Iâll have you know that Vast wasnât the only person who was affected by Mojaveâs southerness. Having grown up in the south without an accent, after watching Zenniâs bound lore streams, I gain a southern accent something fierce /lh /pos

do you have any fragrance recs for masc summer scents?
Hey Anon,Â
Iâm SO excited to answer this question and I hope you find something you like. Iâve put it all under read more so folks donât hate me for clogging the dash.Â
I went through my collection and realized just how spring-forward mine is, but I can give you some *interesting* options to think about.Â
So when you ask for masculine - the average consumer thinks of like tobacco, leather, vetiver, cedar, and spices. And youâll notice alllll of these tend to be more frequently associated with cooler months, notably the Autumnal ones. Youâll get some of them for base notes, but fragrances that highlight them are typically less Summery.
Summer on the other hand is typically associated with fruity, citrus, aquatic, and sometimes even a bit floral. So the fragrances reflect that.
See what Iâm getting at here? So this was a fun challenge. And Iâve provided a bunch of options for you depending on your mood and budget. I will preface this however saying a LOT of fragrances these days are marketed as âunisexâ so if you look most of these up, they wonât really be described as Masc, but I tried to lean away from florals (with some notable exceptions). For each of these, Iâve provided the fragrantica link so you can do some of your own digging. I tried to go with unconventional here. You aren't going to run into too many people wearing some of these around town.
You can try Scent Split (i swear it's a legit site, I use it) if youâd like to purchase tiny quantities of these... or some of the companies will provide discovery sets!Â
AQUATIC or BEACHY
Sailing Day
Klea
Sacred Water
Soleil Blanc
All of these are so incredibly different. I donât own Sailing Day, but if my memory serves me, itâs fundamentally an âocean-y scent but betterâ and highly affordable compared to the other two on this list. Klea is going to trend a little more floral but be more evocative of the Mediterranean Sea. Sacred Water is honestly the best aquatic Iâve smelled. Itâs citrus-forward with some hints of floral, wood, and amber. Have you ever wanted to smell like the idea of tropical paradise and sunshine? That is Soleil Blanc. I have gotten many compliments wearing it. Thereâs a couple of variations from Tom Ford, but any will serve you well.Â
CITRUS
The Matcha 26Â
So *I* think this is a year-round scent, but most people consider it a spring/summer one! If you like âcleanâ smelling fragrances, this one has some fig, matcha and citrus with a woody undertone. It doesnât give people headaches (that I know of) and itâs not very âloudâ aka you walk into a room and everyone smells you.Â
AROMATICÂ
Bal d'Afrique
This one is ambery and woody with some zest! Itâs subtle but smells so so so good. If you want a summer scent thatâs non-intrusive and elevated, this one is perfect. Some folks say it smells almost peppery.
MISC.Â
The Soft Lawn
UmmagummaÂ
Lampblack
The misc category is my favorite because these scents are odd but perfect. Please give these a shot.Â
Have you ever wanted to smell like ⊠fresh tennis balls, but like⊠In a good way? Or maybe you like to smell like a manicured backyard of the 1%? Try The Soft Lawn by Imaginary Authors. Or do you want an edible and spicy/sweet fragrance you can wear into fall? Try Ummagumma.
BUT if you truly want a year-round fragrance that smells pretty close to what folks consider more masculine fragrances? Lampblack is your scent. I joke that itâs elevated Axe, but Iâm serious in that itâs a great fragrance. Itâs rich and spicy and I want to eat it. And it's much better than anything you'd find at Macy's (imo). Be be warned. One spritz is ENOUGH.Â
MASCULINE FLORALS (COULDNT HELP MYSELF)
Mojave Ghost
Anything from Boy Smells (try suede pony)
Mojave ghost is not a typical floral, in fact I think youâll find it more woody/spicy than anything else. But like Bal d'Afrique, itâs pretty subtle on the skin. And then Boy Smells's whole BRAND is unisex/masculine florals. I am the minority in that I don't LOVE them, but they do such interesting things with their florals. And if you really want to lean into the tobacco/leather itc, they have you COVERED.
HOPE THIS HELPED YOU <3

Arizona Dream
Walmart'a gidip alıĆveriĆimizi yapıyor dolabı dolduruyoruz.

Discovering the Secrets of Sin City: My Vegas Vacations VIP Insider Guide
Situated in the middle of the arid Mojave Desert, Vegas is a sparkling paradise of luxury and pleasure with countless mysteries begging to be discovered. Recently, I went on several trips to Vegas, where I explored the tucked-away gems that set Vegas apart and the glitz and glamour of the famed Strip. With this exclusive guide, I'll divulge the trade practices that elevated my routine travels with Vegas Vacations VIP into unique experiences.
The Coming.
A warm greeting.
As soon as I landed at McCarran International Airport, I was surrounded by the electrifying atmosphere of the Strip. The welcoming climate of the desert blended with the excitement of what was to come, creating a memorable atmosphere. I made the costly decision to use a celebrity limo assistance to genuinely start my Vegas experience in fashion, hinting at the grandeur that awaited me.
