Where to Buy Handmade Moroccan Rugs in the UK
Moroccan rugs are some of the most popular and sought-after rugs in the world. They are known for their unique designs, vibrant colors, and high quality. Handmade Moroccan Berber rugs and handmade Moroccan wool rugs are two of the most popular types of Moroccan rugs.
Handmade Moroccan Berber rugs
Handmade Moroccan Berber rugs are handwoven by Berber women in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. The Berber people are a group of indigenous people who have lived in Morocco for centuries. They are known for their rich culture and traditions, and their rugs are a reflection of this.
Berber rugs are made from 100% sheep's wool. The wool is hand-spun and hand-dyed, and then it is woven into rugs using traditional methods. Berber rugs are known for their durability and longevity, and they can last for generations with proper care.
Berber rugs come in a wide variety of styles and designs. Some of the most popular Berber rug designs include:
Beni Ourain rugs: Beni Ourain rugs are known for their simple, geometric designs and their thick, plush pile. They are typically made in shades of white and cream, with occasional pops of color.

Afrocentric Hair & Skin Care 101
What is Afrocentric hair and skin care?
There’s a difference between general black hair and skin care vs. Afrocentric hair and skin care. A lot of mainstream brands sold in stores targeted at black hair and beauty are designed FOR black people but aren’t made BY black people and/or don’t contain ingredients from our own cultures.
You should always pick the products in your price range and that are good for your hair and your body! But it’s also helpful to be an informed consumer when choosing between hundreds of beauty brands - and unfortunately, the information isn’t always readily available. So here’s a simple guide to Afrocentric hair and skin care to help you put the best nature can provide into your body while also supporting and giving back to our own communities.
What’s good for my hair and skin?
Here’s some tips and general guidelines that I’ve learned so far through research and practice on my hair and skin hair journey!
1. The more natural, the better. Now, personally, I wouldn’t say this about everything in life! Pharmaceuticals can be life-saving, and I don’t think all natural or traditional remedies should be used in place of prescribed medications. However, when it comes to the regular care of your skin and hair - the fewer toxins and chemicals are absorbed by your body, the better!
2. As I’ve done more research, I’ve discovered that in most cases when it comes to all-natural ingredients, what’s good for your hair is also what’s good for your skin - and vice versa. Most natural ingredients can be used to hydrate, heal, protect, soothe, and strengthen your skin and your hair!
3. One size does not fit all. On your own journey to care for your skin and hair, you’ll want to experiment with different oils, butters, creams, and products to find out which types, combinations, and amounts work best for your skin and hair types! Find out if you have normal, dry, oily, combination, or sensitive skin to get a sense of what your skin care needs are. Knowing your hair type is also helpful for figuring out what types of products will keep it the healthiest and strongest.
4. Always read the ingredients list on the labels of any products you purchase. Whether you’re buying a supposedly single-ingredient product or something that lists three natural ingredients on its front label, always look at the fine print and check the official list. For instance, SheaMoisture is an excellent and popular black-owned skincare brand, but unfortunately, many of their products do include chemicals alongside the good stuff. And if you don’t check the labels, you might wind up with a “99% aloe vera gel” that contains mostly water.
This is a long post so click below the read more line to get to my lists of black-owned skin & hair care brands + Afrocentric skin & hair care ingredients.
Which skin and hair care ingredients are Afrocentric?
The following ingredients are all from different parts of Africa or were used traditionally in Africana cultures. They are all good for both skin and hair care, and they all contain good juju - physical and spiritual properties that are healing, rejuvenating, and nourishing for the body.

