Twenty Questions for Fic Writers

Thank you @yoellglia, @kingfisherprince and @shambolicchaos for tagging me even though I haven't done one of these in months, I appreciate it <3 And look at this, I am actually doing a tag game.

1. How many works do you have on AO3? 57. How did that happen.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

418,066. Some of those 57 are pretty long ;-)

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Well I won't list them all, we'll be here tomorrow. The published ones are mainly: Tatort, Good Omens, Potter, Tennis RPF, Skating RPF and a few Music RPFs. There's an awful lot of WiPs from Sherlock Holmes to Poirot to Star Trek to Oasis to Austen to various Panel Shows to Les Miz to The Hobbit and back again though. Plus WiPs for all the published fandoms. Sigh.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Alright this is going to be a trip down memory lane, seeing as I'm mostly active in very niche fandoms these days. Also, this statistic is perhaps skewed by the fact that lots of my fics are in German (a few nearly made it onto the list though!) and my RPF is locked (for registered users only).

Days in the Sun: Tops the list by a very long way. Harry Potter. A Snape/Hermione post war fic published in 2018. I'm a different writer these days but I still like lots of things about it.

To Trust in One Another: Good Omens. Aziraphale/Crowley post Season 1. I remember the response to this overwhelming me at the time, I had never gotten so many comments so quickly after posting and haven't since. This fandom is so lovely (and filled with writers!).

To those who wait, eventually: Harry Potter. Snape/McGonagall. I love this pairing and this story. And while I am very surprised that both the Potter Fics I actually published are het, I am not surprised they both feature Severus Snape.

Almost Too Kind, or: Prometo: Figure Skating RPF. Yuzu/Javi. I still like the Yuzu POV, although I think I've perhaps written more interesting skating stories, but this was obviously the most popular parinig at the time. Hence the amount of kudos I guess.

Language Barrier Sidestepped: Figure Skating RPF. Yuzu/Javi. This one surprised me because it's just a silly fluffy oneshot. But with some language nerdship in the title and the story (that part is less surprising, if you know me)

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Always, and sometimes too verbosely :D I like a good comment discussion and I have made friends that way.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Angsty endings? Me? I would if I could. Maybe some day. I guess the angstiest one is this unrequited love drabble in the Tatort Münster Fandom.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Well, most of them have pretty happy endings, I think.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not so far. Most of the comments I get are really nice. I can remember only a handful slightly weird ones over the years.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

No one is more surprised than me, but yes. In my case, it's usually part of a story and has a function in the story. But it can be pretty graphic because it's weird to me to treat sex as something to gloss over. That being said, sometimes a story decides on a fade to black. On the other end of the spectrum, I've also come pretty close to writing PwP, depending on your definition of it.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Never written one, very rarely read them.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

People have asked for permission several times and I always grant it (of course I do) but I don't think I've ever gotten a link to a finished translation (which I always ask for). I get it though, some of my stories are pretty long and I know all about the difficulties of translation :-)

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

It's not finished but I hope we can get back to it @kingfisherprince! I might not always be the easiest person to work with, but I thoroughly enjoyed it so far.

14. What’s your all time favourite ship?

I don't have one, I write whatever pairing is interesting to me. And would love to write more gen fic if inspiration strikes. The concept of an OTP used to make no senses to me either, though I guess I've come close with Novandy in the Tennis fandom. I still write lots of other stuff in that fandom though.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I have trouble going back to the Potter stuff for various reasons. Would love to finish a Snarry which is already at almost 30k but doubt I will. I also have a Poirot/Hastings case fic I really want to finish but (see writing weaknesses)

16. What are your writing strengths?

I'm not sure. I hope Í write realistic relationships that make sense in the story. I try to write clear prose that's not too cluttered (I don't always succeed). Sometimes with my longer fics I've managed to slightly miraculously tie things together, which is amazing to me when it happens but I can't control that at all.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I sometimes overexplain. I tend to forget about 'setting the scene' descriptions now and then. And the big one: I can't plot for the life of me, I write as I go along, which isn't always a problem but definitely is when you try to write a murder mystery (I've got an unfinished Poirot one and an unfinished Tatort Münster one which I would love to continue).

