Season of Love, Part III: Valentine's Day Edition!

Morley: "Happy Valentine's Day, my love." Halfred: "Here's to five and a half years of blissful marriage... and counting!"

Morley: "I got you a little something..." Halfred: "Oh boy! Creme candies! My favorite!" Morley: "I know." *giggles*

Halfred: "Well, it just so happens I got you something too..." Morley: "Oh?"

Halfred: "Ta-da!"

Morley: "Oooh, purple! My favorite color! But wait, what is it?"

Halfred: "Remember that Squishmallow you wanted but it was really hard to find?" Morley: "You didn't..." Halfred: "I did!"

Morley: "Oh my goodness!"

Morley: "So tiny and cute!"

Morley: "I love her! Thank you, Halfie!" Halfred: "I love you..."

Morley: "I love you too..."

*smooching sounds*

Squishmallow: *looks into the camera* Resident Human: "I think maybe they need a little privacy, folks. Happy Valentine's Day, everyone!" *chuckles*

♡ Mandrakes & Chocolate ♡

Resident Human: "Today, I'm helping Halfred and Morley with a lovely, romantic couples activity... making chocolate pudding!"

Resident Human: "Because after years of marriage, their love is still going strong."

Halfred: "And because there's nothing more romantic than chocolate!" Morley: "But reduced fat and sugar free because I'm watching my rootish figure."

Resident Human: "Alright, this is super simple. All we have to do is combine the mix and the milk and whisk away."

Halfred: "Uhmmm... yuck." Morley: "Yeah, that's... not looking very romantic." Resident Human: "Patience, guys, we need to whisk it for a good two minutes and then let it set for five. That's what the box says."

Halfred: "Ooooh, it's starting to look better!"

Morley: "So creamy and yummy looking!"

Resident Human: "Now doesn't that put you in a loving mood?"

Halfred: "It sure does! Morley's my best girl."

Morley: "And you're my one true love."

Happy World Soil Day!

Halfred: "Hi, everyone! We were just re-potting our friend Edgar here."

Edgar: "Hello!" *waves*

Morley: "That's right, Halfred! Soil provides nutrients, helps hold onto water so roots can drink it up, and makes homes for microbes that can help plants grow. We want Edgar to be in the best of health."

Halfred: "And at no time is it more appropriate to mention the importance of soil than on World Soil Day!"

Morley: "Soil is teeming with life and is crucial to supporting so much of life on Earth. Did you know that there can be up to around a billion bacteria in just one teaspoon of soil?" Halfred: "Yep! And that's not to mention the fungi, protozoa, insects, worms, and other creatures that live there too, along with the roots of plants!"

Edgar: "Like mine!"

Halfred: "So let's take a moment to admire and give our most heartfelt appreciation to soil, the homes that it provides for lots of tiny creatures, and the plants it helps grow."

Morley: "It may not look like much, but it's so much more incredible than most of us realize."

Halfred: "Three cheers for soil!" Morley: "Hip, hip...!" Edgar: "Hooray!"

Morley and Halfred helped me decorate the mantle this year, and they wanted some pictures to commemorate their accomplishment. I think they did a wonderful job, don't you? Just ignore the wolf bookends, they're there all year round. Halfred says they're werewolves, and I guess at this time of year he's probably not wrong. XD

𝓗𝓪𝓹𝓹𝔂 𝓔𝓪𝓼𝓽𝓮𝓻!

Halfred and Morley colored some eggs today in honor of the season. They had pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, and red dyes, some of which resulted in interesting striping patterns from the natural composition of the eggshells. They then decided to combine some colors to see what else they could get. Yellow and green made lime, which was cool. Blue and pink produced some lovely dark blue and blurple results. But the red and blue, which they thought would produce dark purple... came out... brown? Oh well, you win some, you lose some, right? A good time was had by all, and now the best part is that we all get to eat the tasty results! =)

Halfred: “We actually have a son! His name is Tilipp!”

Morley: “Yep! He’s our pride and joy!”

Halfred: “I’m not sure about ‘shroomfolk, but mandrake roots have babies just like anyone else. We’re part plant, but we’re also magical creatures, so that’s the difference. Our babies are called ‘wee ones’ or ‘sprouts’ most often.”

Morley: “But we recognize mundane trees as our ancestors or ‘parents,’ so that’s probably what Pillomin meant.”

Halfred: “Tilipp is all grown up now. He’s studying abroad in Europe.”

Morley: “Uh-huh! We miss him, but we’re also so very proud.”

Halfred: “We had a birth announcement right here on this blog when he was born. Remember that?”

