Monthly Update (October 2024)

Hello everyone, happy October!

Apologies for the late update, but I was out of the country for a couple of weeks 🫡 I hope everyone had a fantastic September!

What did I do this month?

During the first couple weeks of September, I mainly focused on The Perfect Woman, which I released in mid-September! I finished the last CGs and did some polish work, including adding the ending gallery, before getting the game beta-tested. I also made the itch page and a couple of promotional posts. After the release, I spent a few days de-compressing (new game releases are always a bit stressful, for some reason 😂) and did some of the usual stuff: adding the game to IMDB, updating my socials with the new release, etc etc. I also spent some time responding to everyone's comments; they were very kind and thoughtful, thank you to everyone who took the time to play 🙇‍♀️

In addition, I worked a bit on cleaning up my code base. I've mostly been using "The Deepwater Witch" as a base (since it was the first game I made in Godot), which wasn't the greatest because it lacked a lot of key features, such as VA and a customizable protagonist 😂 So every time I needed to add those features, I had to code them in again. So I made a clean slate codebase that implements all of the features that I would need. I added in localization functions, as well as the ability to add a customizable protagonist. I also started implementing Steam achievements and a togglable virtual keyboard (for mobile devices or Steam Deck). On the scriptwriting front, I wrote ~15k across a few different projects (the ones that I soft-announced in my most recent Project Roadmap)! I also commissioned a new Karamu logo, since I plan on expanding the project.

And during the second half of the month, I was traveling! While I was gone, I collected quite a few photos to use as background references and visited a few locations and museums to do research, but I was out and about too much to do any serious dev work 😅 (I did come up with a couple new game ideas while I was in transport 😂 but it'll be a while before I tackle them…)

What's going on next month?

Now that I'm back and well-rested, for the rest of the month I plan to continue scriptwriting across three projects (the three unannounced yandere projects from the Roadmap - which I will probably announce on my Patreon sometime soon! I'll wait to announce them on my other socials for when I have sprites and some CGs done 😂) I'll also start doing character design and background sketches for those projects, as well as background work for Hanasu, the last part of Karamu.

Thaltro update! Nightwatchhhh

I know most of you guys don’t care about the Nightwatch AU thing I’m making which is fair cause I barely post about it. But I just wanted to say expect me posting way way more on it. Im so excited with how it’s going, I’ll put out a trailer soon and my final writing for chapter 1 is almost done + I’m doing paneling.

It doesn’t foucus on a singular timeline but more focuses on the interactions of different aus like underverse. This story is mostly based in the omega timeline and I expand and rewrite alot of lore (biology, magic, the map of the utmv, voids, corruption, etc) Nightwatch’ s genre is psychological horror / jailbreak with a heavy focus on characters, with the psychological horror aspect I should give general warnings that it’s 16+ for gore and violence. More in-depth warnings are:

- torture (physical and psychological, specifically medical is the most common in it)

-religious psychological horror

-Suicide, self harm, addiction

If any of those makes you uncomfortable, definitely don’t read it. But yes I’m real excited to post it!! Each chapter is around 4000-5000 words, so pretty long for a monthly update. Character wise it heavily focuses on the bad sanses, dream and ink, and the doctors team. I plan on this project taking a few years to complete, but I’m willing to dedicate that time to it.

Anyways, before I post the trailer just expect me posting concept art more. Decided to post my favourite guy first so here’s the official NW dream concept art. Yay

Happy Full Moon!

It’s really late (I stayed up late hammering out some last second bugs) so I’m going to make this quick. My big goal this month was to write the ‘running away’ route for players who wish to leave the city at the end of Chapter Ten. I’ve almost done that. There’s still more work to be done in that branch, but I’m really happy with what I have achieved.

I wrote it in bits and pieces, and there’s a lot of variables at play, so the feedback I’m most anxious to hear about is flow. Does it make sense? Does it feel choppy? What can I do to improve readability?

I’m going to keep working on this route next month, and keep slowly fleshing out the ‘ally hunting’ options in the main route.

The showdown with Lucius is going to be the big, epic battle and I’m really looking forward to writing it, but I think it’s probably still a few months away. Gaius’ showdown is actually less epic because it’s all about saying the right things rather than actually fighting.

Hot damn free motion quilting is fun! Why hadn't I tried it before?

Did you know you can get a machine foot that can go wherever it wants and you just move the fabric under it to make wiggly lines and such? (Though if your machine doesn't have drop feed you will need to put a throat plate over the feed dogs, like the ones that come with vintage buttonholer attachments.)

