Once upon a time in the bustling souks of Marrakech, there lived a talented young chef named Ahmed. Ahmed was known far and wide for his culinary prowess, particularly when it came to crafting the most mouthwatering Moroccan dishes.
One sunny afternoon, as Ahmed was browsing the vibrant market stalls for fresh ingredients, he stumbled upon a curious sight—a crate overflowing with the juiciest lemons he had ever seen. Inspired by this fortuitous find, Ahmed decided to create a new recipe that would showcase the bright and zesty flavors of these magnificent lemons.
Heading back to his kitchen, Ahmed set to work preparing his masterpiece—Moroccan Lemon Chicken Oven Roasted, or Djaj Mqualli as it was known in his homeland. He carefully seasoned the succulent chicken with a blend of aromatic spices, including cumin, paprika, and turmeric, before generously squeezing fresh lemon juice over the top.
As the chicken roasted in the oven, filling the air with tantalizing aromas, Ahmed couldn't help but hum a cheerful tune. Little did he know, his melodious singing had attracted the attention of a mischievous little genie who had been lurking nearby.
Intrigued by the delicious scent wafting from Ahmed's kitchen, the genie decided to pay him a visit. With a mischievous twinkle in his eye, the genie waved his magic wand and cast a spell over the chicken, infusing it with an extra dose of lemony goodness.
When Ahmed opened the oven to check on his creation, he was amazed to find that the chicken had transformed into the most delectable dish he had ever laid eyes on. Tender and juicy, with a tantalizing citrus flavor that danced on the taste buds, it was truly a feast fit for a sultan.
Word of Ahmed's extraordinary Moroccan Lemon Chicken Oven Roasted spread like wildfire throughout Marrakech, and soon people from far and wide were flocking to his restaurant to sample the magical dish for themselves. From that day forward, Ahmed's Djaj Mqualli became a beloved staple of Moroccan cuisine, cherished by all who had the pleasure of tasting it. And as for the mischievous little genie? Well, let's just say he was never far from Ahmed's kitchen, always eager to lend a hand—or a sprinkle of magic—whenever needed.

story of my life
pairing: jj maybank x fem!reader

warnings: !major spoiler for obx4 final!, angst, establish relationship, nearly death experience, no use of y/n, english isn't my first language

a/n: requested by this ask. i still haven't found the strength to watch s4, but i like to write about it. you know, after all this emotionally difficult month, all your requests help me not to go crazy. so thank you very much.
ᯓ★ now playing...
one direction - story of my life
YOU HAD ALWAYS LOVED LIFE. Even through all the chaos and heartbreak, you clung to it with fierce devotion, treasuring every moment. Your greatest dream wasn’t wealth or fame — it was to live boldly, to see the world in vivid color, to grow old with stories of wild adventures alongside the Pogues, the family you had found and held so dear. They were your anchor, your everything.
But life, for all its beauty, has taught you a bitter truth: it isn’t always fair. More often than not, it is harsh and unrelenting, a storm that leaves you scrambling for shelter. You’d learned to accept that, to carry on, to find joy even in the darkest corners. And you did, always.
What you never prepared for — what you could never imagine — was just how cruel it could truly be.
You weren’t ready for the knife. You weren’t ready for the split-second decision, the instinct that drove you to shield him, to put yourself in harm’s way without hesitation. All you cared about at that moment was that JJ would be safe. And he was.
But you?
No amount of planning or foresight could have prepared you for this — the searing pain, the hot Moroccan sand beneath you, and the endless blue sky above, eerily reminiscent of home. You’d spent your life navigating every twist and turn, surviving every trial fate threw at you, but now your strength ebbed away with every heartbeat.
Life really was cruel.
You and the Pogues had always known that, enduring its relentless trials together, earning your scars the hard way. But this? This was different. This was a cruelty you’d never known — a cruelty you couldn’t accept.
It wasn’t the dying that broke you, even though your dream of growing old with stories to tell burned brightly in your chest until the very end. Death itself wasn’t what hurt most. You had danced with it so many times before, always escaping, always one step ahead.
No, what shattered you was the sight of JJ Maybank, the boy who had stolen your heart and become your everything, cradling you as life slipped through your fingers. His tears fell like rain, his voice hoarse from screaming for help that wouldn’t come. His hands trembled, desperately trying to hold you together, trying to stop the bleeding, trying to defy the inevitable.
That was the real cruelty. Watching his world break as yours faded.
But now, as you stared up at the endless blue sky, its hue so much like his eyes and the tranquil ocean, it didn’t seem so cruel after all. Dying to save the person you loved most — it wasn’t a punishment. It was a gift, wasn’t it? To offer your life for the one who taught you how to love — that was a blessing.
A soft smile touched your lips as you reached out a trembling hand to his face, your fingers brushing his cheek, catching the tears that fell like rivers. His pain was unbearable to witness, but the warmth of his skin under your touch grounded you, even as the world slipped further away.
“Jay,” you whispered, your voice thin and fractured, each word scraped from a well of pain you refused to show him. You had always been strong — for the Pogues, for him. You couldn’t stop now. “It’s okay. I’m okay.”
He froze, his frantic movements stilling for a moment as your words cut through his panic. You swallowed hard, pushing down the agony clawing at your chest, determined to ease the fear in his eyes, if only a little.
“The luck had to run out eventually,” you continued, a faint chuckle escaping despite the weight crushing your lungs. “And, honestly? Dying in the arms of my first and only love… That’s pretty romantic, don’t you think? I’m like the main character in one of those cheesy teen dramas you hate so much.”