The Stop.
Past the Strip.
Although the famous Boulevard is the lifeblood of Vegas, my Private Concierge showed me how to stay in places other than the most apparent. I saw small resorts where opulence meets closeness, like The Nomad at Park MGM, hidden away from the hubbub. These places, with their understated elegance and distinct, sometimes overlooked aspect of the city, offered a much-needed respite from the hectic intensity of the Vegas Strip.
The Culinary Wonderland.
Past Buffets.
Although my private guide revealed an environment outside the all-you-can-eat extravaganza, Vegas is known for its extravagant banquets. I explored the Arts District and found Esther's Kitchen, an undiscovered treasure. This neighborhood hangout offered delicious fresh pasta as well as farm-to-table fare, a world away from the glittering glitz of the Strip. Exploring the city's various areas led to more food adventures as I tried anything from exquisite meals made by renowned cooks to authentic Mexican food sold on the streets.
The Invisible Presentations.
Backstage credentials.
Although the Strip's tents feature big-name acts, my Elite treatment gave me entry to the smaller, less well-known events that render Vegas a destination for amusement. Getting behind tickets to a Cirque du Soleil show allowed me to witness the meticulous craftsmanship that went into every routine that defies nature. Meeting the artists and seeing how committed they have turned the performance into a one-on-one encounter with the town's creative spirit.
The Bars That Are Concealed.
Speakeasy Culture.
Beyond its flashy gambling establishments, Vegas has a vibrant cabaret tradition that intrigues the city's evening. Through unlabeled doorways and clandestine doors, my expert guide showed me where to find obscure pubs such as Commonwealth's Washer Space, a nightclub, or these private locations took me back to a time when mixology was an artistic discipline, and the atmosphere was just as thoughtfully created as the drinks.
The Getaway in Nature.
Valley of Crimson Rocks.
The Mojave Desert is breathtakingly beautiful, even with roulette tables and slot machines outside. I learned about Red Rock Canyon, an unspoiled gem just a few miles from the Strip, via my Private tour. As I made my way across the striking reddish-brown sandstone rocks, I was struck by how drastically different the lively turmoil of the town was from the calm, arid environment. It was a revitalizing getaway that highlighted Vegas's many sides.
The Big Bet.
Playing a Game of Twist.
Testing to win on the slot machines is necessary for any Vegas holiday; however, my Concierge gave the high-stakes encounter a unique twist. I was infamous for places' exclusive rooms rather than the busy gambling floors. The individualized service and upscale setting transformed the excitement of gaming into a refined experience. It was more important to enjoy the thrill of elegance than to prevail or lose.
The Shock of Dawn.
A Flight in a Hot Air Balloon
Being in Vegas, a town that rarely drifts off, and seeing the sunrise is a unique experience. My expert advisor organized a hot-air balloon flight over the city at daybreak, offering a stunning view of the awakened metropolis. As I flew over the famous sites, I noticed that the Strip was illuminated by the initial beams of light, casting it in the color of golden. It was an odd encounter that gave my Vegas trip a lyrical quality.
The Retro Vegas.
Boneyard of Light.
The famous brightly colored symbols of the town are interred among the glittering illumination of the Las Vegas Strip. An undiscovered treasure of Vegas heritage comprises the Fluorescent Museum, sometimes called the Fluorescent Boneyard. I was able to spend time at this outside gallery, which is home to decommissioned signage from storied gambling establishments, thanks to my Elite membership. It was an evocative trip through classic Vegas that helped create the opulent metropolis that it is nowadays.
The Leaving.
A memorable evening.
When my time in Vegas was coming to an end, my Concierge guide planned an incredible goodbye. An exclusive supper atop the globe's most oversized panoramic pedal, the Las Vegas High Roller, offered a stunning perspective of the Vegas illuminated to its most entire splendor. Encircled by the city's skyscrapers, I reflected on the undiscovered gems, unique encounters, and life-altering events that shaped my trip to the Strip.
I ventured through the developing Central district, an urban renaissance teeming with hip clubs, graffiti-covered streets, and the well-known Fremont Avenue Knowledge, to round out my Vegas Vacations VIP trip. Upon entering the historic Downtown Container Park, I was astounded by the inventiveness contained within the converted freight containers, which provide a distinctive eating and shopping environment. The disparity between the modern and the ancient and the vitality of continuous street acts gave the Strip's magnificence an exciting counterpoint. Vegas's capacity to continuously reinvent itself was demonstrated by this less well-known aspect of the town, and it deepened my admiration for the city's enduring appeal.
Conclusion
My Vegas Vacations VIP tour turned an average holiday into a fantastic journey filled with extraordinary events. I found a city with abundant civilization, food, the natural world, and amusement hidden beneath the superficial beauty of the Boulevard. With everything of its mysteries still to be discovered, Las Vegas was revealed to be far more than merely an area to visit; instead, it was a voyage into the epicenter of luxury, where every second was an investment-worthy undertaking.

