At the turn of the century, there was no bigger drama queen -- or, perhaps in this case, drama monarch -- attending Hogwarts school than Slytherin house's own troublemaking charmer and dynamic Quidditch commentator, Jackson Knightly. Unlike his dormmates Sebastian Sallow and Ominis Gaunt, Jackson had always been prone to being very flamboyant in expressing his feelings -- he would compliment people he liked profusely, he would sass the hell out of anyone who insulted him with a broad grin, and he would give flowers to just about any girl he met that looked like they needed some cheering up. It was quite frankly unsurprising that most of Jackson's closest companions ended up being those who could successfully rein him in -- most notably, his first and closest friend in the world, Adelia Selwyn; his aforementioned and much more level-headed dormmate Ominis Gaunt; and the brilliant Ravenclaw who would eventually become Jackson's husband, Montelimar "Monty" Bloom.
If one thought Jackson was prone to drama in his younger years, it was nothing compared to when he was in denial about the extent of his feelings for Monty. At one point the sixth-year Slytherin was so upset that Ominis had to recruit his crush Gryffindor Beater Io Gordon to fly up on her broom so she could help him retrieve an incredibly drunk adder from a high branch on the tree next to the Black Lake. (An incredibly drunk illegal adder Animagus, for the record.)
"Merlin's beard," Ominis swore at Jackson in Parseltongue as he carried the adder back to school on his shoulder, "how did you even navigate your way up there in the first place? You look like you can hardly see straight, let alone slither anywhere!"
"Aw, don't be sssssilly, Gaunt, old boy," Jackson hissed cheerfully, giving something of a cheerful hiccup through his fangs. "I t'wasn't doing nothing -- just ccccelebrating with some firewhiskey for Bloom, thass'all...making a wedding toast or two for 'im..."
Ominis wanted to facepalm. "Wedding? For goodness' sake, Knightly -- "
"They make a lovely couple, don't they?" Jackson hissed more loudly than ever, his voice more of a dementedly happy shriek now. "Bloom and Miss Oakessss -- ssssuch a lovely pair -- more than sssssuitable for proper wizarding sssssociety, ssssuch a pretty, bright couple -- "
"Knightly, they were assigned partners for a Charms project, not bloody betrothed," Ominis said exasperatedly. "Stop being so overdramatic."
"I am NOT being overdramatic!" Jackson snapped abruptly out of nowhere.
The adder then flopped down almost comically on Ominis's shoulder, his angry retort flipping over into a way-too-loud miserable moan on a dime.
"'M sssssorry, Gaunt -- hic -- I didn't mean to yell at you...it'ssss just not FAIR...we alwaysssss got to pick partnerssss in Charms, and I don't wanna be with Clopton, he's an abssssolute flapdoodle -- I wanna be with Bloom, I wanted to work with Bloom -- he's my Frenchman, my brilliant Ffffrenchman..."
The snake Animagus trailed off into more hissing, incoherent mumbles under his breath. Ominis brought a hand up to his face, massaging his temple with his fingers.
"You are hopeless," he muttered sourly. With a sigh, he said, "Come on -- I'm taking you to the Prefect's Bathroom and getting you cleaned up."
Maybe dunking his stupid head under some cold water a couple dozen times would help sober this idiot up.

Monty: Orla, please keep an eye on Jackson today. He's going to say something dumb and get himself punched.
Orla: Sure, I'd love to see Jackson get punched.
Monty: Try again..
Orla, sighing: I will stop Jackson from getting punched