Morley: “I do! And then there was the time our friend Speck visited from Washington state and she met little Tilipp.”

Morley: “Like we said, we’re proud parents.”

Halfred: “Even if he doesn’t call as often as we’d like. But whose kid studying abroad ever does, am I right?”

Morley: *giggles*

Today, Halfred and Morley set out to make a tasty dessert that’s actually halfway good for you too. No-butter apple lemon cake! It combines a simple cake recipe with apples, lemon juice, and lemon zest to create a tangy, fruity treat. There were some shenanigans going on, particularly when Morley wiped some flour on Halfred’s nose (or at least where his nose should be), but other than that, it was a very successful venture. The cake was delicious! This isn’t the first time these rootling lovers have baked something amazing. Maybe these two should go into business together! =)

Our resident loveroots, Halfred and Morley, decided to do a little holiday baking today. According to Morley, this is an “I love you BERRY much” cake, but Halfred called it an “I’d be BLUE without you” cake. Both are true! Nothing is sweeter than baking with your sweetheart on Valentine’s Day. But whether you are loving a significant other, family, or just yourself today, the most important thing is positive vibes. Love is all you need! ❤️

Mudpie, Halfred, Morley, and the rest of The Roots & ‘Shrooms Gang want to wish you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving! What are you thankful for this year? Halfred is thankful for friends, Morley for love, and Mudpie... well, he said sweets until his cousin prodded him a bit for a deeper answer. Then he said family.

Halfred and Morley tackled this large cubby shelf today and set up a purple and green witchy scene. Morley of course loves purple, and it goes so well with green witch’s brew. I think they did a great job, don’t you? Never underestimate the ability of a married couple to coordinate their decorating together! =)

The Roots & 'Shrooms Gang Summer Party, Day 1!

The Saturday group of party goers have assembled! Masters of ceremonies Master Marshmallow and Cousin Halfred are making sure everything goes off without a hitch, Rocko's in charge of the entertainment, and Mudpie is the bartender, as usual. In attendance are Kizzle and Murray with Lil' Bit, Morley with Halfred of course, Mog, Mabel, Lilliana, Strawberry Gem, and cousins Shady and Bambo. It's a hot one today, but the scent of pineapples, oranges, and mangoes are in the air and coconutty drinks are flowing. What a great way to celebrate Summer! Now if Mudpie would only stop sampling as many drinks as he pours for his friends... everything will go nice and smoothly. =)

A Root-Sized Thank You

Halfred: "Today is International Thank You Day. On behalf of myself, my cousin Mudpie, my wife Morley, and all the members of the Roots & 'Shrooms Gang, I'd like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our followers and fans."

Halfred: "We can't tell you enough how happy it makes us to see you laughing and smiling at our wholesome antics each day. It fills us with joy to know that we make you happy."

Halfred: "So from us to you.... thank you. Really. Bunches and oodles." *smiles*

Resident Human: "Well said, little buddy." *shakes his little arm nub* Halfred: "Aw, thanks!"

Morley thinks these are, quite possibly, the most adorable flowers in the entire yard... the mini purple irises! They look exactly like full-sized irises, just all on a cute, tiny scale. Rootling-sized, as Morley likes to say. Halfred can keep his big yellow irises, she says, because these teeny purple ones are perfect for her. =)

Morley: "The black-eyed susans really came in nicely this Summer."

Morley: "But I suppose they'll be done soon, and Summer will fade into Fall." *sigh*

Stormy: "Hey there, Miss Morley!" Morley: "Oh, hello Stormy."

Stormy: "Something the matter?" Morley: "Hmm? Oh, no. I'm just more of a Summer mandrake, so I'm sorry to see the Summer waning, that's all. Except for pumpkins. love pumpkins. I really like yours, by the way!"

Stormy: "I know!" Morley: "Oh?" Stormy: "Your husband Halfred told me. That's actually why I'm here."

Morley: "What do you mean?" Stormy: "Well... he told me how much you like pumpkins, and that you thought mine was really cool, and so... I made you a little something."

Morley: "You... you did?" Stormy: "Yep! Hold on a second..." *turns around to get it* "Here you go!"

Morley: *gasp* "Oh my gosh, is that a little pumpkin hat?!" Stormy: "It sure is! It's for your bulb. I hope you don't mind, Halfred gave me its measurements so I could make the hat nice and comfy. I've taken up crocheting!"

Morley: "It's adorable, Stormy!" Stormy: "Here lemme help you put it on... There you go!"

Morley: "I love it! Thank you so much!"

Stormy: "You're welcome! Now you can get excited about Fall!"

Morley: "I sure can!"
