Fall of 85' chapter 6
TW:Fem reader, violence, drug and alcohol use, explicit language, sexual content.
Your POV
Thankfully I was somehow able to convince Steve that Eddie ‘didn’t have any weed’ but ‘promised to get me some for the party.’ So he didn’t cause too much of a stir up on our broken promise. I walked to school this morning because I needed to clear my head again. So much had happened in the last 2 days and we had literally just started the year. I was hoping to leave the drama for later in the year or to have none at all, but nope.
I arrived at school earlier than usual. I sat in the hallway and waited for my friends to arrive. Soon enough more and more students began to walk into school, tired, and already ready for Friday. My friends started to slowly pile in and we formed a small semi circle in the hall. It was me, Chrissy, Jason, Lily, Jessica, Johnny, and Dylon. We chatted about the usual stuff. Basketball , cheerleading, club meetings, and my party.
“Only a few more days now. I can’t wait!” I smiled at my friends. Suddenly I heard someone come through the school doors. I turned too look. Eddie. I rolled my eyes. He was about to start some kind of drama because I saw him staring at me. He said something about us working together at summer camp. Shit. I needed to make something up to tell my friends.
“He wishes. The only reason he says that is probably because he dreams of sacrificing me next or something crazy.” I laughed to my friends and rolled my eyes. Jason yelled back at him and he walked away.
The week went by in a flash after Tuesday. With all the back to school activities, classes, and clubs it was after school Friday already. My parents had left that morning and so Steve and I had the house entirely to ourselves. Chrissy and I met outside Hawkins High after the bell rang and Steve gave us and Robin a ride back to my place. Robin and Dustin were both coming to the party, and supposedly Dustin invited a few friends to come as well. I asked who he thought Dustin might’ve invited Steve and he just said
“I don’t know. Probably Mike and the other guys.” I just shrugged it off because the more the merrier! “Dustin isn’t coming until later by the way, he has to ‘get ready’.” Steve laughed.
As soon as we got back to our place it was time to get the house ready. Any important family heirlooms were hidden in our parents room so as to not get broken, the swimming pool heating system was turned on, and the streamers were put up. We even made a sign that read “Let’s go ‘86!’
Steve had bought us a bunch of beer, and even a keg, and as promised I got us some weed. Not from Eddie, but from another dealer a lot of the popular kids use. Chrissy had bought
her overnight bag as she was going to sleep over so I got her set up in our guest bedroom. We both got ready.
I wore a pink mini skirt, white t-shirt, and blue denim jacket. I curled my hair tightly and sprayed it with lots of Steves ‘Farah Fawcett’ hair spray so that it would hold all night. For makeup I did my classic blue eyeshadow look, and of course red lipstick. I came out of my room and met Chrissy downstairs, who was talking to Steve about some of the already happening high school drama.
“Hey guys!” I smiled. I loved this outfit.
“You look great!” Chrissy said looking at my outfit. She was wearing a white dress, and a pink ‘LA Gear’ denim jacket. We had similar tastes.
“So when is everyone going to start showing up?” Steve asked, walking in the direction of the record player.
“Well I said to be here for 8, which normally for most means 9” I laughed.
“Cool, I told Robin and Dustin the same, which for them means 8.” Steve laughed in response. Those 2 were always on time, or early. They didn't really get the ‘rules’ of being
popular. Steve put on the album “Hunting High and Low” by A-Ha, and the first song to play was “Take on Me”. We all started singing and preparing for the guests to arrive.
Eddies POV
“Of course I have heard of it dude, literally the whole school has basically been invited!” I said to Dustin after our Friday Hellfire meeting. “And for the millionth time, I am not going. Those kids your ‘friends’ with, they don't want me there.” I said putting the final bits of my DM stuff away for the next meeting.
“Come on Eddie. Steve is a really cool dude, and Y/N she's okay! Just because they are ‘popular’ doesn't make them asses.” Dustin whined.
“Would you stop bothering me if I made a quick 5 minute appearance?” I looked at him.
“YES! Yes I would, so does that mean you're coming?’ Dustin said excitedly.
“I guess so.” I said giving in.
“Great, then we should get going! The party starts at 8 so we don't wanna be late! Will, and Lucas are coming too.” Dustin smiled.
“You know when people say ‘8’ for parties they actually mean like 9, right?” I said to Dustin.
“Well that doesn't make sense.. Why would anyone say 8 when they actually mean 9? Why not just say 9..?” Dustin said, confused.
“That's just popular people.. They don't make sense.” I rolled my eyes.

Measuring Self-worth
A little bit of backstory which happened to me recently. I was at some send-off gig for this artist who was going to be signed in the UK, who deserves all the success he worked up to this point. I came with a friend who also called up another friend to tag along. Well, they say the more the merrier. I found a few people I know and said “Hi” seeing how they were doing. So far a lot of them were asking if I was already employed. My response was mostly “Well if you call sound designing for 30 seconds to 1 minute short films a job, then yes.” or “More on the freelance side”. It came to the point I greeted someone whom I wasn’t able to answer. He asked me “Are you still playing the keyboard?”. To my excuse, I was a bit tipsy and the place was loud. I told him I don’t play that much anymore. I was going to follow up a response “I’m still making music, though. I’ve been learning other instruments”. Before I could reply, he instantly snubbed me from even continuing the conversion.
I know I wasn’t supposed to be that affected. Part of me still is, to be honest. Does this mean my worth to other people is based on how I live up to their expectations? See, this is the thing I’ve been trying to get out of. My parents expect me to get good grades and graduate from college. Not to mention, they never really supported me making music. I know it’s a tough career to get into and there’s not really any income at the start. But I’m willing to make sacrifices and I’m willing to pursue it no matter what. Since when was your worth as a person based on your job? And why can’t people, whom I’ve expected support from, be patient?
I’m still figuring things out. Success doesn’t happen overnight. Being good at something doesn’t happen overnight. Just because I’m doing something else, doesn’t mean I’m giving up on that one thing I’ve been doing for years.
I just wish I found the right support group that would just tell me to keep on going. That’s the only thing I need. Even if it’s just one person. Whether it’s “Keep going” or “Don’t stop”, it really matters to me.