February 2025 Forecast

As always when February hits I must announce it as the second best month of the year. Simply because all of us with birthdays in this month are the best, the only leap month as well. Shout out to all my February babies, this burden of awesomeness we carry is really not good for our shoulders and backs lmfao.

Alright, moving on. January, what can I say about January. Oh, I know. How about it sucked because I was sick. I literally abhor getting sick the first month of the new year, it does not bode well and I'm not one who usually gets sick. Like once a year really so that better had been my once a year. Fucking throat felt like - ... I have been told not to finish that sentence.

Superstition

Nothing new to report. I wasn't able to finish what I wanted because I was sick and I made a mental promise that after that week (then I got sick), focus would be moved to Nour. That's what I did.

Throne of Ashes

Like I said, focus was given to Nour. I finished up some Chapter Six shenanigans then started on Chapter Seven which shouldn't take a month to complete. So this month should see the completion of 7 and a nice little start on 8.

Sea of Stars

Nothing new to report. But I won't lie, people keep talking about it and it's making me want to give some of my attention to it so if you see some random update about it then you know why.

Others

Nothing new on RoA. I have two public requests to write that I need to keep in my mind (I haven't forgotten you guys just need to get int he headspace, especially for the NSFW one).

❗️ The Japanese BL I Became the Lead in a BL Drama is getting a sequel. The title as well as a premiere date have not been announced.

i can't do an april wrap-up/monthly book recommendation post because i only finished one book in april, and it was a short story(🥴)

april was a month of travelling, of exploring, and of heartbreak (having to reject an offer from oxford because i can't afford relocating rn is going to haunt me for the rest of my life). reading, for the first time in a long time, hasn't been a priority for me, and that feels really good??

monthly update post time woo!

It’s October, which means the seasonal depression that I thought i was escaping moving out of Michigan is coming to laugh at my foolishness. Unfortunately the winter blues still happen in states without a real winter. I’m sure you can imagine my surprise!

So, I wanted to talk about progress. We talk a lot in mental health spaces about how “progress isn’t linear” and it’s important to give yourself grace for the moments when things aren’t progressing as fast as you want them to.

Im pretty good about it with mental health. But, I struggle more with it when it comes to my size. One of the reasons i stopped tracking my weight on a daily basis was that I was finding myself despairing when the number didn’t change how i wanted it to. I’m at a set point right now, and have been for probably the last year — I’ve shot up to *almost* 300 for very brief moments, but 285 is just where my body wants to hang out right now. And yeah — it makes me sad, sometimes.

I could probably fill a whole page about why I can’t eat as much as I want to and all that jazz, but the real truth of it is that when I’m focused on the number, instead of the body that I love, I just don’t have as much fun.

Anyway, that’s all to say that it’s okay to take breaks, to rest, to not push yourself constantly. Gaining weight can be hard, sometimes just as hard as losing it. The important thing is to love yourself as you are now & focus on things that bring you joy.

So, my brain has been really scattered this last month. I’ve had a bunch of editing to do on my prose manuscript (Of Monsters and Mainframes, coming out next year) and I’ve also just had a ton of real life stuff pop up unexpectedly. So, the update this month is only 12k. Which, I’m not going to lie, is a little sucky. I thought I’d got more done than that. However, I’m still happy with the progress I made.

I’ve got Chapter 10 to a tentative first draft (I may do more work on it later, but for now it’s locked), I made some big strides with Chapter 11, AND I got really excited about Chapter 12 and started laying down some words for that. Please let me know what you think.

This game is a big muddle right now and a lot of the scenes I’m adding will only be visible on a few playthroughs which makes progress feel really slow. However, I’m really hoping that’ll make the final game really dynamic and fun.

I hope you get to pop out and see the full moon tonight. It’s the second largest of the year and is looking wonderful.

TRIGUN ULTIMATE OVERHAUL SEPTEMBER 2024 UPDATE

OVERHAUL UPDATE 09/06/24 - Getting back to Japanese releases and more.

Hey there, everyone, and welcome to another monthly update!

This one is going to be short, as there aren't a lot of news this time around. We continue to work through some of the burn-out, and have ensured to adjust our schedule to accommodate for the rocky work motivation. It is still uncertain if we'll be able to manage a schedule yet, but for now we have agreed on an initial plan.

Next Japanese volume release will be November 4th!

And then we'll attempt to try and adhere to a two month gap between releases.

In addition to our Japanese releases, we'll be doing a little bit of extra content. With the upcoming release of the Trigun Deluxe editions, we'll be looking through them to add commentary to any potential changes to the translation. If there are no changes, then we'll simply provide a short review of each release for those who are on the fence about buying them.

If there are anything specific you'd like for us to look out for in the new releases, please let us know in the comments.