The effort of your laugh sent a sharp jolt of pain through your body, pulling a wet cough from your lips. The metallic tang of blood filled your mouth, and your chest burned with the force of it. You tried to hide it, but JJ saw — of course, he saw.
His face crumpled, and the desperation in his voice pierced through you like the knife had. “No. No. No. You’re not dying. I won’t let you die.”
His hands trembled as he held you, his grip firm yet unbearably gentle, as if afraid you’d slip away entirely if he let go. He rocked you slightly, his movements uneven and frantic, his voice cracking as he screamed for help, calling out for the others, begging the universe to give him just one more miracle.
“You can’t leave me,” he choked out, his words tumbling over one another in a broken, frantic rush. “You’re not getting rid of me that easy, you hear me? I’ll pester you until you’re old and gray. Forever. That’s the deal, remember?”
His words wavered, drenched in panic and pain, as if sheer determination alone could defy the inevitable. You wanted to tell him it was okay, that he’d be okay, that you didn’t regret a single thing. But the truth was, seeing him like this — the boy who was your whole world shattered and breaking — hurt more than the knife ever could.
A soft, broken laugh escaped your lips, each tremor in your chest sending ripples of pain through your body. Breathing felt like trying to hold onto smoke — fleeting and agonizing. Why did it have to hurt so much? You drew a shallow, shaky breath, your hand brushing over JJ’s tear-streaked cheek. He clung to you like you were the only solid thing left in his crumbling world, his eyes squeezed shut, his face twisted with anguish.
Even now, even like this, he was beautiful. It wasn’t fair.
You’d thought it a hundred times before, over the years spent by his side. No matter the situation, no matter how disheveled or broken, JJ Maybank always carried a beauty that was effortless and infuriating. He was a contradiction — a masterpiece painted in chaos — and you could never look at him without being reminded of how deeply, unfairly he had your heart.
You had seen him in every state imaginable: bloodied and bruised, grinning through the pain, laughing so hard he couldn’t breathe, or asleep under the stars with his face softened by peace he rarely found. Even in his worst moments, when life dragged him down to its cruelest depths, he was breathtaking. You used to joke that Aphrodite herself must have crafted him, a cruel trick of divine perfection meant to mock you.
But it wasn’t a joke now, lying here in his arms. Because you knew you’d never see the life you’d imagined with him.
You’d thought about it more times than you could admit: the way his children would carry his same irresistible charm, the way his hair might gray but his smile would never lose its boyish mischief, the way you’d both grow old together, teasing and bickering like you always did. But none of that would happen now.
You wouldn’t be there to see it.
You wouldn’t see the Pogues again, wouldn’t see John B and Sarah raising a family, wouldn’t wake up in JJ’s arms to greet the sunrise and talk about life like it was endless. All those dreams, those plans — they were dissolving, fading into the hot Moroccan sand beneath you, slipping from your grasp like water through trembling fingers.
But at least you’d die saving him.
JJ’s voice cracked, pulling you from your spiraling thoughts. “We should have stayed... I should have listened to you... I...” He repeated the words in a frantic, looping mantra, his tone raw with regret, his breath hitching as though saying it enough times could rewrite the moment. As though this were some nightmare he could will himself to wake from.
And maybe it would have been a dream — a bad one — if they’d all just listened to you. If they hadn’t chased after the crown, if they’d let greed and desperation go. Maybe you’d be lying in the chateau right now, the sunlight warming your skin, talking about tomorrow with hope instead of fear.
But life didn’t work like that.
You knew this outcome was inevitable. You’d known something was off, a shadow lurking on the edge of this adventure. You’d felt it in your bones. But even so, you couldn’t walk away. You couldn’t leave your family behind.
Because they wouldn’t have made it without you.
You were the glue that held them together, the one who kept the chaos from consuming them all. You cooked when they forgot to eat, bandaged wounds when they refused to stop, made plans when they leapt without looking. You were the mother, the voice of reason, the protector. You carried their burdens as if they were your own, no matter how heavy they became.
And you’d never leave them in trouble. Even if it meant leaving the world behind.
“Hey, hey, it’s not your fault,” you murmured, your voice trembling but steady enough to cut through his despair. With a shaky hand, you wiped the tears from his face, your fingers brushing against the salt trails on his skin. “I couldn’t leave you. I couldn’t... leave you alone.”
“But that’s what you’re doing now!” JJ cried, his voice cracking like a child’s. A loud, broken sob tore from his lips as he pulled you closer, holding you as if sheer force could tether you to him. The raw pain in his eyes shattered you more than the knife ever could. “You’re leaving me! It should’ve been me! Why— why did you take it all on yourself?”
“JJ...” you whispered, your fingers threading weakly through his hair, softer than you’d ever imagined. The sunlight kissed the golden strands, turning him into something otherworldly — a fragile angel, aching and broken. Your vision blurred, the world dissolving into a haze, but you clung to him, fighting to stay present. For him.
“I did it because you have to live,” you said softly, your voice cracking under the weight of your words. “Because you deserve to live. You deserve a happy ending.”
Your breath hitched, and a cough wracked your body, leaving a metallic tang on your lips. A thin stream of blood trickled from the corner of your mouth, but you ignored it, your focus entirely on him. On the boy you loved more than life itself.
