When I found out that Halbrand is Sauron, I started ship haladriel even more and I'm glad that everything turned out that way because if Halbrand was still just a dude, I probably would have let go them, but the fact that he is a super villain makes ship a thousand times hotter.

*face palm* I didn't even ship them when he was just Halbrand. I could see the romantic undertones but they made my eyes roll morethan anything else, because after Arwen/Aragorn, Bronwyn/Arondir, Luthien/Beren, Tauriel/Kili... I didn't think that there was a need for another immortal/mortal romance, especially an Elf/human one.

"Fun fact", you're probably going to judge me for that, but I started finding Halbrand hot only when I became sure he was Sauron in sheep's cloths lol I mean, I found him good looking, but it bothered me that he took so much from Aragorn in terms of look and backstory, it was lazy storytelling for me.

But the moment I was certain he was Sauron? Oh boy, my opinion of him changed drastically.

Forone thing, he does feel a little guilty if her trauma happened whilein Hueco Mundo, or after she met him. Rather than waste time feelingtoo bad about it, though, he focuses any energy he doesn’t alreadyuse to serve his king into taking care of his S/O. He doesn’t knowwhat might be best for a human in this situation, so he starts withthings he thinks he might appreciate if he were in her position —lots of attention and affection, bringing things she likes, and beingwith her as often as possible. It’s okay that she can’t speakright now. First of all, he can do enough talking for both of them,and second, there are other ways to communicate. Whetherthis happened before or after they met, whether she’s beenvoiceless since he’s known her or if this is new, he’s angry anddisappointed that he couldn’t keep it from happening. Protectinghis S/O is just one more thing he’s useless at. He’s upsetenough to tell her mean things like “Wouldyou stop being so silly and just speak?”and “Idon’t know why it’s so hard for you to just talk to me.”It comes off as insanely insensitive, and probably even hurtful as ifhe’s trying to downplay her trauma, act as though it’s no bigdeal, make her feel guilty for being unable to speak. After sometime, it becomes clear that even though that’s the result, it comesfrom a place of intense fear. Something happened to her, somethingbad enough to take away her willingness to talk despite the fact thatshe’s still physically capable of it. That’s terrifying.It scares him. Over time he learns to read her without words, knowingwhat she might want or need, and reacts accordingly�� huffing if shegets overly grateful, though. Sometimes at night, when he clings toher, he’ll murmur that he’s sorry for being such a jerk before.

Hetries very, very hard not to dwell on what happened, no matterwhether it was before or after they met. What is he going to do bythinking about it? That isn’t going to change what happened andit’s not going to bring her voice back. When he does think aboutit, about how much pain she went through, thekind of thing that’s maybe a fraction of the trauma Hollows gothrough,all he gets in response is the feeling of his throat tightening. Shedeserves so much better than that. He’s angry that things lined upin a way that allowed this to happen to her. It’s important,though, that he keeps a lid on those feelings so he doesn’tfrighten her with their intensity. Instead, he does his best to becalm around her, to not get frustrated, even though it’s difficult.He pours every ounce of his existence into being softfor her; a barely perceptible smile, a subtle squeeze of her fingersthat he hopes is reassuring, a hand carding through her hair. Everymoment he can, he studies her, so that he might be able to learn howto understand what she needs.

Hetries to cover it up acting like it doesn’t matter in theslightest, but just thinking about whatever she’s been through…it makes him angry. Angrier than he’s ever been, he thinks…angrier than he even knows how to express. More than anything hewishes he could hunt down whoever, whatever,affected her so badly and just make them cease to exist. Much as hethinks he’s hiding his true feelings, he doesn’t have thecapacity to be really believable about it, and as a result, his S/Ocan definitely tell what he’s feeling. She knows he’s angry, andshe is too, and if she can convince him of this, he might accept thatsometimes all they can do is be angry together. It’s easy for himto get distressed about communication, because he’s not greatat it in the first place, and this makes it harder, so he’s proneto minor blowups about being unable to figure out what she wants. Afew rude things will probably slip out, things that he doesn’tactually mean that he was just too late to stop. Forget swallowinghis pride —he’ll choke it the fuck down and ask Szayel to help him out, evenknowing he’ll have to put up with that smug look on his brother’sface. Being able to do something for his S/O is, strangely, worth itto him.