Aesop Sharp was not a man completely devoid of patience. One truly couldn’t hope to teach anyone -- or even to stay sane, dealing with students like Garreth Weasley on the regular -- if they didn’t have a little of it. But when it came to dealing with fifth year Slytherin Jackson Knightly, Sharp found himself incredibly frustrated.
Jackson had been a late arrival to Potions class when he arrived at Hogwarts for his second year, just like one of Sharp’s personal favorite students, fellow Slytherin Adelia Selwyn. Unlike his best friend, though, Jackson was not at all attuned to Potions. Not only was he enough of a troublemaker that he was perfectly willing to smuggle ingredients to the likes of Garreth Weasley on a whim, he very frequently neglected to take brews off the fire before they exploded or forgot crucial steps in the middle of brewing. Sharp would frequently remind Jackson to stop daydreaming in class (which he was very prone to do), but rather than it snapping the boy back to any sort of attention or making him reflect on doing better, he would almost inevitably lose focus again, not long after Sharp moved on. And the last thing Aesop Sharp wanted to be was a bloody nanny.
When Sharp spoke to his colleague and Slytherin’s Head of House, Abraham Ronen, about his frustrations, Ronen merely laughed.
“Ah, Aesop,” he said jovially, “you have not taught students as long as I have. Young Jackson’s behavior is truly nothing out of the ordinary. Many a student has found themselves more able to focus on those things they have personal investment in over those things that don’t spark their imagination. I would think a fellow Slytherin alumnus such as yourself would be very attuned to that.”
“I am already very well aware of how much Mr. Knightly prefers your teaching style to mine,” said Sharp very coolly. “He is definitely your kind of student. But I am not about to start playing Gobstones with bottles of Shrinking Solution just to try to earn a single student’s favor -- and Mr. Knightly should learn to see the value in all of his classes, however lacking of entertainment he may find them to be.”
Ronen gave Sharp a pat to the shoulder. “Of course. It behooves him, and all of our students, to learn how to work well with a wide array of people. But you know, even we professors need to re-learn that too, once in a while...sometimes through students we find challenging to teach.”
A flicker of amusement seemed to dance in the older man’s eye.
“You say Jackson is my kind of student -- and yes, for certain he is. Talented, amiable, excitable, curious...incredibly witty, and yet surprisingly sensitive -- I’d say Eleazar and Madam Kogawa are just as fond of the boy as I am, and they’re not even his Head of House! But truly, I think you might find Jackson’s a very promising student in his own way...perhaps even in your class. Why, if even Atticus Grimsley can find it in his heart to like Jackson as a student, despite all the trouble he gets up to outside of class, surely you could.”
Sharp was skeptical of this thought process until the day following the invigorating Quidditch match between Ravenclaw and Gryffindor that spring. The Potionsmaster himself had not been present at the Pitch -- he’d had much more pressing matters to research in the Hogwarts library -- but he heard the school matron, Noreen Blainey, complaining to Ronen about it the following morning at breakfast.
“ -- poor boy got that hexed Bludger straight to the face, Professor! It broke his nose in five places! And yet he’s absolutely refused to come to me for treatment!”
“Jackson seems to be doing better now, Madam,” Ronen tried to soothe her, but she wasn’t having any of it.
“Only because he’s off brewing his own Wiggenweld Potions to mask the damage! He barely avoided getting knocked unconscious! That damage undoubtedly went below the surface. And yet somehow Mr. Knightly managed to slip right out from under everyone in the stands before they could send him to me, polished himself up, and now he’s cheerfully acting like he’s fine, despite barely being able to see straight!”
Ronen frowned. “Hm...perhaps I can convince Jackson to get a full physical exam. I’m certain if we emphasize our concern for his well-being -- ”
“Concern!” scoffed the nurse. “Unlikely! That boy wouldn’t even come to me for help when he got burned by Streeler venom, Professor. He’s almost as stubborn as Aesop Sharp, when it comes to accepting professional Healing advice...”
Sharp couldn’t help but cock his eyebrows very coolly at that, but ultimately chose not to join the conversation. It had made some gears turn in his head as it was, so he decided to dwell on the matter alone over breakfast.
Jackson Knightly brewing his own Wiggenweld Potions? Now that seemed thoroughly unlikely. Knightly had never been so competent to brew a potion he could safely ingest without proper oversight. It had to have been Miss Selwyn who helped him with it -- or perhaps Montelimar Bloom: the Ravenclaw did have a tendency to come to Jackson’s rescue, when he was in trouble. Even Bloom’s best friend Orla Atkinson was well known at being talented with healing magic...
Sharp’s eyes flitted over to the Slytherin table absently. He could see Adelia Selwyn and Jackson’s dormmates, Ominis Gaunt and Sebastian Sallow, sitting there -- even Gryffindor’s Beater, Io Gordon, had apparently left her own table to go over and talk to Adelia -- but no Jackson Knightly...
His left eyebrow raising with interest, Sharp sidled to his feet carefully, before trudging out of the Great Hall and back toward the stairs leading down to the dungeons.
Blasted leg, Sharp cursed inwardly. His lack of agility would never not irritate the ex-Auror -- he would’ve loved it if he could just Apparate up and down to different floors without climbing so many damned stairs, but the magic within the school’s walls was far too powerful to allow for that.
Eventually, though, Sharp did make it back to his classroom -- and as soon as he arrived, his sharp ears immediately perked up when he picked out the distinctive sound of something bubbling in a cauldron.
Well, that could easily end in disaster, being attempted by the wrong student.
The image of Garreth Weasley blowing up his third potion that month rippled over Sharp’s mind.
Reflecting back on his old stealth training, the ex-Auror sidled into the classroom as quietly as he possibly could with his clunky leg, easing the door open so carefully that it didn’t give the slightest creak. When his eyes landed on the workstation being used, however, Sharp was a bit startled by what he found.
It was indeed Jackson Knightly. But rather than being in the company of someone helping him, he was working completely on his own, his back to Sharp as he counted out three -- four -- five lionfish spines, and then dropped them one by one into the cauldron. He kept glancing at the potion off-and-on, humming something absently, as he poured himself a cup of tea from a nearby teapot and mixed in some sugar. Once the potion had turned yellow, he tossed in five more spines, as well as some flobberworm mucus. Then Jackson sipped his tea, still humming absently, as he watched the potion turn purple.
Sharp stood in the door frame, his arms crossed, as he silently watched Jackson work. The Slytherin was in his own little world during the entire process -- eating toast, drinking tea, and even reading out of a tiny book that couldn’t possibly be for Potions while waiting for certain reactions to take place -- but he still did every step perfectly, all seemingly from memory. There were definitely points, though, where Jackson had to pause in the middle, close his eyes, and massage his temple as he took deep breaths -- clearly his head was still hurting him.
Sharp didn’t make himself known until Jackson took the potion off the fire at last. Once the potion had started to cool, he actually brought his hands together in a slow clap.
Jackson looked up, startled, as Sharp approached.
“A perfectly brewed Wiggenweld Potion,” said the Potionsmaster.
Despite being taken aback by his sudden audience, Jackson very quickly put on a big grin and gave a sweeping bow.
“To earn a ‘perfect’ assessment from you is high praise indeed, Master Sharp,” the fifteen-year-old said with a dashing smirk.
“Indeed,” Sharp said airily. “I would hardly have believed it of you, if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes.”
The professor’s brows were raised high over his eyes as he considered Jackson a bit more carefully. There wasn’t any cosmetic damage to his face -- but true to what the school matron had said, Jackson’s blue eyes looked slightly unfocused and lacking of light. That lack of consciousness was something Sharp recognized immediately as indicative of a mild head injury.
“...You should take a seat,” Sharp said lowly. “Ingesting anything is best done in a seated position.”
Jackson gave a laugh. “Not when one is drinking one of these on the Dueling Field! My dear Lala -- Orla Atkinson, you know -- she gets competitive enough as it is. If I took the time to sit down and have fairy cakes with my potions, I reckon I’d have to ingest even more of both, once she was done with me!”
The brown-haired boy acted as flippant as ever as he wandered around the table to fetch his teacup. He played off the slight stumble in his step, as well as the slight clumsiness to his settling himself down on the edge of his workstation. Carefully ladling some of his finished potion out of his cauldron and into his half-finished tea, he then gave a long sip from the cup, exhaling lowly as he lowered the ladle and rubbed his temple. Then he plastered a smile back on as he addressed Sharp.
“Would you care for some tea yourself, Professor?” asked Jackson politely. “I borrowed the recipe from my sweetest little unicorn, Miss Devonshire, and it really is sublime...”
“No, thank you,” said Sharp.
“Oh, come now!” Jackson egged him on. “It’s still early morning -- I would think a cup of masala chai would be a good way to start the day off right.”
Sharp cocked an eyebrow. “Perhaps it would -- if it were being enjoyed in the Great Hall, with the rest of one’s breakfast. But you seem to have neglected that.”
Jackson shrugged.
“Wasn’t feeling quite my best,” he said offhandedly. “But no matter -- I’ll be feeling right as rain, with a bit more of this -- ”
He ladled some more of the Wiggenweld Potion into his teacup. Sharp’s lips knit together.
“It might take a stronger potion than that to deal with the aftermaths of a concussion, young man.”
Jackson’s smile flickered ever-so-slightly as Sharp sidled clumsily across the room over to his desk.
“Oh, it -- it’s not nearly as bad as all that,” said Jackson, trying to keep the smile on despite how weak it suddenly seemed. He put down his teacup on the tray at his workstation. “I’ve dealt with far worse than this. Broken bones, glass embedded in my feet, Streeler venom...even got thrown head-first into a stone wall once, and I’m still standing! Dare I say, perhaps better than ever!”
His mouth spread into a brighter white smile. The Slytherin boy’s voice strangely didn’t come across as arrogant or blustering, however -- instead, it seemed almost reassuring: as if he wanted to comfort his professor so he wouldn’t worry.
Sharp, however, was blunt in his response.
“You may dispense with the pretenses, Knightly -- you’re not as good of an actor as you think you are.”
Jackson actually couldn’t help but pout at this.
“Bad form, sir,” he said rather coolly. “Insult my potionmaking, by all means, but to insult my performance ability overall? That is supremely ungentlemanly.”
Sharp actually couldn’t bite back a small smirk of his own. “I have been called worse things.”
Once he eased himself down in his chair, Sharp rested his hands on his desk, clasping them together as he regarded Jackson with a more serious expression.
