just remembered the time in like high school when one of my friends started reading looking for alaska for the first time and she was like 'do I...want spoilers?' and then the rest of my friends and I, no prior discussion about this, all immediately started gaslighting her that one of the characters falls in love with the mean swan that terrorizes the students. I don't even remember which character got the honor of making love to a swan. but we had her CONVINCED. we came up with a bunch of other insane fake spoilers too but the swan having a tragic love story with a human was the most important one. she was so mad when she finished the book lmfao

Well, well, well! If it isn't Molly!

I made her the fun aunt, and an aro, because me??? Following the source material??? Nah we ball around here! Rambles bellow!

Molly is from the same railway as Edward, aka the Furness railway, however she's one of the few engines who weren't arranged for marriage, instead being bought by a rich couple as their own private engine, now being the family heirloom she is treated humanely by them, letting her adopt her own last name.

I made Her and Edward cousins! Though not really blood related if you know what I mean :p, Both are industrial class, however Molly is just 2 years younger than him.

Molly had trouble recognizing Edward, but because she's more open minded, she immediately accepted Edward as he is.

I made her character the fun aunt, but not erasing her original personality entirely, I like how she's sensible and is sensitive to conflict, adding that I think she would give best relationship advice despite being Aromantic, coaches don't play ;p.

They both have alot to catch up on!

timeskip Molly concepts - probably when she's around 16-17 ish, maybe even early college? ( I'm not a big fan of the "ooh the bubbly character gets older and is now SUPER SAD" trope so this is more like... Molly is still Molly, she just gets older and faces more hardships/life stressors that come with age, and struggles to maintain the same high level of positivity/resiliency she used to have )

that one episode where sara made gumball into a superhero. um. molly threw herself at him, out of the blue, fully trusting he would save her, and before we figure out that its because sara has changed the narrative so everyone believes he is a real true superhero, um, i mean.

Thinking about Caleb and how so much of his story ends with him finding meaning in the temporary.

He spent so long chasing a way to bring his parents back, but in the end he had to accept that they were gone. They were temporary. He has his memories of them now, but that’s all. And he has to find peace with that and find a way to remember them fondly, even though they’re gone now, truly and completely.

He and Essek love each other dearly, but there will come a day when he will have lived his life and grown old and Essek will still be Essek. But even so, every moment they spend together is still meaningful. Even if it ends, it means something.

Just. Caleb and loving things even when they won’t last. Maybe because they won’t last.

Mollymauk Tealeaf who realizes he's starting to fall for his Magician, treasures all the little moments when Caleb lets himself be more trusting and vulnerable, the playful teasing and warm smiles and gentle touches of lingering comfort.

Does he ever dream of getting the chance to kiss his wizard again in stolen moments? Did he ever entertain the thought of sketching Caleb's pretty face for the Lovers card--

I was thinking over some stuff and realized that if the timeline/world of TGAMM was close to real life, then there would have been a lot of real-world issues/factors that could have affected Scratch/Todd’s anxiety, which in turn led to losing his soul. Especially in the decade that would have led up to the year he likely lost his soul.

So knowing that he was in his 50’s in the early 2020’s, and that he was in his 40’s in the early 2010’s, let’s look at what happened in the 2000s:

-The Y2K scare. I’m not sure if Todd would have been tech-savvy or would have bought into that theory, so I think this could be crossed out.

-September 11th 2001. Yeah, I think this incident would make someone uneasy about flying for several years.

-The war that occurred afterward. I don’t recall if the Arabian Peninsula was on Adia’s map, but every time a war happens, it usually puts people off from traveling out of country or in certain areas. Also, it was an awful time for a lot of people for various reasons.

-The 2008 economic recession. I recall that being an uneasy time, and I could see that as one reason why Todd would have stayed with the job he had. Especially if people were losing their homes or it was hard to get a house during this time. Furthermore, I could see the recession having a major negative impact on Brighton.

-Scratch mentioned that he didn’t pursue romance and the show bible said that it was because he was afraid of heartbreak. It could be because he was already shy/withdrawn to begin with, but there’s other factors that could have come from real life events. If he was LGBTQ plus, then that was still a bit of a hot topic in the 2000s (and assuming Brighton is in Illinois, same-sex marriages weren’t legalized until 2013, in which case it would have been too late for Todd to try to pursue anyone). I imagine that Brighton also wouldn’t have been inviting for romantic potentials, not to mention that the recession wouldn’t have helped. Also, I remember there was an over-emphasis on fitness and  physical appearances and how men and women should look like (in order to be considered attractive) that continued into the 2010s for a time. (I can still recall when fast food chains used models to promote their food). Todd would not have fit those ‘standards.’ (Plus I don't think he'd be too willing to give up food to try to obtain a look that is near impossible to achieve, but it might explain the weird abs obsession in that one episode).

And with these factors, it makes me wonder just what Adia was up to work-wise, because I can’t imagine traveling would have been too popular during the 2000s for reasons I already stated, and YouTube (or the equivalent of YouTube in TGAMM) wasn’t doing sponsors for much of its first decade. Unless she was lucky to get a job that allowed her to travel.

Side note–phones that could do face times existed as early as 2010/2011, so that adds to the timeline of exactly when Todd would have lost his soul.

My shipper heart that refuses to let go of widomauk all these years later hears Ashton talking about wearing a tribute to FCG (which is a lovely thought and I'm gonna get teary eyed at the inevitable new art), the second thing my brain goes to is Caleb in Molly's coat, taking and wearing it not immediately after his death, but after Cree has brought Lucien back. When it's been abandoned and forgotten in the mud and rain. Caleb taking it and wearing it on the trek to Aeor to get their lost friend back.
