Bardock probably wasn’t expecting an alien scientist a foot shorter than he was to be part of his welcoming party back home on Planet Vegeta, but there she was. “Greetings Saiyan warrior! How was your planet purging mission. Successful, I take it?”

Kallion stood like a statue, staring at the freshly-smoked meat hanging mere feet away. It’s scent completely overtook her senses-- save for the jarring pain in her stomach. 

“Are you kidding? After your performance during that battle, you think we’re gonna share this grub?” Her captain had said, before kicking her out of their sight for the night. At least now she had a break. 

Maybe, if she was quick and quiet, she would have a meal, too.

“Alright,” she whispered. “One, two...”

Like a little stray dog, and jumped up and took the meat into her mouth, before running off behind a building nearby.

To be simple, I’d say there are mixed feelings for both of his parents on Raditz’s part since he lost them while he was still a child and can only look back on his memories and compare his experiences with them to that of his childhood self’s perspective. Which can be flawed, especially when he can’t interact with them as an adult to round out and add more context to what he experienced with his parents’ input. 

I feel like I’ve talked about the topic a lot before. Though I also talked the most about it when it was based on the FOG movie and video game canon being the only material I could work with. For the most part, it’s only changed slightly thanks to the new DBS: Broly movie and having someone to talk to and interact with consistently who jives with me when it comes to canon interpretation and HCs. 

I still don’t see Raditz feeling/believing that his father liked/cared about him as much as he wanted him to. (Or needed him to in order to develop more self-esteem and to avoid having #Daddy Issues.) With DBS: Broly and the Minus comic being canon now, I think Bardock would have cared about Raditz in his own way, but outwardly it wasn’t that obvious to Raditz because of his aloof attitude and outward annoyance whenever Raditz tries to get his attention. (And yes, I still consider that canon.)

Let me make something very clear too: I’m pretty sure that Bardock didn’t show much affection for Raditz. Not even in the Saiyan way. @momandpopbutchershop and I mutually headcanon that he gets annoyed easily by kids, and his own is no exception. That’s something children take very personally, and I’m speaking from first-hand experience. I don’t mean to project (though it’s probably happening a bit anyways) but it’s also hard to ignore the signs in Raditz’s adult behavior that to me make it obvious that Raditz desires his father’s affection, attention, and approval, but didn’t get enough of it, and it bothers him. Bothers him enough to display obvious resentment when the player of Xenoverse 2 is getting trained by Bardock and he asks, “What makes you more worthy to train than his own son?”

When are only times in canon material where Bardock seems to express true obvious care towards Raditz? (Aside from briefly asking about him in the Broly movie to find out where he is so he could make sure he’d say off of Planet Vegeta for awhile.) They are in his dreams. Dreams that Raditz then uses as motivation to train and get stronger both in the Fateful Brothers What-if storyline, and the Dokkan Battle story that centers around Raditz getting stronger to prove himself to Nappa and Vegeta. The Bardock who is tough but encourages Raditz to improve himself is the ideal father that he wanted to have. 

Gine’s the only one who showed Raditz what unconditional love looks and feels like. An old and slightly outdated HC of mine was that Raditz blamed his shortcomings as a warrior onto her for being weak, but with my current headcanons between Skully and I, along with HCs that I see more commonly is that Gine was a capable warrior but she was held back because she didn’t have the desire to/couldn’t bring herself to kill. Not because she’s too weak to defend herself and carry out orders. To me, that HC makes a lot more sense compared to my old one because of the fact that Raditz was ranked as a first class Saiyan at birth. It’s also the less sexist approach to interpreting canon.  Though I still HC that Raditz as an adult would blame some of his shortcomings on her for perhaps being too loving/coddling him with her affections etc, and that her emotional side rubbed off on him too much. However, he also hates himself a bit whenever he openly criticizes her or mentally does it. Because she’s the one who gave Raditz the emotional support he needed from a parent. 

On the other hand, I don’t think she enjoyed noticing just how sadistic her son was at a young age, and eager he was to kill. I’m sure she feared how Raditz would change once he became a full-fledged Saiyan warrior. How their relationship might change as he got older and perhaps might look down on her for not measuring up as a warrior too. Honestly, just read any interactions I have with @momandpopbutchershop to see the relationships the three of them had in action. There’s not a lot but there’s enough to get an idea for how we apply our HCs in a believable way.

He was bored-- there was not much to do, other than listen to all the other grown ups discuss politics. A mundane task he had gotten used to, but today was just one of those days where he felt like doing absolutely nothing of the sort.