And while she's using her expositor status to try to make bren listen jester is... jestering which is fine when that means she's teaching cad bad words and painting loudly on the wall but then she goes quiet and when beau looks around? No jester. No lucien either. Fuck.

Cad is screaming for fun and bren is looking out the window with a very scary look in his eyes and veth has literally just been crying but she looks old enough to help and so does fjord so beau picks up the still screaming and occasionally laughing caduceus (covered in paint) and brings him over to where fjord is trying to comfort Veth so they can tend him while she deals with caleb/bren. Pulling all of her expositor clout and stature together she marches over to the boy "I am expositor beauregard of the cobalt soul. We were allied for an important mission and you were affected by a spell that made you younger. You and our other allies." Eventually she finds the tieflings huddled together under the tree on the tower garden, the wicked giggling from jester and the intensity from mollymauk/ lucien as they hissed quietly at each other in infernal was enough to know that some plotting was happening...

The next 24 hours are a fucking nightmare.

The boy bren is.... frightening to say the least. His eyes are blank or filled with hatred and ambition with no in between and his voice is smooth in a way caleb's never was, robotic and brittle under the charm though.

Jester is.... she makes beau sad. When beau brings her in with lucien she confesses that it was her first time outside. When beau tells her that everyone in the house is her friend she starts crying and doesn't let go of beau for over an hour

Yasha is sad too. So young to have those scars and that stoicism...

Eventually beau talks to Veth and fjord for morethan babysitting orders. Veth doesn't look down at herself when she can help it and she doesn't speak when she can avoid it and fjord, while shy and only a young adolescent, takes the lead with cad "I always help with the little ones" is his only answer when beau asked why. When she asked why he wasn't worried about where he was (something everyone else had expressed) he just shrugged and said "it's warmer here... and there's food..." with another shrug. Lucien is a lot. He's... dark and subtle but just as charming as molly and jester was enamored... when she over heard the two discussing necromancy in ernest and as a plan she decided to keep them separate if this didn't end soon.

Fuck she needed help... but she was human and surrounded by children and a group of other races children being herded through the capital of the krynn dynasty by a human??????? Bad and stupid idea.

One sleep later, the fucking constant darkness was becoming a problem... one sleep later as Veth and fjord helped her prepare some kind of breakfast a knock at the door signaled doom or salvation depending on who made the sound.

It was the fucking shadowhand. Asking about caleb. Fuck. Shit. Ok ok...

Before she can decide if she should send him away or ask for help the choice is decided when caduceus runs around her being chased by jester "tickle monster" lavorre and screeching with giggles (would he ever be quiet? Where did the quiet cad come from?)

Confusion crosses essiks face for a moment, followed by understanding... eventually, after a few spells, beau relaxes with the knowledge that in only a few hours things will be normal and that the spells will wear off but... can things go back to normal when you've seen your friend's childhood pain with your own eyes?

Who’s the first to wake up in the morning:

Gilgamesh. Growing up a soldier with strict discipline, he’s more than bound to wake up with or before the sun. Ardyn, the more he’s gone on healing people and using his magic, the more he realizes he gets sleepy and exhausted easily. Ardyn sleeps in more hours, unless it’s duty related.

Who’s the one to make breakfast:

If it’s only the two of them, Gilgamesh tries making it, but Ardyn always steps in to help. Gil is not bad at cooking, but he doesn’t seem to know what spices are and everything turns out a little…tasteless. Gil usually waits for Ardyn to be out of bed, because he’s aware of his plain cooking and appreciates the help.