Nouveaux pneus, nouvelles roues
Le printemps est arrivĂ©! Youpi!

MINOTAURUS INEST -Veneris monumenta-
Relevant une piÚce d'étoffe trop ajustée à tes hanches tu me laisses entrevoir l'arrogante colline hirsute.
Tes dents sont des orniĂšres quelque peu acĂ©rĂ©es pour un fourreau dâĂ©pĂ©e.. Je nâaime rien tant que ta main incertaine cherchant Ă faire blanchir ma lame ;

Las Vegas is a metropolis in the state of Nevada in the United States. It is the most crowded city in the state and is a globally famous resort city, recognized mainly for its casinos, shopping, elegant dining, and famously lavish nightlife, which has an extensive variety of entertainment choices. The city calls itself âThe Entertainment Capital of the Worldâ. For this reason, Las Vegas is one of the leading tourist destinations in the world. The biggest and most popular of the mega-casino hotels in Las Vegas are located in the area identified as the Las Vegas Strip. Amongst Las Vegasâs other appeals is the worldâs biggest buffet.
Top Places to Visit in Las Vegas
The Strip
The 2.5-mile-long central unit of Las Vegas Boulevard, which goes across the city from northeast to southwest, recognized as the Strip, is bordered with enormous entertainment palaces, several constructed with a central theme and home to performance sites, extravagant hotel rooms, and elegant dining. The Strip is mainly remarkable at night when the city is lit up by a never-ending chain of splendid neon signs.
Fremont Street Experience
In old downtown Las Vegas, Fremont Street is a pedestrian-only region with all types of unique locations. What could be better than seeing two cities in one day? The Paris, Las Vegas, offers you the opportunity to do just that. Situated outside the resort is the replica of the Eiffel Tower which makes it into many of the Las Vegas pictures. You will also come across a âParis Opera Houseâ together with the romantic Eiffel Tower restaurant in the building. Take the lift to the forty-sixth floor and revel in the sights of the metropolis just like you would have on the Eiffel Tower itself. If you are travelling with your partner, it is easily one of the best places to visit in Las Vegas.
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area
There are plenty of guided tours offered for Red Rock Canyon, which would take you far away from the lights and noise of the metropolis. Relish the tranquil 25-kilometre long drive to the desert in the middle of nowhere. Take a trek here or merely revel in the Mojave Desert with its red hills. Choices are unlimited, which makes Red Rock a main feature in the Las Vegas tourism scene.
Las Vegas might be neon lights and luxury but thereâs plenty more to it. The desert landscape could be a heaven for outdoor fans with paths that are as plain as theyâre stunning. One of the main things to do in Vegas is to trek the paths in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. They vary from easy to hard and consist of the Moenkopi Loop, Keystone Thrust, White Rock â Willow Springs, and Turtlehead Peak to name a few.
Stratosphere
Another entry on places to visit in Las Vegas is the stunning and magnificent Stratosphere Tower. At a height of nearly 1150 feet, the tower provides many great reasons to visit. You can relish some exciting rides on the top like Sky Jump, Insanity, and Big Shot. And if you are someone who does not like the adrenaline rush, the outdoor deck provides some brilliant sights of the city, making it one of the top places in Las Vegas.
Bellagio Resort and Fountain Show
The Bellagio is a premium, remarkable resort with plenty of gems concealed away in its corridors. You can explore the Gallery of Fine Arts, Botanical Gardens, and also the Conservatory here. It has numerous restaurants and also a spa and salon, aside from the famous Bellagio casino which is one of the largest Las Vegas tourist appeals.
Aside from all this, the gorgeous fountain here is another popular feature. Every fifteen or so minutes, the fountain goes off with an attractive display of water together with a music set. This fountain show is a must if you are searching for free things to view in Las Vegas.
Mirage Hotel: Erupting Volcano and Secret Garden
The Mirage Hotel is simple to recognize while walking down the Strip. In front of the resort is a volcano, which explodes at regular intervals. At night, the shining red fire shooting out is one of the most distinctive sites noticeable from the sidewalk. Inside the Mirage is the Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat. You can view an extensive range of exotic animals, which include white lions. The Dolphin Habitat has a huge amount of trained dolphins in its 2.5-million-gallon pools.
High Roller Ferris Wheel on the Linq
What better to do than get on a Ferris wheel in Sin City? Situated at the Linq Promenade, this wheel is the symbol of the city. Standing at 550 feet high, this viewing wheel offers a complete sweeping view of the city and also its most popular destination, the Strip. One whole rotation would take around 30 minutes. Riding the wheel at night provides an even more remarkable sight of Las Vegas in its magnificence. Â
The 28 cabins are different from standard to Happy Half Hour cabins and those that could be hired for special events such as weddings with deals that comprise of wedding planning too.