“...You seem to know this particular brew quite well, to recall all of the steps from memory.”
The professor’s eyes flitted down to the book left open at Jackson’s station. As he’d thought, it wasn’t a book of Potions notes -- it instead seemed to be a book of poetry, judging by the few words he could make out upside down.
Jackson gave another shrug and offhand smile. “Well, as they say, practice makes perfect.”
“Indeed -- for you to brew it so well, it’s clear you’ve practiced quite frequently. Undoubtedly out of a necessity for it.”
Jackson’s dashing white smile became a bit cheekier. “What can I say? Trouble is a friend I run into quite often.”
“I’m well aware,” said Sharp coolly.
He paused. Then, after a moment, he said stridently,
“For the injury you’ve sustained, however, I do not think a Wiggenweld Potion alone would heal the damage.”
Jackson opened his mouth as if to speak, but Sharp cut him off.
“And since it’s rather obvious that you don’t wish a Healer’s input on what treatment would be suitable...allow me to, at the very least, give you some advice on what potion would be a better solution.”
The Potions professor eased himself up and out of his chair, awkwardly stomping over to his own station at the head of the class.
“Follow me,” he said brusquely.
Startled, Jackson got to his feet. He was frozen for only a moment, before he’d hurriedly rushed over to walk right alongside Sharp like a shadow. When Sharp reached his station, Jackson’s focus was abruptly drawn to the other side of the room.
“Your attention, please, Kn -- ”
Before Sharp could finish, though, Jackson had flung out his hand, and in an instant, the closest stool had glided across the room and into his open hands.
Sharp’s mouth was left slightly open, as Jackson brought the stool right up behind his professor with a smile.
“Here, sir,” he said, his charming face betraying some genuine kindness. “Allow me.”
Sharp stared down at the fifteen-year-old boy. Then he very quickly cleared his throat.
“...Ahem -- yes. Thank you.”
He sat down on the stool. Jackson then summoned one wandlessly for himself and positioned it next to Sharp’s.
“How long have you been able to summon things without a wand?” asked Sharp.
Jackson smiled brightly. “Quite a while, actually -- since I was ten, at least. Maybe even nine. I was right on the cusp when I first learned I had magic, you see. I’m not quite as good at wandless Charms as I am with Transfiguration, though -- conjuring flowers and doves is what I did most, in those days...”
Sharp’s eyebrows were rather high as he took this in.
“I know it can be kind of dangerous, to not use a wand to channel your magic,” Jackson said amiably. “Professor Weasley’s warned me of that, a few times, what with the risk of becoming an Obscurus and all. But...well, I was solely among Muggles, back then. Didn’t exactly have the means to go out and buy myself a proper wand, let alone any spellbooks. Truth be told, I....didn’t even own a wand until I returned to Britain, in time for my second year at Hogwarts. And truly, I am very fond of my wand -- she’s a most lovely thing. I just sometimes fall back on old habits.”
Wandless magic at only nine years old? Not only that, but wandless conjuration -- one of the most difficult branches of Transfiguration, largely set aside for students approaching the NEWT level? Despite himself, Sharp was actually rather impressed.
“...Hm. Well...if you can muster up the proper attention span, you could always speak to Professor Onai about such things. Uagadou is well known for teaching its students the art of wandless magic.”
Sharp turned to his station.
“Now, then -- watch closely. This brew is called the Syrup of Asphodel. It’s actually rather simple in its ingredients, but you will have to grind the asphodel root down to a fine powder and mix everything in just the right order, for it to be effective...”
Sharp stopped talking and set to work straight away. In the beginning, he could sense Jackson watching him -- before long, though, the boy once again seemed to drift off, his eyes gliding away toward the far corner of the room.
“Pay attention, Knightly,” said Sharp. “I don’t intend to demonstrate this twice.”
“My apologies, sir,” said Jackson.
Despite this, though, his blue eyes once again were drawn to the unfinished tea service at his station.
“...Sir?”
“What is it?”
“Are you quite sure you wouldn’t like a cup of tea? I should think the potionmaking process would be a lot more enjoyable, if one partook in some tea in the midst of it...”
“I’m in no need of distractions, Mr. Knightly,” said Sharp airily, “and truthfully, neither are you. You get distracted enough in my class without adding a pot of tea to the mix.”
Jackson frowned slightly.
“Perhaps...” he granted. “But you said yourself that I brewed a perfect Wiggenweld Potion, while I was indulging in just such a cup of tea. And reading some lovely poems, for that matter.”
Sharp paused in his work to glance at Jackson out the side of his eye. The fifteen-year-old had taken out his wand and used it to levitate the tea service a bit more gently over to a table closer by.
“Forgive my impertinence, Professor,” said the Slytherin teenager as he got up and started fussing with his tea set, while still glancing over his shoulder toward Sharp at his station, “but for me, such ‘distractions’ as you call them are not a hindrance. My mind is prone to wander, as you know -- ”
Sharp gave a low, amused snort at the gross understatement.
“ -- but one thing that prevents that, for me, is constant action,” Jackson pressed on, unabashed. “Channeling my energy into physical activity -- even if it’s simply indulging in a cup of tea or parsing through works of Edgar Allan Poe -- ”
He summoned the book of poetry over to him with another wave of his wand, opening it to a certain page and perusing it before he returned his focus to Sharp’s station again.
“ -- I suppose it anchors me in the here and now, as it were. It gives me a reason to stay here, on the ground -- multiple reasons, in fact, all of which interest me. Whereas such austere silence -- complete stillness and undivided focus...it makes my mind restless. Like a dog being asked to walk around on two legs. It feels unnatural -- makes me prone to twitch about, just to try to get comfortable. And sooner or later, whoosh -- off I go toward a more exciting daydream, and all focus is gone.”
Massaging his sore temple a bit more with one hand, Jackson nonetheless beamed over his shoulder at Sharp.
“I confess -- it saddens me greatly that I lose my focus so easily in your class. You do so seem to love your subject.”
“How kind,” Sharp said coolly. With a tired sigh, he said, “Very well. I shall continue my work on this potion, while you do whatever you feel you must, to stay engaged. But as I said, I have no intention of demonstrating this twice -- so if your method of ‘anchoring’ yourself proves ineffective in helping you internalize my lesson, then that’s solely on your own head.”
Jackson grinned. “Understood, sir.”
And so Sharp continued brewing his potion. As he did, he could once again feel Jackson’s eyes on him, though rather intermittently, since the boy was also rifling through the book of poems, cleaning out spare potion bottles with his wand, and brewing a fresh pot of tea as he watched. At some points, Jackson even asked questions -- good ones, to Sharp’s surprise.
“When doubling such a recipe, would one simply double the ingredients, or just the amount of salt water? If one considers the potential for asphodel poisoning.”
“You would add a pinch more root for every three drops of salt water,” Sharp answered.
“And the best way to safely amplify the potion’s effects?”
“Add a half cup of dittany. It’s a resilient enough plant to not curdle in the face of asphodel when mixed in, and yet it’s soothing enough to not actively conflict with its effects.”
Jackson looked thoughtful. “Hm...would a pinch of ginger not conflict? Ginger’s supposed to be good for one’s digestion -- it might help make the tonic a bit more palatable.”
Sharp glanced back at Jackson over his shoulder with some interest.
“...Not a bad suggestion,” he said.
After a few minutes, Sharp finished off the potion and began to empty the contents of his cauldron into a vial. As he did, Jackson dropped off the second of the cups of tea he’d poured out down on Sharp's desk, not far away from the station he was working at.
“Here you are, sir,” he said politely.
“And there you are,” Sharp said crisply. With the potion vial full, he held it out for Jackson to take. “Syrup of Asphodel -- made up of nothing but salt water and, as one can expect, powdered root of asphodel. Do you remember how many drops of salt water one requires?”
“Three per dosage,” Jackson said promptly.
“And how many times did I stir this potion?” asked Sharp, as he lumbered back over to his desk.
Jackson considered this. He seemed to be counting in his own head.
“Let’s see...once when I sat down, twice before I lost focus -- three when I did. Four after I summoned the tray -- five, six...seven when I reread Lenore -- eight, nine...nine, yes, I believe it was nine?”
“Correct,” said Sharp. He placed his hand down on the desk so as to ease himself down into his chair. “Clockwise or counterclockwise?”
Jackson’s eyes drifted up toward the ceiling thoughtfully. “...All clockwise except for the first and last two.”
“Very good,” said Sharp, and indeed, he did sound rather pleased. “It seems there truly is a method to get you to pay attention to my lessons.”
Jackson grinned that bit more mischievously. “Glad to hear you’ll be more indulgent of me inviting my friend Lord Byron to class with me in the future, Professor!”
“Don’t push your luck,” Sharp said airily. “I’m still not thoroughly convinced this wasn’t some sort of practical joke on your part.”
His impish grin spreading that bit more, Jackson brought the vial up to his lips and downed its contents. Within seconds, he shuddered, but the breath he exhaled was full to the brim with relief and relaxation.
“...Ahhh...” he sighed happily as he brought a hand up to his forehead. “Oh, that does feel better...”
Sharp nodded in satisfaction. “Good to hear it.”
Jackson washed the potion down with the rest of his tea before turning to Sharp with a visibly more relaxed smile.
“Thank you for your time, sir,” he said. “And your lesson -- they’re both greatly appreciated.”
“You’re welcome,” said Sharp. “Now don’t you have some other lessons to get to? One thing I’ve learned is that however poor one’s health may be, one can’t easily justify not going to class, if he intends to not rest in the Hospital Wing.”
Jackson laughed. “No, I jolly well suppose not.”
Sharp indicated the door with a nod of his head. “Off you go, then.”
As Jackson made as if to go, though, he paused in the door frame and looked back with an odd, almost compassionate expression.
“...Sir, I really think you should try the chai,” he said gently. “Miss Devonshire recommended it to me for pain relief. Muggle remedy it might be...I would think it still might soothe some of the pain in your leg.”
Sharp paused. His dark eyes flitted down to the cup of tea in front of him to back up at the kindly boy in his door frame.
Then, very slowly, the Potions professor’s gaze seemed to lose some of its edge. It made his features look much less critical than before, though no less discerning.
“...Mm. I see.”
Sharp gave Jackson a muted incline of his head.
“...Thank you.”
Jackson’s face spread into a bright, charming white grin as he swept out of the room and back up the stairs at a run. Sharp himself also found himself smirking ever-so-slightly once he’d disappeared from view.
Jackson Knightly was certainly not his type of student -- but, Sharp had to admit as he picked up the cup of masala chai and silently enjoyed the soothing scent and taste of the brew -- he was a promising one, all the same. So long as he actually applied himself properly.

