DotS: Knights of the Stars file #04 — Sir Meta Knight

Name: Sir Meta Knight of the Stars Age: 514 yrs (Young Adult Dream Puff) Rank: 4th Star Knight Captain

Seemingly aloof with cryptic tendencies, Sir Meta Knight is among the more mysterious members of the Star Warriors' knight faction.

He earned his title "The Lone Swordsman" over 300 years ago after the loss of his original squadron of Star Warriors, due to an ambush by both regular Demon Beasts, and led by a ferocious True Nightmare. This was among the first emergences of True Nightmares, and so his team stood no match against the terrors they faced.

Following the demise of his best friend gone Demon Beast, Jecra, he swore to a path of solitude. Many say it was due to shame, or guilt, but in truth it was out of fear for others. Knowing he would inevitably face great horrors, he chose to seek great strength so that he may take on these trials alone, so that no others would suffer the losses he had.

Even in today's age, Sir Meta Knight tends to keep his intentions close to his chest; however those who know him well enough can rest assured knowing that said intentions are with the benefit of others in mind. Though this tendency of his leaves others in the dark, as they usually don't know his plans until he's in the process of executing said plans. This leads to frequent misconceptions and miscommunications surrounding his motives.

Despite being the leader of an entire personal army and battleship, he falls into his loner habits often and leaves his men to piece together his schemes. Senior staff are accustomed to it, though it does frustrate many of his crew members, new or old.

He does patrols around Popstar regularly, be it with his crew, a handful of men, or most commonly solo. As a result, however, he has established a decent relationship with many towns, villages, and a handful of cities along the peaceful star.

Unbeknownst to the public, Sir Meta Knight has a playful side. Although it's frequently seen that he adores donning various costumes for certain occasions (such as cosplay events or festivals), there's more than meets the eye with this blueberry lad!

Since he was a young boy, he's harbored a strong fascination for monsters and collecting information in general. As a result of this, he's comprised an extensive database featuring every monster, Demon Beast, True Nightmare, Boss Class Beasts, and mythical creature discovered in the Galaxy. Most he personally has encountered, and gathered valuable intel from other warriors as well.

He compiled it all into a handy mobile application which he has lovingly titled "MonsterDex". This app is used Galaxy-wide by Star Warriors and fellow Knights. With intention, it's saved many lives by arming newer warriors with expert knowledge on dangerous, or surprisingly docile, encounters.

Meta's a bit of a nerd when it comes to his fun facts, and likes to share his knowledge with others in hopes of finding a fellow enthusiast. It tends to backfire, as his pointers are frequently lost on common folk.

As implied, he's also incredibly savvy with technology, and is something of a coding wonder. He rivals but one tech genius from his childhood, though she was always a few steps ahead of him.

Underneath that stoic, enigmatic knight persona hides a rather sweet young man with a huge heart. His love and passion for others fuels his core, and is his primary motivation behind all he does— be it well executed or poorly shown.

Sir Meta Knight's motivations lie in his selfless desire to protect others, especially those he cares about most to a point of detriment to himself at times. Several sleepless nights spent fixing a prosthetic limb for a friend; using his body to absorb a frightening blast to shield a young Waddle Dee; going by his lonesome to rescue his ship's kidnapped captain whilst the Halberd lie crashed behind him. He will do anything and everything necessary to do what's right, even if it's on the extreme side at times.

On one final note, he loves jokes! He's grown real clever with it, and enjoys sliding a quick pun in conversations when people least expect it. Surprising people is one of his favorite hobbies, hence why he enjoys sneaking up on people, only for them to later discover his presence when he makes himself known, or they happen to look at his direction.

He has a strong playful attitude hidden behind many of his more laid-back endeavors, and his younger, more cocky and witty side may show itself in certain situations. He's strongly situational, so how he interacts with something or someone highly depends on context.

For many years, he was consumed with searching for the truth behind Eave's disappearance; however, the trail went cold centuries ago. It wasn't until recently that a great discovery landed almost quite literally into his hands, and set the trail ablaze once more... thusly re-sparking his obsession. Perhaps now he'll come ever closer to solving the mystery, and finally achieving the closure he's long sought.

Tou Zai was having a horrible week.

He'd woken up to brief message left in his inbox, informing him that he was now the main medical attendant to easily the most dreaded resident in Sanctum. Fenrir, the Monstrous Wolf that would, apparently, cause the end of the whole world, should he escape. Yikes.

Why the higher ups thought it was a good idea to assign a rabbit to a wolf was completely lost on him; unfortunately, no amount of passive aggressive, whiny phone calls had changed anyone's mind. They told him that the canine's previous nurse had been 'incapacitated' and would remain on leave for 'an undisclosed amount of time.' Hearing this news was, of course, highly encouraging for the already terrified moon rabbit.

Tou Zai headed towards Sanctum's high security wing, toting a small bag packed with a number of different medicines. It seemed that the wolf was having trouble sleeping, despite being awake and active all night. Even the strongest modern medicines had failed, so they turned to him in hopes that something less conventional would do the trick. He had a few remedies in mind, though he highly doubted the other would allow him to get close enough to administer them. 

The svelte researcher paused in front of the metal door, taking in a deep breath to settle his nerves. Surely they had taken all the precautions needed to ensure he wouldn’t be torn to shreds the second he stepped foot into the room, right? And if they hadn’t…well, at least he had a few rounds of tranquilisers on hand. Plus, that beefy blond guy looked like he could probably take a few wolves down if he needed to.

