'Hills Have Eyes' Gas Station An abandoned horror film set sits eerily along a highway through Hollywood's "door to the desert." An American-style gas station is waiting for you on the highway out of Ouarzazate. It’s not a hallucination; rather it is the set used for the 2006 horror film “The Hills Have Eyes.” It was here, at this gas station, that the film’s protagonists are advised to take a gory, gruesome “shortcut.” Even for those who aren’t familiar with the movie, the old station is a chilling sight. Supposedly, the eerie movie set looks so real people occasionally mistake it for an actual gas station. Smashed, weathered cars rust outside. Glass bottles glitter in the trees, and creepy puppets peer out from unexpected places. The gas station sits along the highway that runs through a small commune outside Ouarzazate, a city known as Hollywood’s “door to the desert.” It’s a hotspot for desert-based film sets and on-location shooting. 👉 DO YOU WANT TO SEE YOUR TRAVEL TIPS AND PICTURES OF MOROCCO FEATURED HERE, COMMENT BELOW AND SEND YOUR PHOTO IN PRIVATE. 😎😎 INSTAGRAM 👉 FOLLOW 👉😎😎 @moroccoclassictours TAG US OR US OUR HASHTAG #moroccoclassictours TO BE FEATURED ON OUR PAGE. ASSAKA, MOROCCO Imsouane hen one thinks of Morocco, it is the image of exotic souks, the Sahara Desert, and camel riding that comes to mind. Surfing, eating fresh-caught fish, and finding a California-esq surfer community are a surprise found in Imsouane, a dreamy town by the sea, hidden by the mountains. Imsouane is a haven for surfers who come to La Catedrale (a beach-break surf spot) and La Bay (a point break wave) to catch some serious rides. La Bay is known for having the longest waves in Morocco, proving a prime draw for the surfing community. Near La Catedrale, there are small fisherman villages where fish arrive by the boat full each morning to be sold at market and grilled for diners. This fish market is open for visitors. If you visit in the early morning, you will be able to buy fresh fish for really cheap and either cook it yourself in your hotel or Airbnb, or give it to local restaurants to cook it the way you like. Locals like to grill it with sea salt. Being one of the cleanest beaches in all of Morocco, Imsouane is a draw for its pristine setting, waves, and local culture. 👉 DO YOU WANT TO SEE YOUR TRAVEL TIPS AND PICTURES OF MOROCCO FEATURED HERE, COMMENT BELOW AND SEND YOUR PHOTO IN PRIVATE. 😎 😎 INSTAGRAM 👉 FOLLOW 👉 😎 😎 @moroccoclassictours TAG US OR US OUR HASHTAG #moroccoclassictours TO BE FEATURED ON OUR PAGE. tips by @hafiidii.omaar. ✨ #lifestyle #wanderlust #vacation #naturephotography #traveltheworld #amazing #instalike #sunset #california #travelgram #travelphotography #travelguide #travelblogger #travellers #travelbook https://www.instagram.com/p/B5UIwy2JP7i/?igshid=1hlbzuuye2z34

The Koutoubia Mosque The Koutoubia Mosque is the largest mosque in Marrakesh, Morocco. The mosque's name is also variably rendered as Jami' al-Kutubiyah, Kutubiya Mosque, Kutubiyyin Mosque, and Mosque of the Booksellers. It is located in the southwest medina quarter of Marrakesh, near the famous public place of Jemaa el-Fna, and is flanked by large gardens. The mosque was founded in 1147 by the Almohad caliph Abd al-Mu'min right after he conquered Marrakesh from the Almoravids. A second version of the mosque was entirely rebuilt by Abd al-Mu'min around 1158, with Ya'qub al-Mansur possibly finalizing construction of the minaret around 1195. This second mosque is the structure that stands today. It is considered a classic and important example of Almohad architecture and of Moroccan mosque architecture generally. The minaret tower, 77 metres in height, is decorated with varying geometric arch motifs and topped by a spire and metal orbs. It likely inspired other buildings such as the Giralda of Seville and the Hassan Tower of Rabat, which were built shortly after in the same era. The minaret is also considered an important landmark and symbol of Marrakesh 👉 DO YOU WANT TO SEE YOUR TRAVEL TIPS AND PICTURES OF MOROCCO FEATURED HERE, COMMENT BELOW AND SEND YOUR PHOTO IN PRIVATE. 😎 😎 INSTAGRAM 👉 FOLLOW 👉 😎 😎 @moroccoclassictours TAG US OR US OUR HASHTAG #moroccoclassictours TO BE FEATURED ON OUR PAGE. tips by @hafiidii.omaar. ✨ - - - - - - - - - - - - #travel #photography #travelphotography #nature #photooftheday #travelgram #love #instagood #wanderlust #adventure #Morocco #beautiful #picoftheday #explore #instatravel #vacation #naturephotography #travelblogger #tours #landscape #marrakech #traveling #sunset #trip #instagram #girltravel #happy #photooftheday (at Marrakech) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9ftpo8JcYX/?igshid=3i1uhpi8nquc

