Yea!!! Can you tell I have favorites lol

so since it's the 20th in my time, it is officially my birthday today!

But I wanted to get this out regardless so kinda count it as the previous day's ig

I will be posting something later today probably but it will most likely just be a compilation of all the cakes I've done thus far.

Ok but um on with the cake!

It's like a cheesecake and I basically copied Tengen's cake with like a jelly filling with fruit suspended in it, peaches (obviously), strawberries and blueberries cause I like them and sod it I'll put them on this goddamn cake!

The thing Wukong's sitting on is one of those peach ice creams that's gotten so popular lately with the sprinkle of pink dust thingy on top.

On either side of the cake is the fillet from the journey and the hat from the brotherhood era, one from his reckless past and one from his redemption and I just think that's neat.

The blue puffy stuff is meant to be his nimbus clouds represented as cotton candy.

I have the baiju jar in there as reference to Wukong becoming immortal again due to the all the wine made from the peaches of immortality at the festival.

The staff as a little candle was so fun! And I like pocky so I chucked them on there to fill space and it looks good so sue me

The grey thing behind the staff and balloon is meant to be the Buddha's hand that trapped him under the mountain and a reference to his imprisonment under 5 phases mountain.

Peach popsicle! Of course I had too! A lil something from the present for our (shadow) peachy friend

Mk's stone as well, had to add his son in there too. The baby ever.

The two sugar cookies are meant to be his logo (aka the lmk logo) and fireworks, again taken from Tengen's cake.

The sun is a candied/tanghulu esque orange thing. Like an orange slice coated in yellow melted sugar shaped like a sun and the phoenix feather cap since I consider it iconic enough to put in here. I didn't want to put it on him, blocking a lot of the decorations so I just hung it to the side and I think I'm happy with that.

A lot more monkeys here! It was very fun popping them in! I know I only gave Mac 1 but I mean Wukong's the monkey king for a reason. Let him be a loving grandpa and invite his subjects on the cake with him. He granted them immortality by ripping their names out the book of dead, let them have a place on the cake too

Also, yes that is the origami pilgims in the bottom left, I couldn't leave them alone could I?

Now the elephant in the room (or at least in my head), yes I did use @maplesleep's matcha pancake design for flower fruit mountain.

Cake on cake. Bit much but hey, I like cake and pastries better than candy normally so win for me.

And I couldn't just make cake about Sun Wukong without mentioning his home/origins of ffm. I do genuinely love the inginuity and adorableness factor of the pancake design and hope they don't mind me slapping it on my...cheesecake? Jelly cake? Jelly-cheesecake?

(also I have to ask @maplesleep, did you watch the 3rd emirichu anime cafe video, specifically the urusei yatsura cafe as inspiration for the 'sun wukong's strawberry sponge cake punishment' parfait thingy, gorgeously drawn btw I used those drawings as inspiration quite a bit for these cakes, or saw the urusei yatsura collab anime cafe

cause I couldn't help but notice the similarities between that and the 'shinobu's maiden strength parfait' cause if you didn't that be a pretty funny coincidence lol)

So what do you think? You think I could make it as another lmk food chef for lego? Can I join the club lmao?

I do realize in retrospect the disrespect I did Mk by making his cake so plain by comparison to his mentor's. But I think that's a testament to my improvement and attention to detail when making these cakes as the days have progressed!

I consider Mk's in particular to be the most lacking and I lowkey feel so bad for my boi for not giving him the main character status he deserves.

I might draw him again, idk. Not anytime soon though, like I said, I'm quite busy now more than before and I need a break, still glad I could serve y'all another slice of cake though!

4: when browsing a bookstore I will inevitably let myself be drawn in by the impulses of autism and check the sf/fantasy section for any discworld books I don't yet have in editions/covers I actually want to own (I'm very picky about this) then usually I'll go to nonfiction, see if anything in the history or cooking sections catches my eye, and, with a reading list in mind, browse general fiction for anything that's either been recommended to me or written by an author I previously enjoyed.