“You deserve a happy life more than anyone, JJ,” you continued, the words fragile but unyielding. “You have to go on your adventures, see the world, make your dreams come true... I...” You paused, gathering the last fragments of your strength. “At home, under my bed, there’s a box. It has the money left from El Dorado...”
A faint, bittersweet smile touched your lips as the truth of it all washed over you like the tide. Every decision, every moment over the last few months had led to this. Saving that money, denying yourself fleeting indulgences — it had all been for this. Deep down, maybe you’d known. Maybe you’d felt it all along, the shadow of inevitability hanging over you.
From the very beginning, when the crown became a glimmering temptation, you’d sensed it. Something about it felt wrong, like a weight in your chest that wouldn’t ease. You hadn’t wanted to go — you’d begged them to stay, to stop chasing after danger and live, just live. But they wouldn’t have listened, not even to you.
And so you’d gone. Because they needed you.
The irony struck you now, sharp and bitter, and you almost laughed. All you’d wanted was a simple life — a reprieve from the constant running, the relentless searching, the near brushes with death. You’d only wanted one quiet moment to breathe.
But life had never let you stop.
“Take the money,” you whispered, your voice thin but insistent. “Leave. Start over. Find your happiness, JJ. Live... for me.”
Your fingers lingered on his cheek, memorizing the warmth of him, the boy who had been your whole world. The tears falling from his eyes pooled at the edges of your smile.
Even as the edges of the world began to fade, you clung to one truth: you would give everything for him. And you had.
“Don’t you dare do that,” JJ choked out, shaking his head as if denying the reality before him could rewrite it. His trembling hand brushed a damp strand of hair from your forehead, the tenderness in his touch breaking your heart anew. “Don’t you dare say goodbye,” he sobbed, pressing a desperate kiss to your head. His arms rocked you gently, cradling you as though the rhythm alone could anchor you to him. “We’ll do it all together, you hear me? We’ll start over. We’ll visit every corner of this damn world. We’ll grow old together... I won’t — I can’t let you leave me like this.”
You tried to answer, but your body betrayed you. It was slipping further out of your control, growing lighter, weightless, like a feather carried off by the wind. Still, you smiled — soft, faint, but filled with all the love you couldn’t put into words.
Your eyes fluttered shut, the pull of oblivion so strong, but you forced them open again. Over and over, you fought against it, clinging to the fragile thread of life. Not for yourself — for him. For the dreams you had spun together in quiet moments, the ones you had whispered into the dark when the world felt too heavy.
You thought of those dreams now, pulling them close like a lifeline.
You’d planned it all, written it down in the little diary you kept hidden away since you were a child. Its pages were filled with messy sketches of hearts and scrawled dreams, and in so many of them was his name — your best friend, your everything. Back then, you were too shy to confess your feelings, too scared of what losing him might mean. But that little girl, the one who poured her heart onto those pages, would be over the moon now. She’d never believe JJ Maybank had become hers.
How many times had you imagined the life you’d build together? Leaving Kildare behind, hand in hand, to find new adventures in the wide, open world. Finding that perfect spot by the sea — a place that felt like home. Slowly, brick by brick, you’d build a new life together, one where all the scars and broken pieces of your pasts didn’t matter anymore.
You could almost see it. The day JJ would propose.
He’d plan it for weeks, determined to make it perfect, pouring over every cliché from the romantic comedies you adored. He’d rehearse speeches in secret, dragging John B and Pope into his schemes, pestering them to help him nail every detail. And yet, on the day itself, when he finally saw you, everything he’d practiced would vanish.
He’d forget the rehearsed words, the plans, everything but you.
JJ would drop to one knee, his hands shaking as he pulled out a small, worn ring — the one he’d kept hidden for years, a precious piece of his mother’s legacy. He’d hold it out to you, his voice cracking as he whispered the only words that mattered: Be mine. Forever.
And you would be. You’d take his hand, slip on that ring, and promise him everything. You’d become the happiest girl in the world, every piece of your soul woven into his.
Forever.
But now, forever felt impossibly far away.
“I love you, JJ Maybank,” you whispered, the words barely audible but carrying the weight of a lifetime. Your gaze lingered on his sea-blue eyes, anchoring yourself in their depth, memorizing every detail — the way they shimmered like sunlight on water, the way they always felt like home.
“You’ve become my dream.”
The words left your lips like a prayer, soft and eternal. Your eyelids fluttered, heavy with the pull of exhaustion, and slowly, they closed. Darkness crept in, warm and quiet, wrapping around you like JJ’s arms — steady, protective, safe. If this was death, it wasn’t cruel. It was peace. And if this was how it felt to go, you thought, then you would gladly endure it a thousand times over just to feel him near.
But as the silence deepened and the void seemed to pull you further away, a voice rose above it — a sound so strong, so certain, it cut through the emptiness like a lifeline.
“I won’t leave you. Never.”
His voice was raw, desperate, but unshakably firm, as if willing the universe to bend to his promise.
And you believed him.
You fell, your body surrendering to the weightlessness, but the thought of him grounded you. You held on to his words, letting them guide you like a beacon through the dark.
Even as the void swallowed you whole, there was a certainty buried deep within your heart.