😏 Those two are absolutely the type to say a million things with just a simple touch. Especially if they’re given enough privacy that they can hold hands without worrying about Victorian and/or conservative Pureblood sensibilities.

(Outdated) Hogwarts Legacy MC: Daniel Roy “Danny” Gibson
Hello everyone, it’s Cato! I worked all throughout the past week on the profile for my new Harry Potter: Hogwarts Legacy MC, Daniel! You can call him Danny! I did my best to flesh him out as much as I could, so I hope you all enjoy and have fun reading this as much as I did writing it! I’d like to thank my amazing friends @hphm-rhia and @nightrhea-hphm for their great help coming up with ideas and supporting me as I put this together! I can never be more grateful!
The amazing drawing of Danny below was done by the awesome @nightrhea-hphm! (Again, thank you so much!)

THE MAGE
Wand: 11 3/4â€Č’, Cedar, Unicorn hair, Solid
Whenever I meet one who carries a cedar wand, I find strength of character and unusual loyalty. My father, Gervaise Ollivander, used always to say, ‘you will never fool the cedar carrier,’ and I agree: the cedar wand finds its perfect home where there is perspicacity and perception. I would go further than my father, however, in saying that I have never yet met the owner of a cedar wand whom I would care to cross, especially if harm is done to those of whom they are fond. The witch or wizard who is well-matched with cedar carries the potential to be a frightening adversary, which often comes as a shock to those who have thoughtlessly challenged them.

Patronus Memory:
As a result of having a very rough early childhood facing abuse from his father and having to be the man of the house, Danny had very little free time. He didn’t socialize much with other kids his age as he and his brother found some of them weird with their boasts about being pure-blood. As such, he doesn’t have many significant happy memories until he enters Hogwarts. Before this, the best Danny had was spending his free time playing with his brother in the woods around their home in West Virginia.
Mirror of Erised:
Younger: His father is still a normal, healthy man as he was when he first became a Unspeakable. Phil is a sweet, funny and caring dad who likes to tell Daniel and his brother all about the cool stuff he works on at the Department of Mysteries. The family lives together and happy without any cares.
Older: Daniel and his brother are together as students at Hogwarts. He doesn’t mind if they were in different houses; he just wants to be able to be close to him and help him out if he gets into any trouble. They run up to each other and immediately get into a big bear hug, both in tears and expressing how much they missed each other, and that they will never leave each other’s side again.

RELATIONSHIPS
Brother: Casey Wendell Gibson
He is two years younger than Danny who is very protective of him. When their father became more abusive, Casey was beaten more often, and his older brother often had to step in to shield him, taking blows that were meant for the younger boy. He was adopted by an American family after Rue divorced her husband because she was only capable of raising one child on her own. Casey as a result went to Ilvermorny while Daniel studied at Hogwarts, living in England with Rue. Even though nothing could done about it, Danny still was very worried for Casey, as he went to a school with a very different culture, rules, faculty and group of friends. Their relationship grew more distant even though they never meant it, and this caused much stress for both brothers.
Misc Siblings: TBD
Father: John Philip “Phil” Gibson
An Unspeakable working for the MACUSA’s Department of Mysteries, Phil was originally a healthy, normal man when he started working there. However, the bizarre nature of the research he helped conduct fueled a hot temper that was aggravated by an increased consumption of alcohol in order to cope with the burdening stress of work. His mental health gradually worsened which led to a deteriorated relationship with his family. This was marked by Phil becoming more abusive toward his wife and two sons. Danny took the responsibility of becoming the man of the house as there were many times Phil mysteriously disappeared, only returning home without any explanation and never shedding any light on why since he was drunk. He frequently argued with and yelled at his wife, and beat his sons for the smallest mistakes, Many times Danny had to take his heat in order to protect his little brother Casey, who was more beaten more often by Phil. When his wife and children left the home, Phil lived alone, continuing his work as an Unspeakable. He eventually snapped and murdered one of his colleagues on the job, being sentenced to death for his crime. Phil passed out and died in his cell while awaiting execution.
Mother: Prudence Charlotte “Rue” Gibson (neĂ© Goldfleece)
Prudence, more commonly known as “Rue,” was a diligent and hardworking lady born in Britain who lived in America; both of her parents were British. She was a Gryffindor in Hogwarts who almost ended up in Hufflepuff. Rue was a homemaker and potioneer who never favored either of her sons and treated them equally. She became more involved in the temperance movement after she became suspicious that her husband’s drinking problem was causing him to be more abusive and put strain on the family. Rue solely blamed this on Phil’s habits because she had no idea he was an Unspeakable; they were strictly forbidden from disclosing details about their work, even to their own family. She wanted to divorce with Phil, however it moved along very slowly because he was out of the house most of the time, and when he was home, he was intoxicated or otherwise unresponsive when Rue tried to progress with the divorce. After they split up, Rue moved with Danny back to England, while her younger son was adopted by an American family because she could only handle raising one child on her own. Rue chose to move to England as she felt the country would be a better and safer environment for her son to grow up in as he made it through his education at Hogwarts.

BACKGROUND/HISTORY
Pre Hogwarts:
Daniel Roy “Danny” Gibson was born on March 15, 1878 to John and Prudence Gibson. His brother Casey came almost two years later on Feburary 13, 1880. They were very close and spent more time with each other than with the neighbors, even before their dad “Phil” went haywire. Growing up in the mountains of West Virginia, the boys were always in touch with nature and preferred the peace and quiet of the woods rather than the company of the other kids, who for some reason they saw as “rather rowdy and too wild” for their own good. Something about how they all boasted they were pure-bloods and better than the “no-good No-majs.” They seemed to be obsessed about it and talked of nothing but that, while Danny and Casey wisely stayed out of their banter.
When Danny was around 8 years old, his father for some reason became less of the cheerful, funny dad he used to be, and more of a brute. He only got more worse, and the shouts and yells turned into whiplashes and beatings. Phil started drinking more and his two sons found themselves always facing his wrath even when they never did anything to upset him. Danny started taking blows meant for his younger brother in order to protect Casey, and their mother “Rue” got more on Phil’s case. They argued when he was sober, and he always denied harming the kids, even though Rue many times caught him drunk and laying about when he was supposed to be helping out. After many times trying to get to Phil, Rue made her oldest Danny the new man of the house, and started proceedings to divorce with Phil.
Meanwhile, Danny kept busy with housework a fully adult human would’ve been more capable of handling. The heavy lifting, repairs and other grown-up chores were very intensive and back-breaking for the poor boy. Not only that, he also had to help Rue look after Casey and shield him from Phil’s attacks. Danny continued to find sanctuary with his brother in the mountain woods when he wasn’t busy around the house or dealing with his abusive father. Their mum was making very little progress with Phil; he always seemed uncooperative and his speech was full of unintelligible slurs. She suspected her husband’s drinking was the culprit and became involved in temperance marches and rallies to ban the brewing and sale of alcohol.
Phil’s beatings only got worse, and his rambles were not showing any signs of slowing down. The divorce took two years to finalize, with the last straw being a little showdown between Phil and Danny. The boy caught his dad again beating his little brother as usual, but this time it was much more severe. Daniel had finally had it putting up with his dad’s abuse. He grabbed a skillet and got Phil’s attention away from Casey. Extensive drinking, overwhelming work and burnout from beating his sons had done their toll on Phil’s body, leaving him a weak fighter. The brawl ended with him knocked out cold. Danny surely had thought he had killed Phil, only until Casey proved that the father was still breathing and alive. By the time he woke up, he was all alone. Rue and her two sons were gone, and she was more than happy to no longer be married to Phil.
Knowing she could only handle raising one child on her own, Rue very reluctantly allowed a family she knew she could trust to adopt Casey. She and Danny then boarded a big steamship bound for England. She felt that her son would have a better and happier late childhood living a country with less strict laws then America, as at the time, the Rappaport’s Law still dominated all aspects of life there. The potential low diversity of children Danny’s age as a result of wizard-muggle relationships being outlawed, and the requirement to be a certain age (17) plus owning permit to have a wand outside of school were major influences on Rue’s choice. She was concerned that if her son stayed in America, he’d eventually be killed, without a means to defend himself. This possibility was also reinforced by the strong negative stigma No-majs at the time had against wizards - they were very hostile to them and things often turned violent when the two groups interacted.
Mother and son moved into their new home in the town of Exeter within the county of Devon, England in November 1888. Most of Rue’s relatives lived in Great Britain, their manor being in neighboring Somerset. With Danny going to Hogwarts the following year, they helped he and Rue adjust to their new surroundings and purchase supplies at Diagon Alley for school. Danny got his acceptance letter following his eleventh birthday. On August 31, 1889, he and his mum took a muggle steam train to London. He caught the Hogwarts Express right on time at King’s Cross after spending the night at a local inn. Consumed by both tears and happiness, Rue waved goodbye to her son as the train got underway, Danny bound to begin his first year.
1st Year: TBD
2nd Year:
Danny exchanges letters with his mum over the year about a new baby she is having. Eventually, she tells him he has a sister. He was excited to meet her once he returns home from Hogwarts over the summer.