Tizi n’Tichka The direct route between Marrakesh and Ouarzazate, the Tizi n’Tichka (N9) is a spectacular piece of engineering, its pulse-racing series of switchbacks providing evermore jaw-dropping views until it eventually crests the central High Atlas at its eponymous pass. It was built to replace the old caravan route to the Drâa and the south, which was controlled during the nineteenth century and much of the twentieth by the legendary Glaoui family, the greatest and most ambitious of all the Berber tribal leaders – their kasbah-headquarters, a vast complex of buildings abandoned only in 1956, still stands at Telouet, less than an hour from the main road. ✨ - - - - - - - - - - - - #kasbah #aitbenhaddou #moroccan #Марокко #marokko #marruecos #village #culture #worldheritagesite #photo #casbahtaourirt #destinations #traveldestination #worldtravel #bookingcom #cinemastudio #ouarzazate #photooftheday #photographer #nikon #photogram#movie #cinema #cinephilecommunity #filmreviews #movieaddict #tripadvisor (at Tizi n'Tichka) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9cCG2-pH4g/?igshid=1dzpw87nruetw

Merzouga Adventure Activities Of course, the Sahara also provides ample inspiration for a number of adrenalin-fuelled activities. If you prefer the thrill of an engine over the swaying gait of the Merzouga camel trains, opt for a quad bike tour instead. Trips can last a few hours or several days, but all of them give you the chance to indulge in some serious off-road fun. Those with quads of steel can try their hand at sand-boarding or sand-skiing - kind of like traditional snow skiing, only considerably hotter and without the convenience of a ski lift! Hot air balloon rides over the dune sea can be arranged. Although pricey, witnessing the splendor of the Sahara from a unique birds-eye perspective is a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. 👉 DO YOU WANT TO SEE YOUR TRAVEL TIPS AND PICTURES OF MOROCCO FEATURED HERE, COMMENT BELOW AND SEND YOUR PHOTO IN PRIVATE. 😎 😎 INSTAGRAM 👉 FOLLOW 👉 😎 😎 @moroccoclassictours 😎 😎 WEBSITE 👉 www.moroccoclassictours.co TAG US OR US OUR HASHTAG #moroccoclassictours TO BE FEATURED ON OUR PAGE. tips by @hafiidii.omaar. ✨ - - - - - - #travelgirl #wearetravelgirls #travelgirls #travelgirlsgo #girlpowertravel #travellinggirl #darlingescapes #turkobjektif #travelcommunity #shetravels #journeysofgirls #discoverytravel #traveldiscovery #traveldeeper #travelpic #wanderlusttribe #traveldrops #travellerphoto #travelphotographers #lostplacesphotography #love #beautiful #landscape_capture #exploring_shotz #beachesofinstagram #explorensw https://www.instagram.com/p/B9QEh9jJz8l/?igshid=jl133ogq6gk1

Tifoultoute Kasbah Built in the 17th century and extended by the Glaoui clan in the 18th, this commanding hilltop kasbah has now been converted into a privately owned restaurant (open to diners till midnight), with tables scattered throughout the building. Though only the smaller 18th-century extension is open to visitors (the rest left to slowly return to the sands), several magnificently tiled rooms inside make it worth the trip. ✨ - - - - - - - - #travelgirl #wearetravelgirls #travelgirls #travelgirlsgo #girlpowertravel #travellinggirl #darlingescapes #turkobjektif #travelcommunity #shetravels #journeysofgirls #discoverytravel #traveldiscovery #traveldeeper #travelpic #wanderlusttribe #traveldrops #travellerphoto #travelphotographers #lostplacesphotography #love #beautiful #landscape_capture #exploring_shotz #beachesofinstagram #explorensw (at Ouarzazat, Ouarzazate, Morocco) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9NbiWVpi2U/?igshid=1du5m7g3hz7ki