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I like it, though I tend to use it relatively sparingly and either add translations or try to make it clear in other ways in the text what was being said (a translation degree comes in handy for this).

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Well the first time I tried writing fic it was Kirk/Spock but the first thing I finished and published was Tatort Münster.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

Don't do this to me. The answer will be different every day, I think, and for lots of reasons. This is not me being pretentious (I hope), because I would have just as much trouble choosing my favourite song or book etc. Let's pick Two and Two Together for today because I never would have thought I'd write a 42k poly fic, but here we are. I think we've established I sometimes surprise myself.

Nerdship thoughts

In a futuristic “what-if” scenario, assuming that the Shadow Magus hasn’t been dealt with yet....

The scene: 

the gang is up against the Shadow Magus, trying to stop him from completing...whatever it is he’s trying to do. [I’m being vague on purpose...]

Seto gets his ass kidnapped again, because despite being better at magic than most of his Hogwarts class, and physically capable of taking down people twice his size...he’s a freakin’ damsel in distress all the time. [We all know it’s true.]

The gang’s technically figured out how to get rid of the Shadow, it’s the execution that needs some work. [How many of Harry’s plans have gone through without a hitch? Exactly.]

Hermione manages to stumble upon Seto...and the Shadow Magus, because of course it was a trap, and he thinks it’s cute how he can essentially sacrifice her off just like he did Kisara right in front of Set. 

These are the random plotty things I think up on the drive home from work.

To fic or not to fic...that is always the question.

M-My Room? If You Insist... - Accepting

YasoInaba: A fairly small bedroom. There's only just enough room between his desk and his bed to walk comfortably, and that's if he remembered to push in his chair.

Hence why he tends to sleep on the side further from it- until Naoto winds up more or less living there, of course.

It's rather sparsely decorated, though his comforter has that 'raining code' pattern that decorates a couple of other pieces of clothing he owns.

Tokyo: A much more comfortably-sized bedroom for two people. It has much more in it- from their desks, to the posters they've gradually collected over time. Mementos of their years together gather in corners and closets, and the covers are more than likely in disarray. This mostly due to a certain someone doing his best to keep a certain someone in bed, just for a while longer.

Noise-cancelling foam is stuck in all of the right corners to try and avoid any noise complaints- from raging during MMOs, get your head out of the gutter, Reo.

Some things didn't change, though. After all, that comforter has always treated both of them well- even if there is a better mattress involved, especially with the strain on Naoto from her line of work.

In the end, home is where she is, and that is enough-

22. Does their work ever interfere with the relationship?

Yes, because of course Kaiba is obsessive, preoccupied, and works too much, he’ll get out of bed at 3 AM to go work on something just because he can’t sleep and why waste the time? AND I’ve thought about the scenarios in which Yuugi works for Kaiba Corp and they end up dating, but, and I can’t stress this enough, (cups hands around mouth) DATING YOUR BOSS IS A BAD IDEA, professionally, legally, etc. And as much as Kaiba ~ does what he wants, it’s his company ~ and as much as Yuugi is decidedly not a doormat, I can’t get over my personal reservations to the concept.

But every once in a while I toy with the idea that Yuugi’s working for Kaiba Corp and they DO start to feel things for each other, but it can’t go anywhere unless he finds a new job, and he’s sort of bristling under Kaiba Corp’s corporate structure/corporate culture anyway, so he finds an excellent position at an indie start-up gaming studio run by an ex-Kaiba Corp game designer who left for the same reasons (lol), and Kaiba is just so! annoyed! that two of his best game people just up and left to work for not him. But now he and Yuugi are completely free to KISS.

28. What are their vacations like?

Kaiba loves to spoil and Yuugi likes to explore, and they’re both cosmopolitan, which is how they end up renting apartments in cities like Barcelona or Moscow or Istanbul for one or two weeks at a time, eating extremely well, and spending six hours in an art museum. One of the rare times when Kaiba is entirely happy to let Yuugi take the lead, because he has a nose for discovery and always ends up finding neat little bookstores or cafes off the beaten path and befriending the locals. And while Kaiba is not about befriending random strangers (or anyone), he’s more than comfortable just nursing his coffee and listening while Yuugi, who is a complete natural, chats up the couple next to them and gets the hot deets on a weekly locals-only flea market. 