10 Best Men's Shampoo (All Hair Types) Reviews The type of shampoo and conditioner you use have a significant impact on getting the best results for your hair. It starts right at the root. Just like you treat the skin to the best products to get the best result, the hair too should have the same respect and treatment. Not only is washing your hair with basic shampoo hygienic but also you can deal with several issues that affect the growth of hair such as dandruff, greasy scalps, loss of hair and thinning of hair. Fragrance also is an important aspect to consider. You want your hair to have a masculine scent after a shower, don’t you? A shampoo works just like soap, to get rid of the excess oils and dirt that accumulate on the head. But how often you should shampoo your head depends on several factors. For men that regularly use hair products, experts recommend that they should shampoo their head more often. Using too much hair products can lead to the pores on the head clogging; hence shampooing is necessary to help open up the pores. Read Next: Best Dandruff Shampoo For Men Reviews Best Shampoo for Thinning Hair Men PURA D'OR Original Gold Label Anti-Thinning Shampoo [amazon box="B00FH692PQ" grid="1"] The PURA D'OR Original Gold label is a shampoo that has been clinically tested and proven to help in reducing hair thinning and falling. The formula contains 21 natural ingredients that work by improving the strength and the thickness of hair. It as well contains argan oil that balances the natural moisture of the hair and keeping the scalp hydrated. It also contains hydrogenated olive oils that keep the hair shiny and help to avoid frizz. Choosing a Shampoo When it comes to choosing a shampoo for your hair, you may find it hard especially if you do not know what you should consider. There are very many different brands with all kinds of shampoos for various purposes. Be it moisturizing, strengthening, hydrating, increasing in volume, thickening the hair, and many others. How do you make the correct selection? Instead of considering your hair type, your first objective is to focus on your scalp. It is when you choose a hair conditioner that you should focus on the hair. If your scalp is oily, you should consider getting a shampoo that will treat the oily scalp then a conditioner that will hydrate your hair afterward. Similarly to how you handle the face, by cleansing, you should as well address the hair the same way by dealing with the scalp and later on introducing moisture back to the hair with the right conditioner. Avoid acquiring shampoos that indicate on the label to have hydrating, soothing or moisturizing properties. These shampoos come with an extra moisturizer and worsen the problem. You should instead purchase shampoos whose ingredients do not contain moisturizing properties such as those whose label read balancing, volumizing and strengthening. For the shampoo to work effectively, take enough time to work it through the scalp so that it may break up the excess oils. On the other hand, if you have a dry scalp, you may sometimes feel itchy or have dandruff. You should understand that there are different levels of scalp dryness. Minor dryness does not have lots of dandruff or even itch a lot. For such, you should get a shampoo that can introduce moisture to the head and leave it hydrated. If you have a very dry scalp, you may be experiencing severe itching and lots of dandruff on the head. It is best that you avoid shampoos that have labels that indicate them to be volumizing, fortifying, or strengthening. These shampoos will only make things worse by getting rid of the already limited moisture that is present on your scalp. Instead, go for shampoos that have tea tree oil in them. Tea tree oil helps to provide deep moisturizing. If you have a healthy scalp, it is easy to control the problems in your hair. Therefore, you should consider getting a shampoo that comes with an even ratio of cleaning and moisturizing properties. Understanding the Different Types of Shampoos Sulphate-Free Shampoo Several shampoos in the market are made up of sulfates. The sulfate-free shampoo’s formula contains a little to no amount of an alkaline soap base. Unlike the shampoos that contain sulfate which dries your hair by ridding off any moisture on the hair scalp, the sulfate-free shampoo helps to maintain your hairs natural oils and keep the hair texture soft. Clarifying Shampoo If you use a lot of hair products on your hair, you may sometimes notice that some hair may weigh down. A clarifying shampoo helps to get rid of the hair product build up and the excess natural oils from the scalp keeping your head fresh and clean. If your hair is greasy and weighs down, you may use this shampoo to remove the deposits. You should, however, note that clarifying shampoos can be harsh. Therefore it is only right to use them once