Telouet Kasbah, Morocco The Telouet Kasbah stands on the old caravan route towards the Sahara, between Ait Ben Haddou and Marrakesh. It is somehow an easily missed historical site, with visitors often passing by unaware as they leave Morocco’s world famous UNESCO world heritage site for the imperial city of Marrakech. But the Kasbah arguably boasts some of the best Islamic architecture in Morocco and should not be missed if passing through the High Atlas Mountains. With an interior so intricately designed and a history so gripping, many visitors are stunned by the rewards reaped when deciding to turn off and drive the dusty narrow paths leading up to the building. 👉 DO YOU WANT TO SEE YOUR TRAVEL TIPS AND PICTURES OF MOROCCO FEATURED HERE, COMMENT BELOW AND SEND YOUR PHOTO IN PRIVATE. 😎 😎 INSTAGRAM 👉 FOLLOW 👉 😎 😎 @moroccoclassictours 😎 😎 WEBSITE 👉 www.moroccoclassictourscom TAG US OR US OUR HASHTAG #moroccoclassictours TO BE FEATURED ON OUR PAGE. tips by @hafiidii.omaar. ✨ - - - - - - - - #marrakech #morocco #maroc #marocco #marruecos #المغرب #travelphotography #travelgram #traveltheworld #instatravel #paris #london #amsterdam #usa #nyc #africa #casablanca #vacation #wanderlust #travel #photography #traveldeeper travelblogger #traveldeeper #travelguide #travellingthroughtheworld #dametraveler #mytinyatlas #lifewelltraveled #bestintravel #beautifuldestinations https://www.instagram.com/p/B9IcbuUp-xo/?igshid=1kqs7sfyk6dhu

Aït Benhaddou The first thing you hear from the guides on arrival at AÏT BENHADDOU, 190km from Marrakesh and just 34km from Ouarzazate, is a list of its film credits. Though this is a feature of much of the Moroccan south, the Benhaddou ksar has a definite edge over the competition. Lawrence of Arabia was filmed here, of course; Orson Welles used it as a location for Sodom and Gomorrah; and for Jesus of Nazareth the whole lower part of the village was rebuilt. In recent years, more controlled restoration has been carried out under UNESCO auspices, while film crews have been involved in some “re-modelling”. ✨ - - - - - - - - #travelphotography #travelgram #traveltheworld #instatravel #paris #london #amsterdam #usa #nyc #africa #casablanca #vacation #wanderlust #travel #photography #traveldeeper travelblogger #traveldeeper #travelguide #travellingthroughtheworld #dametraveler #mytinyatlas #lifewelltraveled #bestintravel #beautifuldestinations https://www.instagram.com/p/B9F6DBqp1qM/?igshid=1of05wxdfwsfm

Ouarzazate At some stage, you’re almost bound to spend a night in OUARZAZATE, the main access point and crossroads of the south, and it can be a useful if functional base from which to visit the ksour and kasbahs of Aït Benhaddou or Skoura. Although lacking the architectural charm of other settlements down here, the town nevertheless has a buzzy, almost cosmopolitan feel, which contrasts sharply with the sleepier places found elsewhere in the region. Like most of the new Saharan towns, Ouarzazate was created as a Foreign Legion garrison and administrative centre by the French in the late 1920s. During the 1980s, it became something of a boom town, as the tourist industry embarked on a wildly optimistic building programme of luxury hotels, based on Ouarzazate’s marketability as a staging point for the “Saharan Adventure”, and the town was given an additional boost from the attentions of filmmakers. ✨ - - - - - - #beautifuldestinations #ourplanetdaily #createcommune #photooftheday #discoverearth #nomad #earthcapture #awesomeglobe #roamtheplanet #earthofficial #thisismorocco #ouarzazate #cenima #art #morocco (at Ouarzazate) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9DRDYqpk-E/?igshid=10sbtpy42g53e

🌄⛰🌴 🇲🇦 Tafraoute Morocco 🇲🇦🌴 ⛰ 🌄 Nestled in a valley among the Anti-Atlas Mountains in the south of Morocco is one of the country’s most precious treasures: the secluded oasis of Tafraoute. You will have to drive some 250km from Agadir on winding roads and dirt paths to get there. Once you arrive you will realize Tafraoute is worth the effort. Set against a backdrop of incredibly shaped rock formations, this hard-to-reach town is one of Morocco most relaxing destinations and the perfect base to explore the Anti-Atlas region. With very few tourists, lovely small restaurants, and spectacular places for outdoor adventures, Tafraoute is the ideal destination for those seeking to enjoy a relaxing getaway or an adventurous few days among nature. Les Roches Bleues. These “Blue Rocks” are undoubtedly one of Tafraoute’s most iconic symbols. Painted in 1984 by Belgian artist Jean Verame (who repeated the feat in Texas) with the help of a local team of some 20 firemen, the rocks provided the perfect canvas for a multi-color piece of art. Today, they can be seen from the road when driving from Tiznit to Tafraoute. La Tete du Lion. This rock formation, which translates into English as “The Lion’s Head”, is located on top of a boulder on the Tafraoute Valley Mountain. Unsurprisingly its uncanny resemblance to a lion’s head is what inspired the name. Ait Mansour Gorge. Thirty kilometers from Tafraoute, the incredible Ait Mansour Gorge is located in the heart of the Anti-Atlas Mountains and is considered one of Morocco’s finest oases. The refreshing palm trees and spectacular views of surrounding mountain scenery make this one of the best places to bask in natural beauty. You can also enjoy plenty of activities such as swimming, hiking, biking and camping. 👉 DO YOU WANT TO SEE YOUR TRAVEL TIPS AND PICTURES OF MOROCCO FEATURED HERE, COMMENT BELOW AND SEND YOUR PHOTO IN PRIVATE. 😎 😎 INSTAGRAM 👉 FOLLOW 👉 😎 😎 @moroccoclassictours 😎 😎 WEBSITE 👉 www.moroccoclassictours.com TAG US OR US OUR HASHTAG #moroccoclassictours TO BE FEATURED ON OUR PAGE. tips by @hafiidii.omaar. ✨ #agadir #tiznit #morocco #ouarzazate #travelling #photooftheday #trip #travel #tourism #inst (at Morocco) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3FeOAwJQ52/?igshid=15j7k49ff5uxt