PERSONALITY
Danny at first appears to be a serious, stern individual who seems uninterested and apathetic in the affairs of others, not someone you’d enjoy hanging out with. However in reality, he is a rather reserved and guarded boy who has trouble interacting with others and forming bonds because of his childhood abuse and trauma and having to be the main one to support his family at such a young age. Danny shields his emotions and memories behind his demeanor, which may at times seem cold, when really, it is not.
Once you earn his trust, you find out that Danny is at heart, a sweet and gentle soul who cares deeply about his friends. He keeps a group of close friends that he’d give his life to protect, and slowly opens up as he matures. Daniel discovers many new hobbies along the way, such as a love for nature and magical creatures, which is where his soft and caring side shines outside the company of his friends.
At times though, even in the company of his friends, Danny is quiet, and cries a lot sometimes in private, hesitant to speak about what bothers him. He really misses his brother since he had to stay in America and attend Ilvermorny on his own. He worries about him a lot, even though there is nothing Danny can do, nor can his mother (Owls can’t fly across the Atlantic.). After much persistence by his friends and a howler from his mom, he finally confides to them that he really misses his brother.
He is fiercely loyal and protective of those he cares about, and worries about how well he is good in a fight due to how many times he has had to take blows from his father trying to protect his little brother. Danny is proficient at dueling, but he eventually also came to have a good grasp of physical combat thanks to his rough childhood.
Daniel has a strong sense of justice and is against any form of alcohol and other controlled substances, both wizarding and magical due his father’s drinking and his mother’s teachings, her being involved in the temperance movement. Although he is pure-blood and inside, proud of it, he does not stand for any kind of racial injustice against muggle-borns and other minorities such as werewolves and squibs. Due to his imposing physique and serious demeanor, Daniel can at times seem scary and rude when he doesn’t mean it, driving off other people even though there is nothing wrong with him, nor did he do anything bad.
Being the man of the house due to the incompetence of his father, Daniel grew to be rather intelligent and perceptive as he learned the skills necessary to effectively look after the household and his little brother. Although he never really had much experiences to become adept socially early on, being too busy taking care of family to spend time with kids his age, Danny in fact became more compassionate and empathetic, as his experiences dealing with his bad father and the strain it put on him, Casey and his mother allowed him to relate to people who underwent similar hardships in their lives.
MISC
His grandfather, Reginald Gibson was a pioneer on the Oregon Trail during the 1840s. He was a pure-blood wizard, and kept his identity a secret from his companions during the trek west. During most of the 19th century, many wizards like Reginald joined the No-maj settlers on their migration west from the east coast of the United Sates to escape the MACUSA’s segregation laws. Along the way, Reginald fell in love with a Native American guide, who happened to be a pure-blood witch as well. They both told each other they were wizards when they confessed their feelings for each other, and later married after settling down.
Danny is the great-uncle of Cato Reese on his mother’s side of the family. Casey, Daniel’s brother, was the grandfather of Sheila Windberth, the mother of Cato.
He is affectionately nicknamed “Danny” by his friends and family, while he goes by “Dan” in a professional setting by those who know him.
Danny discovered a natural aptitude for the piano only when his uncle and aunt on Rue’s side of the family invited him to play for their Christmas party at their manor in December 1888. Casey shared this with his brother. This talent ran through the family, all the way down to Cato’s generation, which was also passed down to his son.
At Hogwarts, he found himself out to be a rather skilled chef. Danny often volunteered in the kitchens, preferring frying or baking, and he was good with a skillet. He understood the merits of it not only as a cooking utensil, but as a weapon for self-defense as well!
Danny grew some sympathy for house-elves while working in the kitchens as a result of his childhood trauma. As much as he’d wanted to speak and advocate for their rights, the nature of wizarding society at the time meant that he only could keep it as a secret only among him and his closest friends.
(Author’s note: I’m sorry if this may seem long, or if information in this contradicts with the details of others’ MCs. Again, the years shown are not set in stone; they just give you an idea of the general time period Danny lives in. We know Hogwarts Legacy is set in the late 19th century, however the actual years the game takes place in have yet to be announced.)