or twice a week alongside a hair conditioner. Keratin Shampoo Keratin is an essential protein that you can find in the hair. A hair that lacks keratin may appear to be brittle and start to damage. By using a keratin shampoo, you can restore keratin to the hair and repair any damage that may be occurring. It is also useful when you want to reduce the frizz to get stronger and healthier hair. Volumizing Shampoo Volumizing shampoos open the hair cuticles and encourage the hair to grow and become thicker. They are best if you have very light hair and you want to add some more body to it. Dry Shampoo Dry shampoos are useful if you want to give your hair a quick refresh to make it less greasy without the necessity of having to take a full shower. They can come as a powder, spray or even liquid. You only need to make a small amount and apply on your hair spreading it deep through the roots to clean and absorb all the excess grease. The 2-in-Shampoo It helps to cleanse the hair as well as condition it. The 2-in-Shampoo is a cheaper alternative to getting two different products and also helps in saving time in the shower. It primarily works by cleaning off the hair while also depositing some conditioning properties on the hair. They are best for use if your hair requires only a moderate amount of cleaning and a lot of conditioning. They may not be useful to everybody since there is a limitation to their usage. Color-Protecting Shampoo If your hair is colored, you may consider getting a shampoo that protects the hair color. These shampoos are mild and may as well add on similar properties such as those deposited by shampoos for dry and damaged hair. They have kelp or algae that act as color boosters to protect and revitalize the different shades of colors. Medicated shampoo These shampoos aim at reliving the scalp from itching, getting rid of dandruff and cleansing the scalp. They work by removing the sebum efficiently, eliminating the scalp scale and also have antibacterial properties. You can find most of them over the counter. Everyday shampoo If you are looking for a shampoo that you can use daily, you should consider an everyday shampoo. It is made for people that are intolerant to sebum. The shampoo formula is mild and does not strip off or clean as a clarifying shampoo does. It, however, helps to clean the dirt that accumulates daily. You can replace the everyday shampoo with baby shampoo. Tips When Using a Shampoo As much as it is important to shampoo your hair, you should do it less frequently. Several shampoos in the market have sodium lauryl sulfate, a detergent that not only cleans the hair but also scraps off all the natural oils that your scalp produces to protect your hair. This makes your hair dry and brittle. The best way to use shampoo is once or twice a week. It is also of importance that you ensure your hydrate your hair from the scalp to keep it soft and ensure that it does not dry out across the day. Conclusion When you want to buy men’s shampoo, you should always first consider the type of scalp. Never forget that a dry scalp is very different from an oily scalp in terms of the shampoo requirements. Of course, if you have a healthy scalp, you can get a shampoo that balances out well in offering its cleaning and moisturizing properties. Some of the ingredients that may be beneficial for you to look out for in a shampoo include Aloe Vera that helps in repairing dead skin cells, Jojoba oil that helps hair cells to reproduce faster and shea butter that provides moisture. Apart from considering the type of scalp when choosing a good shampoo for men, you should as well look into the ingredients in use, the scent and most importantly the price. Can’t Go on Vacation? Recreate a Hotel Vibe in Your Home
Going on vacation is a great way to relax and refresh. And if you stay in a luxury hotel, lakeside inn, resort spa, or elegant bed and breakfast, you’ll also enjoy a lush living area, and a luxurious bathroom experience. However, you can create that hotel vibe in your own home, and enjoy luxurious living every day. Here’s how to achieve those looks.
Make your bed irresistible
A plush bed is inviting. Image: Beyond Time/Shutterstock
One thing everyone enjoys about luxury hotels: the luxurious beds. However, Wendy Hammerman, Founder & Lead Designer at WLH Interiors, a full service interior design studio, says you can recreate that vibe by investing in new bedding. “There is something about crisp, clean, freshly laundered sheets that says ‘I’m on vacation!’” Hammerman says. She also recommends a cozy down comforter and a feather mattress topper. “Add lots of fluffy pillows, the fluffier the better, and last but not least, add a throw at the end of the bed for a homey feel and perhaps a pop of color.”
Consider sheets with a higher thread count. Image: courtesy of Lance Selgo with Unique Exposure Photography.