When you opened your eyes again, you knew he would be there.
thankx for reading <3
I love one direction. I love jj maybank. and I love this fic. but I don't like killing characters. I can't write about death after Liam and JJ's death, it's very hard for me, so I decided to leave the ending kinda open? for me, the reader is still alive, but if you like dramatic endings, then you can end the story on the death of the reader.
and as usual, you can always share your opinion in comments or my inbox :3

My husband moved us together from our beautiful Moroccan countryside life to this inhospitable and lonely American metropolis to pursue his lifelong dream. The accumulating wealth left me with lonelier times and less moment with him as his job drowned him while he decided to boarded the twins to this private boarding school where most of his friends placed their kids into. The isolation he confined me into when we started here caused me to be practically friendless and it's not like my English is that fluent. I also hated how people perceived me due to my look and background, so I eventually "resigned" from the peering public eye and never really went out unless it's very necessary. So, can you blame me when I tapped into my ancestral roots and decided to forge my own happiness?
Hany here is just the latest addition of my growing collection, and I love how his cockiness is just so infectious everytime I phased my consciousness into him, I simply felt like I have no more worries in the world
It's always a delight for me to just be out there, no shirt on and having the ability to move my muscles the way men can do all of the amazing tricks that their bodies can pull off.
Hany, my cocky bachelor neighbor, is quite a tricky one to capture as he's mostly alert for most of the time. But when he knocked on my door one night with my husband nowhere in sight, clearly drunk from the way he slurred his words and the intense smell of alcohol mixed with his musk, I took that opportunity. Instead of taking him back to his unit, I phased out from my body and went straight to met his soul. The weakened and half-conscious state of the soul allowed me to simply moved him aside and planted my control over his physique. Then, from there, I use Hany's body to give my frozen body a kiss as a way to build a "connecting bridge" as my soul transferred back to my body but at the same time, our body is connected. Ever since that moment, I can simply drowse off or focused myself a bit to be able to feel what Hany is feeling or even better, controlling his body right away to do what I want him to do
It wasn't this powerful and complex at first. My earliest subject was this drained construction worker that I saw everyday working on the site a couple building from mine. I've tried to phase out a couple times before but none of it worked because I realized that the soul and/or the body managed to resist me. So, looking at the hard-working men in hard hat and hi-viz, I decided to took a leap of faith and phased out from my body. Why I selected the body in particular? For starter, I saw him smoking weed before, and not just once, so I deduced that he probably smoked his fair share of weed for the day and the cigarette in his mouth meant that he's in a sort of relaxed state.
Other reason? Well, I heard him once in the bodega talking about his "fucked sleeping schedule" and the lack of "sex from the noisy demanding bitch" of a girlfriend who worked the same graveyard shift with him as of now, so I knew he must be stressed and mentally drained. Sounds like an easy target, and he was that easy, I slipped in and out of him for 1 month straight with no resistant
So many firsts happened when I was inside Dezz. My first (I lost count on how many times after just 2 weeks) orgasm as a man, my first sex with a girl, my first deadlift, my first fight, just endless adventure. I also learned about building the connection during my time inside Dezz. It's simply out of pure instinct and in a the spirit of experimentation, but I tried to transfer back in a more discreet and less exhaustive manner so I booked this motel and left the door unlocked, phased into Dezz and then drove his truck to the said motel as I basically made out with myself. When our lips connected and even before Dezz cock slipped into me, I found myself staring at Dezz scruffy face right before he passed out. I ran away from that motel room, sensing something is different from that kiss, but I brushed it off and let Dezz sorted himself out back to whatever routine he's having. Later that evening, around an hour or so before the time Dezz started his shift and as I tried to get some sleep, somehow I felt this pulsating sensation from my clitoris and that's when my vision started to get glitchy for the first time. One second I saw my room and then the following second, a slender statuesque figure sat on top of a scruffy happy trail I knew belonged to Dezz. As he nutted inside his girl, I was leaking from the "ghostly" experience, but that led me to the groundbreaking "connection" that I always utilized ever since
Dezz is my first. Hany is my latest. But those two just cannot compete with Chris the Beast.....
Oh that one is the craziest, and maybe I'll share more about my time inside of Steve and the others when I have more time. My husband is arriving soon and I need to phase out from Hany now if I wanna be safe and look more presentable to welcome my husband.

El Alami residence, Rabat, Morocco
With her ankles crossed delicately underneath her, Madeleine El Alami pulled out her cellular to check the status of the Uber driver. It was still incredibly early in the morning in Morocco, and time was of the essence. Her flight was scheduled to leave in ninety minutes from Rabat – Sale International airport and nothing and/or no one was going to halt her journey. Not even her husband.
Peeking out from between the fence columns outside her home, she could see the city coming alive as the sun's first rays illuminated the horizon. The people who had been hushed moments before, now filled the streets, greeting each other and heading off to start their day. It was a side of life Madeleine had never experienced before, a stark contrast to the opulence and splendor of her former life at the Cordonian palace. It was a reminder of the sacrifices she had made to follow her heart to be with her lover, Eduardo.
Now five months pregnant, the former queen, now the wife to the Moroccan diplomat, was leaving this world behind. While her husband slept, Madeleine, along with two hand servants were waiting for the Uber vehicle to roll to a stop at the estate’s front entrance. Her suitcases were hefted on board, as she sat down in the rear seat and buckled herself in. The driver shut the door and the car slowly rolled away, the servants went back inro the estate.
Her parents' disappointment and dismay had only grown when she told them about her unborn baby on their last visit. Her father coaxed her to pack up and return to his duchy in Karlington, England and start over. Her mother wanted her to move back home to Krona, Cordonia. As usual her parents were worlds apart when it came to their only daughter and her well-being, but they were united against Eduardo.