Who’s the one to serve the other breakfast in bed:

50/50. Both work a bit too hard, and the other values it very dearly. Sometimes, Ardyn overworks a bit and abuses a bit of his magic for healing purposes, which drains him and wears him out to the point he can sleep for sixteen hours straight. Whenever this happens, Gilgamesh tends to feel awful for him (the poor thing works too hard, he’s going to kill himself at this pace), so he goes to prepare breakfast as delicious as he can manage. Sometimes he over uses the spices, but Ardyn won’t tell him; he values and treasures the intention, and food had never tasted so good.

Sometimes, Gil results harmed due to his duty as the General (and as not-official personal guard for Ardyn), or he overworks andends up physically wrecked or injured. Either because Gil is injured and Ardyn would rather he doesn’t stand from bed, or simply because he wants Gil to stay comfy and wants to spoil him, Ardyn will bring him food in bed. 

Who would suggest a quickie in the morning before work:

Ardyn. You wouldn’t believe the quantity of stamina this boy has at times, mostly in the mornings. Ardyn is a clingy playful thing that wants Gil to stay in bed, and Gil insists he gets up to go to work already. Some or other way, Ardyn 10 out of 10 times convinces Gil to stay for a quickie, usually just by saying ‘please’ and insisting a bit because “you want it too, you just don’t admit it, and let’s be honest, you’re already excited at the idea.” And the gods damn Ardyn and his stupid face and that hair that Gil is about to mess up even more, gods damn him, he’s right.

Who suggests they both ditch work to lay around all day:

It’s not a surprise it’s Ardyn again. Bouncy little thing, he’s like a puppy that can pull from Gil’s clothes just so he doesn’t leave. Sometimes, they’re both very tired, but Gil almost never wants to admit it, and it’s Ardyn who gives the first step into suggesting they take a day off. 

In the middle and late stages of relationship, when Ardyn was starting to really exhaust beyond the human measures and get ill, it wasn’t out of just wanting to ditch work to have fun, and it was Gil who dumped job and had to insist, almost beg to Ardyn to take a day off. “Just one day, just today. You can’t go on like this….just one day, it’s all I ask. The world won’t end if you skip one day, but you may if you don’t…”

Those times, it was literally staying in bed or lying somewhere, snuggled up together. In the late stages of relationship, Gil had to hold a trembling and very ill Ardyn that could barely stay awake without being in pain.

Who chooses the movies:

…oh boy. Well, let’s think it’s modern domestic AU for this to be possible lol. 

It’s Ardyn. Gil likes that Ardyn chooses because it’s not like he has much of an option anyway; Ardyn is the hyperactive kind to ask “What about this one?” and doesn’t give half a second to answer before he’s throwing that away and yelling out “NO WAIT THIS ONE”, and so on for like half an hour. He answers himself, basically, but still likes to hear opinion from Gil. Gilgamesh usually just says yes to everything, and it’s Ardyn who says no to his own options until he digs through another 30 options. Gil smiles all through his mess, and smiles again when Ardyn finally chooses. 

“This one?”

“I think that’s a wonderful choice. :)”

Who initiates kissing during the moving, thus distracting the other from the movie all together:

Ardyn. Gil sometimes can’t comprehend his playful boyfriend that gets so easily distracted, but it always earns a laugh from him, out of how strange Ardyn can be sometimes. He went 1 hour of trouble searching for the perfect movie, and then stopped watching fifteen minutes in to start kissing Gilgamesh, over and over, until climbing on top of him and asking to hold him.

“Why did you even ask to watch a movie if you’re not going to watch it?”

“Hush, hush, silence, thou mortal, and kiss me.”

A low laugh from Gil, and back to the kissing.