New York-New York Hotel
The New York-New York Hotel in Las Vegas is on the other side of the street from both the MGM Grand Hotel and the Excalibur Resort Hotel. Strikingly gorgeous, the hotel is designed to look like New Yorkâs skyline, complete with the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty. A giant roller coaster circles in and around the hotel.
Caesarâs Palace and The Colosseum
Possibly one of the best known of all the Las Vegas hotel resorts, Caesarâs Palace continues to change. Presently Caesarâs Palace is a huge compound in the centre of the Strip, complete with every conceivable entertainment choice. Of course, you have to try your hand at the casino games as thatâs one of the best things to do in Vegas! If youâre a passionate poker player you canât miss playing at the 24-hour, 4,500-square-foot poker room. Regular tournaments are held, offering you an opportunity to win big! Â
The hotel is closely linked with shows held in its enormous concert venue famous as âThe Colosseum.â Leading performers (which have consisted of Celine Dion and Elton John) perform here for prolonged periods, and shows are frequently reserved ahead of time. Travellers planning a trip and wanting to see a performance here will have to look at dates and ticket availability very early.
Things to do in Las Vegas
Catch the Cirque du Soleil
The primary thing to do in Vegas is to see a Cirque du Soleil show. You could see world popular magician Criss Angel perform remarkable tricks that seem to bend reality or view dancers and acrobats put on a memorable show through performances in KA and Mystere. No matter which shows you pick to see, youâre guaranteed a night to remember!
Helicopter Rides over Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon
For an exceptional aerial view above Las Vegas, or even the Grand Canyon, travellers might want to take a helicopter ride. This is a brilliant chance for anyone with less time to view not just Vegas, but the encompassing landscape and one of Americaâs most remarkable and popular natural appeals.
Visit the Neon Museum
The Neon Museum started as the âneon boneyard,â a fenced-in yard where most of the Stripâs neon signs were kept after being taken off from casinos that were either refurbished or imploded. Around 120 signs, mainly created by the YESCO corporation in the 1950s-80s, lie in the âboneyardâ next to the museum. On a guided tour, travellers could learn about the styles in sign design and technology, which played a big part in the Las Vegas history. The museum also holds the transported lobby of La Concha, an old motel, which was saved from levelling and now works as the visitorsâ centre. Â
See the Seven Magic Mountains
Now that it has opened next to Jean Dry Lake, the huge-scale public work âSeven Magic Mountainsâ could be viewed by anyone arriving (or departing) Las Vegas through I-15, 10 miles south of the Strip. The enormous, 30-foot-tall neon-painted limestone totems cut a magnificent picture against the desert. Artist Ugo Rondinoneâs piece took many years to plan in this region, but all you have to do is follow the driving instructions and show up. The work will be on view until 2021.
Gondola Ride at the Venetian Hotel
If you donât have time to tour Venice, Italy, thatâs okay. An unwinding way to relax in Las Vegas is on a canal tour by gondola (tiny boat). With a singing gondolier, youâll be rowed across the Grand Canal, go below balconies, and beside cafes as if you were in Venice. With a real Venetian street that looks like Italian construction and the alleys of Venice, itâs an entertaining escape and quite romantic. Now, thatâs amore!
Reasons to visit Las Vegas
Las Vegas is recognized as the ultimate playground, the metropolis is colourful and vibrant, making it a perfect destination for numerous travellers looking to tour its entertainment, cuisine, and nightlife scene.
World Famous Casinos, gambling is raised to an art form in Las Vegas, where you could pop into one of the dozen casinos just by walking down the road.
Las Vegas isnât just a destination for grown-ups anymore. In fact, in current years itâs become the ideal place for a family holiday. Appeals like M&Mâs world and the Shark Reef Aquarium are made for family entertainment. Â
Some of the top golf courses in the world exist in and around the Las Vegas strip. Â
Utah, the Mormon State
Welcome to natureâs most ideal playground. From red-rock mesas to thin slot canyons, powder-bound hills, and slick rock tracks, Utahâs varied land would amaze you. The biking, trekking, and skiing are world-class. And with more than 65% of the state lands public, which include 14 national parks and shrines, the access is just excellent.
Utah has rapidly turned into one of my favourite holiday destinations in the USA â seriously! The National Parks in Utah are absolutely magnificent and a must-view for any outdoor admirer.
Top Places to Visit in Utah
Zion National Park
If youâre travelling into southern Utah from Las Vegas (which is the route I took on my most current Southwest road trip), Zion National Park would be the first park youâll come across. It became a national park during 1919, and most people quote it as their favourite national park in America. (It may be my new favourite, too!).
Zion is recognized for its high mountains and red canyons, which was cut out by the Virgin River. Itâs also well-known for famous (if tough) treks such as Angels Landing and The Narrows.
