3, 23, 29, annnnd 34 for Medwed and her fellowship! :3
3. Weapon of choice? Any particular reason they chose their weapon?
Hiraeth: A classic ranger, she relies on her bow to shoot her targets from afar, keeping herself out of harm’s way as much as possible. She also loves her trusty daggers if she’s pushed into melee combat. She may also wield a shortsword on occasion.
Frithild: This shieldmaiden has opted for the spear instead of sword, earning her the name “Blódgar.” She’s small, and she likes how it gives her better reach. She may also use her shield as a blunt-force weapon, and has enough strength to break bones.
Medwed: A great big battleaxe that weighs as much as your average man and can cleave an Orc skull with the lightest touch. She’ll also opt for a pair of handaxes if she’s in closer quarters!
Morwen: Trained in martial combat, she’s a sword girlie through and through. She’s capable of using any type of sword, but her go-to is a two-handed longsword that also happens to be a family heirloom.
23. How would you describe their voice? Can they sing?
Hiraeth: Surprisingly light and chipper, reminding one of a sparrow. She speaks very fast, so you have to listen closely to catch all of her words and their hidden meanings. She has a lovely singing voice (soprano), and she likes to sing old tales, songs, and poems to the group. Often it is in Sindarin, so none of them can understand her, but it delights them nonetheless.
Frithild: A loud, boistrous woman with a voice that carries across a room. It can be a little grating to listen to her sometimes, as she’ll raise her volume to an ear-piercing level if she gets too excited. She has a soldier’s aptitude for music, meaning she is rather raucious and tone-deaf but full of heart. She often belts out raunchy tavern ballads with her whole chest.
Medwed: Medwed has a very deep, growly sort of voice. It can be either threatening or comforting, depending on your perspective. She adopts a maternal tone with most people—warm and gentle. I don’t think she’s necessarily good at singing, but she likes to recite little ditties, lullabies, and riddles to herself when she thinks she’s alone.
Morwen: Her voice is quiet, cold, and stern as steel. It stays at a single tone most of the time, leading many to believe that she feels no emotion. This is not the case, but she exercises a severe self-control over herself that hardly ever breaks. She speaks of war and death in the same way she speaks of the best thing that has ever happened in her life. Nobody has ever heard her sing, or even hum.
29. Are they associated with any particular element (air, earth, fire, water)?
Hiraeth: Air. Curious, independent, and versatile; she’s always looking for the next new thing to occupy herself. She can come across as airheaded or flighty, and she can be quite unpredictable.
Frithild: Fire. A burning flame driven by passion, she pours herself into everything she does. Her energy is infectious and all-consuming. She loves very deeply and intensely.
Medwed: Earth. She’s very close to nature and all the things that grow and live on it. She’s also a grounded person that is stable, reliable, and unmovable as a rock. It’s very difficult to break her.
Morwen: Water. She seems to be calm, level-headed, and easy-going on the surface like a still lake. She’s restrained, but a force to be reckoned with when the dam is destroyed.
34. How would your character describe themselves?
Hiraeth: She sees herself as a valuable asset to the Rangers, and she’s proud of doing such a dangerous and important duty. But she hates how afraid she is, and even more afraid of giving in to despair. She’s not so serious as the older Dúnedain, so she feels out of place next to them. A bit of an outcast among outcasts, but she makes the most of feeling alone. Her animals love her, even when (she thinks) people don’t.
Frithild: Like her uncle Thrymm, she enjoys talking about herself more than anything. She could ascribe a number of good traits to herself, but brave and beautiful are her favourites. Sometimes she will boast of doing things that she never did or exaggerating to impress. Is she self-conscious, or simply confident in herself? It’s likely that she feels she has to compensate for her gender, height, and hot temper.
Medwed: She has a very optimistic outlook on life and herself. She’s comfortable with who she is, but not to the point of boastfulness, and so she exists in self-assured confidence. She wears the term “hero” like a badge of honour, and she tries to embody everything that a hero should be. She’s baffled and hurt when people do not view her the same way, or if they don’t want to be her friend. Surely, she isn’t doing anything wrong? She’s a good person, isn’t she?
Morwen: If held at swordpoint, she would begrudgingly describe herself as loyal, dogged, and determined. She’s aware of how her standoffishness pushes people away, but she doesn’t care enough to try and be more friendly. There’s a scrap of bitterness in her, and she wishes that she were more powerful to save those she loves from the Shadow. The knowledge that she is only one young woman and not an entire army crushes her.

33 for the Fellowship of Ladies? (I'd love to know how they'd describe each other!)
33. If applicable, how would your other characters describe them?
Frithild
Hiraeth: She thinks the shieldmaiden is a tad too reckless. She admires Frithild’s dedication and selflessness—attributes of a true hero. Her passion drives her to make sacrifices for the sake of others, something Hiraeth also does. But she takes it a step further and actively places herself in harm’s way, and Hiraeth hates that. She would describe Frithild as a spark that burns no matter what; burning those who get in her way and providing warmth for her friends.
Medwed: They get along almost too well, to the dismay of their allies and enemies alike. Medwed struck up a friendship with Frithild immediately, owing to them both being extroverts. Medwed loves Frithild’s energy, and views her recklessness as bravery. She likens her to that of a boar—dangerous when cornered, itching for a fight, and notorious for avoiding baths.
Morwen: Loud and full of air. Morwen disregards men and women who brag, and her judgement of the shieldmaiden is rather harsh: arrogant, boistrous, irresponsible, and “uncouth.” She swears too much, her jokes are lewd, and her laughter is annoying when they’re almost about to die. But she owes a grudging respect to Frithild, who backs her words up with actions that match her boasts.