Karen Otto of Home Star Staging agrees that luxury linens can create a luxury hotel vibe for a staycation or when family and friends come to visit. “Look for sheet thread counts higher than 500, and since we run an Airbnb, we always purchase white for ease of cleaning – and they always just look fresh and inviting.” Otto says. “From comfy pillows to fluffy absorbent white towels in the bath, who wouldn’t want to feel like they’ve come home to a luxurious night’s sleep in a bed that looks like it was made at a 5-star hotel?”
Use appealing scents
The right scent sets the right mood. Image: Rido/Shutterstock
While creating an environment that appeals to your senses, don’t forget your sense of smell. “The first thing you will notice when you arrive at a high-end, luxury hotel and spa is the aroma,” says Hammerman. When you enter the resort, she says you’re surrounded by a fabulous fragrance that evokes feelings of calm and comfort. “Whether it’s beachy, floral or clean and crisp, smell is a great way to transform your space and instantly take you away to another place without leaving home.”
Hammerman recommends using a candle or atomizer that you can get at any home store. “Nest is a popular brand with several scents to choose from, including my personal favorite, Grapefruit – clean, fresh and fruity.” She also recommends Ocean Mist and Sea Salt, which smell like the beach. And if you want sometime more exotic, Hammerman suggests Moroccan Amber. “If candles aren’t your thing, Aroma 360 offers a plug-in with an array of interchangeable options, depending on your mood.”
Recreate a spa bathroom
Achieve a spa-like experience at home. Aqua-Sense Collection. Image courtesy of GRAFF
If you want to transform your bathroom to feel like it’s in a luxury hotel, Celine Marcotte, Business Development Manager at GRAFF, recommends refreshing the shower. “Products that stimulate the senses instantly provide a luxury hotel feel. Water, light, and sound, orchestrated in a harmonic balance allow for a deeper sense of wellness, a sensation and experience that can be achieved with GRAFF’s Aqua-Sense Collection, which uses chromotherapy and LED lights.” And the finishes and textures can also enhance a space’s appeal. “For example, 24K Gold, Rose Gold, and Matte Black come to mind as uber luxurious options.”
Marcotte also recommends accessories that can update your bathroom and can be easily swapped out. “Grab bars are one way to go, providing both an elevated style and a great aging in place solution.”
The right showerhead makes a big difference.
According to Leah Tuttleman, a designer at Re-Bath, sounds and sights can help you achieve an ultimate level of relaxation. “Let stress float away with a countertop waterfall to help your spa achieve an air of serenity. Install dimmer switches to set a calm, sunset-like mood to capture the essence of a professional spa’s tranquil ambiance.” And you can achieve this experience by just upgrading to a massage shower head. “Whether you prefer a waterfall shower, high-pressure or hand-held, these modern designs that mimic the natural flow of falling rain emanate relaxation.”
Other elements reminiscent of high-end luxury hotels include touchless faucets and soap dispensers, and Tuttleman says they’re easy to install. “Also, matching benches are a beautiful, functional addition to almost any shower, and a built-in caddy makes storage a breeze so you can focus on that clean, simple, minimalist look of a 5-star hotel.”
Layer your lighting
There are many ways to create lighting. Image: Beyond Time/Shutterstock
Hotel rooms usually provide several lighting options. “Layer your windows with a lighter drape to accommodate sun-filtering light and a heavier drape that creates a black-out effect essential for sleeping late on lazy weekends,” Hammerman recommends. “Also, consider a 3-way bulb in your bedside lamp which gives you the option of a bright reading light or the opportunity to create a softer ambiance.”
Lighting effects can change the look of your home. Image courtesy of Philips Hue
And there are other tips and tools to hlep you vary lighting – for example, Mike Deschamps, US Product Marketing Director at Philips Hue Signify, recommends layering your lighting – with ambient, accent and task lighting – to recreate a luxury hotel vibe at home. “Ambient lighting illuminates your space evenly; you can achieve this with the right ceiling fixtures or recessed lighting,” he says. “Accent lighting sources indirectly illuminate spaces while remaining mostly hidden; for example, use the Philips Hue Play light bars to highlight particular elements in your room like artwork or plants. “
In addition, Deschamps says you can use light strips in cabinets or under a bed or sofa. “Lastly, bring in task lighting through table and floor lamps to give you the light you need for specific activities like reading.”