Bryce Canyon National Park
The next park down the Utah national parks path is Bryce Canyon, which you can get to by travelling on the US 89 from Zion. Even though it also is packed with sandstone like Zion, the rock developments here are completely different. Â
Bryce Canyon is renowned for its windswept sandstone towers identified as hoodoos â the National Park Service says Bryce has the biggest selection of hoodoos anywhere in the world! Stopping at all the vantage points, therefore, is the most famous thing to do at Bryce Canyon (Sunset Point and Inspiration Point are my favourites).
Capitol Reef National Park
As far as national parks go, poor Capitol Reef is the park that gets ignored the most frequently in Utah. If you travel east from Bryce on UT-12 and UT-24, youâll drive across a slice of Capitol Reef beginning in the town of Torrey â but most people donât stop.
If Capitol Reef was in any other state, perhaps itâll be really common! But, in Utah, itâs generally the park people spend less amount of time in. (And Iâm guilty of it, too!).
Canyonlands National Park
Next up is Canyonlands National Park, in southeastern Utah nearby the town of Moab. Canyonlands is split into three diverse parts: Island in the Sky, The Needles, and The Maze, and has two main visitor centres (one at Island in the Sky, and one at The Needles).
True to its title, Canyonlands is renowned for its canyons and buttes that have been cut out by the Colorado River (the same river that cut out the Grand Canyon). Itâs also recognized for its brilliant mountain biking, with the 100-mile White Rim Road at Island in the Sky being the most common track.
Arches National Park
The last of the Mighty 5 national parks are Arches, also next to Moab in southeastern Utah. This park is very diverse from the other four on this list, and I also think itâs one of the most reachable since itâs just around 15 minutes from Moab and is packed with short, simple walks to view the renowned arches.
The sandstone arches, of course! The park has nearly 2,000 natural stone arches, together with pinnacles, cliffs, and balanced rocks. The rocks are also a dazzling orange-red, which looks exceptional in photos.
Salt Lake City and the Mormon Temple
Salt Lake City is frequently linked with skiing and winter pursuits, and definitely, most of the top ski resorts in the state can be reached in about an hourâs drive from here. But this is a city worth exploring, regardless of the season, and provides many attractions and things to do.
Standing on Temple Square youâll find the late 19th-century Mormon Temple, the biggest Latter-day Saints temple, and one of Salt Lake Cityâs main appeals. The temple can only be entered by Mormons but it is certainly worth strolling by to take a look. Other attractions in the city consist of the Mormon Tabernacle and the State Capitol.
Most Popular Thing to do in Utah
Try Glamping
Glamping, short for glamorous camping, is one of the newest trends in experiential travel. Itâs a method to tour the great outdoors without the problems of customary camping. Think king-sized beds and Egyptian cotton sheets other than a foam pad and sleeping bag. Think gourmet food other than burnt hot dogs. Utah glamping is thriving as more properties are offering guests with a more immersive way to encounter the remarkable countryside and world-popular rock formations that characterize this state. There are a handful of properties that presently provide glamping in Utah: Capitol Reef Resort is one of those places. Â
Billy the Kid, Buffalo Bill, Calamity Jane, Jesse James⊠theyâve all had us mesmerized featuring in dirty old Western movies, and over at the Capitol Reef Resort in Utah you could get a taste of it all. But with some additional extravagant twists!
Here you would be surrounded by the remarkable Red Rock Cliffs in an astonishing site with an option of generous lodgings to select from, from extravagantly decked out cabins, to teepees and lavish Conestoga Wagons â all founded on genuine 19th Century designs.
Also included are private bathrooms, just a couple of steps away, while youâll come across a fire pit directly outside. Ideal for roasting marshmallows!
Other facilities consist of an outdoor pool and hot tub on-site, and you could take delight in horseback riding trips, Llama escapades, and lots moreâŠ!
Travel Center offers the best deal to experience luxury glamping in style and the chance for you to take in the beauty of the surrounding scenery!
Reasons to visit Utah
You could go from winter to summer in one road trip.
Biggest ski resort in the country.
Camping beneath the darkest night skies and the sunniest morning sunrises.
It has five national parks.
It has the best snow in the world.
Itâs a hikerâs heaven.
Now that you know all about the places to visit, the best things to do, and reasons to visit Las Vegas and Utah, we hope you will take this deal for an immersive experience. Â Â
so what are you waiting for? Call us, text us, and get in touch with our travel experts and grab this deal before itâs too late, itâs certainly an experience that should not be missed!

