Maybe this is stupid but I feel like the bond that Rick and Morty have shared up until now just doesn’t feel the same. I know we’re only two episodes in but they’ve hardly interacted and Morty has been kind of an ass to everyone? He’s been really apathetic too. I like confident and badass Morty but I also like Morty being Morty. I hope we get more of him and Rick just being like they were in future episodes. Character development exists but I guess I’m just worried

Also the aspect I really liked about their bond was that they were so codependent and it was a toxic and dubious relationship. While they don’t need to do S3 level angst, it would be nice not to turn into some evil Morty story because it feels a little like that. Like the tables are turning and dunno what to feel It doesn’t really feel like that to me? I mean the Morty turning into evil or against Rick. If you get the option to die young on some painful, awful way or die from old age at the side of the person you love the most, send farewall on a bed at peace and after apparently living a fulfilled life, does it really sound that easy? And Morty has already buried his old self before. He knows what a young dead Morty looks like and he has to live every day knowing that it could have been very easily been him down there, that it could still be him. That is some heavy ass shit for A TEEN to deal with, so honestly I can’t blame him one bit for try to take other route, as selfish as it was. There is the point that they have less chances to interact with each other, so we might see that change soon in future episode, but there it seems to me like they are reaching a point where they both can meet on a same level and that doesn’t mean that it would one or the other. For one, our Morty already knows how horribly selfish and monsterous his Rick is and he still chose to stay with him, he still choose to go on an adventures with him, having the option not to, not like a scared little kid that is on a constant amasement of how cool grandpa is, but like a kid who just like the adventures and pass time with his grandpa.  Like, the moment I enjoy more of their relationship is when despite how different of people they are, they find a middle point where they seem to be in perfect sinc, something that Rick rarely gets to do with anyone. How Morty pulls out some things that not even Rick want to be pulled out. I love them both because they balance each other out in a way no else can. No other Mortys, no other Ricks, just each other. Like how Morty had the chance to leave Rick so many times and didn’t take it, or how Rick choses save Morty above himself. I do agree that their bond doesn’t feel the same anymore. It had to change for Morty to not be afraid anymore and Rick not being a selfish dick all the time. You can’t grow and stay the same. But I personally think that is interesting because Rick cannot control Morty anymore and Morty himself has some power of his own. So how is going to work? Is Rick willing to relinquish some control? How he deals with that? Or is Morty willing to give that power up on his own? Why? Why do they keep chosing each other above all else? And I hope the answer is because they realize they need each other to be a better version of themselves.  I am sure we will still have angst moments, especially with how Rick ends on the second episode, and I do cross my fingers for them to have more moments together, to work as a team and be buddies and be happy together. The rest of the world can continue to be fucked up, and they can be a bit fucked up too, but fine one with another, that is my hope. Other interpretations are valid, though! It’s perfectly fine if you like to see their relationship under another light, even a toxic one, because that certainly can make for very interesting stories and dinamics. But I think we can both be calm on the thought those two knuckleheads belong together, one way or another, for whatever is worth.

001 BATIM 003 Summer - rnm (I don't often see you talk about her lol)

OOOOOOOOoooo Summer!

You are right I do not talk about her nearly enough, even though she’s somewhere in my top 5 favs (top 3 counting only characters from the show)! Also I’m kinda talking about comic book Summer and show Summer (s)

So, as I stated up top, love her but when I started watching the show I didn’t like her too much (she was okay but I thought she was going to be flat stereotypical teen girl)But that was beginning season 1 (which she was a side character) and then Season 2 came along and I said “Hell yeah, she cool” and I started really loving her as a character! Wasteland Summer was also cool to see and I was sad to see her frozen with not much more exploration on her character.

Hmmm as much as I ship and love to do so…I really don’t with Summer. The one universe in the comics where she’s a lesbian I totally support and I low key ship the crackship with the car. Other then that though I think she’s doing well on her own. I personally don’t ship her with Ethan since based on what’s seen not really compatible (of course when did I care compatibility-Eh I just don’t see enough substance for em). I’ve seen a few arts with her and Jessica which is cute but not really my taste either.