Note
Either Batticus or Jackmon for the ship ask?! I can’t choose đŸ„°đŸ˜‚
Choose? As if I'd make you -- let's do both!! đŸ„° Starting with Jackmon...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
who made the first move: Technically Jackson. Jacko admittedly is a total charmer all the time, and even though he was too scarred by his father John Eglinton's toxic masculinity to be open with his sexuality, he most assuredly acted more than a touch flirtatiously around Monty, even if just subconsciously.
who kissed who first: Monty kissed Jackson first. Jackson had a LOT of trouble admitting to both himself and Monty how deeply he'd fallen in love with him due to his own hang-ups, but it finally got to the point that Monty could tell Jackson's denials were all just bluster, so he jumped the divide between them. As soon as he did, Jackson immediately melted and kissed Monty back.
who started the relationship: Both, once Monty finally got Jackson to face just how real their feelings were and made it clear that he was sticking right by Jackson, no matter what.
who remembers things: Monty. Jacko is ADHD as all get-out, so he's very prone to forgetting things.
nicknames for each other: Funnily enough, Monty is the one person Jackson doesn't use nicknames with -- he loves Monty so much that he won't part with a single syllable of his wonderful name, so he exclusively calls him "Montelimar." Monty will sometimes use Jackson's common nicknames like "Jackie" or "Jacko," but also tends to stick close to using Jackson's name. He will occasionally use modest terms of endearment like "love" or "chere" though.
who is more likely to pay for dinner: Oh, gosh, Jacko. Jacko is big on spoiling Monty financially, so he's the one with the deep pockets.
who normally cooks: Monty, though Jackson loves helping!
who remembers anniversaries: Both, fortunately, but Jackson goes ALL out. Expect breakfast in bed, presents, and flowers every anniversary, Monty dear.
what would they get each other for gifts: Jackson loves giving Monty new clothes, tickets to theatrical productions, books, and especially flowers. Monty also likes giving Jackson books (especially books of poetry), but also gardening equipment and new seeds or saplings that Jackson can plan in their garden, as well as writing supplies for his Ministry work and so that Jackson can write more poems of his own.
most trivial thing they fight over: The arrangement of the furniture. Monty is the sort to like to have the armchairs close to windows and lamps, so as to have plenty of light in the room for reading, and although Jackson loves reading as well, he's very finicky about a room looking aesthetically pleasing and not too crowded.
how often do they fight: Almost never. Jackson doesn't like being angry or sad, and he especially hates knowing he's upset Monty, so even if he's a total diva with very dramatic emotions, he'll often completely decease and desist the moment Monty puts his foot down.
who uses all the hot water: Oh come on, we all know it's Jackson.
who calls up the super/landlord when the heat’s not working: Fortunately Monty and Jackson would be well enough off that they wouldn't need to live in a flat...but if something's wrong in the house, I could see Monty being the one to remember to deal with it, unless it's something that bothers Jackson so much that he feels the need to dramatically make a big issue of it.
who leaves their stuff around: Jackson. He's more artistic in how he strews things about than sloppy, but he's enough of a diva that he would not be above dramatically sweeping off his coat or cape and tossing it across the chair after a long day of work.
who remembers to buy the milk: Monty's the responsible one, and he has the good memory, so yes, he'd fill this role in their relationship.
who controls the netflix queue: In a modern, less magical AU, this role would definitely be Jackson. He's very opinionated about the arts, so he'd dictate most of the entertainment he and Monty enjoyed together. Fortunately his tastes match up with Monty's rather well and he has good taste, so Monty doesn't mind one bit.
who steals the covers at night: Jackson, I guess -- though I see him being more of a snuggler with Monty than the blankets.
who cusses more: LOL, it's rare when either of them swear -- Monty because he's such an intellectual and Jackson because of his need to uphold his gentlemanly image.
who does most of the cleaning: Both! Magic makes it quite easy, and Jacko loves cleaning the house with Monty on the weekends.
what’s their favorite non-sexual activity: Reading books together! Jackson will often sit in Monty's lap while they take turns reading poetry together. 💚
who’s the cuddler: LMAO, definitely Jackson. He's secretly incredibly needy as a lover, and when these two are in private, Jackson is incredibly physically affectionate with Monty.
who’s the big spoon/little spoon: Monty is the big spoon -- Jackson is the little spoon.
who’s more dominant: Monty, actually! For however much of a loud, proud diva Jackson is in public, he takes on an incredibly submissive role in the bedroom.
who is the dirty talker: Mmm, technically Jackson? Though it's very muted and softcore. His "bedroom talk" is more on the vocal, submissive side than anything.
what do they do when they’re away from each other: Work, quite honestly. Though if Jackson's away from the UK on a business trip, he'll often daydream about being back at home with Monty.
what would they do if the other one was hurt: Monty is incredibly protective of Jackson -- if anyone were to hurt him, he'd pretty much immediately go into "knight-in-shining-armor" mode to protect him. If anyone hurt Monty, Jackson would immediately rush to Heal Monty's injuries himself, and probably also plot cold, silent revenge against whoever dared hurt his beloved Montelimar.
a headcanon: Jackson and Montelimar's wedding was held at a pavilion in England not far from Jackson's grandfather's estate, but their honeymoon was in Normandy, France.
And Batticus is under the cut!
Ship Ask!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
who made the first move: These two's relationship is more on the queerplatonic side in their canon...but even in the Reincarnation AU, where they could be more explicitly romantic, the first move was always Bat's, though he wouldn't have seen it as such. Being demisexual and demiromantic, Bat fell in love by becoming Grim's friend first, and it was through that close friendship that Bat became more extroverted and intimate with his emotions.
who kissed who first: It would have to be Grim, impulsively -- with Bat being demi, kissing isn't something second-nature to him, and if he were a vampire, he'd be a little intimidated of getting too physically close to Grim.
who started the relationship: Both, once they talked the whole thing out. These two are both very cerebral Ravenclaws, so they'd want to not just hash out their feelings, but figure out what they wanted in a relationship and how things would work between them before committing to anything.
who remembers things: Grim. Bat's memory isn't bad, far from it, but he tends to live in the moment, and especially while he's a vampire, time becomes much more nebulous and vague to him.
nicknames for each other: "Bat" and "Grim," respectively. It's exclusively what they call each other in all canons, whether their relationship is friendly, queerplatonic. or explicitly romantic.
who is more likely to pay for dinner: They'd split the bill. Bat is poor in all canons, sad to say, but he would stubbornly and proudly try to pay for himself or just do without, rather than have Grim pay for him.
who normally cooks: Bat. He likes being of service to Grim, so when he comes over to Grim's place in their canon, he'll brew Grim tea and cook him dinner sometimes, if he's not feeling well.
who remembers anniversaries: Grim. Bat honestly doesn't put much weight on such things or even on other recurrent things like birthdays, especially when he's a vampire.
what would they get each other for gifts: Books! Oh god, these two both love giving each other books. Though Bat did also once save up to buy Grim a model train set one Christmas.
most trivial thing they fight over: Money. Bat is a proud, stubborn little bugger who can't stand it when Grim tries to pay for anything for him, even when he can't afford it.
how often do they fight: Not that often -- Bat's pretty chill by and large, so it's not easy to get him agitated. Though Grim does often express disapproval when Bat shares knowledge with their students that's not particularly "appropriate" for their age range, such as Inferi for anyone younger than the OWL level.
who uses all the hot water: Neither of them, really. I don't see either of them being the type to take long showers or baths.
who calls up the super/landlord when the heat’s not working: Either one, depending on who noticed it first.
who leaves their stuff around: Both. With Bat, he's likely to leave unfinished woodworking projects around -- with Grim, he's likely to leave half-graded homework assignments and paperwork around.
who remembers to buy the milk: Bat, probably on the fly, while walking past the grocers.
who controls the netflix queue: LOL, in the event that these two watched TV together, I could see them mutually surfing channels and stopping on whatever looked interesting. Documentaries, especially -- the Discovery Channel would get a lot of play, in Batticus's flat.
who steals the covers at night: Neither. Grim is an insomniac, so he never sleeps well. When he's human, Bat isn't the type to get cold while he's sleeping, and when he's a vampire, he doesn't sleep at all.
who cusses more: Surprisingly, Grim! Grim can swear a lot when he's frustrated or surprised.
who does most of the cleaning: Bat -- he loves staying busy and active, and his Quidditch-star-and-veteran-worthy strength actually does make it really easy to move furniture around to do really nice, deep cleans.
what’s their favorite non-sexual activity: Going on outings! Especially during Christmas time. Bat loves window shopping in Hogsmeade with Grim.
who’s the cuddler: Neither, really. Grim was raised in a very "proper" Victorian home, so he isn't very practiced expressing physical affection, and Bat as stated earlier is demisexual and demiromantic, so cuddling isn't something his brain and body tend to lean toward. I could see them really enjoying sleeping in the same bed in the Reincarnation AU, though -- even if they didn't end up cuddling, Grim would really like Bat leaning his head on his shoulder as he slept, and would probably be unable to stop himself from brushing some of his hair out of his face.
who’s the big spoon/little spoon: Bat as the big spoon and Grim as the little spoon, most of the time, but only because of their height difference. And yeah, this could only be in a universe where Bat wasn't a vampire who would go mad with blood lust, being so physically close to Grim.
who’s more dominant: Bat and Grim are interesting because they're really much more like equal partners, rather than one of them being dominant and the other submissive. I could see outsiders assuming Bat was the more dominant of the two, given that he's taller and stronger than Grim, but Bat is so laid-back so much of the time that Grim calls the shots in their dynamic plenty.
who is the dirty talker: Neither. Grim is too much of a gentleman and Bat is too demi in all ways for either of them to be big into dirty verbal foreplay.
what do they do when they’re away from each other: Do their own thing, quite honestly. In all universes, Bat and Grim love spending time together and they cherish each other deeply, but truly, they're able to function very well on their own as well.
what would they do if the other one was hurt: If Grim was hurt, Bat would go into soldier mode trying to protect him and take down the threat to his safety. Once the threat was negated, Bat would then rush to try to help Grim however he could, whether by Healing him himself or getting him help from someone else. If Bat was hurt...honestly, Grim would ultimately probably do the same thing! Negate the threat to Bat's safety and then do whatever he had to Heal Bat's injuries. I could just see Bat being a bit more physical in his attacks than Grim -- Atticus is an excellent magical duelist, so he'd be using his wand primarily, while Bat I could see throwing a punch, using a weapon, or tackling somebody if he had to.
a headcanon: There were quite a few students at Hogwarts who thought Professor Grimsley and Hogsmeade's vampire scholar Bartholomew Varney had "something going on." Most supposed Bat had used his "vampire glamor" to make Grim hopelessly attracted to him -- an assumption that Grim would always dryly put down if he overheard it, reminding the students in question that vampires were not veela and scolding them for believing such baseless superstitions.

