We at it again fam!

Thank you so much for everyone's support last year and for those that took our survey. It means so much to us that so many people were excited about our calendar and wanted another year. We hadn't thought that far ahead last year. At the time, it was just something we wanted to do for the fandom and ourselves, but here we are with another calendar and more merch.

So thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

This year, we decided to do a collection of AU's as the uniting theme. Some mystical, supernatural, fantasy, and other ideas will be the focus of this year's illustrations and stories.

We will be working on the store in the coming weeks and will most likely do a presale to start ordering merch. We will do our best to put together some stickers, pins, and bookmarks to go along with our calendar.

If there are any other suggestions, please feel free to let us know, and we will do our best to see if we can.

Hello! Unfortunately, I only started getting into KakaSaku last year so my rec list is pretty short, but I will list my personal top favorites! (I have included the AO3/Fanfiction.net hyperlink to the stories as well):

Tabula Rasa series by moodiful819 - this is a series of 4 interconnected one-shots that are to be read in the following order: "Tabula Rasa", "Twist of the Knife", "Baby Steps", "Square One", and then "Curtain Call". You will be a sobbing mess in the end. I have personally never recovered from the hole this series's ending left in my heart because it's so gutwrenchingly good.

House of Crows by SilverShine - another classic hit in the KakaSaku community! I highly recommend this work and this author. Silvershine writes some of the best KakaSaku fics out there, so make sure to check out her other works! I especially love Tender Loving Care, Hokage sama, and Duty Before Honor

A Ghost Story by Purple_Panic - a one-shot that has spooky sexy time

Stripped Bare by Purple_Panic - a really great porn-with-plot mission fic that I also highly recommend!

The Hypnotist by Cassieeeeanne - A sexy, dark KakaSaku fic that has all the right plot twists and kinks to keep you on your toes. If you like Dark Kakashi (or you want some well-written, unadulterated sexy smut) then I highly recommend checking out @cassieeeeanne's other fics!

Otherwise, there's also this master list of really great KakaSaku fics but I cannot find the post. It's somewhere on Tumblr and I saw it in the KakaSaku tag a few weeks ago - does anyone in the community have it?

Strange’s Fic Recs Part 1

So, I love all of the ships (if you can’t tell from the history of what I’ve written) and wanted to give some love to some great authors that deserve it! Here’s what I’ve been reading lately.

Icha Icha Nights Authors: @i-like-to-look-at-your-back, @anniemaar, @flailinginlove Rating: Explicit Pairing: Kakashi/Iruka Why: This fic is loosely based on the tale of Scheherazade. Iruka is captured by the King (Kakashi) for a petty crime and faces execution, but preserves his life through telling captivating stories every night. It’s an absolutely gorgeous fic with gorgeous art accompanying it. It’s funny, it’s sweet, and it’ll make you tear up a little! It’s definitely one of the top five fics I’ve ever read.

Riptide Author: @anannua Rating: Explicit Pairing: Kakashi/Minato/Obito, Obito/Rin, Itachi/Shisui, Jiraiya/Tsunade/Orochimaru Why: Anannua is the poly queen! Riptide explores the complexities of navigating relationships with multiple people while still managing to weave in canon elements for a beautiful story - minus canon sadness. It’s an absolutely thrilling read, and if you didn’t love Team Minato before, you will after this! Also, just read everything else she’s ever written while you’re at it. You won’t be disappointed.

Queen of Air and Darkness Author: ScarlettJuniper Rating: Mature Pairing: Kakashi/Sakura, Naruto/Sasuke Why: This fic is honestly the reason I made this list. If you are a KakaSaku fan and you haven’t read it yet, hop to it! ScarlettJuniper is cranking out chapters of this Arthurian AU and I can’t get enough of it. Sakura is a squire that has secretly trained in the forbidden art of sorcery, and Kakashi is a knight that trained her when she was a mere page. The battles are beautifully written, and the constantly push-and-pull of love and duty to the kingdom is thrilling. Please give this fic some love!

Mine and Yours Author: @kakashis-eggplant-gais-peach Rating: Explicit Pairing: Kakashi/Gai Why: This is actually part 3 of a KakaGai ABO series. While having the traditionally elements of ABO, there’s so much love between Kakashi and Gai, even though Kakashi is bad at feelings and struggles to admit it at first.  There are so many sweet little moments that demonstrate the depth of their relationship, but also, it’s just really hot. I honestly think that gaiseggplant is one of the best KakaGai writers out there, so you should absolutely check them out!

Play With Me Author: @moonlady9 Rating: Explicit Pairing: Kakashi/Sakura Why: Besides the fact that moonlady9 might be my kink soulmate, I’m sure that just about everyone that has read this fic thought to themselves “well, I didn’t think I was into pet play, but now I might be.” The amount of research that went into writing this must have been incredible, and the result is a sweet and sexy Sakura as Kakashi’s kitten, accompanied by beautiful art to boot. If you like kinky things, moonlady9 is your girl!