However, she was done with being controlled by Eduardo. Done with her father's demands and her mother's nagging. This time, she was going to do what she wanted to do. And what she wanted to do was to spend the rest of her pregnancy alone.
As she Uber drove to the airport, Madeleine left her husband, forever closing that chapter, watching the world go by; but not seeing anything. Her mind turned to the letter she had left for her husband. She had no regrets for her actions but hoped her words would provide solace for him.
She felt nothing. No sadness. No loss.
She had already mourned her former life and the loss of her title as queen. In its place was a new sense of freedom. And with that new sense of freedom came the hope for a new life, with the baby growing inside her.
Nevrakis Lodge, Lythikos, Cordonia
"Are you excited to see Uncle Maxwell and Aunt Savannah today, William?" Liam spoke as he was getting his little prince ready for the day. William giggled. "Yeah!"
"And you get to ride in a carriage! You have never ridden in one before, have you?" Liam smiled as his son's excitement grew. "YES! Horsies!" the little boy replied enthusiastically, his eyes wide with excitement. Liam chuckled. "Let's go get some breakfast and then we can go and wait for Uncle Max.”
"Okay, daddy!" William beamed; his excitement shined brightly from his big blue eyes.
As they entered the hallway, they heard a familiar voice call out, "William! Look at how big you are!"
"Unca Max!" William cried out, running towards his favorite uncle.
Maxwell scooped the little boy up in a bear hug, smiling widely. "We're going to have so much fun today, little man!"
"Where's Bartie?" William was concerned, his eyes searching for his newfound best friend.
"I'm over here," Bartie replied, popping out from behind his mother. "I wanna play with the horses, too. Can we, Mommy? Pleeease?"
Savannah gave her son a loving smile. "Well as long as the two of you eat your breakfast first." William bounded over to his little friend. "YAY!" The boys both cheered. Liam strolled over, "Savannah, hello. You look well this morning," Liam kissed her cheek.
"As do you, your majesty," she replied with a curtsy, bowing her head. “Liam, I am so happy and excited for you and Riley.”
"Thank you, Savannah."
Liam clapped Maxwell on the shoulder. "It is good to see you both, too, Lord Beaumont, Duke Ramsford."
“Your majesty.” Bertrand bowed and smiled, then stepped back to join his wife.
"Good to see you too, Li." Maxwell grinned at his childhood friend, as the men watched the boys follow Savannah as she grasped their hands.
Liam shook his head, a grin on his face. "Those two are inseparable. It's a good thing Bertrand has gotten over his fear of children."
Maxwell laughed. "Bertrand loves kids, he just has to be the most uptight person on the planet."
Liam chuckled. "I suppose that's true."
"Hey Max, are you ready?" called out Savannah from down the hall.
"Ready to eat always, Savvie ... as I"ll ever be," Maxwell replied, turning to Liam. "So, what's the plan for today?"
Liam gave a mischievous smile. "Well, I thought you could spend the day with William and Bartie, giving Riley and I a chance to have some alone time."
Maxwell grinned. "Hah ... sounds like fun," he winked. "You're going to owe me, though."
Liam rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah. Whatever you want."
Maxwell chuckled. "Alright, let's get this show on the road. The kids and my stomach are waiting."
Liam turned back to adjust his tie and reached for his suit jacket which was draped over a wing chair. He walked to the foyer to meet with Riley and Olivia, Bastien following discreetly behind him.
"You're dismissed, Damien," Liam said. "I appreciate your vigilance.
“Of course," Damien bowed and took his leave, joining the other members of the Royal Guard in the hallway. As he closed the door, his eyes wandered across the hallway, where he watched Olivia wrapping William in a hug before turning toward the foyer and the waiting limo outside.
Damien had been captivated by Olivia from the moment they were introduced. As he watched her wrap the little crown prince in a hug, his mind wandered.
He could not help but admire her grace and elegance, the way her fiery hair shone underneath the chandelier or when her eyes sparkled when she laughed.
Damien knew he could never have her, but the thought of being able to spend time with her, to make her laugh and see her smile, was enough to fuel his dreams.
He wondered what it would be like to hold her in his arms, to kiss her soft lips and feel her body pressed against his.
But that was all it could ever be, a fantasy, a dream.
‘What would a Duchess ever see in a guardsman? Olivia is a rare beauty,’ Damien mused. ‘She's not like any other noble, and she doesn't seem to care about the status or title.’
His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the door opening, and he straightened up, adjusting his uniform.
As Damien thoughts went back to his post, his eyes drifted back to Olivia, and he could not help but wonder if there was a chance, however small, that his dreams could become a reality.

“Olivia, why are you being so secretive?” Riley inquired again, after spending the morning shopping for clothes and accessories in the city center, the limousine rolled to a stop at the Nevrakis lodge entrance.
Bastien opened the limousine door as Olivia stepped out. Glancing back to Riley, she smirked, “You are one lucky lady”. Riley’s eyebrow lifted in question. “You, my dear have a final challenge to endure."
Riley sat and blinked as she took in her words. After reaching for her bags Riley turned her attention to exit the limo after Olivia, when she heard a deep baritone voice, "...Hi."
Riley looked up to see a six-foot, 4-inch-tall familiar man looking at her with a huge smile. Dressed in a crisp, sleek suit overtopped by an Armani topcoat
"Liam? ...What are you doing here?" Riley’s eyes went wide as she looked up at her lover.
"...And dressed like that?”