IT IIIIIS. 😭 Our two beautiful boys!! 💙💚
[As the Act One finale of Tchaikovsky’s The Sleeping Beauty played, Jackson sneaked a glance over at his partner sitting beside him. Montelimar’s eyes were focused on the action, the light of the gas lamps of their box making his eyes sparkle like stars even through his glasses.]
What saint did I catch the eye of, to be blessed enough to call so handsome a man my lover?
[The Slytherin tried not to look as utterly dorky and sappy on the outside, but he couldn’t quite keep the lovestruck smile off his face as he reached down and took his lover’s hand. Jackson’s longer fingers trailed along Montelimar’s hand, interlacing with his and then releasing, massaging the spaces between the other man’s fingers.]
Je t’aime, ma chere Montelimar. Je t’adore.
[Jackson had been practicing his French, to surprise Montelimar with He’d say those words again aloud, once the two were alone and preferably behind closed doors, as a husky whisper in his ear — in the meantime, however, Jackson could content himself with saying it with his hands.]

6 for Jackmon?<3
6. when they're so patient and understanding with you (Jackmon)
@cursebreakerfarrier ❀
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jackson Knightly knew that, compared to some people, his personality could be considered a bit...well, dramatic. Most of the time that resulted in people being charmed by Jackson's flashy showmanship and suave charm -- but from time to time, it also could result in Jackson being a little obnoxious.
By which I mean he could act like a massive drama queen.
"I did not order lilacs -- I ordered lilac wisterias!" Jackson told the gardener in utter aggravation as he gestured to the lilac trees that had been planted around the venue. "Lilac as in the color of the flower!"
The gardener looked very flustered in response to how upset Jackson had gotten and stumbled over his apology. "Um -- begging your pardon, sir...just a simple mistake..."
"'Simple?'" recurred Jackson loudly, flabbergasted. "Simple? Hardly! Lilacs and wisteria have drastically different meanings! Do you truly think I would be declaring budding love to the German Minister? Why, even just getting the wrong shade of wisteria would change my message of hospitality and a desire for unity into one of mourning! For Merlin's sake..."
Jackson appeared absolutely beside himself even as his husband's hand seemed to materialize out of nowhere and take hold of his shoulder.
"Jackson, I'm sure the man simply thought your choice was motivated by what was in season," Monty said soothingly. "Wisteria trees aren't natively from around here, after all. And the lilacs he picked really are quite lovely..."
Jackson whirled on his husband impatiently. "Lovely or no, they are not the message I want to leave the German Ministry with! This is our first meeting since the Muggles started that blasted War of theirs -- I need to ensure that we stay on good terms, and I can't do that if even the flowers I've chosen are sending mixed messages!"
Monty felt the urge to smile out of amusement, but he tried hard to make the expression more patient instead. "Jackson, I'm sure the Germans won't be offended by your flowers..."
"They won't, because I won't let the wrong ones get planted," Jackson said huffily.
The Minister brought a hand onto the gardener's shoulder, holding it in a rather firm grip as he steered him around, out toward the path leading out of the outdoor venue.
"You will go back to the shop this instant and purchase the proper trees to replace these," he said, his faintly haughty voice akin to one you might hear from a governess. "Once we have them planted properly, I'll repay the treasury's funds for these," he indicated the lilac trees, "to reimburse the incorrect purchase."
The gardener still looked rather bewildered and sheepish, but nonetheless gave a slightly cowed nod. "Yes, sir."
With this, he Disapparated. Once the gardener was gone, Jackson immediately set about levitating the lilac trees up and out of the dirt with his wand, repotting them in the pots they'd come in.
Monty offered Jackson a gentler, more reassuring expression.
"Jackson," he said kindly, "I know you're anxious about your meeting with Kanzlerin Maier and her support staff...but you really don't need to worry so much."
But Jackson stubbornly shook his head as he put his wand away and filled the pots with soil by hand.
"This is my first time meeting the woman, Montelimar. First impressions are everything -- I can't afford to be complacent."
"I doubt anyone would think that of you," Monty reassured his husband, indicating the elegantly painted gazebo and violet and gold-draped tables and chairs. "Why, just look at this place already! It already looks very elegant. And you've always been a wonderful communicator...I'm sure you'll be able to make your intentions clear to the German Minister, flowers or not."
Jackson's mouth was twisted into a deep pout, akin to a child's.
"But the meaning of the flowers would be wrong, Montelimar," he said moodily. "I can hardly play the gentleman, if I appear ignorant about my own flowers."
Monty smiled fondly as he bent down next to his husband. He then leaned in to place a quick, chaste kiss to Jackson's forehead, right beside his brown hair.
"Not everyone of good breeding is as well-versed in flowers as you are, my sweet Jacko," he said quietly as Jackson exhaled. "Some try to communicate with them, others...well, they just look at them and go 'ah -- pretty.'"
Jackson's gaze had become much dreamier as he looked up lovingly at his husband.
"Mm...much as I do, looking at you, Montelimar," he murmured.
His blue eyes quickly swiveled around, checking for any possible onlookers. Upon finding no one, Jackson relaxed that bit more, and he trailed the back of his hand along Monty's cheek, leaning in so that their noses touched.
"'Ah -- pretty,'" he whispered playfully beside Monty's lips.
With fondness rippling through his eyes, Monty kissed Jackson full on the lips, which made Jackson melt in his arms, almost swooning as Monty brought an arm around him. Jackson dangled off of Monty's neck, his grinning face as bright and flushed as a sunbeam.
"Oh, Montelimar," he sighed. "You must think I'm incredibly silly, don't you?"
Monty's fond smile widened. "Only because of how much you want to do right by your position."
He kissed Jackson again, a bit more chastely. Jackson's eyes slid closed like a pleased cat's.
"...I should probably tip the gardener for being prompt with fixing his mistake," he murmured absently. "And as an apology for my mood. The lilacs are rather lovely."
"I think that would be a very kind gesture," Monty agreed.

12 or 15 for Jackmon? đŸ„ș
15. watching their oblivious s/o lovingly (Jackmon)
Montelimar Bloom was widely considered to be one of the smartest students in his year. He was always ahead of his classmates in just about every academic subject, having already memorized the Transfiguration alphabet at the beginning of his first year and perfectly sidestepping Chameleon Ghouls while still preparing for his OWLs. He often showcased his intelligence in other ways, though, and one of those types of intelligence was the emotional kind -- most notably, his own emotions. Monty always knew who he was and what he felt, and even in those times he had difficulty expressing what he felt, especially for other people, that didn't change that he still knew what it was he wanted to express.
And oh, and in this moment...he really, really wanted to tell Jackson Knightly that he was the most beautiful man he had ever seen, surrounded by and holding several worn old books on top of a tall ladder with his collar undone, his sleeves rolled up, and his hair lightly tousled.
"Isn't it marvelous, Bloom?!" Jackson called over to Monty excitedly, as he swung gleefully off the ladder with the one hand not holding the stack of books against his chest. "All these books, covered in dust -- likely unread since the owners of these portraits were still living -- !"
"Get down from there before you break your neck!" one of the female Headmistress portraits told Jackson anxiously.
"If he did break his neck, it'd serve him right," growled the portrait beside her, "sneaking into the Headmaster's office like some petty thief -- "
Jackson rather coolly blew the dust off the book he'd taken off the shelf right at the portrait, making the man inside sputter indignantly.
"Bleh -- ptoo! The nerve!" he blustered. "You'll regret this, you little churl! When Headmaster Black hears about this -- !"
"'When he hears about it?' Good sir, I'll look forward to the conversation," said Jackson with a suave smile. "Why, it's positively shameful that Professor Black treats his books so poorly. Take these histories, for instance -- I could see quite a few magical historians being appalled, by the amount of dust they've accumulated, especially when they could be so useful to their research. All these books of spells -- how helpful these could be to the staff, for their lessons -- or perhaps the Ministry, these look a touch dangerous for a school. Even these here -- they must be more personal to the Headmaster, for them to be as earmarked as they are. The Mudblood Menace -- Defanged: The Virtue of Vampire Hunting -- Power for Power's Sake: How to Get What You Want Without Working Too Hard...Professor Black really should be more open with his disgusting world views, rather than just hide them away on such grand old bookshelves..."
A lot of the portraits around the books looked visibly uncomfortable. One or two, however, including the portrait who'd expressed concern for Jackson's safety early, was having trouble biting back a smile, and so was Monty, despite himself.
"'Power for Power's Sake?'" the Ravenclaw recurred. "Well, I must say, that certainly explains Professor Black taking on the Headmaster position in the first place. I had trouble believing it was solely due to masochism."
Jackson laughed. "Indeed, my good Frenchman! I suppose when selling one's soul for power, being surrounded by bratty whiffets is the price one pays!"
Monty came over to help take the books from Jackson before he either dropped them or fell climbing down. With his other hand restored to him, Jackson was able to swing down leisurely, clapping Monty on the back before bustling across the bookshelf to the other side to look over the titles on the other side.
"Why, look here, Bloom! One of the Headmasters actually collected the works of Lord Byron!"
Monty couldn't help but smile fondly as Jackson immediately whipped out the book, blowing off some of the dust before eagerly, but tenderly opening it.
"'O'er the glad waters of the dark blue sea, our thoughts as boundless, and our souls as free'..." Jackson sighed through a bright, beaming smile. "Oh, how evil such an archivist is, to start with 'Corsair!' My breath is stolen away, and I've just opened the book."
Monty's eyes became softer and glassier as he silently watched Jackson. The Ravenclaw could feel his cheeks had gotten very warm and hoped beyond reason Jackson wouldn't take notice as he gently put the stack of books he'd taken from Jackson down on a side table.
"Lord Byron is a very talented poet," Monty said slowly.
"Isn't he?" said Jackson excitedly. "I knew you had good taste, my brilliant Frenchman."
Fortunately, to Monty's immense relief, the Slytherin was too distracted with gently parsing through the old book of poems to look up, leaving Monty to happily stand back and watch in peace as he continued to read passages aloud.
"Here we are! Here's my favorite -- 'So, we'll go no more a roving, so late into the night, though the heart be still as loving, and the moon be still as bright...'"