Use a multi-functional sofa
Who doesn’t love a great – and great-looking – sofa? Image: Beyond Time/Shutterstock
Luxurious leather sofas are common in upscale hotel lobbies and private rooms. Whether you’re waiting in the lobby with all of your luggage, or you return to your room loaded down with a laptop and suitcase – or after a busy day of shopping – those stylish sofas are convenient and handy.
However, you can also create this look at home, for less than you might think. And you won’t even have to leave the sofa when you want to charge your phone and other devices.
A versatile, luxurious sofa without the luxurious price tag. Images courtesy of Coddle
For example, the Coddle Smart Couch is stylish and versatile, and is available in leather and microfiber verions. “It was designed entirely with the consumer in mind. With built-in USB ports and outlets, and the ability to transform into over a dozen different positions, the couch is both practical and useful, without sacrificing a luxurious feel,” says Nuri Djavit, CMO of Coddle. It folds flat to become a sleeper sofa, but you can also choose to fold up the arm rests on either side, or fold up all or just half of the back section. In addition, any spills wipe right up.
“Through the Coddle Smart Couch’s modern design and high-end materials and finishes, the atmosphere of a luxury hotel is easily recreated, but at a reasonable price point,” Djavit say.
Redesign your storage
Eliminate clutter by keeping everything out of sight. Images courtesy of Ornare
In most hotel rooms, there’s a place for everything, which reduces the clutter in your room. “Declutter your space, especially your bedside tables. Keeping only the essentials handy (and maybe some fresh cut flowers) helps bring a sense of calm and simplicity,” Hammerman says. Removing unnecessary items also creates more space in the room – making it appear to be larger. And you don’t have to have a walk-in closet. “We are seeing a lot of our clients redesign their master suites lined with Ornare closet doors that become part of the design of the room, and leave the bed to float in the room – instant private island,” says Claudio Faria, director of Ornare USA.
Choose a soothing paint color
A neutral tone provides a soothing backdrop. Image courtesy of Benjamin Moore.
“For better or worse, that warm Southwest-type of palette has come to be associated with mass hotel chains, and so, if you’re going for luxury or boutique, the exact opposite in terms of color and design is key,” explains Benjamin Moore Color and Design Expert, Nivara Xaykao. “Nothing beats crisp white walls, and luckily, there are new paint products out there that can keep your bedroom walls looking pristine. She recommends Chantilly Lace as one of the company’s favorite whites for achieving this look. “To bring a designer’s touch to the space, keep accent colors cool and neutral with calming grays and graphic blacks. Bold color statements can transform the bathroom into a special sanctuary.”
Deep blues are also calming and always stylish. “Lastly, don’t forget paint sheen. Higher glosses in the right places, like cabinetry and trim, can really heighten the glamour in a space,” Xaykao says.
Add artwork
Artwork can add personality to your space. Image courtesy of ArtSugar.
The last step is to incorporate artwork to liven up those blank walls. “Hammerman recommends a palette of warm neutrals to create a soothing hotel-like environment.
And fortunately, you don’t have to spend a lot to get quality artwork. You can buy large framed art prints to recreate eye-catching looks without breaking the bank,” according to Alix Greenberg, Founder and CEO of ArtSugar, who recommends incorporating art featuring scenic landscapes to remind you of being on vacation. “Art or art prints featuring beaches, mountains, or even jungles can create a feeling of wanderlust, reminding you of being in a luxury hotel,” Greenberg says.
However, she recommends keeping frame colors simple. “Stick with white or black frames for a chic and elegant look reminiscent of a luxury hotel.”