“Love, I wouldn't dream of being underdressed for your final challenge." Liam smirked and then chuckled softly watching Riley’s look of disbelief.
"So, you're here for the challenge too?"
"You bet. I've been waiting for this moment since you came back to Cordonia."
"Liam, what is going on?"
“This is our final destination. According to Olivia, I am the challenge.”
"And that would be?"
Liam smiled wide, not giving out any clues.
"Oh my, this isn't a game show, right?"
"Not to worry, love. All I know is that Olivia has prepared something for us and it's a surprise."
"Okay. So, what is this surprise? Please tell me."
"Oh, I wouldn't want to spoil the fun."
"Liam, I don't like surprises."
"Love, I know ...I can see that. But, I think you will like this one. This is our last day in Lythikos; I've already been briefed and we're going to have a blast."
Olivia’s watched their exchange and added, “the last thing you need to get back into fighting form is to reconnect with what you are fighting for.
...And you have always been driven by your love for Liam; for your family.”
Liam slid his arm around Riley’s waist pulling her close to him. “Which was an unusually sentimental thing to hear Olivia say.”
Olivia sighed, “a bit saccharine for my tastes, but to each their own. I always thought love was a weakness, but you seem to actually draw strength from each other.”
Riley’s scrunched her eyebrows, “Just to be clear, my last challenge is to spend time with King Liam Rys?”
“The whole day, actually. Olivia is taking us into town.”
“Everyone else will help me take care of William while you’re away.” Olivia added.
“Sweet! Free daycare! I’m really warming up to Lythikos hospitality.”
“It’s a circumstantial offer. Cherish it while it lasts.”
Liam kissed Riley’s cheek, “believe me, we plan to.”
“But Olivia, you’re supposed to be looking into our Madeleine problem....and the press.”
“Damien and I will dhave everything covered; I promise.
And you have your marching orders. Reconnect and start fresh, that you may crush your enemies on the morrow.”
Liam grinned, “Ah, Romantic.” Placing his hand on the small of her back, Liam steered Riley back into the lodge to change into the evening wear that she bought in town.
Standing at the entrance of the dining room, along with the other guards, Damien Nazario stood vigilantly watching the crown prince. His eyes were sharp and ever watchful. As a trained ex-secret service agent and bodyguard, he knew when people were watching.
His attention was suddenly drawn to a smattering of voices outside in the main hall, and a moment later, Duchess Olivia Nevrakis entered the dining room, and Damien felt his breath catch.
She was stunning. She had been stunning the night before, but he had not noticed her beauty fully. This morning, the Duchess wore a form fitting black and grey suit. Her vibrant red hair was done up in a chignon. Damien was entranced by her, but he knew better than to stare. He tore his eyes away from her and glanced down at the floor, taking in the shiny black patent leather of her boots. He swallowed, wondering how they would feel around his neck. He shook his head, trying to clear the image from his mind. He looked up, and his eyes once again caught sight of her, this time her stormy blue green eyes were looking straight into his.
She arched an eyebrow and tilted her head as she regarded him. Damien's cheeks warmed.
"Good morning," a voice sounded beside him.
"Morning," he mumbled, glancing back to where the Duchess had been, only to find her gone.
Drake chuckled. "See something you like?”
***
Inside the limo, Liam and Riley arrived outside an upscale restaurant in the city center.
Bastien opened rhe passenger door and Liam stepped out, holding out his hand for Riley. She took it and climbed out of the limo. She gasped when she looked at the building in front of her. "This is beautiful."
"You are beautiful," Liam smiled. "And tonight, you will be dining on the best seafood this side of Paris."
"That's a high bar to live up to." Riley's eyebrows raised.
Liam chuckled. "It can certainly get the job done."
They were escorted inside the restaurant, with Liam's hand on the small of her back as they were led to a secluded table overlooking the city center.
Liam pulled out Riley's chair and she sat down, exposing her long tanned leg through the side slit of her cocktail dress. He sat down and his eyes drank in the sight of her, his gaze lingering on her legs.
Riley blushed.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to stare." Liam looked down.
Riley reached across the table and took his hand in hers. "Look all you want, Your Majesty."
Liam lifted his head and locked eyes with her, his blue orbs sparkling. "I have wanted to do this since the night of the Coronation Ball. You were breathtaking that night. I wanted to sweep you into my arms and dance the night away with you. But there was always someone or something getting in the way."
Riley grasped Liam's hands in hers ...
"Mmm, this whole place smells like fresh bread. I want to eat that smell."
"I will order the kitchen to prepare you a fresh loaf immediately." Liam grinned.
Riley threw her head back and laughed.
"Please do. After Olivia's challenges, I feel like I could devour this entire restaurant."
"I love the sound of your laugh," Liam whispered.
Riley's heart skipped a beat.
Liam's grin widened. "I hope we have many more dates just like this. After Olivia's unique brand of 'help', we've definitely earned this day."
Riley giggled. "That was the nicest way of saying Olivia was a royal pain in the ass."
Liam let out a chuckle. "That was very diplomatic of me, thank you."
Liam smiled as a steaming breadbasket and the entrees were set down on the table. The waiter tops off Riley's red wine and sets a glass of scotch down for Liam.
Riley picked up her glass and held it aloft. "A toast. To us."
"To us," he echoed, clinking his glass against hers.
As Riley takes a sip, the waiter places a small dish in front of her. Inside is a thick chocolate sauce in the shape of a heart, the word "love" written in script, and two berries.
