fellas i dont like the commodification of friendship either but i think some of you are ignoring the whole thing that does very much happen where people treat their woman friends like mothers/therapists and that mommyfriending is still really misogynistic and unfair. i say this bc the posts about this are getting. uhh. hm.

Candle was mommyfriended even before Tea Kettle’s elimination because people conflate her being nice and knowledgeable with her being motherly. Even though she doesn’t have inherently motherly traits. All she was doing was being helpful and calm. And knowing things. My lil ol family is having the worst luck. We've been battling our car for two months and its just not getting better. Our son has doctors appointments and school eventually. It has to get better, i thought being 17 was a struggling life time... im friggin 24 and we are struggling. We are trying hard for our little boy. In my headcanon Lana is a hyperprotective mommyfriend and always wracked by anxiety whenever the commander gets caught in danger. (Like a worried owner who couldn't find her furry little family member) And only by holding the commander tightly in her arms after a crisis can she be reassured. (I think Lana enjoys a good embrace from her behaviour in SoR)

no, i do agree with you that nautica is allowed to have depth outside of "nice prettygirl mommyfriend" but i have no clue why poor skids is given the brunt of horrific n*zi allegories treating him like crap. i'm saying that that's the only valid crit of nautica's depth; it being used as a vehicle for antisemitic shock value

OKAY YEAH thats what i thought i am glad we're on the same page. that entire arc makes me SO angry (ntm the fact that nauticas development hinged so heavily on some man more than any of the established relationships she had with women she's supposed to have been friends with for a long time) but skids being used as a shock-value kill to just hammer home the completely horrific & insensitive holocaust allegory is. a massive issue that lies within the structure of the story itself from the ground up and just leaves suuuch a vile taste in my mouth.