Lipstick Stains Author: @thekatthatbarks Rating: Teen Pairing: Sakura/Ino Why: Look, let me be 100% clear that there is not enough SakuIno/InoSaku content on this earth. But this fic is a gift to all of us, full of the best kind of heartfelt gay pining. The author so beautifully explores the feeling of crushing on a girl and wondering if they’re just being nice to you or flirting with you. If your heart is craving some SakuIno goodness, you should absolutely check this out! (And maybe it will prompt some of you to write more of this lovely pairing!!! I know I need to, as well!)

The Shadows of Your Heart Author: @riseoftheblossom-ff Rating: Mature Pairing: Itachi/Sakura Why: Don’t lie to me - you all love arranged marriage non-mass fics. Sakura is given a mission to marry Itachi and stop the imminent uprising of the Uchiha clan. The exploration of her relationship with Itachi, the pressure of the clan to adhere to tradition, and her incredible frustration at being forced into marriage is so well-done, and I’m so intrigued to see where the author takes it next! It is absolutely worth the read.  I might make a part two at some point! But in the meantime, go check out these fics and be sure to leave a review or twelve to let them know how much you love their stuff!

Quarantine Q&A

Are you staying home from work/school?

Definitely staying home (Coronavirus is really bad) but don’t have work or school. 🙂 I stay home with my son who’s 9. I’ve had celiac disease all my life but it was just diagnosed 6 months ago. So my body has been wrecked and weak for years, especially after i had my son. No one could tell me what was wrong with me and i couldn’t afford regular medical care so i gave up & just thought i sucked. 😊 We just started going to a doctor in our area who started a new kind of practice where you pay a set amount each month and can go in as often as you want (daily if you wanted!) and talk with them during your appointment as long as you want. Surprise surprise, they figured it out! So now i am healing and getting stronger. But getting more tests or treatments from anyone outside my doctor’s office is still financially out of reach for us despite having insurance. This is one reason i’m a big supporter of single payer/medicare for all 🙂 (Well we *did* have insurance but my husband was one of the many who lost their jobs in the past week, so now we are uninsured. Another reason we support M4All!)

If you’re staying home, who’s there with you?

My husband and son and our golden retriever and two cats 🐈 (i have no idea why there’s a big space jump above between questions. Oh Tumblr.)

What movies have you watched recently?

“The Last” and “Will of Fire” in the Naruto franchise and “The Lord of the Rings”

What shows are you watching?

Shrill, Brooklyn 99, and Picard right now. For during quarantine I can’t recommend “Schitt’s Creek” enough. It starts out super slow and irritating but soon you fall in love with the characters (the character of David alone is the best thing ever) and realize the actors are such great people who really love each other. You enter such a safe, pleasant world for awhile. We were truly at a loss when we reached the end. We recently watched The Watchmen also and it’s the best show we’ve ever seen, though horrific & gut-wrenching at times. Also highly recommend The Expanse series.

Are you a homebody?

Yes and no, I’m very introverted but also love to go out and get drinks/dinner, go to the bookstore, go for hikes, and i go for trail runs almost every day.

An event you were looking forward to but got cancelled?

My husband and son going to work and school every day so i can have time to myself! 😊 Also *other* people going to work every day so they’re not all out on the trails.

What music are you listening to?

Sia, Big Wild, Taylor Swift, Depeche Mode, The Runaways soundtrack, general pop music

What are you reading?

“The Dispossessed” by Ursula LeGuin. I love it, its her Utopian novel & it seems so applicable right now. It’s a little dry in parts and there’s one super dumb scene which i bet she never would’ve written today but it was a different world then, but overall so interesting. Also KakaSaku fan fiction when i can. It helps a lot to cheer me up when i’m feeling really low or afraid so thank you so much fiction writers ❤️

What are you doing for self-care?

The things I mentioned above. I was seeing a therapist but our insurance stopped covering it. Fighting tooth and nail to try to keep a healthy sleep schedule. I follow the news a lot (not on fb, i deactivated years ago) - mostly leftist sources from the perspective of the working class, and it’s terrible out there. So coming here & seeing everyone’s posts & reading people’s fics makes such a difference. Have had to make a rule that i don’t get on twitter until after doing things i need to do. I guess I also started writing my own fanfic. I’m a writer who doesn’t write, but Kakashi and the Coronavirus pushed me over the edge 😂 It’s nice to have a world to inhabit that isn’t this one sometimes, you know? 💜

2023 Year In Review

This year I wrote 276,380 words and posted 258,729 of that.