Riley looked from the dish to Liam, her lips curled into a mischievous smile. "Chocolate covered strawberries? Are you trying to seduce me, Liam?"
"That depends," Liam replied, a matching grin forming on his face.
"On what?" Riley asked.
"Whether or not it's working," he whispered.
Riley's eyes met his and they burned with desire.
"I'll take that as a yes." His grin widened and he leaned across the table. Liam took Riley's hand in his, his fingers tracing slow circles on the back of her hand. "You are beautiful. I wish we could have been together from the start."
Riley's lips formed a soft smile. "So do I, Liam. I don't want this night to end."
"It doesn't have to." Liam reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys, laying them on the table between them.
"Up for a little trip?”
Riley's eyes widened. "Are you suggesting we run away together?"
"One of the best kept secrets in Lythikos is a glass igloo tucked away in the mountains. The perfect view of the stars, the perfect view of the valley."
Riley bit her lip and looked up at him from under her lashes. "I think I might have found the perfect view right here."
"It's also very secluded. Not another soul for miles." Liam winked.
Demurely smiling, Riley added, "I can think of a few ways to take advantage of that."
"So can I ... if you're up for the trip."
Riley picked up the keys, the smile on her face growing wider. "Let's skip the dinner and jump right to the dessert."
"Then we should leave right now," he suggested, his eyes never leaving hers. After a few calls, Liam stands and offers his arm to Riley.
Riley slipped her arm through his and together they headed out of the restaurant, and back into the waiting limo.
The driver was already waiting and pulled the car into the traffic. They passed through the city streets and up into the mountains. It was dark when the car finally pulled up in front of a domed glass structure. Stepping inside, the entire frozen mountainside stretched out around on all sides, a beautiful aurora shined through the ceiling panels.
"Oh Liam, this place is unreal ... it's all the natural wonder of camping with the comfort of a five star hotel."
"And a lot more privacy." Liam added.
"After the past few weeks, I really wanted to get you away and alone," Liam softly spoke, his arms slipping around Riley's waist.
She placed her hands over his. "Me, too. I don't want this day to end."
"I have one more surprise for you."
Riley smiled. "Is that why you brought me here? For a surprise?"
"No. I brought you here because I want to be alone with you." He kissed her cheek, his lips trailing along her jawline and down her neck.
Riley's eyelids fluttered and she tilted her head back. "Mmm, is that so?"
Liam nuzzled his nose against the spot behind her ear. "I wanted to do this all evening."
"What's stopping you now?"
He grinned. "Nothing."
Liam pressed his lips to hers. She melted into him and deepened the kiss. His tongue sought hers and they moved together in unison. He cupped her ass and pulled her into him, her curves conforming to his body.
Riley's hands tangled into his hair, her fingers tugging. Liam moaned into her mouth, his desire rising. Together tumbling back onto the bed, legs tangling as they fall down onto the plush mattress.
A while later, Liam's fingers combed absently through Riley's hair as they watched the way the colors and lights swirled around, constantly changing.... It was hypnotic.
"When I look up into the sky ... I see you. I see something beautiful, brilliant, untamable ... a breathtaking force of nature. I know that we have been through a lot, but when you're in my arms like this ... I also know that we can find a way through it together, if you'll let me."
Riley sighed happily. "Liam..."
*I know, love, that I said I wouldn't bring it up again, but after tonight, I need to tell you that I'm so sorry for everything."
"Liam, it's okay, I know you had to do it. I know the weight of the world was on your shoulders, and you had to do what's best for your people, that's your duty. But you have to also do what's best for yourself. We all do."
Liam's grip tightened slightly around her waist. "That's what I want. You...
"Riley. I love you. And William. I can't imagine my life without you both in it."
"I love you too, Liam," she whispered. "So much..."
"Do you forgive me?" Liam asked quietly in earnest.
"Of course, I forgive you. I am so sorry that I was a coward and left without telling you about..."
"SSHHH! There is nothing to forgive you for, Riley. You were just doing what you felt you had to do. I am so sorry that the court was so unfair to you. My father ..."
"Liam, please. Let's just focus on the present."
"... and the future." LIam added with a kiss...

Antónia Rodrigues was arguably one of the most intriguing and significant in portuguese History, yet she remains largely unrecognised.
She was born on the 5th of january 1572, the daughter of Leonor Dias and Simão Rodrigues, and lived in the parish of Nossa Senhora da Apresentação, in Aveiro. Simão was a deep-sea fisherman, which meant he spent most of his time away from home and due to this and because of poverty, they decided to send Antónia to Lisbon, where her married sister lived.
Once in Lisbon, Antónia began to feel “more liberated” — partly because her sister was quite neglectful and careless in her upbringing, which instilled in Antónia a haughty character “unsuitable” for her age, and always refusing to do tasks deemed “appropriate for her gender”.
Until one day, she learned that a caravel named “Nossa Senhora do Socorro” was settling sail for Mazagan with a cargo of wheat. At the time, Antónia was 15 years old, yet in the eyes of the people, she was remarkably beautiful, elegant, with long black hair, dark eyes, a tanned complexion, and full lips. So, she decided to cut her hair and wear “masculine” clothes, adopted the name “António” and enlisted for the crew of the coveted caravel. The captain immediately noted how easily António climbed the masts, without fear of falling or being disturbed by the swaying of the storms.
