Malzahar/Kassadin headcanon

I was thinking about how Malzahar was immortal, but Kassadin isn't, he's human, just altered. So when the years of their time together pass... Kassadin, aged 50. Malzahar still loves them. Aged 60. Malzahar's love for them is still the same, but he's in denial that Kassadin is nearing death. Aged 70. They both don't talk about Kassadin's end, it's a sensitive topic, particularly for Malzahar. Aged 80. Malzahar has always been doing things for Kassadin, he doesn't want his lover to injure himself or any way due to their old age. Aged 90. Kassadin is lucky enough to still be alive, thanks to the partial influence of the Void inside him. Malzahar fears for his lover's life, and he turns to his clairvoyance to get the best routes for Kassadin to take. Also done in earlier years, started at aging 5o. Aged 100+ Kassadin is dead, Malzahar can't believe it. He'd do anything to bring back Kassadin, he was too attached to the man, he knows. The Void smites him and he dies, his duties as their Prophet was destroyed once he loved Kassadin.

do you have killjoy ocs?

I do! I just never talk about them because they're not really involved in any, like, "greater purpose" bullshit, so they're just a nice excuse for me to think about how life in the Zones is when you're not one of the most sought after crews in the desert. As it stands, the roster is:

The Finch Sisters, A.K.A Mary and Anne Finch (she/her for both). They're two 13 year old girls that set up shop outside Tommy Chow Mein's Zone 3 storefront every 2 weeks and sell all sorts of zines and trinkets like pins and whatnots. They somewhat thread the line between killjoy ocs and my common zone spirit ocs because they are distinctly alive, despite being stuck at 13 for about as long as they need to be 13 for, but altogether they exist primarily for lore reasons.

Acid Angel is one of the Zones' smaller DJs and xyr broadcast is a weird mix of skate punk and any song that even remotely references pre-War horror movies, or sounds like it could be, and xem doing xyr own little supernatural podcast. Both xyr appearance and personality in general is what would happen if you combined a scene kid and a jock, and xe basically lives on energy drinks at this point. Xe is also reverent of Zone spirits and often goes out to Zone 5 to start fires and keep company to wandering spirits.

Graveyard Storyteller is a vulture in his own right, though unlike most he doesn't fall exclusively under the Witch's jurisdiction, but under Destroya's as well. Whereas most vulture's duties usually are to collect and deliver masks to the mailbox or end claps they may run into, Graveyard's duties are more along the lines of writing down the names of fallen 'joys, so that they're never quite entirely forgotten, takes care of the Graffiti Bibles that just kind of tend to appear at his place or has his sibling deliver the odd few that have to be passed onto someone else. Him and strong light are on shit terms because he got his eyes slightly fucked up.

Unicorn Skin is Graveyard's twin and runs deliveries throughout the Zones as her primary occupation. She can often be seen at roller derbies as well, getting his cut of the wagers placed on his team when they win, or at the abandoned mall in outer Zone 5 just helping out however she can. He runs a lot of the more outdoors-y chores for her brother, but otherwise doesn't quite live with him as much as random killjoy outposts the likes of The Nest, the Paradise Motel, etc. Her, Graveyard and Acid sometimes go ghost hunting and while she's more skeptical about the supernatural than the latter 2, it's still nice to spend time together.

Crimson Cadet is another small Zone DJ and a permanent resident at the Nest, her broadcast being a mix of "mixtapes i stole from my ex", the latest song whatever Zone band put out this week, gossip, concert info and the traffic. They're a crash queen through and through, and not known for doing anything in moderation, though between fighting and running away, they always choose the latter unless they have no other option.

I'm still unsure about Astro Zombie, who i do want to revamp and have join the ranks of my current ocs and, as it is customary every 1.5 years apparently, i've changed my sona's name from Neon Ghost to Dead Silence

Headcanons: Odyssey

- After a lot of staring at Sona's art and model I've come to the conclusion that she has no hair, but considering her usual defining traits I doubt this was a design choice by riot. Likely more just a limitation of animation. So my headcanon is that Sona does have hair, but it only manifests when she takes the hood off. It's made of her Ora energy, flowing like the 'hair' does on her DJ skin, and glows and sparkles gold like her eyes in the Odyssey trailer.

