Solo Leveling Highschool AU!
Sung Jin-woo
• transferee in the school.
• gets lost in the middle of the hallway because he doesn't know where his classroom is located until a friendly student helps him and leads the way. The student introduces himself as Min Byung-gyu.
• when Jin-woo gets there, he's seated at the back in the second column. He is used to sitting next to the window a lot, but this time, there is already a student occupying the seat and snoozing.
• is quiet, reserved, and barely raises his hand. But when his name is called, Jin-woo answers correctly.
• has little doodles on his notebook if he's getting bored in lectures.
• signs up for the track and field.
• often gets picked up by two brothers from another class named Hwang Dong-soo and Hwang Dong-suk. Jin-woo chooses to ignore them, but when he has enough, he retaliates in a way that won't end him up at the principal's office or at the teacher's.
• if classes are dismissed early, Jin-woo stops by his little sister's school to pick her up.
• his first friend is a junior named Yoo Jin-ho, but among his classmates, his first friend is probably Byung-gyu (who checks up on him frequently) or Hae-in (since she's in the same sport as him).
• plays games on his phone when he has a vacant time, which got him closer to Byung-gyu, Tae-gyu, Hae-in, and Yoon-ho.
• classmates: Choi Jong-in, Cha Hae-in, Baek Yoon-ho, Min Byung-gyu, and Lim Tae-gyu.
Choi Jong-in
• president of the student council.
• known as the smartest student in school, but the students are divided on that topic since Cha Hae-in occasionally steals his spot.
• a master in essays and solving mathematical equations.
• basically has the trust of every teacher in school. Even the principal.
• doesn't join any sports clubs, only academic ones.
• makes tutoring his business. 100 won per hour, but 70 won if he's feeling magnanimous.
• doesn't like getting his lunch at the cafeteria since he has low patience, especially when he's hungry, so he usually goes out to the nearest convenience store outside school.
• hates it when the vending machines are low on snacks every time he uses them after classes, so Jong-in makes a rule to the students to limit getting snacks. He even has a secret camera attached somewhere.
• frequently scolds Tae-gyu for sleeping in class. Tae-gyu also pays him double when asking for tutoring in a certain subject — solely to stop Jong-in from scolding him in-between lessons.
• also argues with Baek Yoon-ho for several reasons.
• he's strict, yes, but he is kind in his own way and is ready to defend anyone from being bullied. He has the contact number of the principal, so Jong-in uses that to increase his threats.
• classmates: Cha Hae-in, Baek Yoon-ho, Sung Jin-woo, Lim Tae-gyu, and Min Byung-gyu.
Cha Hae-in
• vice president in the student council.
• is second smartest, but steals Jong-in's place, which ends the two in a competition (from Jong-in's perspective) even though they've been friends since elementary.
• is shy and isn't active as well. When called, she answers correctly without having a second to think.
• she and Jong-in often argue about which answer of theirs is correct during maths.
• is a track and field runner, which is a sport she has been passionate about, and has been trusted to teach the newbies.
• has a friendly rivalry with Choi Tae-woong, who is a fellow athlete.
• she's friendly, but only a few people know what she really is like as a person. Cha Hae-in often gets underestimated due to her kind and soft nature, but once she gets mad, she won't hesitate to release her ferocity.
• has the most organized notes ever and almost not a single erasure is seen.
• she listens to classical music when studying.
• has an unhealthy obsession with coffee while studying for a test and Jong-in has to be the one to stop her.
• classmates: Sung Jin-woo, Choi Jong-in, Baek Yoon-ho, Min Byung-gyu, and Lim Tae-gyu.
Baek Yoon-ho
• basketball player.
• is actually good at English and despite being involved with sports, he turns in his assignments at the perfect time.
• doesn't raise his hand on purpose and often looks bored in class, especially when he doesn't like the teacher.
• lives in the same apartment as Byung-gyu and Hee-jin, so they usually go to school together.
• has a close bond with his coach, Ma Dong-wook.
• is one of the few people who has never been bullied due to his intimidating persona and Yoon-ho can and will scare those who try to mess with him.
• helps teachers around. Some say that he does that only to get high grades, but Yoon-ho is naturally helpful and often tells teachers that they don't have to do something in return.
