Prologue

Days before the clash with the Black Thorn

Buffy waited for Angel in an alley very well-known to both of them.

"A true soldier!" Buffy teased as stepped out of the shadows.

"What?" Angel turned around as the familiar voice cut through the night.

"It's me" the blonde woman said with a sweet endearing tone.

"Buffy" the vampire muttered and then smiled."It's dangerous. We said we won't meet. Remember"

"Danger is my middle name. Did you forget," she chuckled, "And anyway -I've got this special protection now. No worries. It's all about you and me being invicible. A Mohra demon said that once."

"How do you - know about the Mohra demon? "Angel stuttered. The demon's name awoke memories that he had hoped would stay in the past.

"The PTB- and Cordelia!" Buffy said, "It was all about you and me- always. They messed up and now we have to make things right."

"And I guess the Black Thorn, too?" Angel wondered.

"Willow was the one who sent Wesley the message!" Buffy continued. She was very official still, keeping her emotions guarded. But standing there so close to him, her whole being was shaken and it was so hard to keep her cool. "Drogyn will tell them about Illyria- uhm- I'm sorry-about Fred!"

"Yeah, it's not good to excavate ancient stuff!" Angel sighed inwardly.

"Don't we know about that one!" Buffy recalled the whole unfortunate business of Acathla.

"So, it is all set?" Angel moved on swiftly to the business at hand.

Buffy nodded. Her blue eyes looked at him longingly. Angel cared only for two things now, to have her back and destroy the Thorn. She looked at the watch to see how long she had before she had to leave.

"You have to go, I guess" he said sadly.

"Not just yet," she said and she gestured to him to follow her.

And he did.