45. Any special dreams or goals they have as a couple? Any heartbreaks? Regrets?

Reeeeeealistically I think Yuugi might be a little, hm, on edge/insecure about how much Kaiba connects with and loves Atem, and Kaiba likewise; but it can and should be cleared up with some communication about what they all mean to each other. Like, in a rivalshipping situation where Atem is dead, Yuugi might worry that he’s some kind of replacement or bizarre way to Get Atem Back, and Kaiba has to explain that he isn’t; and in a situation where Atem isn’t dead, he’s still their best friend and they both have a lot of feelings for him and about him. And I think they would both have to be conscientious and deliberate in how they say “I love him and I love you, but I chose YOU, and the love I have for you is different and meaningful all on its own.” 

BUT LET’S DO SOME DREAMS AND GOALS: i think yuugi is a little more gung-ho (annoying?) about trying to make kaiba part of the squad, because friends are important to him and he’d love to see everyone be friends with each other, and kaiba’s like, “i’m never going to be friends with your friends the way you want me to be and you have to accept that, and i will participate in weekly D&D only if I get to DM.” he’s a tyrant but he runs a hell of a game. 

oh and they adopt a cat who loves yuugi more than kaiba unless its 4 AM and then she’s on kaiba’s shoulders while he burns the midnight oil.

1. How do they fall asleep? Wake up? Any daily rituals?

WORKAHOLICS!!!!! They will simply fall asleep on each other’s shoulders on the couch until hermione wakes up out of nowhere at 1 AM and shakes seto’s shoulder that it’s freakin’ time to go to BED. and they’re both morning people, so while she’s in the shower, he starts the coffee and lays out the Daily Prophet for her in the breakfast nook because presentation and attention to detail are important. 

5. Nicknames? Pet names? Any in-jokes?

I can’t imagine either of them as nickname/pet name people, “mokie” not withstanding, so they don’t have cute pet names for each other. But they have deeply esoteric and weird inside jokes that no one else understands, mostly about science and magical theory, and Hermione just has to be like, “oh, sure. It’s just like Newton said” about any random garbage to make Seto choke on his drink with laughter.

11. Do they celebrate holidays? Anniversaries? 

The usual holidays, for family reasons; and neither of them find anniversaries all thaaaaat important, although Seto is secretly a leetle sentimental and likes to send flowers to her office on occasion.

The Nanny Affair, Ch. 1-2 AKA Nanny Panties

What happened this week:

The book drops you smack dab in the middle of some good old fashioned interview sex. Not your conventional job interview. Well, at least they knew that any good story starts with action. Can’t dock them for that. 

Sike, it’s a wet dream. Aaand they don’t know that false beginnings are not a good way to start a story. In my opinion, the only way dream sequences work is if it’s prophetic, or somewhat establishes a plot. Unless MC has some hella foresight, I will dock them for this. All that we got from this is the pixelpeople love to fuck (but we already knew that).

Naturally, the real interview begins with Christian Grey Sam Dalton, your new boss, lounging on the desk. They also decide that you pass the 5-minute Buzzfeed-quiz-style interview and invite you over for a free trial.

Surprisingly… the boys are not devil children. They’re just… children? This is a sight for sore eyes. If these boys are like our kid from MotY then I may just have to reconsider how I think of this book.

Get boozed up and learn more about your mysterious new boss. Oh, they haven’t hired you yet? They will.

Your best friend is already too invested with getting you to homewreck. She finds out that they’re engaged and you are so taken aback that this acts as a chapter cliffhanger, despite only knowing Sam for 2 hours at most.

Chauffeur Carter is a nice person. This dude gives me old man Hank Hatora vibes. If that turns out to be the case, then we just might have to keep him.

Take the boys out to the planetarium on your first day, because you’ve already proven that you can manage them in their fancy home. Be totally nosy by taking them to Central Park and asking about Sam’s secret fiancee. You’ve known them for one day, literally calm down.