â˜źïž for Jacko and Carey bear please?<3
☟ - friendship headcanon
Tumblr media
Jackson may come across as a very extroverted person who's both effortlessly confident and immune to shame to most people, but that doesn't mean it's easy to become close friends with him. Jackson is very prone to put on a charming mask with people, so showing vulnerability or self-doubt is not something that's very easy for him. It's possible that strangers or acquaintances might see Jackson lose his temper...but only his friends -- namely, those people who Jackson refers to by nicknames based on their first names rather than titles -- will ever see Jackson sad. Seeing Jackson cry is even rarer -- one of the very few who's ever seen that is Jackson's bestie Adelia Selwyn @thatravenpuffwitch, after Adelia expressed her support for Jacko coming out of the closet and going steady with Montelimar Bloom @cursebreakerfarrier.
Tumblr media
The period during the Second Wizarding War where Bill and Carewyn couldn't contact each other without endangering Carewyn's undercover work for the Order of the Phoenix was very hard on both of them, and after going into hiding, Bill wrote journal entries in form of letters to Carewyn to both distract himself and transcribe everything he wished he could share with her. He gave this collection of letters to Carewyn after the War (something that brought usually-stoic Carewyn to tears), and she now keeps them inside a fake book on her bookcase so she can peruse them on rainy days. One of the "letters" she often comes back to is one Bill wrote not long after Ron, Harry, and Hermione left Shell Cottage preparing to break into Gringotts:
Hey, Carey, It's a gloomy morning today at the coast. I'm trying to remember your old story about Jacob taking you to the beach on gray days to avoid the crowds, if just to stave off how foreboding it feels. Ron, Harry, and Hermione left today, with Griphook in tow. I warned Harry against making any kind of deal with him rashly, but I don't know how well he took it to heart. I don't know how he took it to heart. Frankly I don't know how well any of them took my words, telling them our house was always open...asking them to be careful... Carey...I felt so adrift, watching them go. Part of me wanted to just grab onto all three of them and tell them not to go back out there
but all I could think of was us, back in the Sunken Vault, when you tried to tell us all to go and save ourselves. Yet we all chose to stay behind, no matter what the risk to ourselves. I was the exact same age as they are right now. We were so young then, Carey
Merlin, we were so young
I want to feel that brave again, Carey. For just a minute, I want to forget all the tried-and-true experience, all the betrayals, all of the years of disappointment and fear that's exhausted us beyond belief, and just be brave again. I hope you're thinking of me right now just as I'm thinking about you and I hope that's making it easier for you to be brave. Because I know that's the only way we'll make it through the storm. If we're brave. And we're not alone. Stay strong, Bill

🍁🍂💧 for dear Jacko, please? Danny and I hope you're doing well, Tory!<3
Thank you, Cato đŸ©” I hope you're well too!
Tumblr media
🍁- What's this oc's favorite genre of movies/tv shows/books/etc?
Hahaha, I don't see Jacko being much of a movie person even in his OG era (he's much more the sort to love live productions in a theater, whether traditional plays, operas, or ballet), but he is both a poet and romantic! He collects books of poetry, both magical and non-magical, his entire life, and a book of Jackson's own poetry (mainly written about and to his beloved husband, Montelimar Bloom @cursebreakerfarrier) is even published posthumously. Jackson's favorite Muggle poets are Edgar Allen Poe and Lord Byron, while his favorite magical one is Alexander Pope. His favorite novel is Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray, but he also enjoys the works of Shakespeare and of Jane Austen.
🍂- What music does this oc like?
Classical, primarily, especially the kind written for ballet. His favorite composer is Tchaikovsky, and of all of his work, Jackson loves his Sleeping Beauty ballet and his Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture best.
💧- What is this oc most passionate about?
Following his dreams! Jackson has always been determined to and confident he will do great things, from the very start, and he won't rest until the world knows and loves his name. That being said, he truly does love the Wizarding World like almost nothing else, and as Minister he wants to protect it just as much as make them happy. He also loves both the arts and learning overall, so at the Ministry he both indulges in a lot of artistic endeavors and fundraises for a lot of educational programs and libraries.

“You took a great risk, coming here.”
“Well, what’s life without a little risk, my brilliant Frenchman? ...Forgive me -- your Highness.”
“No. ...Forgive me, but...I never want to hear that phrase out of your mouth again, Mr. Knightly.”
“...Then I shall simply have to come up with others, my prince.”
In England at the start of the 20th century, a soft-spoken, intellectual prince with a love of academics and learning and a flashy, charming vaudeville entertainer with a tragic past carry on a secret whirlwind romance that comes to a head at a fateful royal ball, where the prince is expected to announce his engagement to a foreign princess and the young actor plays his part so well that no one would suspect his humble origins.
xxx featuring James McAvoy as Jackson Knightly @carewyncromwell and Luke Treadaway as Montelimar “Monty” Bloom @cursebreakerfarrier
#gaaaaaah this idea wouldn't leave me alone I just had to do something with it#but yeah vaudeville theaters would've been considered rather low-brow compared to more upscale theaters#so this fits for a cinderella-esque story#not to mention we have our two wonderful perfect gay men in a time period when homosexuality was er...yeah a bit frowned upon#I see jacko boy having made a name for himself as a stage magician when he was still under his father's thumb#and then becoming more of a traditional vaudeville entertainer -- magician actor singer dancer -- after running away and growing up#I also see these two having met while monty was visiting the local university#dressing super casual bc plz don't bow and act all weird with me I just wanna read lots of books >//<#so jacko boy originally has NO idea who he's even talking to even though he can kind of suss out he's upper crust pretty easily#and because jackson also is kind of putting on his best face monty at first thinks he's part of -- like -- the royal theater company#partially because of how well-spoken and gentlemanly he acts hahahaha#not that either of them are disappointed when they figure out the truth#aside from the slight 'oh...wow yeah we're from two different worlds' thing#if I wanted to lean into the time period part of this AU I could always reference wwi as a plot point#but not too much -- no tragic ending for these boys no way :I#anyway these two own my heart and I need to do more with them I love them so ;~;#jackson knightly#montelimar bloom#au#moodboard#...I can't even label this as cinderella au because I already did one for carewyn LMAO#would you even believe that cinderella isn't my favorite fairy tale?!?#it just fits these two so well though