“For example, 24K Gold, Rose Gold, and Matte Black come to mind as uber luxurious options.” You can also get ideas from the 2019 Trends in Bathroom Technology.
Marcotte also recommends accessories that can update your bathroom and can be easily swapped out. “Grab bars are one way to go, providing both an elevated style and a great aging in place solution.”

Image courtesy of Lance Selgo with Unique Exposure Photography.

Spring clean your skincare routine
Hello from Portland! How’s the morning going? I’m in town for a quick brand meeting and then headed back to Tucson later today. Even though it’s been a quick trip, I’ve still managed to have some fun and I’ll share a recap soon.
The weather has been nice and rainy here, but spring is in full bloom in Tucson, which means lots of spring cleaning. And by “spring cleaning” I mean the never-ending quest of unpacking the Valdosta stuff. We think we’ll probably be in this house for a few years (so weird to be in the same spot for a bit!) so we’re trying to be strategic about what we keep. I was excited to ditch the unpacking and escape for a night.
I intended for this post to go live early last week, but it ended up taking way longer than I anticipated. I hope you enjoy this one and can use an idea or two!
Spring is such a great time to turn over a new leaf and use this seasonal burst of motivation to make some healthy changes. I think it’s a bit easier to want to make new fitness and nutrition changes during the spring. The weather is warming up, which makes outdoor runs and al fresco yoga sessions so much more enticing, and all of the spring produce makes smoothies and salads much easier to include. I enjoy a smoothie so much more when I’m not bundled up in a fleece jacket and beanie.
When we think of healthy changes, I feel like skincare and personal products are usually forgotten. I focused on eating clean and working out for years before I decided to investigate the ingredients in the skincare I was using. When I finally did decide to figure out what was in my favorite products, I was shocked. Many of them were filled with harmful ingredients, and I felt overwhelmed with all of the “clean” options. Also, sometimes because a company uses good ingredients doesn’t mean the products work! Some of the worst beauty products have come from my favorite health food stores (like the “all-natural” conditioner that literally turned my hair into a mound of straw.)
For today’s post, I thought I’d share some of the things to keep in mind if you’re looking to spring clean your skincare routine:
(Please keep in mind that I’m not an esthetician. If you’re looking for personalized skincare help, seek out a nearby spa that you trust that uses organic products. In a spa setting, I highly recommend the Eminence Organics line. They’re vegan, cruelty free, use organic ingredients, and plant-derived. While I’m not an esthetician, I am a research machine mama. In this post, I’m sharing some of the things I consider and have found to help when I’m researching products for my own family.)
Here are a few ingredients to keep an eye out for when reading ingredient labels on your skincare products.
1 — Parabens. On ingredient lists, these look like methylparaben, propylparaben and ethylparaben. They are anti-fungal and preservative chemicals, commonly used in cosmetics to prevent bacteria growth. They have been shown to mimic estrogen and act as hormone disruptors, and have even been linked to breast cancer. Most conventional skincare products contain parabens, so switch to a brand (or even make your own) that uses safer ingredients.
2 — Alcohols. Not all alcohols are bad, but you do want to avoid ingredients like ethanol, denatured, isopropyl, methanol or ethyl alcohol. So many skincare products use alcohol, that one would think it’s a healthy, rejuvenating ingredient for your skin. Actually, alcohol is most commonly included to add a weightless quality to otherwise thick lotions and creams, making the product feel more luxurious than it really is. Additionally, alcohol helps the products to better penetrate the skin… by destroying your skin’s barrier. You don’t need that! When you’re reading ingredient labels, look for GOOD alcohols (otherwise known as “fatty” alcohols) that are healthy for your skin and used by more responsible skincare companies. These include cetyl, stearyl, and cetearyl.
3 — Oils. There is a common misconception that putting oil on your skin leads to acne. However, just like with the food you eat, there are good oils and not so good oils. You just need to make sure you’re using the right kind! Our skin requires oil, and creates its own –called sebum— which waterproofs, hydrates and protects our skin from harmful microorganisms. Unfortunately, so many products are designed to rid your skin of oil, which can dry it out. Your skin will then react by overcompensating with too much sebum, and this is what leads to breakouts.