Against the sacred rules, you take the boys on the subway and Sam freaks out about it. Leads me to believe that something bad happened on the subway that’s definitely tragic backstory material. Maybe something about the mother?

Fight or fuck baby. These two are already so sexed up for each other that they nearly bang it out on the counter before a phone call cockblocks/clam jams you.

Thoughts:

A maturity warning at the beginning of the chapter? Interesting… Where was this when threesomes began or Witness happened? At least this is some sort of growth. Will they reconsider changing the age rating from 12+?

I’m always for some great art and graphics, and the artists went crazy for Chapter 1. I really hope they didn’t dump all their graphics into the first chapter then left it at that. It loses its charm.

Seeing BB MC’s face gallivanting around New York totally into her CEO millionaire boss gives me major flashbacks. It’s almost too much.

I’m so glad that this MC has brain cells and is not a piece of shit but… if you have a masters in chemistry why apply for a nanny job? The book casually mentions the company being science-related but, like, why not an internship or an actual job? You can do quite a bit with that degree. On a somewhat related note, the boys are also science nerds and I appreciated that. They can’t top MotY Zoey’s level of nerdship though. That’s a special reserved spot for her.

I still can’t believe that someone actually pitched this and someone greenlit it. The pacing is still really iffy and this MC is still horny as fuck. But hey, why not give it a shot. It’s not Witness, so I’ll listen for a bit.

The Nerd-Girl Writes...

I don't profess to be an expert in authorship. Though I have written books that are published I have not capitalized on the fame because I am only a cog in the machine. I am a ghostwriter and after three years of professional ghostwriting, I do think I can give a budding writer some advice.

But I think I must start with an introduction. Moniq at your service. A ghostwriter who lives in a Caribbean country with American ideas. Trained as a journalist, moonlights as a ghostwriter and has an affection (not addiction) for coffee, pistachio ice-cream and Johnny Depp. Also, I am a certified NERD.

First indicator of nerdship: I started writing at a young age. I remember sitting around my grandmother’s old yellow typewriter at four years old just clicking the buttons and marvelling at the onyx ink on sterling white paper.

Second indicator: I grew up with books as my company and read out my local library at eleven years old. It was sort of comical, when adults twice my age would ask me where to find this book or that encyclopedia. Oh and I also read the dictionary twice.

Third indicator: I ran an underground library system at my high school and went on to write an award-winning recreation of Theseus and the Minotaur in ninth grade. I worked in libraries, bookstores, and wrote columns for a national newspaper. I have watched every episode of the Big Bang Theory, every Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Matrix, Marvel movie, Dr. Who, and the list goes on.

Now however, I find myself as a ghostwriter, for Urban, Regency, Paranormal and Contemporary Romances. I started this blog because I realize that there are many more people like me, when I started out, completely floundering and I would like to help others out so they don’t make the same mistakes I did. 2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 741,948! The majority of that is from Of Lost Swords and Shadow Magic.

3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? Of Lost Swords and Shadow Magic: the ygo/hp crossover origin fic for my Wayward Wizardry series.

Murder Most Foul: the ygo murder mystery game fic. The silliest bit of writing I've probably ever done, spawned by late night joke sessions with @kaibacorpintern.

4. Do you respond to comments, why or why not? I've since fallen off replying to comments, which is sad because I was fairly decent at it. I still do occasionally and I'm sure I will pick it up again someday.

In the meantime, whether I respond to them or not, know that I read and cherish every one of them.

5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? Oh...probably Guilt. It takes place right after Atem leaves and Yugi has many feelings.

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending? Probably Let it Snow, the ultra-sugary Christmas Fic I wrote on a whim during an OLSSM hiatus.

7. Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written? I live in the ygo/hp crossover corner of the fandoms. But the craziest one I've ever written has to be Sapphire Road, because it's not only ygo/hp, but a Wizard of Oz/Return to Oz fusion. And it's Nerdship.

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic? Not necessarily hate but I have gotten some rather...interesting comments over on FF.net. There's one guest user that keeps trying to predict when I'm going to kill off Seto, and another that kept wanting me to write nonsensical ships into OLSSM.