After his martime adventure and upon reaching Mazagan, due to the merit and good reputation, he had gained throughout his adventure, António decided to enlist as a simple soldier in the portuguese troop and the troops’ governor immediately accepted. The moroccans attempted several times to regain Mazagan from the portuguese empire, and although they were always repelled, they never gave up trying. It was in one of these attempts that António, a young soldier, with his bravery, won the decisive battle, and from then on, he was regarded as a hero.
António began to be invited by wealthy and well-known families of the time to soirées, he engaged with ladies, dancing and drinking with them, having long conversations with many of them. With that, Rodrigues, to conceal his true identity, nurtured some of these relationships and many of them ended up falling in love with him. Among these ladies. Beatriz de Menezes, the daughter of a very influential nobleman, stands out. Beatriz was so in love with António that she became seriously ill with the fear of losing her beloved, prompting her father to compel António to ask for his daughter’s hand. However, the soldier had no choice but to reveal the whole truth about himself, including the fact that she came from a very poor and humble family.
The truth is Antónia suffered no punishment, and little is known about her life after this revelation, except that she eventually married an acquaintance from the portuguese troop, and together they had a son (whose identity remains unknown), she returned to Portugal and shortly afterward became a widow. King Filipe II of Portugal and III of Spain even granted her a great proze for her bravery in crossing the boundaries imposed by society.
Antónia Rodrigues passed away in 1641.

House Of Anubis: How the OG DutchBelgium show was butchered by its English Adaptation Part 3: Appie & Jeroen
Because part 1 and 2 were well received and I recently got questions for future parts, I hereby decided to finally make part 3! This one will tackle Jeroen and Appie, known as Jerome and Alfie in the English adaptation.
First of all, let's start with the second lovable himbo of the cast and one of the primary comedic relief characters, Appie. His character is one of the most obvious cases of the English adaptation neglecting storylines from the OG as well as one you could see how different they were going to be from their OG couterpart from the get-go.
For one, because the first OG actor for Appie quit playing in Het Huis Anubis as he wanted to pursue acting school and work on his craft, they had this plotline of him changing race due to it. I knew the storyline was clearly going to be dropped when I first laid eyes on his English counterpart, but aside from that I want to point out that any main character like Nina could have stayed on the show by making her change actress. This plotline's removal is where my stance on all the changes to Fabian especially as I discussed in part 1 stemming from homophobia towards Fabian's OG actor comes from, because a plotline to keep his love interest and have her remain as the leader is right here. No, Nickelodeon wanted a male heroic lead and I can see right through the bullshit.
In regards to his OG actors, Appie's first actor was Moroccan and his second was black like Alfie and there is of course the third actor from the final movie which served as an epilogue to the series really. Where Appie got cursed and flickered between being his black self and being white, as someone who changed race twice was an ideal sacrifice to this cult so they were trying to raceswap Appie again so he could be their sacrifice. This is also the movie where Appie gets together with Amber at long last. Their relationship is so different in the OG, like it goes from a slow-burn to becoming endgame at the very last adventure and giving all the shippers their moment to rejoice.
Also, small fun fact but the first actor, Achmed Akkabi, became one of those rare teen actors who blew up in a kid's show that actually retained a succesful career as an actor. He's arguably amongst the biggest Dutch millenial actors there is as he's one of the few I can actually name that I recall seeing in recent promoted projects such as Mocro Maffia (note to foreigners: Mocro is Dutch slang, originally stems from them copying the Dutch version of the 'N' word to mean a Moroccan gangster instead as they kind of fill that role in gang as well as rapper culture over here that black people seem to do in the US).
He has never been in a love triangle with Jeroen either. Speaking off the drama the English remake invented in the OG, Jerome being a cheater is too OOC to function. Jeroen literally was a faithful boy in the OG. First, there was Mara but she left after S1. Then in her place, another girl was quickly introduced, Noa who was secretly an Egyptian princess hunted down by a cult. Jeroen loved that girl. He was ready to betray friends and foe, double cross people in what realistically should be an internationally active cult, all just to protect her. The way he fought for Noa and would do anything to keep her safe, that Jeroen being a cheater?! Get out of here! Jeroen was a bad boy, but he was faithful as fuck. Jeroen and Noa were literally the 'bad boy & good girl' trope taken to the next level, and I love the ship (though I have nothing against Maya and her ship with Jeroen. Liliana De Vries is a gorgeous woman, like the OG cast consisted out of so many attractive people I was just a mess as a kid over this show okay).
Jeroen was an icon of an iconic IP, with his catch phrases and overall snarky attitude he was deeply beloved. To this day I low-key wonder if I roast people for being incompetent so often was influenced by Jeroen calling everyone failures all the time. Like the OG was that big to definitely influence the kids swept up in the Sibuna craze and when rewatching the OG all I can say is whenever I watch this guy, 'Alright, I can understand where that trait of mine might stem from'.
Also, shout out to Sven and Achmed's chemistry. They were low-key shippable, which combined with Appie crossdressing once or twice as a joke, makes me feel like Nickelodeon invented the Willow stuff too because Appie and Jeroen were a surprisingly popular ship.
This is a video compilation of Jeroen just calling people failure

An Amber x Appie shipping video that actually contains one of Appie's crossdressing scenes (I totally forgot about him dressing up as a ballerina until I saw this video):

A Noa X Jeroen shipping video that uses a song from the OG, Ware Liefde (in English, True Love) of which the male voice actually is Jeroen's! It's one of my favorite's of the Anubis soundtrack.

Reminder to please, watch the dubbed version of the OG! You won't regret it!