10. I think the book best categorised as a 'guilty fav' for me is Jingo, #21 in the Discworld series, because dear God is it an orientalist mess for much of it but it's also very near to my heart bc a) it remains v fun in terms of plot and b) on my first read I latched onto it as a way of contextualising war in the middle east+western views on Arabs for myself (a mixed middle eastern teenager). So yeah it's Problematique & I do sort of feel bad for how much I've gotten out of it what with the whirring in the back of my mind caused by Edward Said rotating at incredibly high speeds in his grave but I do continue to enjoy it. Also, recently the unfortunate revelation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's TERFdom came to light so, though I won't be purchasing any new books from her, my appreciation of her work would place Americanah, Half of a Yellow Sun, and Purple Hibiscus in that category too, as I do think they're incredible books but their author's bigotry is absolutely inexcusable. I'd be happy to discuss my feelings on both Adichie and Jingo further as I feel like I can't do the complexity of my reaction justice in such a short space and while I'm ill.

19. Anything by Cassandra Clare is definitely up there for most disliked popular books. The further I get away from my Mortal Instruments phase the more horrified I am by those fucking books. Also, not popular, but my most disliked book ever is The Dangerous Kingdom of Love by Neil Blackmore. It's a fucking trainwreck. There is good historical fiction out there and this is not fucking it. It manages to be wildly offensive to the Scots while pretending that this is due to some Enlightened antimonarchist views from its protagonist, it sets up a completely fictitious love affair between Francis Bacon and George Villiers, the Duke of Buckingham, then has Buckingham accuse Bacon of preying on him before subjecting him to homophobic violence, it grossly and egregiously mischaracterises the nature of queerness and homophobia in the 17th century, and it has the gall to pretend this is all some progressive reaction to a pederastic past rather than a deeply mean-spirited and ahistorical creative decision intended to cause a cheap shock in its audience. I goddamn hate that book.

"The beach?" Echo was incredulous, staring at Alex with her mouth slightly agape.

Alex nodded excitedly and pointed at the map on the wall, his finger resting over the location of a nearby beachfront. They were due some "shore leave" as Kano so often called it, and they had all been debating on how they wanted to spend it.

"I don't do beaches," Erron shook his head and folded his arms over his chest defiantly.

"You mean you don't have a waterproof cowboy hat?" Echo chided.

"And I'm sure you wouldn't be caught dead in a bikini, sugar."

"I think it's a good idea!" Kate piped up from her spot in the corner, "We could all be normal for a day!"

"There is nothin' normal about any of you," Erron growled.

"Pot, meet kettle," Kabal sneered, and the cowboy rolled his eyes.

Despite his size, Alex was capable of some of the most convincing puppy-dog eyes you ever did see, and they were on in full force as he pleaded with the rest of the team.

A few scattered mutters of "fine" and defeated sighs filled the room as Alex got his way and giddily pumped his fists in the air.

"This ain't right," Erron muttered from inside the changing room off of the parking area. The curtain was drawn as he changed out of his cowboy getup and into the swim trunks that Alex had insisted he buy.

"It can't be that bad, come on," Echo leaned against the outside wall, her own body covered by a large towel slung over her swimsuit-clad frame.

Erron shoved the curtain aside and Echo bit her lip to choke back a laugh- the cowboy looked awkward, as if he didn't know how to stand without his usual get-up and guns. His face and forearms were tan from plenty of exposure to the beating of the Outworld sun, but that was where the color ended- the rest of his body was white as a sheet.

"You better not be about to laugh," he narrowed his eyes and Echo shook her head innocently.

"Wouldn't dream of it."

"Jesus, Erron, when's the last time you saw the sun?" Kabal called from his lawn chair at the edge of the water, "Shades on, everybody, Casper is here."

"I'm gonna kill him-"

"Calm down, old man," Echo murmured, "You look fine." She tossed her towel to the sand and Erron's eyes lingered on her figure until she turned and he averted his gaze quickly.

"This was a great idea!" Kate flopped down on her towel and sighed, "Beats paperwork any day!"

"Headed for the water?" Kabal glanced over the top of his sunglass at Erron.

"Oh no, hell no. I got the trunks on, but I ain't touchin' the water."

"You can't swim, can you?" Kabal grinned up at the cowboy from his seat, "180 years old and you never learned to dog-paddle?"

"Now you shut your goddamn-"

"You can't, can you?" Kate interjected, and Erron felt as if he was going to short-circuit.

"Why am I the focus here when you," he jerked his head at Kabal, "look like a steak someone left on the griddle? And you-" he gestured at Agnes, "are still wearin' your chef coat?"