Who orders lunch:

Ardyn. He and Gil are perfectly capable of cooking, but Ardyn is usually to lazy. Everything takes too long to boil, you have to move a lot, and ah, gods, I just want to eat but I don’t want to cook. Not to say that Ardyn loves ordering food; if it was on him, he would do it daily, but Gil won’t let him have an unhealthy diet.

Who steals food from the other’s plate without asking:

Ardyn. Gilgamesh was never really impressed or fazed by this, Ardyn has done this since they were children. And Ardyn hasn’t really aged; he’s grown up and whatever but he’s a forever child. It’s not surprising he’s still snatching food from Gil’s plate, either because he’s just hungry and wants to try, or because he thinks it’s funny.

Ardyn usually snatches the piece of food Gil was about to grab, too.

Gil usually pretends nothing weird is happening, or, depending on the food, will sometimes roll the eyes, sigh, and snatch it back before Ardyn eats it. Sometimes it’s fallen to the ground.

“Gil! You tried stealing it and now none of us can eat it!”

“I’d rather it die than let you have it, you ugly child.”

This usually makes Ardyn climb onto the table to steal all of Gil’s plate and run away with it. 

Who curls up next to the other and falls asleep due to a full tummy:

Ardyn. Gil sometimes finds it difficult to nap, but Ardyn could do it daily. And he does; after lunch, he likes to curl up somewhere and sleep. He’s often taking Gil by the arm and not saying or requesting anything, just plain dragging him to the couch or the bed, makes him lie down, curls up at his side, and takes Gil’s arm to wrap it around him himself. Ardyn will snuggle at his side, happily sigh, and sleep for as long as he wants (or until Gil gently wakes him up).

Some weeks later, Gil himself complies and goes to bed before Ardyn can drag him, and hugs him himself, etc. Ardyn says nothing, he only curls up like the kitten he sometimes is.

Who distracts the other from trying to work at home:

Ardyn. It would be Gilgamesh, but Ardyn rarely has work he can do at home. Gil has a bit of paperwork (I mean, he’s the General of the army, he’s got stuff to check) and sometimes wants to train at home. 

When it’s paperwork, Ardyn usually takes it off his hands and says nothing. Like, nothing. Does nothing either, he just stands there and calmly says ‘No’ when Gil asks him to give it back. Ardyn himself doesn’t even know what he wants, he just. Doesn’t want Gil to work at home.

When Gil is training at home, Ardyn distracts him but not for the sake of making him leave it, he just enjoys spending time with Gil. So when he’s doing push-up, Ardyn is hugged to his neck, lying on top of him, and kissing his face where he can reach; when he’s exercising at the pull up bar, Ardyn is hugged to his back like a koala, nuzzling his face into Gil’s back; when he’s helping Gil with sit-ups, every time Gil comes up, Ardyn reaches close to peck his lips.

IT’S SO DISTRACTING, WHY ARE YOU DOING THAT, STOP.

Ardyn usually stops. Then forgets 3 minutes after stopping and continues. 

Who asks to go get ice cream like a five year old:

Why do you even ask, we all know it’s Ardyn. 

He’s almost earned heart-attacks out of our slightly paranoid general, because when they’rewalking, Ardyn has made this horribly loud gasping noise and has basically thrown himself to Gil to cling from him, so Gil goes panic protective mode like “WHAT IS IT, WHAT IS IT, WHO’S ATTACKING,WHERE ARE THEY”, but all that Ardyn says is “THERE’S ICE-CREAM THERE!!!!!!”

Gil has sometimes tried to say no because of the near heart attack and for Ardyn’s exaggerated excitement, but he gives in when Ardyn basically throws a tantrum about wanting his ice-cream.

Who takes pictures of their partner eating ice cream:

BacktomoderAU- it’s Ardyn. Gil can be a bit camera shy, but Ardyn is doing it so happily, Gil can’t help but pose and smile for him.  It’s easy to get nice photos of him smiling because Gil is not smiling at the camera, rather at the smiling man behind it, so you can imagine the joy and warmth with which he always turns out in photos.