4 — Fragrance. “Fragrance” is an umbrella term that companies can use to hide hundreds of chemicals. Companies are not required to disclose what is labeled as “fragrance.” Exposure could lead to asthma, and fragrance lingers on the skin for hours. You’ll find it in everything: shampoo, sunscreen, baby lotion, diapers, soap, etc. If there’s one tip to take away from this post, I’d say stay away from fragrance.
Use the EWG Healthy Living App. This is one of my all-time favorite resources for choosing products. You can scan the product directly on your phone and it will rate it based on the ingredients. When I first found this app, I went through our bathroom cabinets and it really helped me to scale down the brands we use and purchase. Keep in mind that not all products are listed in the app because companies are not required to disclose their ingredients.
Look out for kids’ products. This one is disheartening to me because you would think that kids’ products would have the safest ingredients and it’s not the case at all. It’s not uncommon to see parabens listed in the ingredients.
More ingredients to avoid in kids’ products:
– Talc. It’s a drying agent that is a lung irritant and could be carcinogenic.
– Propelene Glycol. Despite the fact that it is “generally recognized as safe,” it’s lacking in extensive human-based studies on the effects of this substance.
– Mineral oil. Opt for a gentle plant-based oil, like coconut, jojoba, or sweet almond.
If all of this feels overwhelming – I feel ya! – find a few brands that you know, love, and trust, and stick with those. That’s absolutely what we do and whenever I’m trying something new, I’ll scan it in EWG or do a quick Google search.
(Holding my fave sunless tanner and Eminence strawberry exfoliator)
All in all, I think it’s just a matter of picking your battles and finding out what changes make sense for you. A whole lifestyle change is overwhelming and not attainable in the short term. Make little changes here and there and then build. For example, switch out your facial cleanser to something safer, and then maybe a month later, try a new night cream. Gradually replace makeup or body products. Try a natural deodorant. If you only change one thing, try a safer body lotion. Our skin is our largest organ and absorbs everything we put onto it. Any change you can make is a positive one and know what products are “worth it” for you. (For example, you can pry Moroccan Oil from my cold, dead hands. It’s loaded with fragrance and weird ingredients but it’s the only thing that controls this mane so far.) It doesn’t have to be black and white, just like fitness or nutrition. Aim for a grand scheme of things approach and you’ll be good to go.
Some of my go-to brands:
– Primally Pure. (<— referral link) The best natural mosquito repellent!
– Schmidt’s deodorant. I LOVE the rose scent and it actually works. I don’t smell stinky, even after tough workouts. All products are free of aluminum, propylene glycol, SLS, PEG, parabens, phthalates, artificial fragrance, artificial flavor, artificial colorants, and artificial sweeteners. They’re also vegan and cruelty-free.
– SheaMoisture. You can find their products at Target. I always use their body wash and love their hair mask. They’re organic, sustainably-produced, and free of many of the harmful ingredients listed above. They use coconut oil in many of their products, which smell beautiful and feel thick and luxurious, even though they’re extremely inexpensive.
– Beautycounter: (<— my site link) free of 1500 toxic ingredients that are banned in the UK but commonly used in the US. I’m happy to work with a company who is fighting for reform in a severely unregulated industry. All products are tested three times for heavy metals and work beautifully. If you need help with suggestions, please let me know! My faves: the Dew Skin, Overnight Peel, Color Intense lipstick, any lipgloss, and the face oil.
– Phlur! (<— referral link) This is the best natural perfume I’ve found that doesn’t use artificial fragrance. They’re transparent with their ingredients and the Améline scent is gorgeous. I also highly recommend their candles!
So tell me, friends: is there anything you actively look for in your health and beauty products? Any new brands you’ve tried and loved??
xo
Gina
