her lines and the way she moves all seemed stiff and wooden. Maybe she was supposed to come across as awkward around Raelle after all this time apart, but awkward doesn’t mean she’s void of emotions. That first kitchen scene when Raelle went off about her mother (Taylor’s acting here was the bomb), seeing the love of your life in emotional pain like that and Scylla delivered all her lines with a flat affect and blank stare? Hm… it killed me when Scylla did that chin quivering, tears in her eye thing in ep 7 when Willa reassured her that she actually made the right choice to not bring Raelle to the Spree, that she protected Raelle, that was so subtle yet so powerful. Where was any of that in ep 8? And the transitions… the second scene of them back in the bed room seemed to refer that Scylla had told Raelle everything that has happened since they last saw each other. But I don’t think viewer would pick up on that on the first viewing. There are LOTS to pack into a 40min episode, I get it. But maybe before we cut away from the first scene, an offer from Scylla to tell Raelle everything would be helpful? We don’t need to SEE the conversation but we should know without a doubt it happened. It’s pivotal to Raelle’s beginning in understanding who Scylla really is to rebuild the trust that was broken. 

And some of the lines spoken by Scylla felt off and made her character seemed inconsistent and insincere. Like first saying she won’t walk away from Raelle again no matter what happens, but be the one to say she can’t go back to Fort Salem with Raelle. I felt if Raelle was the one to stop Scylla from following them back to Fort Salem it would have been so much better. And Scylla’s priorities have shifted for sure, that was already evident last season in ep 5 when she chose Raelle over the Spree. But to tell Raelle that it’s not about conscription anymore? That’s a radical shift in her core value system, one that was instilled in her since she was a child, after just a few months after escape from Fort Salem. I think she could have new revelations that killing innocents to get her message across is not the right way, but a complete change in her values that make who she is the way she is seemed unbelievable. It made me upset because it was a disservice to such a layered, deep, traumatized character.  

Lastly, I can’t get over how terrible the special effects are in ep 8, when it was so fantastic in ep 7! Why did they make Syclla look like that when she was doing the Windshear to protect the trio? We’ve seen Tally use Windshear in the abandon school in CityDrop, and the entire class using it to stop the truck… they looked freakin badass! They could have done so much better.  

Despite my criticism, I do have to admit I’ve rewatched the kiss over a million times. That one shot was really done beautifully, really had the season 1 feel. I just wished the rest of the episode had done that moment of Raylla coming back together justice. I really love this show, and I hope it picks up in the last 2 episode so I can recover from this one....