Hiraeth
Frithild: Untrustworthy, flighty, and thin as a twig. But she quickly finds out that the Ranger is not brittle, and possesses a strength not in arms but in wits and speed. She’s too secretive for Frithild’s liking, and therefore “dodgy” at best. She’s not reassuring during difficult times, but her honesty is more comforting than light, humourous words. The shieldmaiden likes straight answers, and Hiraeth doesn’t give them. A strange, solitary creature made of hard wood and grey glass and feathers.
Medwed: She determined to view the Ranger the same way she would a frightened, incorrigible bird, and that has worked for her so far. She has to hold Hiraeth very gently, but firm enough that she doesn’t fly away. She isn’t very bold, preferring to stick to the shadows and shoot arrows rather than face her fears head-on, and so she continues to let them overpower her. But she’s sharp and clever, and just needs the right tools to break free.
Morwen: She liked the Ranger from the start, because she was quieter than the other two. She’s loyal, intelligent, and knowledgeable; she has more courage in her than she thinks she does. More of a hawk than a sparrow, she doesn’t underestimate Hiraeth’s talents, even if Hiraeth herself does. She’s fierce and fast, and Morwen would give her life into her hands.
Medwed
Frithild: She was intimidated at first because of her country’s folklore concerning láthbears stealing away children in the night to eat them, and she thought Medwed was some kind of were-láthbear. A pretty one that smells like flowers. She thinks that Medwed deserves to be an honourary shieldmaiden, and has accepted her as own of her own. Frithild still gets heart palpitations when she sees her transform, especially those awful fangs! She wouldn’t want to be an Orc…
Hiraeth: A bright light bringing her hope when she thought all was lost. Medwed is a gentle presence, a maternal force keeping everyone together. Hiraeth knows the beasts of the wild, and she also knows that mother bears are some of the fiercest creatures. Hiraeth didn’t have a mother growing up, and she’s latched onto the Beorning for protection and love.
Morwen: Much too optimistic for her own good, and too kind to those who don’t deserve it. She may be large and strong, but she’s soft inside. Just a fuzzy golden teddy bear that some child would kill to squish and cuddle (Morwen will not admit she wants to). However, Medwed surprises Morwen by ripping their enemies to shreds without mercy. In those moments, she re-evaluates everything she thought was true about the affable Beorning.
Morwen
Frithild: It’s hard for Frithild to understand Morwen, as someone who wears her heart on her sleeve. She thinks Morwen is untrustworthy or uncaring because she doesn’t share her thoughts/emotions. Cold as a wraith in winter! The woman never has anything to say that isn’t all doom and gloom. Dark as her raven hair and her icy eyes. She feels as if Morwen treats her as inferior, and that enrages her.
Hiraeth: Slightly afraid of her, since she reminds her of many who gave up fighting the Enemy and his servants. Hiraeth sees the same lines of despair in her face as in her fallen brothers. She steps on thin ice around the Gondorian knight, and is worried that the slightest word will push her over the edge into the darkness. She also experiences a bit of imposter syndrome, and thinks Morwen would fit in better with the Rangers than her.
Medwed: She thinks that Morwen needs to warm up and loosen her grip a little. She’s stiff and rigid as a sword made of the most beautiful tempered steel, but she’ll rust if she doesn’t take care of herself. She’s closed-off, preventing them from loving her properly, and much too polished to be anything but fake. What is she hiding? Medwed has a habit of thinking about her more like a weapon than a person—one that would be terrible in the wrong hands.

men of middle-earth ☀ misc. dúnedain ☀ headcanon disclaimer
Húrin the Tall was the Warden of the Keys of Minas Tirith at the time of the War of the Ring. Alongside Forlong, Hirluin, and Imrahil, he rode to the aid of the Rohirrim in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, and when the Captains of the West marched on the Black Gate he remained in Gondor. When King Elessar returned victorious, it was Húrin who opened the barricade of the gatehouse to make way for the new King. The husband of Húrin was Suilor, the Warden of the Houses of Healing in Minas Tirith. He was fascinated by herbs and herb-lore and tended to ramble on on these topics of his interest, much to the irritation of certain of his patients! Despite his enthusiasm for lore, Suilor was ignorant of certain important topics; it was not him, but his aged colleague Golunil, known by all as Ioreth for her advanced age, who remembered the old adage that The hands of the King are the hands of a healer. Hearing this wisdom, Mithrandir brought Aragorn to the Houses of Healing to tend to the sick, and both Ioreth and Suilor were able to bear witness to his miraculous healing of Faramir and Éowyn using the so-called “weed,” athelas. Another of Aragorn’s patients was the soldier Ingold, who manned the north-gate of Forannest. When an army out of the east crossed the River Anduin, Ingold had been forced into retreat, bringing the grim news that the Rohirrim were blocked from riding to their aid. Yet Rohan’s warriors found their way to the battle nonetheless, and their timely coming saved Ingold’s life in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, though he was not spared all injury. With the King’s careful healing, Ingold was brought back from the brink of death and was able to reunite with his brother Targon, a storehouse worker who had played his small part in the War by giving food to Beregond and Peregrin Took some days earlier. Suilor and Húrin had one daughter, an adopted orphan they named Morwen after the wife of Húrin’s namesake. She aided her father in the Houses of Healing, where she briefly flirted with Lady Éowyn’s brother Éomer. Morwen was well-regarded by Lothíriel of Dol Amroth, and her high opinion of the Rohirric king influenced her friend’s decision to give Éomer a chance when he began to court her. Morwen attended Lothíriel and Éomer’s wedding, and shortly thereafter moved to Meduseld as her lady’s handmaid, where she found true love with Idis, a lady of Rohan’s court.
