Thank goodness SeaWorld was excluded from this list of best aquariums in the world, which included… MOSKVARIUM!???
(Worth noting, while healthy mammals are no longer captured for display, it’s still common practice for all aquariums to obtain fish and herptiles from the wild.)

Naja recently had a little girl, being the last orca in Russia to be under human care, Naja and her daughter are now the last two killer whales in any zoological facility in Russia.
There are supposed plans to have these two be moved to a sea sanctuary when the calf is older and there's actual funds to build a sea sanctuary, but for now, the two will remain at Moskvarium

August 4, 2015
The President visited the new Moskvarium Oceanography and Marine Biology Centre, the biggest of its kind in Europe, completed in July 2015 at the VDNKh exhibition centre. It is the only facility of this level situated far from the coast of an ocean or sea. The centre has 80 panoramic aquariums with more than 7,000 sea and freshwater fauna species, as well as touch tanks. After touring the exhibits, Vladimir Putin watched a water show featuring killer whales.

Meduza: The Rotenberg Files
Dear readers: What do Austria, Latvia, Spain, the British Virgin Islands, France, and Monaco have in common? You got it: They all contain assets linked to Vladimir Putin’s childhood judo buddies, Arkady and Boris Rotenberg, who, despite being targeted by numerous Western sanctions over the last decade, are still worth billions today.
The Rotenberg Files, a new series of investigations from OCCRP published on Tuesday that relies on a vast trove of emails leaked from a management firm used by the brothers, gives an unprecedented look into how they’ve managed to shield their wealth, and who helped them do it.
The articles describe a stream of financial maneuvers resembling a game of whack-a-mole, with “new bank accounts opening just as others were closed” all over the world as the brothers encountered new sanctions or new scrutiny from governments. The lead story digs into the role of money manager Maxim Viktorov, a 50-year-old violin aficionado who received a memo from one of the Rotenberg brothers’ sons shortly after Russia’s annexation of Crimea with the subtle label “OBJECTIVE: CLEAR SANCTIONS.” Emails like this one paint an unusually vivid picture of panicked family members and allies trying to outsmart regulators, in contrast to the financial records that usually comprise the substance of these corruption stories (though there are plenty of those as well). A message from a Panama-registered company that worked to help the Rotenbergs protect part of their fortune, for example, reads: “We are already spinning like a snake on a pitchfork.”
One key insight from the investigation is the role of “closed mutual funds,” investment vehicles that are not required to disclose their shareholders under Russian law, in hiding assets linked to the Rotenbergs. The brothers used this tool to hide their connections to properties like Europe’s largest aquarium, the Moskvarium, and a Spanish villa on the Mediterranean.
The series also reveals the identities of some of the individuals the Rotenbergs have used as proxies to hide their assets, such as a 36-year-old Latvian cosmetologist who sources described to journalists as Arkady Rotenberg’s “unofficial wife.”
Another article outlines the role of Queen Elizabeth II’s cousin, Prince Michael of Kent, in helping Boris Rotenberg elude sanctions. Prince Michael, who bears a resemblance to Tsar Nicholas II that has earned him a “cult following among nostalgic monarchists,” has run in Russian oligarch circles for nearly two decades (and has received numerous gifts from Russian businessmen, including a factory). According to OCCRP, Prince Michael used his royal status and connections with world leaders to try to jump-start the success of RemitRadar, a tech company he co-owned with Maxim Viktorov and another Russian businessman. While the prince publicly cut ties with the Russian government after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 4 percent of RemitRadar still belongs to an investment fund managed by Viktorov’s asset management firm, which has previously managed at least 13 “closed mutual funds” linked to the Rotenbergs. (Because the investment fund is a “closed mutual fund,” its ultimate beneficiary is still unknown.)
Other stories in the series:

I had a dream last night Tokitae (aka Lolita) was moving to the Georgia Aquarium (which for some reason in my dream had a huge orca habitat and was already home to the Moskvarium whales??) and I was crying in relief.

A heartbreaking video has emerged from Moscow's #Moskvarium, an aquarium housing wild-captured cetaceans including dolphins, beluga whales, and orcas. Read on via IG: @inherentlywild below! "Disturbing footage of Ponca, Moskvarium’s lone beluga whale, exposes the terrible state of her lower back. Ponca appears to be suffering from severe scoliosis, a sideways curvature of the spine. While the cause is unknown, it’s likely Ponca suffered a back injury that only worsened in the tight confines of her tank. She now suffers from an almost 90-degree curvature, making her tail flukes almost entirely useless. As a result, Ponca struggles to swim and depends heavily on her pectoral fins to manoeuvre around her tank. Retired from shows as a result of her condition, Ponca now spends her days in her tiny tank, struggling to swim and waiting to die." Video: prosto_viski https://www.instagram.com/p/B_72c6ogzfb/?igshid=1h7jbts95lfvz

Nord (I think?) looks like he’s got some discoloration going on.
I think Narnia in the back also has something going on around her flank patch (is that what that’s called?), but it’s hard to tell.

Narnia, has died at Moskvarium (est. 17 years old).  The cause of death was intestinal volvulus.  The press release does not issue the date of death, but its presumed to have occurred in January 2023.  More details will be posted if they are released. Narnia was captured on  August 11, 2012 in Reyneke Bay, Sea of Okhotsk, Russia.
(translated, Russian) "Narnia passed away at the age of 17, she was the oldest representative of the Moskvarium killer whale family. Until the last day, there were no signs of illness or illness in the behavior and medical records of Narnia. The cause of death was established after a study, the results of which were received a few days later - Narnia died of acute intestinal volvulus. Unfortunately, toothed whales, including killer whales, are very often affected by this pathology. This pathology is described both in wild killer whales and dolphins, and in animals living in artificial conditions. The departure of Narnia is an irreparable loss for the entire Moskvarium team."

⠀ Август 2016, @moskvarium_official •• . . . #olympus_ru #olympuscamera #moskvarium #москвариум (at Москвариум) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEClJ_6oPc1/?igshid=bjq3us7z5zev