Agnes peered over the top of the novel she had been engrossed in and raised her eyebrows, "I don't believe I've said a fucking word to you, Mr. Black."

"Sorry, Nessie-" Erron moved to tip his hat before remembering he no longer had one on with an exasperated sigh.

"Just get in the water, cowboy!" Alex called; he was flat on his back, floating gently atop the water a few meters from shore.

Erron huffed and shifted his weight uncomfortably. It wasn't that he couldn't swim- he just wasn't very good at it. The last time he'd had a proper swim was back in 1902, and he was a bit more spry then.

"I'll get in if you get in," Echo nudged Erron gently in the ribs and he pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration.

"Fine, damn it."

The others watched as Echo ran, gracefully, and dove headfirst into the surf while Alex cheered and pumped his fist.

"I hate this," Erron muttered as he approached the water, "Join a mercenary clan, Erron! You'll see the world! Do fun shit. This ain't fun-"

The cowboy extended a foot, hesitantly, and touched his toes to the water, "That's fuckin' freezin'!" He withdrew his foot and stood, awkwardly, like a flamingo on one leg.

Alex burst into a fit of laughter and Echo tried to suppress a smile of her own. From the shore, Kabal heckled and jeered while Kate shook her head.

"Just jump in!"

"Shut up, Demir- I'm thinkin'."

"Think faster, Kate is about to pull out her phone and record you," Echo jerked her head toward the shore and Erron squeezed his eyes shut in frustration.

"Do it quick!" Alex shouted, "Like a bandaid!"

And so Erron took a deep breath and ran, headlong, into the cold waves, hitting the water with a gasp.

"Jesus that's cold as hell!" His voice was an octave or two higher than he intended as he spoke.

Kabal and the others cheered from the shore and Agnes even gave a thumbs up from under her umbrella.

Echo floated over to Erron as he shivered and treaded water, trying desperately to keep his composure.

"Not too bad, cowboy."

The Untamed, episode 43 - watching notes

The sun is setting on this show for me and I'm not ready to say goodbye yet 😔

Last time on Sophie watches the untamed: We're still in the restricted section. The twin love-struck idiots of lan and wwx found the Collection of turmoil and suspect Jin Guangyao of intentionally bringing about Nie Mingjue's qui deviation.

As much as I love the "hihi. Wwx is wearing his boyfriend's underrobe" aspect of this, I also like the visual incorporation of lwj's colour scheme into wwx's clothes. (Not just through the undertone, his black tone also has slight grey seam.) It's as if now that they are finally fully committed to each other, wwx is displaying it for all the world to see

Jin Guangyao tore out a page to hide the evidence. That's not how to do that!!!

My heart is breaking for Lan Xichen. He looks like a man standing on a train track and watching the light speed towards him in horror while he's unable to move away

Feels like exactly no one on this show is getting their happy ending

Aaand another freeze frame. But I'm willing to forgive it because THIS EPISODE WAS SO GODDAMN BRILLIANT!

It made me realise why I was so drawn to lan Wangji as a character. Of course he is mu favourite character! He ticks every single box

Let me explain. My favourite characters almost always share the following characteristics: seems either cold and distant or ethereal and aloof, as if they are above such puny human things like feelings™️(bonus if they're actually not human and their argument is "I'm [insert species]. We can't feel [insert emotion they are definetly feeling very strongly]"). then, over the course of the story, we (along with they themselves because they were in denial) discover that it's not that they feel too little, they feel entirely too much. They're a sea of emotions so deep that the surface is calm, but don't you dare be near them when the storm is coming because all hell will break loose. (extra bonus point if that storm involves them rebelling against the oppressive society they were born into and adhered to until then because they realise their consciousness won't allow it any longer.) afterwards they realise that making themselves vulnerable once in a while is actually a good thing and they proceed to fuck the Rebel™️ who they've secretly been in love with the entire time, a feeling they only now allow themselves to act on

The last part sadly isn't always canon, but who has ever had time for that?

