“You get everything?” Knuckles asked in lieu of any sort of greeting; he didn’t even look up.

Shadow huffed. If he ever had any interest in being able to startle the echidna, he’d given up on it decades ago. Of course, that went both ways; each of them immersed too often in chaos energy for their senses to fail recognizing the other.

“There wasn’t much to collect,” he said to his back. “I don’t suppose you–?”

“I already got everything important to me,” Knuckles said quietly. “I only left the ghosts behind down there. No need to double-check.”

Shadow nodded.

“Well,” he said, hoisting his precious cargo. “I’m confident that I’ve got all I need.”

Knuckles finally turned from what he was doing to glance in Shadow’s direction; he followed with a much more dramatic double-take.

“Is that…?” He asked, tone bewildered.

“She said she wanted to be more valuable than the Mona Lisa,” Shadow said, shrugging and pulling out Rouge’s ashes; his diary and few preserved photos fit, but the heavily jewel-encrusted urn refused to be contained by any zipper. “It certainly kept life interesting after she died.”

“It’s sparkling,” Knuckles said dumbly. “There’s no natural light in here and it sparkles. It’s so…”

“Valuable.���

Knuckles stared at him. Shadow stared back; well aware the guardian had likely been reaching for a different word. He raised his hands amicably, smiling.

“She’d have loved it,” he murmured. “Where are you gonna keep her?”

“I thought she’d like the emerald chamber,” Shadow said. “Give her something to look at.”

“Heh. Sounds about right.”

Neither of them spoke for a moment, letting her memory occupy the silence.

“Okay,” Knuckles said, rolling his shoulders. “Check off our list; head count?”

“I spoke to Gemerl just before,” Shadow said, replacing Rouge in his bag. “He’s happy to leave whenever.”

“And the other two?”

Shadow chuckled.

“Omega questioned if fifty tons of ammunition was enough.”

Knuckles’ nose wrinkled.

“Just tell ‘em not to blow anything up unless we actually find a fight.”

Shadow smirked, shaking his head; more than a century, and some things still hadn’t changed.

“I’ll find Metal now.”

“It might be doing laps,” Knuckles said, rubbing his jaw. “Then again, I’ve been in here a while.” He shrugged, stepping to the wall. He grabbed onto an arch that gently angled out of the wall; amidst all the many chambers Shadow had seen on Angel Island, to say nothing of the chambers he hadn’t, one could easily mistake it for something aesthetic. “I’ll start the engine.”

Knuckles heaved; ancient mechanisms shook the floor as the echidna coaxed a massive cylinder of stone from the wall. He took ten paces backward, stopped, then threw the whole of his weight to one side, pulling with his shoulder.

The cylinder turned, a full one-hundred-eighty degrees.

Knuckles shoved, and the ignition slid back into place in the wall; the stuttering, intermittent clicks and clocks beneath his feet gave way and bled into a powerful hum. In the middle of the chamber, a display like a console came to life.

“Sayonara, Mobius.” Knuckles said, tipping his hat.

‘This is actually going to work.’

Shadow hadn’t exactly doubted Knuckles when he said Angel Island could take them off-planet, but the controls in front of him, the tinge of melancholy in the echidna’s voice…

It was suddenly much more tangible.

And Shadow was pleasantly surprised to find himself ready.

“I’m gonna get a little more comfortable with this set up,” Knuckles said, speaking with his back to Shadow again. “Let me know when our crew’s good to go.”

“Roger.” Shadow intoned, turning toward the door. Chaos control might let him move faster, but popping in and out all over the island looking would take him longer.

“Shadow.”

He looked over his shoulder. Knuckles looked back.

“Do you need anything from the–?”

“I only left ghosts behind up there,” Shadow said. “No need to double-check.”

Knuckles nodded and turned back to the console. Shadow silently thanked him for not asking twice.

He left the chamber, gradually picking up speed and skating toward the island surface.

Derek The Hedgehog | Chapter 1. Team Derek

Thump... Thump... Thump... Thump...

Derek could not sleep, despite the comfortable bed that he was inside, he was tossing and turning.

Thump... Thump... Thump... Thump...

"AGH! I'm so bored!"

Derek emerged from bed, he knew what the thumping was, Cheddar was getting antsy on a Saturday morning. Which is unusual considering the house had an entire library.

Derek emerged from his bed, taking off his pajama slippers as he walked into the bathroom, where he would shower, brush his quills and hair, do the rest of his daily hygiene rituals, then put his gloves, socks, shoes, jacket, and belt on.

He stepped downstairs, seeing the humorous sight of his mouse friend laying on a sofa, moaning in boredom, thumping their abnormally large tail around, despite being surrounded by bookshelves among bookshelves. Ironically, Mona was right above him, flying in midair while reading a graphic novel, slightly annoyed by Cheddar's insistence there was nothing to do.