Who makes a sexual joke about the dripping ice cream on their partner’s face:

Not so surprisingly, Ardyn. 

Gil is careful and tidy with everything, so he never gets dripping ice cream on his face or clothes. So Ardyn has to do it himself; he either takes Gil off guard and pushes his hand as Gil is taking a lick of the ice-cream, or, more frequently, Ardyn uses his own ice cream to poke him on the face, which earns the immediate reaction of Gil turning to look at him, and hence, the chance to drop the joke.

“My, how naughty! And how strange to look at you like this from this angle; usually, when you look like this, you’re on your knees.”

As good and rough as Gil can be in bed, Gil gets easily flustered out of it, so usually the comments and jokes only earn a sarcastic “Hah hah” and a roll of the eyes, or Gil pushing him by the face and telling him to shut up.

Who cooks dinner:

It’s Ardyn. Gil is still embarassed that his cooking is usually plain and not very tasty, so he’s timid to offer to cook or help, but he likes to watch Ardyn do it, or hug him a bit as he does. Gil hates to make Ardyn work even more after a tiring day of healing, so he feels a little guilty and often apologizes via quiet kisses on his shoulder while Ardyn is cooking.

Ardyn doesn’t mind. He makes sure tocuddle back when dinner is ready to let him know it’s okay.

Who cleans up the kitchen afterwards:

Gilgamesh. IT’S THE GUILT. He sends Ardyn to bed while he cleans; most times, Ardyn insists he helps too, which only earns him that Gil drops everything, scoops him off the floor, takes him to bed, and closes the door as a clear sign of “Nope, bed I said”. Ardyn finds Gil’s slight paranoia and his necessity to help rather cute, and values the effort and intention. He likes to wait in bed until Gil catches up with him, to receive him with a hug and a kiss.

Who stays up until 2 reading:

Gilgamesh. Ardyn is a sleepyhead that snuggles in bed and doesn’t wake up in the rest ofthe night, unless it’s due to some nightmare (which increase the more he goes on through his years as a healer), but Gil can sometimes stay up late reading. He’s secretly a bookworm.

The first years, it was his favorite books; in the later stages of relationship, Gil stayed up late not out of pleasure, but because he couldn’t sleep; he wanted to find an answer to end the Scourge so Ardyn didn’t have to continue doing it himself. Needless to say, Gil never found the correct book.

Who stares at their partner while their sleeping:

Gil. As said previously, Ardyn sleeps a lot where Gil does only when necessary, which leaves Gil awake most of the time Ardyn sleeps, whether it’s day or night. During the first and middle stages of relationship, Gil liked to stare because he adored the sight, adored the man, and liked to see him peaceful and handsome right next to him, trusting his life to him, sharing bed with him.

In the middle and late stages of relationship, Gil stared in concern; not only in concern of the clear uneasy rest and nightmares Ardyn was living with, but also in concern of watching him decay day after day, and not because of age.

Who kisses their partner while they sleep:

As he’s usually awake when Ardyn is not and because he stares as Ardyn sleeps, Gil. As much torubles as Ardyn can be, as playful and childish and out of control as he can get and hence as much as he makes Gilgamesh run around and save his ass, and as much as Ardyn annoys him on purpose and pulls pranks on him, Gilgamesh adores and loves him wholeheartedly. Watching him calm and still for once, and something about the quiet of the night, they make Gil remember how much he adores this man, and he can’t help but lean close to kiss his forehead.

Ardyn has done it sometimes, too, because he’s just a loving, affectionate little thing that, whenever he gets the chance to catch Gil napping or going to bed early, likes kissing his boyfriend’s head and cheeks, even rub his nose against Gil’s. Mostly for the adorable reaction of a wriggly nose, a little snort, and a hand rubbing his nose, all without waking up.

I was going to go with angst in the last one, but I already wrote too much for it and it hurt myself, hahaha.