You know what this episode made me realise most of all? The Lan sect are just as human as the rest of them. In fact, they seem to be especially prone to acting rashly on strong emotions. (I don't remember the exact story, but didn't the founder of the Lan sect also have some kind of tragic love story?) It should be obvious, but the impression you get is that they are so detached from their wants, so rigorous and disciplined in their righteousness, that they are almost super-human. But no. Thise 3000 and some rules? They weren't born out of some enlightened mind that had the secret of live figures out, they're a crutch. Abiding by them without question rids one of responsibility to make even the tiniest moral choice for oneself. But that won't work because a) they're bounty to contradict each other at some point and b) that's not how human beings work. They're messy and unpredictable and beautifully complicated. The way Lan Qiren choses to apply them, he completely disregards that. At that point, the rules aren't there anymore to grant a harmonious society, but simply for their own sake. (Or maybe as a wall to hide behind)

Okay, little background story, I keep a list in my notes app of headcanons for Tokoyami and literally one of them on there says word for word “Dogs absolutely love him and he loves them right back” so im SO GLAD you made him a dog person, making him a cat person seems like the easy route

Ngl, when my head isn't working, I will just put on one song and play it over and over and over and over and over until something comes into my head. My ShinOji fic 'Gold Rush' came from that. Still not sure how I managed to make a somewhat decent fic out of a song about gentrification but my mind is a wild and wonderful place.

Yeah, Shouji goes through it with his family. One thing that I can say though is that as Shouji starts to get more and more successful with his art, Tokoyami starts to spitefully send articles and reviews written on his work to his parent's house. He never gets a response but doesn't expect to, he just feels like they should see how amazing their son is, goddamnit. The one day, a letter comes back. Tokoyami opens it, expecting it to be them telling him to knock it off and instead, one of the pictures has been sent back with 'This is beautiful' written in pen, an arrow pointing to one of his vases. Tokoyami then has to show it to Shouji and explain what he did. Shouji cries basically all night. That starts a very, very tenuous back and forth with his mom.

You should have seen my first outline if you thought this was quick with them figuring it out. Basically, the only reason that Tokoyami broke it off in the first place was because he didn't see that there was a chance of it working. They worked so well otherwise. Amazing chemistry, complimentary senses of humor, Tokoyami didn't want to break it off at all. He just felt like he had to because otherwise they were both going to get more hurt. So when Shouji was like 'okay, but actually I do want to try this', he was all in.

Ojiro is legit Shouji's first real friend. Which is really really sad given that they met when they were eighteen but Shouji never really got a chance to do anything normal.

Maine Coons rule and Chewie is an excellent name for them. I was going to name their cat after Marie Phillipe Poulin, the greatest women's hockey player ever, but I decided that Gritty would be funnier. Mic as a bad cook is deeply satisfying, I picture him being like me, just all 'okay but I just do enough to make something to survive on and uh.... who needs all the details and stuff'.

The name change actually came from my beta. They asked why his contact was still Western Civ Tutor in the beginning of the chapter and I was like 'oooo, great way to show how they have changed'.

And maaaaaaaaaan. I'm sorry but how is someone who is a bird gonna like a cat. Nah. Tokoyami is a dog person. They do go on to get a dog. They were going to get a Shiba Inu or something catlike until Kenta came through with a hound puppy that he'd found in the rain while on his route and just dumps it in Shouji's lap like 'Surprise!'. They name it Lu after Roberto Luongo, famed goalie. The dog is a goddamned menace and Shouji ends up having to take it to classes and learn about dog training so they can all keep their sanity. He ends up loving Lu the most. (I do some part time dog training so I had to throw that in)

Tokoyami dyes his hair. He's actually a mousy blond under the dye like his mama. And yeah, my parents are hella supportive too. I figured it would be healthy for one of them to have accepting parents.

Aizawa was pretty pissed, ngl. For all that he should know better, he got caught up in the same shit that coaches tend to slip into, which is a responsibility because they have someone with potential that they must mold and then when they go on to do amazing things, they can feel a part of it. But then he realizes where he fucked up and how he was so busy seeing Shouji the hockey player that he couldn't see Shouji the person.

Listen, it's my fanfic, so I'm gonna get as cheesy as I damn well please. I'd written a super cheesy ending for the end of 'Black Sun' and was waffling on keeping it until somebody was like 'it's a fic, be as cheesy as you want'. I can has my cheese, as a treat.

WHAT IN THE FUCK WORM. HOW CONFUSED HAVE YOU BEEN THIS ENTIRE TIME?!?!?! this legit made me laugh out loud when I read it. GO BACK AND READ MIC'S SHOW!!! I set up so much stuff to try and prepare the reader to understand the emotional stakes, not to mention the basic facts of hockey! That being said, I get the feeling.