"Isn't Commander whatsherface doing something?" Cheddar whined, Derek looked outside and saw a normal sunny day, "Nope, Laurel seems to not be doing anything yet," Derek assured them, "We should be fine."

Suddenly, Mona's antennae perked up, "We got guests!" the butterfly shouted out, getting everyone into position, Mona standing in front of the counter, Cheddar and Derek getting into position where they were ready to help, the the doors opened, a bell ringing for it.

"And Nobody's seen that hunk of metal since! I wonder what he's up to..." a blue hedgehog, one of the three guests, said as they walked in. Accompanying him was an orange fox with two tails and a red echidna.

"Greetings, welcome to my library!" Mona greeted the trio, "We have books, comics, CDs, DVDs, Vinyl Records, VHS tapes, and computers over there."

The red echidna went to check out the DVDs, the blue hedgehog went to read some of the comics, and the orange fox went to the computer.

The blue hedgehog approached Derek, about to ask him a question, but Derek noticed...

he looked familiar.

Now, Derek didn't have psychic powers, nor did he expect himself to have such powers, but somewhere deep in his core, he knew something he never thought he would know...

"Your name is Sonic, right?"

Derek expected this other hedgehog to be surprised, or at least confused as to why he knew his name, but his response was not as expected...

"I see I'm quite known around these parts, nice to meet you!"

Sonic reached his hand out, offering to shake hands with Derek, which he agreed to.

"I'm, I'm Derek..." he stuttered.

the pseudo-psychic powers had him identify the orange fox and the red echidna too, Tails and Knuckles.

How do I know their names??? Derek thought.

Sonic asked Derek for a specific book he wanted to read, which Derek provided for him. And when the group had left, Derek felt off, how did he know their names? He had to think on this for a while.

Obelisk's wife, Knuckles' mother, and a close friend to Tikal. Despite being married into the top of the hierarchy, she chose to keep her simplistic attire. She didn't want others thinking much higher of her simply because of who she was married to. Luckily for her, that alone made people like her more, her modesty. The only gleamy thing she carries around is the medallion Obelisk gave her to propose with. It's one of the rare physical things she treasures.

Sadly, she didn't make it long after having Knuckles' egg, meaning she didn't get to meet her son.

like i said, i would have more genshin and harry potter crossover headcanons! this one will be about defence against the dark arts and conjuring patronuses, and what the genshin characters' patronuses would be.

for the patronus-assigning, they'll be split by houses.

headcanon time!

for these specific DADA classes, all the houses were merged instead of the usual two only

it wasn‘t part of the official curriculum anyway, so it was expected that nobody knew of or was already able to cast the patronus charm

some got it during the first lesson of learning about patronuses, but this was only a small portion of the class. xiangling, hu tao, barbara, ningguang, xingqiu and lisa.

the next two to three lessons, majority of the class was able to summon a patronus, even if it was only for a few seconds.

bennett’s jack russell terrier would be running across the room excitedly, sometimes accidentally bumping into people here and there

xiao was able to summon a majestic lion which roared and silenced the whole classroom due to the awe of seeing it

some people got rare patronuses, like kaeya’s peacock patronus which strutted around the classroom proudly

what was most surprising was the more talented students having trouble forming a patronus. they already had a reputation of being the fastest learners of the grade, hell, maybe the whole school, and they still weren’t able to conjure up a patronus.

slowly, they were able to get it. eula’s orca swam around the room as if some invisible water current were keeping it up, as jean’s stallion galloped alongside it.

it took some time, but venti conjured up a griffin which spread its wings and soared across the room before disappearing.

this is when the professors decided it would be better to take the class to a different place where it could fit all these large patronuses.

that’s when the room of requirement appeared.

the room became very large, maybe half as big as a professional quidditch stadium.

childe and zhongli were the remaining two students who were yet to fully cast the patronus charm.

the two of them were put at either end of the room as they tried to summon their patronuses.

“expecto patronum!”

“expecto patronum!”

...nothing happened. they tried another two times.

“expecto patronum.”

suddenly, bursting out from the tip of zhongli’s wand came a dragon. silence once again engulfed the class as they watched the wingless dragon glide across the room.

one professor recognised it as a rare breed of dragon that came from the asian regions.

childe felt embarrassed. his reputation of being one of the most talented among them was weighing his shoulders, pressuring for him to do something, anything, that would get him to get back up to pace. why was this damned patronus not appearing? was the memory he was focusing on not good enough?

“EXPECTO PATRONUM!”

then, something huge and blue lit up the room. childe was confused at what this huge mass of blue was. the people on the other side of the room, however...

“merlin... is that a HUMPBACK WHALE??”

the humpback whale, 14 metres long, floated in place for a few seconds, making whale calls that stunned everybody, including childe. nobody expected a patronus like this.

“well, that concludes our lesson.” the professor said suddenly, startling childe which in turn made his patronus disappear.

“congratulations, everyone. that, is how you cast the patronus charm."