UNIT SIX// PROJECT: FILM// REFERENCES
Salut Les Cubains- Agnes Varda (1963)
Salut Les Cubains is a 30 min short documentary film made by Varda during her visit to Cuba in 1963. It explores Cuban society and culture post revolution. The most interesting thing about this film is that is made entirely out of a compilation of still images. They are edited together to create the illusion of movement while still retaining a jerky low-frame rate effect. This effect works extremely well when edited to match the accompanying music- to which the people appear to dance. The jumpy tone of the visuals along with the upbeat music creates a comic, light-hearted tone.Â
I thought the idea off using still images as frames for the film was a highly effective and original way to produce tone. However, I donât think this would be appropriate for my work, as I donât think it suits the darker tone I am going for.Â
Mechanical Principals-Â Ralph Steiner- 1930Â
Mechanical Principals is a short silent film which documents the movements of mechanical parts. We see close up how pistons move up and down or side to side and pendulums sway, but never the larger machines that they are a part of, nor what they are manufacturing.Â
I found the focus on single parts of machinery, in silence, forced me to think about their movements in different ways than I normally would. The longer you look, the more mesmerised you become with the rhythmic repetition of the parts, and the more you see the beauty in them- where you would usually ignore or dismiss them. I really enjoyed this technique and think that perhaps zooming in to remove context may be something Iâm interested in doing for my film.Â
Snow- Geoffrey Jones- 1963Â
Snow is a short documentary film made by Geoffrey Jones for British Transport Films in 1962-1963. The 8-minute-long film shows the efforts of British Railways staff in coping with the 1963 United Kingdom cold wave. An example of "pure cinema", it was nominated for an Academy Award in 1965.- Wikipedia
This film was one of my favourites that was shown during the briefing. I thought that the gradual speeding up of both the music and the visuals shown in the film was very effective in portraying a feeling of resolution and engaging the audience in a semblance of a âplotâ despite disconnected images. Fast cuts were made in the editing to create a real feeling of  frantic plot movement in the film. I think I am going to look at this one further and use it as close reference for my own work.Â
Inner Passage Excerpt- Bill Viola- 2008Â
In this excerpt from a video installation piece by Bill Viola, a man embarks on a psychoactive journey across the Mojave desert. The film focuses on the physical body as it confronts extremes of endurance.Â
I found watching this film to be quite the visceral experience. Sensory images and sounds are combined along with quick cuts and a lack of music to create a disconcerting atmosphere which you canât help but watch. A vertical format is use- which adds to the sense of realism because the modern day brain associates it with being filmed with a phone (or I did anyway) which added to the effect. The experience of watching this film was far from comfortable, and I was very interested in just how effective the editing was as inducing a physical reaction of of the audience. I think will look closer at this one and try to use some of the techniques in my own work.Â
An Ecstatic Experience- JaâTovia Gary- 2015Â
Brooklyn-based JaâTovia Garyâs six-minute film An Ecstatic Experience (2015), fuses an account of nineteenth-century slavery in the US South as recalled by a former slave in 1937, reenacted in 1965 and reedited for the twenty-first century. Black-and-white TV footage shows the American actress, poet and civil-rights activist Ruby Dee channelling Fannie Moore (a former enslaved woman) describing the revelatory moment at which her mother declared that their enslavement was over: âIt troubled her in her heart, to know the way we was treated.â -https://artreview.com/features/jan_feb_2019_future_greats_jatovia_gary/
The most interesting thing about this film stylistically is the fact that lines and shapes are drawn, or seemingly scratched straight into the film, and animated around the central figure. The film is also duplicated multiple times on screen to convey points of particularly high emotion. I really enjoyed the aesthetics of the animated lines, however Iâm not sure if it would be appropriate for my piece. It was pointed out in the briefing that the lines actually distract from the actress in this film, making it hard to listen to what she is saying-which is a problem when what she is recounting is a story of great emotional and cultural weight. Although I liked the lines aesthetically, I didn't think they worked that well with the film- I thought they distorted the tone too much, which I think would also be the case if I used this technique in my own work.Â
Way of Ozu- Kogonada- 2016Â
Way of Ozu is a short film by âessayâ filmmaker Kogonada, which examines the repeat motifs, relationships and use of space in films by the Japanese master filmmaker Yasujiro Ozu.Â
This is done by comparison using three separate video frames within the piece, which allows Kogonada, and the audience to view three separate Ozu films at once and directly note their similarities/differences. The footage is perfectly timed to often give a domino/transitional effect between the three frames which I thought was particularly effective.Â
I am really interested in this style of filmmaking and my give this style a go for my film.Â
Grosse Fatigue- Camille Henrot- 2013
Grosse Fatigue is a short film intended to be displayed in a gallery space, showing a dense amount of video information presented in the form of Internet browser windows opening over the top of each other to form connections between imagery. The film is based off of found footage from Google searches and so ids very similar to the archive I have been trying to create for this project.Â
Henrot uses quick imagery and editing to create an overload of information. I found it very interesting that she uses the format of browser windows, it almost makes the film feel interactive- like it would be something you could do on your own computer, but at the same time presents pairs of imagery that I would have never grouped, but they work perfectly. I also found the idea of layering lots of video imagery on top of each other in different sizes to be an interesting technique. I don;ât know if it is appropriate for the tone I want in my film, but even so I thought it might be valuable to my project.Â
Sans Soleil (trailer)- Chris Marker- 1983