9. Do you write smut? If so what kind? Hard no.

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of. Hopefully not!

11. Have you ever had a fic translated? Nope!

12. Have you ever co-written a fic before? I've co-authored jokes for a fic! Does that count?

13. What’s your all-time favorite ship? My Nerdship babies!! Seto and Hermione take up a nice roomy residence in my brain 24/7, and since I've essentially created said ship, it's a lot of fun to explore how it comes together and what the future for them would look like beyond each of their canon series.

Otherwise, I am more of a platonic shipper vs romantic in the yugioh fandom, and I have soft spots for both pride, rival, trust and peach ship!

14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? I really don't want to have any unfinished fic, but i know in my heart that my Person of Interest fic will never be finished.

I've also been out of sorts with Ghost in the Machine as of late, and while it's on a temporary hiatus right now so I can work on OLSSM and Murder Most Foul, I'm sure I will return to it sooner rather than later.

15. What are your writing strengths? Plotting and characterization. While I am not-so-good at sticking to my outlines, most of my fics are elaborately plot-heavy, and it is very important to me that the characters sound and act as you would normally expect them to.

Another strength is just...going. If I'm sitting down to write and the words are flowing, I can get a ton down on the page in one sitting, and it's helped break me out of funks before.

16. What are your writing weaknesses? Sticking to outlines, haha! But mostly being more of a descriptive writer. Sometimes I can tend to be very dialogue heavy, and while that's not terribly a bad thing, being more prose-y is something I am trying to work on.

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? I've never done it myself, but wouldn't be against it.

18. What was the first fandom you wrote for? ygo/hp. Surprise, surprise. Back in 2005! It was the junky, plotless version of OLSSM, and the true, original Nerdship story. It's still online in the depths of FF.net if you choose to seek out terrible writing, and follows almost every rule in the "you know you were on FF.net in 2009 if you did this..." post.

19. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written? How dare you make me play favorites among my children! Probably OLSSM only because it's such a journey for me to take something that was absolutely terrible and completely redo it! It was my first child returning to the YGO fandom after years apart and has been such a labor of love to develop. And it's the longest story I've ever tackled, and my first real attempt at ship writing. :D

And cuz I love me my crossover fics.

But Murder Most Foul is a close runner up only because unlike everything else I've written, it is not a serious fic. It's meant to be silly, and that in itself creates a new challenge to keep it lighthearted, but keep the characters intact.

🌟  2020 fanwork highlights 🌟

2020 was wild. As I mentioned in my year-end wrap-up post, I wrote a ton of things, and since you can always check out the post through that link, I’m only going to share a few snippet quote here. 

From Nerdshipping Shenanigans, I present passages from both “Blind Date” and “Weekend Getaway”, which I think were the two best ship pieces I’ve done this year.

In “Blind Date”, Ginny coaxes Hermione to attend Hogwarts’s winter formal, and sets her up with a date in the process.

Ginny turned the page in her book. “Is he stopping by Hogsmeade in two weeks?” There have been three Hogsmeade weekends so far through the year. Each time, Seto had traveled from wherever he was working to see Hermione, and she had never seen her friend so eager to visit the village before in all the years she had known her. One time, he even brought Yugi, and the three of them spent almost the entire afternoon at one of the outside café tables next to Wermes Bookstore.

She looked up to see the smile slip from Hermione’s face. So he wasn’t coming this time…interesting.

“He’s going to be at a convention that weekend,” Hermione said. “But he has the rest of them in his calendar. That was the only one he won’t make.”

“Oh, that’s too bad,” said Ginny. Her face softened and she smiled sadly at her. “It must be really hard being so far away all the time.”

Hermione sagged back against her pillow and looked away from her.

“…So where is he these days, anyhow?”

“Right now, San Francisco,” said Hermione, and she leaned forward to pet Crookshanks. “He’ll be in back in Japan during Hogsmeade weekend, promoting a new video game for his company.”

“Guy sure does get around,” said Ginny, “How do you keep track of all the places he keeps going to?” She then smirked over at Hermione and cut in before she could respond. “The answer is – you can’t. Like that one time when –”

Hermione’s face reddened. “It was one time!”