• carries a gym bag around that contains both of his jerseys and school supplies.
• always has a big container of water. It's only for him when training, but that doesn't stop his friends from asking for water.
• spends his lunchtime with his friends.
• his parents own a restaurant in a separate block from his apartment, so Yoon-ho often brings his friends there for a meal or group study.
• classmates: Cha Hae-in, Min Byung-gyu, Choi Jong-in, Lim Tae-gyu, and Sung Jin-woo.
Lim Tae-gyu
• tennis player.
• usually sleeps in class.
• doesn't have a particular subject he excels in unless it's P.E, though he manages to pass anyways.
• exams? Students are anxious and panicking? Tae-gyu thinks they're overreacting and continues minding his business.
• gets under some teachers' nerves sometimes, but as usual, Tae-gyu doesn't care and will still joke around them until they threaten him to fail in class.
• does his homework in school, but if he's around his friends after school, he'll do it already.
• hates being paired with someone he does not know or not close with.
• acts like he doesn't have a lot of money, but he is given 500 won worth of allowance every week.
• used to sit in the front of the class until some students start complaining they cannot see the writings on the board due to his hair.
• supports Jong-in on the snack limit of vending machines rule because he too has experiences of seeing an empty machine.
• despises when he's assigned to clean restrooms. Tae-gyu always has a spare facemask and surgical gloves. It never fails him to receive odd looks from his friends.
• classmates: Min Byung-gyu, Choi Jong-in, Sung Jin-woo, Baek Yoon-ho, and Cha Hae-in.
Min Byung-gyu
• the history nerd in class.
• is weak in maths, so he frequently asks Jong-in or Hae-in for help. But usually, it's Hae-in because he doesn't want to spend his allowance on Jong-in, who doesn't care whether they're friends or not in terms of tutoring.
• knows how to construct essays, not just because he has been taught in school, but due to him reading essays written by historical figures in his free time.
• has known Hee-jin and Yoon-ho since they were young, but hangs out with Yoon-ho the most since Hee-jin used to study in a different location until they finally enrolled into the same school.
• is friends with Eun-seok, who studies in a different school and the son of one of his mother's friends, after tutoring him. Their schedules are different, but Byung-gyu makes sure to include Eun-seok when hanging out during weekends.
• is the reason why the previous history teacher in his class quit because Byung-gyu kept correcting the mistakes in the lessons and even argued with that said teacher.
• reads manga and bonds with Tae-gyu and Jin-woo with it.
• allots some time to watch his friends practice at the gym or field. It's all fun until Hee-jin and Yoon-ho make him choose on whose game he'll attend.
• is also good at science and will help anyone who needs it for free. looking at you, Choi Jong-in!
• frequently stops by at the library, both in school and outside.
• classmates: Sung Jin-woo, Choi Jong-in, Baek Yoon-ho, Cha Hae-in, and Lim Tae-gyu.
Park Hee-jin
• a student from a different class.
• often waits for Yoon-ho and Byung-gyu so they can go home together.
• plays volleyball.
• specializes in science and studies geography in her free time.
• likes eating ice cream before going home.
• takes notes during classes, but when someone asks her if they could burrow, she declines. Last time she lend her notes, the papers returned to her with creases and worse, have traces of ink and other things that ruined her work.
• hates having Kim Chul as one of her group members during a project.
• due to her being a volleyball player, some students try not to make her mad otherwise Hee-jin will leave a red mark on their body. Even when she's laughing, she tends to hit people, so Yoon-ho and Byung-gyu choose to stay away from her as possible.
• classmates: Han Se-mi, Gina, Son Ki-hoon, Lee Min-sung, Kim Chul, and Yoo Soo-young.
Lee Ju-hee
• Jin-woo's friend from a different school. Public school, to be precise.
• an average student who doesn't pressure herself much in studies.
• uses a bicycle when going to school.
• has a cute little cousin who lives with her and whom she also teaches.
• likes studying by herself, but she also likes studying with her closest friends.
• gets easily anxious when speaking in front of class, especially when she has something to present. Ju-hee struggles with public speaking, but in the end, her friends praise her for doing well.
• classmates: Jung Ye-rim, Lee Bora, Eun-seok, and Esil Radiru (an exchange student from Russia and is still learning Korean).