During the briefinf we watched a 30th anniversary trailer for Chris Markers film âSans Soleilâ. The film is a feature length experimental essay piece which compiles a series of thoughts, images and scenes mainly from Japan.Â
The trailer played many different clips from the film through the template of the text âsans soleilâ as a frame- so you were viewing the film directly through the title. This was an interesting way to see the film and an excellent idea for the trailer as it keeps you constantly aware of the name of the film. The saturation/contrast was turned up on some of the clips also, giving the elements an intense effect. I have not seen colour played with in any of the other references so far, so that opened up more ideas for my own film in terms of colour correction!Â
Trilogies- Susan Pui San Lok- 2015
Unfortunately I wasnât able to view this film online- I think it was shown in a gallery space only during its exhibition. However, I did read about the film on the website linked in the brief. Trilogies uses clips from various TV adaptations of The Condor Trilogy produced between Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. It condenses 400 hours of footage into 195 minutes.Â
Looking at pictures of the film- it was displayed in three separate frames to be viewed as a single piece- similar to the Way of Ozu by Kogonada. I think this set of three is an excellent way to display dissonate information/clips/imagery. Iâm seriously considering trying this for my own work.Â
Apex- Arthur Jafa- 2013
Apex is a 800+ photo collage of abstract imagery which attempts to share and build on what Jafa considers  vocabularies and methods central to black cultural production.Â
The images play in quick succession accompanied by a beat that matches the cuts between images. This makes the viewing experience rhythmic and mesmerising. The quick cuts allow the film to feel as if it is moving forward and not some much like a slide show which is an interesting effect. Â Iâve not seen many films made of only still images like this so it was interesting to consider this style as a possibility.Â
Love is the Message, the Message is Death- Arthur Jafa- 2016
Another of Jafaâs films- this one focusing on a montage of music, video clips and  historical recordings to paint a picture of black experience in modern day America.
I thought this one was an excellent example of the style of film I want to make- the combination of mute videos overdubbed with a soundtrack, and videos with sound combined with the soundtrack, as well as text on screen really emphasises the montage aspect of the film. I was really inspired by this one and intend to use some of the techniques.Â
H20-Â Ralph Steiner- 1929Â
H20 is a seven minute silent film portraying liquid in various forms. I found it really interesting to sit and watch water in black & white in silence because it almost becomes something else. You can't attach any of the normal sensory attributes to it, and so you notice other things- like tone, reflection and movement.Â
Similarly to mechanical principals, which was made by the same person, I found it useful to consider zooming in on a subject to such an extent that it becomes abstract.Â
Actuality Picture/ The Magic Lantern- Tom Ireland- 2009-17
This film is 244 minutes long and consists of thousands of images of Saturn taken by the Cassini space probe from 2004 to 2017. The film references early cinema and âactuality filmsâ which documented everyday life.Â
The images from the space probe allow us to examine a single subject from hundreds of different perspectives, which is very interesting when viewed in quick succession- allowing the viewer to build up a three dimensional awareness of the planet and its surroundings in their minds. I also found it interesting that this film is said to mirror âactuality filmsâ of everyday life- these are image of space- the very opposite of everyday life, and yet they are displayed in so much detail, and in a relevantly mundane fashion, that Saturn somehow becomes everyday!Â
Dreams Rewired- Manu Luksch- 2015
I have only watched the trailer for this film (its feature length) but am very interested in it and will pursue watching the entire thing soon.Â
This film uses rare and unseen archival footage from nearly 200 films to create a montage, narrated by Tilda Swinton, to trace the desires and anxieties of todays hyper-connected world/technology.Â
I absolutely adore the use of interesting/unusual archival footage combined with a modern speculative message which can also be found in the old video material and becomes clear when linked in this way. This is the exact thing I will be trying to do in my own film.Â
I have become more interested in trying to find some archival footage for my own project after viewing this film trailer.Â
Arrangement Series- Jin Angdoo- 2013Â
In Angdooâs series of arrangement films, objects such as books, cutlery and flowers are arranged, accompanied by classical music, to represent certain moods. The book arrangement below is âtimidâ.Â
I liked the simplicity and abstraction of the imagery shown in these films- and appreciated the set design which shows the artist is self-aware to the passage of time in her film. IÂ wasnât sure how I could pally any of these techniques to my own work however.Â
Miles from Anywhere- Gary Carpenter- 1997
This film, similar to both of the Ralph Steiner films I have already covered, examines surface textures in the extreme close-up. It is an exploration of environment and landscape.Â
I found this one easier to watch for the modern eye than the similar Ralph Steiner films because of the inclusion of temporally edited music and ambient noise. I found the textures to be hypnotic the way they are run though the film, and thought again, that seemingly âboringâ imagery can be brought to live through sound and editing.Â
Samsara- Ron Fricke- 2011Â
I watched the âfood sequenceâ clip from the feature length non-narrative documentary film Samsara. The films name means âcontinuous flowâ which sums up the Buddhist belief in birth, life, death and reincarnation.Â
I found the sequence I watched from the film, which focused on food production, specifically the meat industry, and then the consumption of the food, absolutely mesmerising. The clips of the production lines and supermarkets where sped up to show the idea of a âcontinuous flowâ of production, and really made the scale of the human food production industry to clarity.Â
I thought the order of clips and the pauses between sped up and normal speed ones was particularly effective in allowing the sequence to get points across about what you were seeing without being overtly obvious or needing any narration.Â

Happy Returns!