Tou Zai cleared his throat and inserted his card key, feeling his blood run cold as soon as the locks beeped open. No going back now...

Well, it went to hell and back really quickly. One moment, he was looking through his files and the other he was ducking from flying objects. An unholy screeching was going on and he wanted to do nothing with it. He was a scientist - not a fighter.

But he noticed a trend of people trying to really protect the East wing where one of his subjects were - the moon deity; but the one they tried to hide the most wasn’t watched. The god of literal apocalypse.

He knew it was stupid to go and check on him - he should have grabbed some of the security, but the monster was staying away from his wing and with the power going on and off it was pretty likely that his security door popped open.

Sigurd pressed a hand to his bruising shoulder as he went into the hallway. It was mostly empty, just in case, but he did press in every door to close along with adding the password. However, by the time he got to the end of it, he stopped seeing the sight in front of him.

He never paid much attention to the looks of the monster - he could get a lot from their gene makeup anyway, but something struck him as odd as when he saw that… boy. If it weren’t for the red bounds on his body, he would be certain he was a lost teenager. Still, Sigurd knew a bit better.

Straightening his back, he made his way towards him. “I will have to ask you to return to your room. Please.”

Gilbert exhaled a deep breath, peering out from behind the corner that he was hiding. He had escaped from his room for an hour already, and nobody had noticed - hah, served them right, he thought. It was dangerous to keep a Unicorn against his will.

One of the workers, Cecile, had been visiting him regularly. It was mostly because he kept instigating fights with both the other residents and the staff, and it was apparently her duty to try and alleviate these problems. Gilbert would not be appeased with mere ‘mediation’, however. A confined unicorn was a dangerous unicorn, and that was that.

Cecile would be coming through one of those doors any second now - he had worked to memorise her schedule. She’d come through that door, and he’d kill her - well. At least h’ed threaten to. He wasn’t against taking a life, especially when it meant his own escape, but he supposed that it would be less troublesome if he kept her alive. In his hand was a blade, one he had managed to get from the kitchens  (he may or may not have bribed one of the other staff members to get it for him in exchange for some of his blood for healing), which is what he’d use.

He had to be quick. It would not be long before he was found and sent back to his room, and possibly punished for having contraband. He just hoped that Cecile was smart enough to listen to him.

A sound nearby diverted his attention and he glanced over his shoulder - was someone coming?

He thinks it’s cool, plain and simple. Alfred graduated with his masters degree at 19, and this is the first place he applied. (Yeah, he’s sort of a junior researcher.)

Headcanons:  

Alfred had originally planned to study sharks, but he picked up the Cryptozoology specialization in grad school.

He’s just as obnoxious as you’d expect someone to be that’s graduated that early.

He’s currently working on his doctorate as well, using the experience he gains at Sanctum for his research and thesis.

Not much has happened in his life, honestly. He’s a nerd, he’s a virgin. He gets way too obsessed with his hobbies.

Expect him to go on rambles about something he’s discovered. You probably don’t want to get caught in a hallway with this guy.

He’ll look at other stuff, but he’s pretty focused on water creatures.

He lives there and he’ll be up at ALL hours working. 

Not an asshole! (Well, not as much of one at least.)

MONSTERDEX || INFO

:RESEARCHER - CREATURE: 

Name: Ludwig Beilschmidt Species: Werewolf || Lycanthrope 

Bestiary Entry:  As with most mythological creatures, each nation, community, has a different view on lycanthropy. There are several ways a human can become a werewolf - drinking rain water from the footprint of a wolf, wearing a belt of wolfskin, sleeping outside on a summer night with the full moon shining directly onto your face, a bite, a scratch, an attack.  Borne of a bite sustained during field research, Ludwig has been suffering with lycanthropy for almost three years. For the first two months of his change, under the guise of a work related opportunity, Ludwig travelled to a specialized facility several countries away so as to come to terms with the change, to educate himself about the tools necessary to keep the change under control, and to guarantee the safety of others. Once a month, on the night of the full moon, Ludwig goes through his transformation. Technically, the change begins a couple of days before the full moon, and reverts a couple of days after. Ludwig’s temper becomes more heated, he suffers symptoms that resemble those of the flu, his hair grows much faster, and (perhaps the most drastic change of all and certainly the one that frustrates him most) he doesn’t go to work. On the night of the change, Ludwig takes himself somewhere private and returns home in the morning as though nothing has happened. 

Physical Description:  He looks like the regular old Ludwig everyone knows and loves most of the time, but closer to the full moon his hair does become a little more unruly, and his sideburns grow in with a little more conviction. Wolfish? Or overworked? 

Field of Study: Cryptocynology and Lycanthropology - creatures with specifically canine features. Definitely not two words I strategically spliced together to make something semi-understandable. 

Reason(s) for working at Sanctum: Ludwig’s interests did not turn to the study of cryptocynology until after his bite. At this point, he is by no means an expert but he is always making an effort to learn as much about his condition (and the condition of other canine swayed creatures) as possible. 

Headcanons:  - Very, very secretive about his monthly problem. No one who is not directly affected by his situation is aware of it.  - Works very closely with Fenrir (Úlfr), who was told of Ludwig’s situation in order to build trust. He is watching the others living habits and trying to determine a way Ulf may be able to live safely outside of Sanctum.   - No doggo’s! He loves them still, obviously, but he doesn’t have any pets.  - Currently shares board with a friend of his (Kiku) off Sanctum grounds.  -  He makes a solid effort to always be On Call.  [More to come.]