Other characters:
• Go Gun-hee is the school principal.
• Woo Jin-chul is a mathematics teacher.
• Song Chi-yul is a history teacher (the new one).
• Ma Dong-wook is a P.E teacher/basketball coach.
• Ahn Sang-min is a science teacher.
• Norma Selner is an English teacher. (let's just say she got a promotion to become a teacher in Korea. She's still learning the language, but Gun-hee reassures her that her speaking in her original language will help students learn easily.)

Since book 7 part 5 (the part where we meet Meleanor/Maleanor 👀) is coming to EN this month, i would love to see your take on lilia’s proposal to meleanor! i mean they were like little kids right? it couldn’t have been that serious…i think the only reason she even brought it up again is because she could tell lilia still genuinely loved her…(even if he didn’t realize it himself?) but, oh well! Let’s think about silly childhood shenanigans to numb the pain! ^_^ (orz)
oh shit?! get ready for a doozy guys, it's comiiiiiing ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
I chickened out of posting the whole thing (look, I get VERY carried away when it comes to these wacky kids and their Tragedy), but I do believe that it probably ended with Lilia getting embarrassed and just shoving the first thing he sees into his mouth to try and cover for it.

it's interesting that despite all being the same age you can see a clear division of younger and older siblings within the Hargreeves siblings.
With five it's more obvious despite being mentally far older than all of them he looks like a child he looks like their much younger brother did when they lost him and so they treated him as such. But you can see that level out now to they still treat him like a younger brother but give him space to be an adult.
But for the other siblings that all remain the same age it's a nice little look into how parentification of the higher numbers and the wombification of the lowers ones by Hargreeves insane parenting methods created an artificial sibling age hierarchy amongst children of the same age.
Which is also why ben doesn't fit. He was number 6 to them but he was number 2 in his own family. They want to baby him but he is used to being looked to as an elder. it's also why him and Diego seem to clash the most can't be two number twos with complexes about being number two in the family it fucks the whole shit up

Vivienne's fear being 'becoming irrelevant' isn't something that's linked explicitly to her pride, no matter what Solas says about her (and the irony of Mr.Pride himself saying that should not be lost on you), it reveals what and who Vivienne truly is.
She's a survivalist.
Because we don't spend as much time in the Free Marches or Orlesian circles, we don't get to experience what being a mage is in these cultures. In Ferelden and Kirkwall, a mage is a lesser being without freedom no matter what they do--but in the Free Marches and Orlais specifically, mages are commodities that are given freedom so long as they play an entertaining enough role. They can explore the world if they have a noble patron, if they catch the right person's eye. They are, in a way, two sides of the same coin--refusing mages agency and forcing them to relay on higher powers. Vivienne lucked out, as sad as it is, when Bastion fell in love with her; she found someone who was contrarian enough to recognize her as a full person and also someone with power that could help her rise through the ranks. This is not to say that Vivienne on her own wasn't an exceedingly talented and intelligent individual--by nineteen she was already the youngest full fledged mage in Circle history and she was skilled enough to make herself an enchanter. But, I can not emphasize this enough, none of that matters if she didn't also play the Game and impress enough people.
Vivienne could have been the most brilliant mage in the history of Thedas and it means nothing if she was overlooked by nobility.
So when Bastion made her his mistress, she gained not just a lover but also a means to an end. Now she can use her magic to protect herself. Now she can roam where she wants and not be question for it because she's Madame Vivienne. Now, she can walk into the Orlasian court and belong there.
And what happens? Celene notices her and makes her the Court Enchanter, a position that has always been the equivalent of a jester. Vivienne took that title, ignored that it was essentially a glorified insult to who she is, and made it a position of power. She made the Court Enchanter into an advisor, a political rank. She had done the impossible and made mages an actual political entity in the Orlasian Court, something that wasn't seen outside of Tervinter (not counting what players can do under very specific conditions if they made mages in DAO and DA2).
All that, however, only continues as long as the court recognizes her as something worth their attention. Vivienne needs to maintain her act as Madame De Fer, The Lady of Iron, the Court Enchanter, The Jewel of the High Court, because the second she just becomes Vivienne, it's over for her. The assassins coming raining in, her name gets devoured by rumors and gossip, and she'll be found dead at bottom of the stair case with a dagger in her back if she's lucky.