- The golden arch Sona wears from her shoulders is to her as a crown is to a queen. It is a symbol of her status among the Templars, the jewel of their order, the one holding the fate of the universe in her hands. Like a crown, the arch is heavy and serves no real function other than decoration and obscure armour. She wears it whenever she must be formal, and takes it off when she just wants to relax.

- In the trailer, Sona has fairly regular eyes with black pupils, white sclera, and golden irises that shimmer with Ora. In her art however, her eyes are almost entirely gold, with just different shades to show the different parts. So my headcanon for this discontinuity is that the shimmering gold in Sona's irises actually spreads to cover her full eyes whenever she's channeling or manipulating her Ora. Her eyes are normal in the trailer because she's just sitting, and full gold in the art because she's wielding the Ora. I have a similar headcanon for Kayn, since his ingame model shows his right eye being light blue, while mostly everywhere else the eye is shown as bright gold. His eye makes this change whenever he 'enters battle mode' or makes use of his own Ora. These headcanons are further backed by something in Kayn's art - the man in the left corner, whom Kayn is draining the Ora from, also has full, glowing eyes. This itself could be an indication of Ora moving in or out of the body, and makes me think that Sona using her abilities actually consumes her own Ora, which just regenerates over time.

Dear mun, this probably should be a munday question but I am too impatient to wait: What do you think about the fact that probably in every iteration of Sona she is basically always the curviest woman around? Like does it affect you in your way you think about her? Or does it annoy you that sometimes it reduces her to "musician with a big ass and a massive rack" or anything along those lines? Or is it an absolute nonfactor? Maybe something you even additionally like about her?

When I started RPing as Sona, it was a very spontaneous decision I made several years ago in a roleplay chatroom that happened to have a League of Legends channel. Before then I’d never played a pre-established character. The idea seemed weird to me that people would even want or think they could RP as a character someone else had made and written out. It felt presumptuous. But being in a bad place in my life at the time and desperate to try anything new and find any kind of happiness, I made a new account and picked my main in LoL to play as: which at the time was Sona. I loved her play style in the game and I was pretty exclusively playing as her.

So initially I enjoyed Sona’s character for a lot of reasons that had nothing to do with how she looked. If anything, her look was kind of a problem. She’s basically a copy of Miku Hatsune. Even her whole thing about being mute as opposed to being a Vocaloid that sings and her theme of music is pretty obvious.

And beyond that, the whole blue-haired pigtail thing? A bit hard to take seriously!

When it comes to Sona’s figure as well, there’s totally a difference between fanon and canon. The community over the years would have to believe she’s s t a c k e d. While her chest certainly isn’t small, I would like to point out that Janna’s model actually has her chest jiggle. (Fun fact: Sona and Janna both have the same VA) Though it’s also hard to deny even glancing at, say, Muse Sona’s insane cleavage on her model. Like, woof. Those puppies are packed in there. As for her other curves, I don’t think we need to go into detail about DJ Sona and the massive booty.

But the models in-game have a variety of reasons why they’re designed the way they are. They have to be made with visibility, recognition, silhouette, and camera angle taken into account. There’s a rhyme and reason for most decisions why models look the way they do, and lately they’ve gotten a lot better and more detailed as well. Sona’s a bit mid-level by now I guess? She’s ‘newer’ than some still old champs since her VU, but graphical progress is moving very quickly in League.

I say this because there’s also the official art and splash arts to take into account. In most of Sona’s splash art I’d say she’s curvy, but not outrageously so. And she’s certainly not as thick as I tend to draw her.

On that subject: I’m a plus sized person myself. When I draw females I tend to go a little overboard on the waist and hips because that’s the kind of figure I have myself. ‘Plus size’ isn’t just one particular ‘look’ either; people gain weight in a variety of ways, and plus size can also just come down to being a very tall or broad person as well. In reality, I very much doubt Sona would qualify as plus size. She’s small and slim. While I would like it if she were a little softer and rounder, perhaps, it doesn’t make me like her any more or less as a character.