Now to non romantic relationship-

Well I feel like her and Rick get along well in the end, whether that’s good or bad I’m not sure, but I really enjoy her relationship with Beth? Like at first it sucked, it really really sucked. But I feel as though it got progressively better (especially the end episode where they’re shopping and doing daughter mom things). I hope to see the relationship in the next season and even her to grow a stronger bond with her dad as well (since that ones been shaky too. Honestly she doesn’t have stable relationships with anyone platonic and romantic which Is sad)

Unpopular opinion…

Hmm a lot of people show her as badass (which I love me some good ol fighten Sum Sum) But some people, when doing so, make her exactly like Rick. Now I’m not disagreeing she has some parallels to him (she definitely does especially showcased in season 3) but I think people need to remember she IS a different person. She CAN be a genius and strong and whatever but she will approach situations with her own twist! I also see (in fics mostly) them blow Summer off completely or make her stereotypical teen (doesn’t talk to anyone about anything ever, always grochy, and if does appear in said fic is just on her phone) which is an interpretation that I don’t care for.

Hmm, again explore more her relationship with her family (asside from Rick since I think that has been showcased in Season 2 and 3 a lot). Maybe even her teen/school life since she doesn’t blow off school as much as Morty does.

Fav friendship, hands down her and Morty. I feel like, at times, the top can work really well together (although not always- but that’s the complication with relations thier not always perfect). I also hope in future eps she makes some cool alien friends or something. I think that would be fun!

Crossover ship? Ehhhhh? Her and Wendy from Gravity Falls? I saw it once (or twice?) in fic/art and they seem pretty decent together. They would make a nice couple and also I think they’d also be pretty good friends! Yeah badass red heads unite!

Fav character, that is tricky. Staying strictly to canon game Wally (pure janitor boy) or Bertrum (local narssarsist finds someone who’s got an even bigger ego and now thier partners or AKA the octopus ride). I like Wally because throughout the whole game he’s got tapes and they’re always nice and cheerful which is a nice lil break (or poik(perk) as he’d say) from the horror and darkness. Also the whole probable he’s Perfect Boris just makes him better (I love Boris). And Bertrum; well for one he’s an annoying cool mini boss, I like that both him and Joey had big egos but he had one AND he seemed like a decent guy, cool design in general, and he’s got his motavations figured out Joey gipped him and now Joey’s gotta pay. As for everyone’s interpretation and also my personal hc? All of them! Even that bastard Joey!

No least fav’s. Some times I don’t like certain people’s interpretation of a character but I really like them all. If I had to pick one I’d say Allison since I felt in cannon she was a bit bland. But really in cannon we didn’t have much to go off of many of the characters.

Henry X Joey (like how can you not ship the protagonist and antagonist? Doesn’t every fandom do that? But honestly why else would you come back to mean bosses’ studio after 30 years if you two hadn’t dated or at least had a lil but more then a friendship. Also angst train woot woo). 

 Sammy X Suzie (ahhhh. I love em so much I just hsjaownjw. And it’s almost cannon and SO MUCH ANGST POSSIBLE HEHEHHE) 

 Tom X Alison (cannon but very cute). 

 Wally X Shawn (bring me the pure boys! Honestly this ship is kinda ‘random’ but also is a lil popular and has a toooonnnn if cute HC’s.).

Unpopular Opinion: Sammy, Henry, And Joey are all around same age and they grew up together. Idk if it’s unpopular but I’ve seen a lot of times Sammy is younger then the other two.

Cannon OTP: Samsie isn’t cannon? Maybe? it’s definitely alluded to but the only thing cannon cannon is Thomas X Allison so I guess by default them. 

Non Cannon: Wally X Shawn please and thank you

Badass character: based on cannon,Bertrum? Like I said he’s a heck of boss fight. Maybe Henry cause he’s had to dealt with everyone’s crap. Projectionist because he literally fist fights the ink demon. Based on personal hc Lacie.

Epic Villian: Idk if he counts as epic but Sammy was an interesting villian. I feel like he should’ve been explored more (so does the rest of the fandom) but I feel like straight up trying to sacrifice

Pairing I’m not a fan of: I used to not like Sammy X Wally but now I think it’s kinda cute. Maybe Wally X Norman just HC they have a more father son bond but I’ve seen some stories where it’s not the case sooo, it really does depend on people’s personal story. I also don’t care for Alice X Bendy (but some content of them is cute and I still enjoy some of it).

Character I feel like they screwed up: Sammy they didn’t do to much with even though he had a lot of potential. Same with Allison and Thomas who were kinda just bland especially Allison.

Character I identify with: when hc I project a lot on Wally but i don’t identify with anyone imparticular.

Character I wish I could be: I’m going to take this as if I could be one of the toons (and not in game toons, since I’d be trapped and I’d rather not) Boris. Who wouldn’t want to be a wolf who just eats all day. Or Edgar (spider boy) because he’s so cute!

About the Rick and Morty Finale

...maybe Morty made a ultimate sacrifice? 