So of course when the Circles fall apart during the Rebellion, she clings to that Loyalist Mages to maintain that structure--of course she moves her pieces to the Inquisition, knowing that if the Circle DOES fall, she at least as another place for herself and mages latch onto--of course when she hears that Celene replaced her with a new Court Enchanter that appeared out of no where, she grows to resent Morrigan.
Like, Morrigan literally pops up out of thin air, makes herself invaluable to Celene, and then plants herself in the place Vivienne had to claw her way up to and create so she could survive. Would you not be resentful when your life's work is usurped by some random witch of the wilds because she happened to charm the Empress? Everything Vivienne strived for all whisked away because the court find a gem who glimmers ever so slightly more than Vivienne.
So yes, Vivienne fears becoming irrelevant because the world has made it so that irrelevance for an Orlesian mage means death.

HAPPY 16TH BIRTHDAY!!! To this elderly bapy boye!!! he...!!!
#cats#ghhbbb this is the first time I've genuinely considered tumblr blazing a post lol but no.. i shant.. Actually. have the store. it's yours now. And This would continue all the way up the chain until he was handed#the entire walmart company. And every other company. a boy who owns everything. probably wouldnt use it for evil. he'd just abolish#everything and then focus on eating chickens.. ........ chibken son...

Also I am. Constantly forgetting how fucking funny Hunter is. We never give him enough credit for how funny he is because his life is so fucked up but I swear 90% of his lines are just bit after bit after bit. He's not even trying either. Anytime he actively tries to make a joke it falls flat but if you just put him in a Scenario he'll find a way to be so over invested and yet out of touch/at odds with whatever's going on. He's so autistic

if we should protect children because they are vunerable, this means you would protect cruel children who bullies people who different than them then. the children who responsible to trauma for someone else's entire years
You're assuming that "protecting" children is the same as absolving them of responsibility and that's not what I said. All children are vulnerable, because all children are children; they don't come out of the womb with a perfectly working moral compass anymore than they come out of it waiting to hurt people--they're vulnerable because their understanding of the world is entirely at the mercy of what we, as adults, consistently tell them and show them. Children behaving cruelly aren't exempt from that--they learn that cruelty from somewhere, or someone. Your job, as the adult, is to make sure they understand that it's unacceptable so it will not happen again--but your job is also to ask why someone that young is behaving this way to begin with, so you can ensure they become better.
"Protecting" kids is not ignoring when they hurt or torment others, it's not refusing to teach them consequences or right from wrong, it's not "zero tolerance" policies in schools that treat a child being bullied and the child bullying them as equal instigators, and it's certainly not protecting them from recognizing, and atoning for, the pain they have caused someone else. You don't have to make peace with the now-adults who hurt you when you both were kids, but you cannot let the horrors of your own childhood impact how you treat or respond to the children living theirs around you right now, either.
You don't protect kids so they can get a free pass for bullying or tormenting another child. You protect them because kids are impulsive, emotionally reactive, and profoundly social (which means deeply impressionable) human beings who are still learning & processing insane amounts of information every day about what it means to be alive, to be alive as yourself, to be alive as yourself with other people. Protecting them is realising that you can't isolate the responsibility of a 10 year old from the bigger responsibility of the literal grown adults around them, adults who are in charge of teaching them about the world and how to behave in it. Whether you have children of your own in the future or not is completely irrelevant to this; we all become those adults eventually--no matter what happened to us as kids.

Normally I'd agree many Final Fantasy games have rather young protagonists. It's because they're usually single-player JRPGs made with the assumption of younger players, and like most Young Adult media, create characters that cater to that, even if it ends up with teens running the world and fighting in wars. And for many players, the first time playing these games is in childhood/adolescence/very young adulthood. So it's YA anime.
Final Fantasy XIV does not fall into that same mold, despite the "Teen" rating for legal and distribution purposes.