“Weekend Getaway saw Hermione sneak Seto out of the office to celebrate his birthday. 

Seto woke to the faint sound of squawking seagulls and his eyes slowly opened to the darkened bedroom. Hermione was snuggled in, sharing the other half of his pillow with her head resting against the crook of his neck with one arm draped across his chest. He could feel her slow, deep breaths; each exhale a puff of air that warmed his skin just above the collar of his pajamas.

Of all the places she could have taken him, he did not expect a quiet coastal town off the eastern shore of the United States, in a little rented house that sat right along the beach, and the front steps led right onto the boardwalk that seemed to continue on forever in each direction.

“This place is charming,” Hermione had said when they first arrived. “Someone from the Department of International Magical Cooperation mentioned this town to me when I was trying to make plans for the weekend.”

They had spent the better part of yesterday exploring the town. The summer tourist season had ended last month, clearing most of the crowds from the beach. Cool crisp air rolled off of the water to counter the unusually still warm autumn weather. They had to have walked up and down most of the quaint little town, and wandered into a number of tiny little shops.

The longest brunt of time was spent in a hidden gem of a bookstore, four blocks from the house.

“I swear I didn’t know about it when I made the reservations!” she had said. Did he plan on spending half his vacation day in a bookshop? Nope. But was he going to begrudge her the chance to find something to take onto the beach, after seeing how much her eyes lit up once she saw the sign above the shop door? After seeing the pleading look of ‘can we please detour on our way to the museum, just for a few minutes?’ Absolutely not.

It didn’t matter that five minutes turned into a couple of hours.

Sufficed to say, wandering all over town on foot had tired him out more than he expected, and he felt he slept better than he had over the entire last week.

Despite waking up at six in the morning, like clockwork. Hermione seemed to be still asleep.

He shifted, to try and get out from under her arm when she suddenly let out a sad, whiney sort of noise, and she tightened her hold on him.

I also had the fun of writing a gift fic during this year’s YGOME exchange and had the most fun diving into Yugi’s headspace as he returns home from Egypt. This is from Guilt.

Yugi didn’t talk for the majority of the plane ride home, but did manage to give a small smile and a wave to his grandfather at the airport. Grandpa naturally pressed for details but only received short, clipped answers in return: what happened to the Millennium Puzzle? (“Gone.”) Did they get to finish what they set out to do? (“Yes.”) Did he still have the God cards? (“No.”)

Though he had to check himself on the last one. It was no secret that his grandfather loved to admire them, but Yugi vaguely remembered the tomb taking back the God monsters, just as it did the Millennium Items, as if to say the Pharaoh has left. The Millennium Items are gone. Their work is done, they can all finally rest.

Yugi sank down onto his bed and, with a shaking hand, pulled the golden box from his bag. Inside sat both his new Duel Monsters deck, and the one he used to share with Atem. He removed his deck and put it safely away in his deck box. But he couldn’t help but stare at the set of cards he left inside.

Ten years…

Yugi scooted back against his headboard and clutched the golden puzzle box tightly against his chest, eyes closed.

If he went back in time ten years to the date Grandpa handed him the Millennium Puzzle, broken apart in this very box and told his younger self of all he had to look forward to, both the good and the bad, he would have thought himself mad. Eight years to complete a simple puzzle? Ridiculous! Magic? Come on!

Gonna cut it off here because otherwise I will be dropping fic snippets for the next week. OLSSM, Sapphire Road, Ghost in the Machine, and Murder Most Foul all have too many great moments and I love them all equally.

Coming Soon: The 12 [Nerdship] Days of Fic-Mas!

As we slog through December in our haste to rid ourselves of all that was 2020, there is still one round of fun left to be had - this year’s 12 Days of Fic-Mas!

For the new followers that may not have been around, 12 Days of Fic-Mas is more or less what it sounds like - a little fic treat of some sort each day leading up to Christmas. 

Last year’s assortment included a mix of fic snippets, story art, headcanons, and more!

This year, however, will be something a bit different! 