Mod has arrived home from her 2-month trip around the U.S.A. and Canada. I have done so much and seen so many wonderful things!Â
Apologies for the lack of Chao posts this past week, I may have misjudged the amount of posts I needed to make up the queue.Â
Regular Chao posting will resume in the next two or three days!
(Keep reading to hear about my holiday!)
My trip itinerary took me along this wonderful path:
Los Angeles, CA // Mojave Desert, CA // Las Vegas, NV // Grand Canyon, AZ // Monument Valley, AZ // Durango, CO // Albuquerque, NM // Santa Fe, NM // Amarillo, TX // Dallas, TX // Little Rock, TN // Memphis, TN // Jackson, MS // New Orleans, LA // Mobile, FL // Panama City Beach, FL // Orlando, FL // Miami, FL // Daytona Beach, FL // Savannah, GA // Raleigh, NC // Charleston, SC // Washington, DC // Philadelphia, PA // New York, NY // Boston, MA // Skowhegan, ME // Quebec, CAN // Montreal, CAN // Toronto, CAN // Cleveland, OH // Shipshewana, IN // Chicago, IL // Milwaukee, WI // Madison, WI // Sioux Falls, SD // Badlands National Park, SD // Keystone, SD // Mount Rushmore, SD // Cody, WY // Yellowstone National Park, WY // Jackson Hole, WY // Salt Lake City, UT // Bryce Canyon National Park, UT // Kanab, UT // Las Vegas, NV (#alltheregrets)
As for trip highlights...
Cirque de Soleil in Las Vegas~
The Grand Canyon! Photos just donât do it justice. If you go, I suggest the North Rim of the Canyon. I did both, but I preferred the North.
Hot-air ballooning in Albuquerque - the nationâs hot-air ballooning capital! Spectacular views all-round.
The Kennedy Space Centre was a real hidden gem; we saw a shuttle launch!
Universal Studios and Disneyland in Orlando, Florida. The prices are steep, but itâs definitely worth the money! Just pack a lunch so you donât end up spending every penny there on food.
The Smithsonian museums in Washington, DC (I particularly suggest the Air and Space Museum!)
Broadway in New York! Iâm a huge fan of musicals in general, and so I had to see at least one. I saw the Broadway musical âGroundhog Dayâ, fell in love with the soundtrack, and found the song I want played at my funeral.
Quebec - the architecture is definitely something of a marvel. It feels like youâve just stepped into Europe.
Shipshewana, an Amish town. There was such a peaceful vibe in the entire town, and everyone was so polite.
Chicago, my favourite American city! I would move here in a heartbeat if I could. Every building looks different to the one next to it, and the locals were so outrageously friendly.
The National Parks in general. Always something stunning to see, no matter which you went to. They were all so different, but all so gorgeous. Hiking in the Bryce Canyon was a particular highlight!
Las Vegas, the second time... the less said about that, the better! :-)
It was the trip of a lifetime, and Iâm so grateful for having the opportunity to take it. Now Iâm almost completely broke, but Iâve made some wonderful friends and I have enough memories to last a lifetime. Glad to be back in Australia, though, and to a stable internet connection - Iâve missed you all!

what are your favorite fragrances ?
Iâm obsessed with fragrance right now. Lately Iâve been loving Byredo. I have Bal DâAfrique and Blanche. On my list is Rose Of No Manâs Land & Mojave Ghost. I really want to get Tom Ford Soleil Blanc. It smells perfect for the summer. As well as Maison Margiela Beach Walk. Chloe by Chloe will forever be one of my favorite fragrances. Iâm out of it right now which sucks! I just donât want to buy a new one right now. (Iâm trying to control myself since I just bought a tom ford and byredo fragrance BUT I go them with a major discount so... worth it? lmao)Chanel Chance Eau Tendre has been my go-to recently. Again a fragrance Iâve bought over and over again.LOVE Elizabeth and James Nirvana Bourbon, Black, & White. I swear Iâve never used a roller ball as fast than with those fragrances. At some point I want to get the full sizes.Â
On the more affordable side I like Dior Blooming Bouquet & Philosophy Ballet Rose. (By affordable I mean they are toilettes, not perfumes so they are cheaper) I use to like Marc Jacobs but not so much anymore. He discontinued Oh, Lola which I loved. YSLÂ Parisienne is really affordable for being a perfume??? I use to love it but itâs a bit too sweet for me currently. Iâm sure at some point Iâll wear it again though.Â
