I’ve been super nostalgic about my first born. This photo was taken of her on February 17, 2016. This was the day I found out she was a girl. The funny thing was, I was 100% sure she was a boy. I just felt it, and convinced my motherly-instincts that I was right. Turns out, my motherly-instincts were not quite refined yet. I had a huge fear of having a daughter. I didn’t like little girls. They were sassy, and mean. Moreso, I was scared she would be like me. I couldn’t handle raising a ME. So there we were. The nurse walked me through all her body parts, making sure they were all there and functioning. And then she asked: “Do you want to know the gender?” My husband held my hand, and I said YES! Fully expecting her to say: “It’s a boy!” But as she moved the probe around to get to the babies private parts, she smiled and said: “There are her girl parts!” And I remember saying: “It’s a girl?!” And then tears... just everywhere. Half because I was scared, and half because I was genuinely surprised. My mother instincts! It said BOY! I wasn’t prepared for it, but I definitely wasn’t sad. As I look at my 19 month old baby now, I couldn’t imagine my first being anyone else. She’s not sassy in the slightest, but perfectly weird. She’s silly, she’s happy, she’s patient, and a little over dramatic at times... but she’s perfect, and she’s mine. She’s the daughter I didn’t deserve, but the child God saw fit to give me. I hope I don’t fail you too much, little one, you are my life. ❤️