Ben Youssef Madrasa The largest madrasa in Morocco once housed more than 900 students within its exquisite walls. The Ben Youssef Madrasa is the largest madrasa in Morocco and one of the largest and most important in North Africa. Founded in the 14th century and later expanded, it ceased to function as an Islamic college in 1960, but remains one of the finest buildings in Marrakesh. The college was founded in the 14th century during the reign of the Marinid sultan Abu al-Hassan, taking its name from the neighboring Ben Youssef Mosque. Initially a modest madrasa, it was later reconstructed during the Saadian Dynasty by the Abdallah al-Ghalib, the second Saadian sultan of Morocco. Volibilus Volubilis has been excavated. The better-known monuments are in the northern part of the site, furthest from the entrance in the south. In the heat of a summer day, the sun can be incredibly fierce, so bring a hat and plenty of water. Spring is the ideal season, when wildflowers blossom amid the abandoned stones, and the surrounding fields are at their greenest. The best time to visit is either first thing in the morning or late afternoon; at dusk, when the last rays of the sun light the ancient columns, Volubilis is at its most magical. Although parts of certain buildings are roped off, you are free to wander the site at will. Just beyond the entrance gate lies the bones of a major on-site museum, which displays the ancient city's most celebrated finds and include prized discoveries (such as some fine bronzes). Although the least remarkable part of the site, the olive presses here indicate the economic basis of ancient Volubilis, much as the plentiful olive groves in the surrounding area do today – look for the flat presses and stone storage vats dotted about the site. Wealthy homeowners had private olive presses. Next to the House of Orpheus are the remains of Galen's Thermal Baths. Although largely broken, they clearly show the highly developed underfloor heating in this Roman hammam (look for the low arches). Opposite the steam room are the communal toilets – where citizens could go about their business and have a chat at the same time. The Capitol, Basilica and 1300-sq-metre Forum are, typically, built on a high point. The Capitol, dedicated to the Triad of Jupiter, Juno and Minerva, dates back to AD 218; the Basilica and Forum lie immediately to its north. The reconstructed columns of the Basilica are usually topped with storks’ nests – an iconic Volubilis image if the birds are nesting at the time of your visit. ✨ #history #photooftheday #architecture #nature #ancien https://www.instagram.com/p/B4atHizpCUB/?igshid=1kvvvqmmvk23m

🏖 🌳 🌊 🕌 Casablanca 🕌🏖 🌳 🌊 Casablanca, Morocco‘s commercial centre, tends to come lower down on the tourism list, behind the likes of Marrakech and Rabat; however the city’s French colonial legacy, entwined with the traditional Arab culture, ensures there’s lots of diverse things to do and see. Alongside the art deco buildings, and old stone medina alleys, visitors can find museums, palaces, and the second largest mosque in the world. Hassan II Mosque Completed in 1993 and located on a platform overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the iconic Hassan II Mosque is the second-largest mosque in the world, and one of few open to non-Muslims (through selected guided tour opportunities lasting around an hour each). The mosque, which can accommodate up to 25,000 worshipers, offers Muslims the chance to pray on a glass floor, giving the unique feeling of praying directly over the sea. Everyone is welcome to admire the beautiful piece of architecture at any time from the spacious courtyard, which alone can accommodate a further 80,000 people. ✨ #marruecos #tetouan #essaouira #fez #marakesh #travelgram #meknes #chefchaouen #marokko #visitmorocco #nature #desierto #marrocos #tangier #moroccotravel #ouarzazate #ouarzazatecity #ouarzazatestudios #ouarzazate☀ https://www.instagram.com/p/B3s8yz2p_pN/?igshid=17b6gf7cl8ae6