Inspired by true stories*, Hermione Granger and Seto Kaiba star in a highly indulgent 12-part miniseries about retail shenanigans at a major drug store chain. Directed by corporate troll Maximillion Pegasus, “Falling in Love in a Pharmacy” is coming to all major reading platforms on 12/13/20.  *All names have been changed to protect both the innocent and the annoying.

#7 and #8 on the 2020 End of the Year Writing Asks, please.

7. Is there anything you wish you did this year that you’re going to dedicate time to next year? Nothing that I didn’t do, but towards the end of the year I did start rotating my WIPs, and I think it really helped to stay on top of each one. For 2021, I want to definitely continue that so I don’t have a fic sitting in hiatus for an entire year. Right now Ghost, OLSSM, and Murder fic are on it, but I hope to sneak the Nerdship Wedding fic in the mix too, and mayyybe the “Super Secret Project”.

Alternatively....something I definitely didn’t do that I totally wanted was finish.the.current.OLSSM.arc. 

GOD. I can only hope that Harry’s 6th year is finished off in 2021. There’s still so much more to go. 😭

8. What was the most fun writing experience this year? Joining YGOME! It was the first time I did a gift exchange, and because I’m both shy and rather self-conscious about my writing I was really nervous my recipient wouldn’t like it, which naturally wasn’t the case at all! And I got to write and explore themes I normally wouldn’t have written about, so it was a great challenge!

13) who gives the most compliments? They’re about equal. Seto’s compliments run about on par in amazement of all the many ways Hermione managed to break the rules or break out of her “perfect student” image (ie setting Snape’s robes on fire, tricking Umbridge into the Forbidden Forest, etc). Hermione finds awe in KC’s technological advancements (not to stroke his ego, of course, but eh, it happens), and the “social growth” he’s gone through from the start of the Hogwarts adventure to the present. 

14) who usually starts/causes arguments between them? Seto will usually find something to pick over in the magical world. The great magic vs science debate, old-timey magical laws that don’t make sense, etc. Depending on the topic, they’ll go at it forever because neither of them are willing to concede their point. 

15) who isn’t afraid to embarrass the other in public? They are each very well-known in their own worlds thanks to either being straight up famous (Kaiba), or known for their part in ending the wizarding war (Hermione), and being friends with Harry didn’t help. So they tend to stay out of the public eye as much as possible. Embarrassing each other happens in private or around close friends only. 

17) who fusses over takes care of the other when they get sick? Hermione. She’s smart enough to take Pepperup Potion if she starts feeling sick, so a cold won’t last. A few hours tops of discomfort and then she’ll be fine. Seto on the other hand will just pretend his cold doesn’t exist and will just work his way to passing out at his desk or being unable to get out of bed. Hermione will fuss over him, coerce him one way or another to take Pepperup (or Muggle cold medicine), and then read him the riot act for not taking care of himself.

18) who finds it impossible to stay angry at the other for long? They both went through enough near-death experiences before and during the Wizarding War that unless they’re just trying to one-up each other in a science vs magic date night debate, staying angry at each other just isn’t worth it. Seto, however, is more likely to stew in whatever’s bothering him for far longer than Hermione, regardless if it has to do with her or not.

I was going to hold off on posting the August sprint things until I had them all done, but honestly I just don’t have the willpower to have them sit.

I say “them” like there’s more than one sitting in wait, but it’s really just one.

Who does more housework: Magic. And/or a maid.

What couple cosplay they should do: One of their favorite things are arguing science vs magic. So they each pick a famous person from their own point of view. No one has a clue to who they are.

Who cried watching Toy Story 3: Neither of them have seen the movie, but Hermione would be the one to get emotional over it.

Who hogs the blankets at night: Crookshanks.

What they fight about: Seto’s very over-protectiveness towards her. Crookshanks shedding all over his pillow. Physics vs fundamental laws of magic (winner of the debate gets to choose date night).

Who has more Facebook friends: Seto, only because Hermione doesn’t have Facebook.

One headcanon about them: Their favorite hiding spot at Hogwarts is by the lake. It’s far enough from the school that no one bothers them.