His goal for the day? To find Raditz, and to join him in whatever he had planned to do that day. But he wasn’t in his post, which left him with no other choice but to locate his mother and father for the time being.

He sensed no issue to interrupting whatever they were doing-- not like they looked busy for that matter either. He was on a mission now; to find Raditz and the only way to go about it was to ask them about his whereabouts. Hands on his hips; brows furrowed as he awaited an answer.

“Something simple and comfortable. I made sure to include a wedding ring, although I’m not too keen on Saiyan marriage rituals. A ring is usually a symbol of one’s promise of undying love to your partner. The bag is good for keeping your goods together and I found the gemstones in the earrings complimented the necklace.”

It was the news of the day apparently as she overheard that there was a new mentor and that this mentor was a saiyan, apparently the supreme kai of time had been busy recruiting mentors now a days? But the chatter was incredible as everyone would seem to look towards Goki and then chatter even more, it both confused her and made her curiouser. Eventually asking supreme kai of time where this new Mentor was, she would begin her trip towards the bamboo forest and towards the small little cliff there. 

The bamboo forest always would get swarmed but today it was rather void, which surprised her, maybe she was the first to know of this mentors location? she felt kinda bad tho knowing that maybe soon enough he’d have so many people crowding around him.

Finally her eyes would latch on and lock onto a figure in the distance, however she stopped short in her tracks as something coursed through her, through her very soul. Like a forbidden warmth with a forbidden vague memory, but he appeared in it. She looked right ahead at the saiyan only maybe a few feet away. He and her shared the same hairstyle, she would note the scar on his cheek and the battle hardened appearance he seemed to have, was that armor? it looked, like what Vegeta wore but older? T-That was a tail too, just like she had! 

She however would stand there frozen, paralyzed it felt like as she was trying to focus on that image in the back of her mind, had she seen this man before? If so where? why did she feel like she was home but not at the same time? why were her feelings so jumbled together now? it made absolutely no sense.

Her positive attitude that helped her problem solve creatively.

While not a warrior when he knew her, Raditz would admire Gine’s work ethic.

SHE WAS A STERN, STRONG-WILLED MAMA WHO KNOWS WHEN TO DROP THE SUGAR SWEET ATTITUDE!

Her unconditional love and kindness towards him.

Gine’s emotional intelligence that allowed her to usually know what to say to help cheer Raditz up when he wasn’t happy about something.

How she couldn’t/wouldn’t control her emotions, and showed them openly when they overwhelmed her. (Raditz does low-key blame her for passing that onto him.)

Gine’s lack of killing instinct. (Maybe if she had stuck things out as a warrior and learned how to kill maybe he’d have learned how to be less emotionally dependent on her because she wouldn’t have been there that much.

As Raditz got older he might think she was too loving and coddled him too much when he was a child. (Again goes back to him blaming her for being used to having someone care about him unconditionally early in life so that later on he would miss it.)

Gine would sugarcoat or beat around the bush too much for his liking when he asked certain kinds of questions etc. that weren’t pleasant or were difficult for her to explain.

How she always somehow knew when he’d try to sneak out of the house at night. AKA that MAMA KNOWS ALL power.

A battered and bruised Raditz was trudging home holding his arm when he happened to run into his own father on the way. His eyes were cast down dejectedly, so he almost didn’t notice him. The boy gaped for a second before blinking to attention. Usually he’d show enthusiasm for seeing his father back on Planet Vegeta, but it wasn’t there today. 

“Hey dad. Welcome home.” The greeting was flat, and it was clear he was bummed out about something. Something that must have happened earlier.

Happy Mother’s Day from RadmanRaditz 2019!

Happy Mother’s Day to my mutual Gine muses, @momandpopbutchershop & @negiine! ♥ Love from your little gremlin boi muse, Raditz! His adult self misses his mother more than he’ll ever want to admit, and some of the few good memories (that didn’t involve him killing or hurting other people) he has from childhood involve her.

Also while we don’t follow MasakoX’s What if Raditz Turned Good and Dragonball R&R continuity for our RPs and headcanons for our muses, I wanna wish a Happy Mother’s day to my Launch muse, @bluexblonde as well since in some alternate universe she’s the mother of Ranch and a pair of twins.

While I personally HC and portray Raditz as a man who does not want kids in general because it would take someone very empathetic and understanding for him to feel comfortable caring about someone else in order to love them in a healthy, monogamous relationship, I do like the Launditz ship and do see them capable of having a relationship that can lead them to having and raising children together successfully if that is what all three of them wanted mutually.