The majority of the FF14 cast, including the bulk of the main characters, are between 20 and 40 years old (the Scion Archons, Ishgard Elf Husbands). Many other characters are between 40 and 80 (Ishgard's Counts are all late middle aged to elder dads/grandpas, Gaius is mid 50s, Jehantel and Ran'jit are elderly, all still active). The younger characters (especially with any authority or special position) like the Leveilleur twins, are actually outliers. And the youth of the characters between 16 and 20 years old tends to be plot relevant, where that inexperience and naivety causes problems and drives story (Nanamo's arc at the end of ARR into HW, Alphinaud and the Crystal Braves, Ryne's determination of self in ShB, etc).
Characters have a variety of appearances; some characters in the same age ranges look very different. Varis is only 4 years older than X'rhun but Varis's model shows the stress and disagreeableness of his life a lot more than the RDM trainer's. Cid's in his mid-30s but with the beard looks older--and without it he has a baby face (hair color doesn't matter, cuz they do keep the anime trope of "everyone's got white or silver hair"). Lalafell are designed to be anime-cute halflings so it's hard to tell their adult ages even if they've got facial hair like grandfatherly Papashan. The pad'jal of course look like kids, but the youngest main pad'jal is A-Ruhn in his late teens; all the others are adults stuck in adolescent bodies. E-Sumi is a few hundred years old. Kan-E uses various methods to look older so other leaders and people from outside Gridania will take her seriously as an adult. The padjal introduced in the StB WHM quests is a child, and that's the plot; she's not in charge of anything, or has any particularly advanced-for-her-age skills. She's just a kid having a really rough time.
This inability to determine age by looking and assuming isn't just due to limits of the game engine and character creation options; it reflects real life. I met my work team for the first time in person recently; one person looked older than I know them to be, thanks to months of stress and health issues. While all of them were shocked to remember I'm in my 40s as according to them, I "look much younger". Most people are actually pretty bad at guesstimating ages based on appearance, due to the variety of folks' lives.
Speaking of kid characters, many of the children we interact with, like the Doman Adventurers, are between 12 and 14 and act much younger. Khloe has this going on too, with her age "corrected" to 13 (when previously listed as 10), but she acts way younger to me. Most of the actual child characters are treated like children, and it's not until they get to 14-16 (Honoroit, Leveva) that we start to see them treated like maturing adolescents and having some rsponsibilities, but still young and prone to the kind of choices one expects of less experienced and more emotional youth.
As a MMO, FF14's primary audience is actually adults; teens do play the game, but also age up with it if they keep playing. If a 15 year old began playing with ARR's release, they're in their mid-20s now. Having a primarily adult cast, and treating child characters like children, and adolescents like young people figuring out how young adulthood works, makes sense for this game.
FF14's time bubble is also part of the issue; a developer tool to keep it so they don't have to worry too much about character ages, new models so often, or how long things take in game. Timelines are then intentionally left malleable for the players' benefits, to create our own stories and determine how long things take for our WoLs and their tales. Some folks have their stories pass in real time, some compress it to a year per expac, some expand it out even longer. So the ages the characters have listed in the lorebooks and rarely in game (which is then reflected in online resources), is a starting baseline. Personal headcanons as always should be applied (including changing around some character ages to fit one's own story if necessary).
Also, FF16, made by the same team, has a brief prologue/tutorial section where the main trio is between 10 and 15, guided/trained by adult characters, experience the inciting incident trauma--and then we spend the majority of the game with the main cast in their 20s and 30s. The game also has a mature rating, featuring some sexual situations, lots of violence, and stronger language than other FF games. It's made for adults, and its cast reflects that.
So it is a matter of audience expectations; for a MMO, you're going to have an older and aging player base, and the varied ages of the cast reflect that, as do their varied appearances and experiences as adults. The young characters are treated closer to how their youth should be; still with respect for those in positions like Nanamo, but also prone to errors due to inexperience that drive story. In other FF titles, which were made to be more YA-focused, a teen and young 20s cast were treated much differently. But even in the single-player FF titles, if they are made with adult players in mind, their cast and stories likewise reflect that.

What was Feathersight and Sandsnap's friendship like?
in-game it wasn't much, but they were apprentices at the same time so I imagine they were pretty close at that age, even if they weren't quite so much as adults. there was a whole group back then, Feathersight, Ospreyswipe, Juniperfoot, Russetflare, Ramstep, Cinderstone, & Sandsnap :)
