I’m giving money directly to artists if I like them then I’m just going to p1rate music and movies and shit from now on. This is bullshit. I doubt YouTube gives even a sliver of that money to the creators. Especially ones who deserve it.

I've donated to as many people in Gaza I can afford and it just makes me sad there is an endless flood of them. Sometimes I wish I didn't have to see all of this horror on my screen but I know Tumblr is the only place where it's really even being shared. Im reminding myself that I need to see the truth about it.

I usually quote John Mulaney and say something "makes me want to walk right into the ocean!" Or reference something along the lines of become deep sea or forest creature.

They should invent a phrase as incredibly evocative as "killing myself" that isnt about killing yourself

This is one of the things about this show I really love! Nobody is morally correct! Everyone has feelings and acts on them! Was it correct for Rayla to break Runaan out without giving Ezran some more time? Probably not, was it nessasary for her? Yes.

Same with Ezran. Should he have heard them out? Especially when Callum brought up Zubeia, yes, but he was angry! He acted on those feelings and that's something we don't see him do often. It was so impactful seeing him give the order to attack. The feeling of being betrayed. The clouded judgement by seeing the elf that killed his dad.

It really was a breaking point for both of them and I'm glad they get these kind of things fleshed out. Character development/ letting characters be nasty is really TDP's strong points.

Ezran and Rayla’s behaviour early season 7

When I first watched the season, I was really taken aback at both Ezran’s violence and Rayla’s lack of empathy (and their commitment to behaving like this regardless of what anyone - mostly Callum - says) almost to a point of thinking that it was a little out of character for them. But then I thought about it a little harder and I realised that how both of them behaved in the earlier episodes is a progression of their previous behaviour and is also indicative of both an emotional theme of the show in general and a theme of the season. Grief and desperation, respectively.

In any case, I don’t like watching them argue, it makes me sad, regardless of how narratively rich it is. So I’m glad they’re besties again (I would still like to see a big feelings time, though).

Grief

One of the big themes of the show is how grief can manifest in different and, often, cruel ways. Our characters become so consumed by their grief that they hurt others, both their enemies and their families. Like how Harrow killed Avizandum or how Ethari ghosted Rayla.

Both Rayla and Ezran are actively grieving when this conflict is happening. Ezran has just lost his home and Rayla has just permanently lost her birth parents. Thus, they are not behaving how they normally would. Their grief has been pushed to the emotional extreme.

For Ezran, he has to face the person who killed his last remaining parent, regardless of why he did it, right off the tail end of finding his home destroyed. For Ezran, it’s a manifestation of the fact that he (and Callum) have spent two years showing kindness, compassion and forgiveness to Xadia while not really being shown anything in return. He’s at a breaking point.

For Rayla, she’s just lost two parents to save another and is fighting tooth and nail to keep him. And for her, Ezran is trying to take him away again.

We also know that for both of them, their grief often manifests as anger before mellowing out later, even if that anger ends up being directed at people they care about.

We see this in season 2 when Ezran finds out Harrow has been killed and his knee jerk reaction is one of anger. For Rayla we see this in season 3 after she finds out about Runaan and the other assassins when she gets incredibly defensive with, and angry at, Callum. In the current circumstances, there are underlying factors that are turning these already established reactions up by like 1000.

Which brings me to:

Desperation

They’re both desperate.

As is everyone in this season. Their own worlds are all falling apart, their plans are failing, and everyone is desperate to have some semblance of control over their own situations.

As much as he has tried to keep the situation under control, everything for Ezran is falling apart and now there is yet another thing that is completely out of his hands. With Rayla, she’s also had her control ripped from her. She thought she had everything under control, three diamonds to bring back her three parents. And now that’s gone. And neither of them are in control.

And none of this is helped by the fact that they are effectively fighting over Callum. Who, for all intents and purposes, is probably trying to take the best course of action that is available to them, and neither of them are listening.

These are still grieving children who are tired and have no idea how to navigate this situation because for the past two years neither have had a parent to guide them through their loss.

HONESTLY i sort of make it up as i go along?? the universe is a lil more like techy/futuristic so i can draw the cars however i want and claim its just wacky sci fi tech.... that being said please tell me your headcanons!!!!!! thank you 🥺💗