TL;DR while I do think a lot about Sona’s appearance (probably due to being an artist and drawing her a lot), it doesn’t actually effect my perception of her that much. The argument could be made that if she looked different would I have been drawn to her as much, but I honestly couldn’t say. I was drawn to her play style initially, SO...

I will say, however, that just because I’m an “enlightened” individual or whatever the fuck when it comes to how Sona looks, it’s worth noting how painfully obvious it is that many fan artists... aren’t. Especially those who draw porn. I very VERY rarely look up fanart for Sona because all too often, for SOME reason, she’s relegated to some very questionable acts. I somehow suspect it has as much to do with her being mute as it does with her body shape, but that’s just my theory. Sona being mute is likely one of the most key deciding factors in how and why people portray her the way they do aside from her boy shape, tbh. Without a voice she lacks personality on a surface level. From there it’s easy to just treat her like an object. Or even “ship” her based on her disability, which is.... yeah.

As a final thought, and from a realistic and artistic perspective, I don’t think people really realize how different people can look in different clothes. Sona’s skins tend to have her in close-fitting clothes on top and more wide gowns on the bottom (except for DJ, which leads to the whole headcanon for me that she’s hiding it all under that skirt). But if you put her in a sports bra and some baggy clothes? Suddenly she’d look a LOT different. What you wear and how you wear it can make all the difference in presentation. Makeup as well is like that.

favorite skin: DJ. I just love this skin soooo much. It has the best animation, best music, best VFX, best SFX, everything. It even has the best booty.

worst/weakest skin: Muse and Pentakill. I hate them. Muse for the splash art and in game model, hate it, the concept is good but it looks horrible. Pentakill just doesn’t match Sona’s sweet personality and the VFX don’t go with the theme of the skin at all, same for the usual SFX. So yeah. Muse and Pentakill are horrible skins on this champ.

In more ways than you think. I was in a major psychological slump for a whole goddamn year. And once I got deeper and deeper into the League of Legends fandom, I finally found the inspiration and motivation to draw and write again. It’s really thanks to League that I mustered the strength to pull myself out of that. I haven’t been in the fandom very long, but I owe my dedication to it. 

That, and it’s teaching me to learn to react and make decisions faster. I’m still learning, but I’m getting there >vo)b

15. What would you like to see in the future of the game?

Can we please, please, PLEASE have more lore stuff in-game? Make events or special missions where we can have access to secret lore stuff? And definitely reworks of champions and skins like... ANNIE MAYBE... and Muse Sona... 

I played against a Muse Sona last week, and that really threw me off because I’ve NEVER seen anyone play that skin--

I didn’t really mention the Yordles but that’s because I think most of them look SUPER weird. The fur/fuzz rendering will never not be strange to me. And Tristana’s hair looks oily. Why can Riot never truly render good hair in these things? IT’S IMPORTANT.

My heart does go out to banjo yordle though. You rock on, little man. And also doofy cone hat yordle at the beginning.

I highly appreciate Sona used Song of Celerity to help Mordekaiser shred faster at the end. Thank you for this attention to detail.

But also why is the very bottom of her dress constantly smoke? This annoys me more than it should.

Is Sona wearing some kind of shoulder armor? Huh. I guess she is. Did they change that recently? I remember reading about it with the updates. She used to just have a tattoo on her arm, but I guess it’s shoulder/arm armor with a strap going across her chest? Personally I kinda like that. She looks more “dressed” and harder to match the others.

That corset tho with never cease to make me go woof.

Another interesting thing; Sona doesn’t directly touch the Etwahl. She just kinda points her hands at it and it do things. This seems very common in portrayals of her in cinematics, though any official cinematic also only features skins rather than canon. (I don’t think canon Sona has ever been in a cinematic? Only DJ and Pentakill now. And DJ makes sense for its context.)

I’ve often thought Sona may be able to manipulate the Etwahl to such a fine degree that she wouldn’t even need to touch the strings to directly play them, but that may be looking too deep into things (and I like imposing limitations anyway since otherwise Sona’s kinda OP...)