Busiest Month: July with 55k words written.

Completed a 80k long fic at the beginning of the year.

Almost completed a 125k fic over the summer. 

Wrote 8 One Shots.

Started 4 long fics. Completed 4 events.

Hosted the vacation event. 

I made some amazing, supportive friends this year who helped push me to that quarter-million word count. 

Thank you to @something-like-air for being my rock this year. Thank you for supporting me and keeping me sane (mostly). Thank you for beta’ing over 500,000 words to date. I’m deeply grateful for everything you’ve done for me. You’ve saved me from myself more than you know. You deserve every good thing that has happened to you this year and then some. I hope you stay blessed, that the road rises to meet you, the wind remains at your back, and the sun shines warm upon your face. 

Thank you @lightweaving for becoming my friend this year. I appreciate the laughs we’ve shared, and the time we’ve spent writing together. Thank you for co-modding the Vacation Event with me. Thank you for pushing me to be a better writer with our silly games and competitions. Our shared insanity kept me going even when the Depression (™) tried to take over. I’m grateful that we’ve become friends. 

Thank you @komorebirabbit and @renaerys for slapping me upside the head when I needed it, and for listening to my silly little idea rants. Thank you for tolerating the jokes, sarcasm, and competitive spirit. Thank you for pushing me to write even when time got thin and my patience ran low. @bunnbreaker You are always ready to go balls to the wall for your people, and that is a trait I strongly admire. I hope that never changes for you. And I’m so thankful that I met you this year. You’re a strong person and have fought whatever life has thrown at you with grace. Don’t be afraid of that. It’s amazing to watch!

@xylazine thank you for all of the good times this year and for the round-robin fic. Thank you for all of your support and cheerleading throughout the year, even when writer’s block had a chokehold on you. It takes a big person to be able to move past their own struggles and help someone else. You’re the real MVP of the comment section and that’s huge in and of itself. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, appreciates how hard you work to read and comment on everyone’s fic. So thank you! 

@moonlady9 we’ve been through a lot of ups and downs together. This year was one of our hardest. You were one of the first people in this fandom to believe in me. You always fight to write something new and innovative. Thank you for being there, even when the real world got messy. Thank you for fighting through life to be where you are. Even though it may seem bleak and dark, you always come out on top. And I pray you always will. You deserve that much and more. <3

Looking for great stories to read on AO3 during quarantine?

If you are looking for amazing Naruto fanfics that have lots of very well written smut I can’t recommend the following people enough.

@anannua​ - I LOVE Riptide and Howling. Riptide is a young Kakashi fic that includes Obito, Rin, and Minato. Howling includes the same people but in a different way. Nothing Feels Better and Better Feel Nothing (with Kakashi, Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke) are also amazing, but they have some dark parts so heed the warnings.

@panlock - The Arrangement series has me checking each day to see if there are updates. It is an ABO fic about Naruto, Kakashi, and Sasuke. Emotions are handled very well in this story. My emotions, however, are not. Simply wonderful.

@kakayamaforever ​ -  Devour is a Kakashi, Tenzo, and Iruka fic that has wonderful twists and turns. I simply can’t say enough about Black on Blue. It is also a Kakashi, Tenzo and Iruka fic. Tenzo and Kakashi are boxers (how hot is that??) and you really get pulled into the story. Easier to Run is also a Kakashi, Tenzo, Iruka high school au that had me all up in the feels. So. Good. 

@ila-moon - Omega Erased is an ABO fic about Sakura and Kakashi. There are some dark elements so heed the warnings. But if that sort of stuff doesn’t bother you, READ IT. A Study in Movement is another Sakura and Kakashi story that takes place in a real world setting. Couldn’t put it down.

@moonlady9 - Blood Gulch Floods is one of the very first stories I read on AO3 (I actually just started reading it again). It is about Sakura and the different Uchihas. But again, heed the warnings. It gets me all up in my feels. The Sweet as Sakura series is a wonderful ABO story about Sakura and different men.

I simply can not say enough about each of these writers. They are amazing and I greatly appreciate their hard work in their writing. Several of them have multiple stories that they are updating at once. While what I mentioned up above are just a few stories by each author, they each have many more and I have read the majority of them. I have yet to read a story that I haven’t liked. Thank you all for your hard work!

Magical AUs are not really my thing but I did quite enjoy When The Night Comes by @cosmic--moth, it’s a KakaSaku vampire AU and anything Alien writes is fantastic.

She has another fantasy genre AU called The Sweetest Submission that I haven’t read but check it out if you want. Like I said, anything she writes is definitely good.

And finally The Land of Fire and Bones by @moonlady9. Again, I’ve not personally read this but I heard a lot of people talking about it, and the general feedback seems pretty great. This features dragon Kakashi and healer Sakura.