Hear me out here. Morty knows Beth and Jerry aren’t well for each other. and honestly I stand by that. Beth admits she hated the night where Jerry knew it was this moment or never he would get her, but shes desperate extremely vulnerable; thinking she may or not be clone or real or if anything is real or matters for that matter, so when he kisses her just that feeling of someone she loved once before overwhelmed her into just jumping back into something that we’ve seen doesn’t make them happy in the long run ( fleeting moments yes but as a whole nah) 

Now as for Morty he’s seen his parents fight and be in a terrible place for 14 years as its gotten to the point where his sister doesn’t want to be anywhere near the house, whether its from the possibility of passive aggressive fighting, teen angst, or Beth’s former treatment to Summer and her lack of maternal instincts. Also yes, it gotten much much more demonized with Rick’s return into the Smith household and Rick admitting to Morty he got rid of Jerry and its been his plan basically from the start.

As to what this has to do with the Finale and ‘Morty’s Sacrifice’: with Rick’s involvement in their lives Morty has actually gotten; smarter, MUCH more confident, looks at the world in a much different view, became alot less gullible, and independent.  But, Morty still holds one thing dear to him still: He loves his family in a much more healthy way than rick ever could. You can see that with him calling various members of family but than will still stay by them and build them back, carrying Jerry after his mistakes with Kiara, taking care of, making sure summer is well constantly and spending time with Beth in the living room much more than he used to. At the cost of these bonds getting better ricks damnation has also put everlasting scars on everyone: Summer has killed people, threatened to be abandoned and left to be Rick and Morty’s maid when things go to shit. Beth is a lost soul who has no one to lean on and having very big realizing the man she idolized is just that a man who fucked her up, ( and messed with her greatly with the clone thing). Jerry comes to terms that’s he doesn’t know alot of his family and outside of that family he really doesn’t have much. With all these changes Morty’s come to realize there’s one constant in this: Ricks power of lording the family, the one moment that makes him realize that is the damn selfie. A thing Morty repeats constantly he doesn’t want anymore, so with the opportunity to make things right he takes the gun and goes to the same cabin they’ve hidden out before sees his parents are together again, summers actually happy for the first time in a long time and another scar rick left on Beth. Morty knew rick would come there, he knew he would come when he was detoxed earlier episodes. Rick and Morty forever. But the only difference, The family calls the shots cause everything’s happy for now.

TLDR - or summary thing?- Morty, takes the family to be found by Rick. Doesn’t call out Beth and Jerry’s sudden revival and refuses to let rick call the shots so that His family can be happy just like in ‘season one’.

Rebel with a cause - 2017 - Claire Rogers - ADAD1002

In my final interactive work “Rebel with a cause” is an amalgamation of my ideas retaining to the topic of rebellion. The title of the work has been purposefully selected and appropriated from the 1955 Nicholas Ray drama film “Rebel Without a Cause” purely because I haven’t seen the film and I want audiences to believe there is a possible link within the work to the film (oh wow look at me being rebellious).

The projected media display is a continuation from my interactive poster where the audience could physically swipe - disobeying the above above text. In my final work for assessment 2 I have created an interactive work using QR codes that allow audiences to be guided by the random colours selecting each code which they then can scan when it is selected (scan any code they like). The 4 links all take the audience to a rebellious page determined to be rebellious or not just by my own personal judgement.

This is a link to information about voting yes in the postal plebiscite. Although here in this accepting environment of UNSW Art and Design this isn’t a very rebellious act just the notion of spreading personal political views within a university isn't generally promoted.

I have combined my previous experiments to create the centre of my work and overlaid the text “Are you a rebel? - scan if you are” inviting audiences to interact with the piece. Overall my main aim in my work is to look at their own lives and see if they are a rebel, and if this is a good or bad thing. Rebellion is so often associated with teen angst or major political wars when in truth it is all around us everyday. We as the people hold the power to either do what the signs tell us (such as the one in my work) or make our own decisions and decide what is best for our own lives. Artists such as Shirin Neshat and Banksy are excellent examples of practitioners who rebel in ways that help causes and create discourse within communicates to ignite change. Obviously my work is a more fun and playful look at the topic but upon reflection of my final piece I can definitely see my self wanting to create more serious works that explore peoples ethics.

After re-reading my first Tumblr post I now see that I did not really specifically address the idea of “artistic appropriation v. general acts of copyright infringement” but have almost naturally incorporated the idea within my work as it features a lot of copyrighted content I have not sort permission to use. My work can only legally be used for educational/personal use.

In summation I have enjoyed creating this rebellious project and had a good time in class.
