"Comparison is the thief of joy." - Roosevelt If I can be honest, comparison has been one of my biggest struggles as a new mom. Comparing myself with other moms who always seem to have it put together and know what to do; comparing Aidan to other babies his age who are doing this or that and expecting him to be or act a certain way instead of allowing him to grow into his own person. I sometimes convince myself in my head that I'm not a good enough mom, that what I'm doing (or not doing) is going to ruin him... Mom guilt is so real, you guys. I've always thought that being great with kids means motherhood would come naturally to me, but it's proven to be the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. I sometimes fantasize about my carefree pre-baby days when all I had to think about was myself, and I see God slowly stripping away layers and layers of selfishness and showing me what true love looks like. And reminding me to look to Him and lean on Him at all times, that His grace is sufficient for me. And more importantly that my job is to point Aidan to Christ, not have him chase after accolades and achievements and things of the world. Tonight I am choosing to give thanks, for a healthy, happy baby who loves his Daddy and Mommy, who is showing us more and more of his sweet personality each day ❤️ Remembering in the tough moments that there was a time when we thought maybe we would never have a baby, and having him in our home has truly been the best miracle of our lives. Years ago, I always thought having kids would get in the way of "ministry" and what God might want me to do. I saw folks who chose to have kids as having given up on a "special" calling on their life (ha!). But years later, I know this IS my ministry and through them and their love for others, our reach has actually grown. We've been able to connect with our neighbors quicker and more deeply because our kids became friends. They have not gotten in the way. They are not holding me back. God is shaping me through them like nothing else could. He is chiseling away at my impatience and selfishness through these gifts and I firmly believe raising them to know and love the Lord is holy, eternal work. Yes, I'm wiping noses and breaking up fights today but in this dying of myself, I know I am finding my life. #getaftergrateful #1000gifts #motherhoodissanctifying

After an epic temper tantrum in a store, we spent some time with playdoh and making fish faces in the mirror.
